The article describes G.N. Tsagolov’s contribution to the development of political and economic theory, first of all, the theory of that new social system which, according to the scientist and his colleagues, should replace capitalism and “real socialism” — “integrated society”. It seems that G.N. Tsagolov’s theoretical developments were based on the methodology of the University School of Political Economy, which distinguished its initial and basic production relations in each system. The nature of Russian social and economic system as oligarchic and bureaucratic capitalism is revealed and the works in which G.N. Tsagolov showed the progressiveness of Chinese, Vietnamese and similar models of economic development are distinguished.

The author tries to distinguish the main achievements of political economy of socialism, its contribution to modern economic theory and potential in analysis of post-industrial society. To his opinion political economy of socialism is useful for understanding the nature of "real socialism" (i.e. economic system that was really functioning in the USSR and socialist countries), future post-capitalist economic systems and transitional economy. Moreover, this discipline can be helpful in overcoming the market-oriented paradigm dominating now in economic theory.

PurposeThe socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics reflects the characteristics of ushering into a new era, and the research object thereof shifts to productive forces. Emancipating and developing productive forces and achieving common prosperity become the main theme. Wealth supersedes value as the fundamental category of economic analysis.Design/methodology/approachThe theoretical system of socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics cannot proceed from transcendental theories but is problem-oriented. Leading problems involve development stages and research-level problems.FindingsThe economic operation analysis is subject to the goal of optimal allocation of resources with micro-level analysis focused on efficiency and macro-level analysis focused on economic growth and macroeconomic stability also known as economic security. The economic development analysis explores the laws of development and related development concepts in compliance with laws of productive forces. The new development concepts i.e. the innovative coordinated green open and shared development drive the innovation of development theory in political economy.Originality/valueAccordingly, the political economy cannot study the system only, but also needs to study the problems of economic operation and economic development. Therefore, the theoretical system of the political economy tends to encompass three major parts, namely economic system, economic operation and economic development (including foreign economy). The basic economic system analysis needs to understand the relationship between public ownership and non-public ownership, between distribution according to work and factor payments, and between socialism and market economy from the perspective of coexistence theory, thus transforming institutional advantage into governance advantage.

In the process of establishing continence as the norm of gentlemanly sexual behaviour, continence became a Victorian gospel. The mere narration of the process under Section II in the previous issue of this journal did not in itself yield the historical meaning of the gospel of thrift in semen. To understand the process historically is to ascertain the function of continence in a comprehensive system of relationships. More specifically the gospel of continence reveals its meaning when it is related to (1) the dynamic quality inherent in the structure and functioning of the Respectable Economic System, the compulsion to accumulate and reinvest capital, (2) Respectable thought about the purpose of political economy, and (3) the degree of integration of the virtue of continence into the Respectable Social System.

Many parts of the world are currently facing unprecedented social turmoil. Few understand that most of these “exploding” situations have a biophysical basis in patterns of consumption and the ratio of number of humans to resources available. Most “solutions” proposed are political oppression or, for the lucky, economic development, usually led by conventional economists. However, we believe that, for many regions, conventional economics, certainly alone and perhaps in their entirety, are not up to the job of addressing these crises. We propose a new discipline, Biophysical Economics, that addresses these lacunae and offers a good set of procedures for bringing much more natural science to the discipline of economics. This approach provides a stronger basis for training young people in both economics and heterodox political economy. We will need economists with this new training for a future that appears very different from today. This article outlines the rationales for further developing and teaching Biophysical Economics to demonstrate its utility and applies this economic lens to the economy of Mexico. We finish by providing an example of how a Biophysical Economics curriculum appropriate to analyzing and addressing the Mexican economic context might be developed and taught at the University of Guadalajara. This curriculum could also be adapted to other national, educational and institutional settings.

The article outlines the objective and subjective-psychological factors of the reduction of the study of fundamental economic disciplines in Ukrainian universities in recent years. One of the reasons for this reduction in the scope, and even the displacement of these disciplines from the university curricula, was the terminological incorrectness associated with the use of the title "Economic Theory", which means rather a method or tool of economic research. The use of term "Economic Theory" as a title of fundamental economic discipline significantly narrows its subject, gives the impression of its theorizing and detachment from the real economy and doesn’t contribute to improving the competitiveness of the graduate in the labor market. The authors substantiate the expediency of including the discipline "Political Economy” in the list of compulsory courses in the master's educational programs on "Economics". Political economy is now being transformed into an interdisciplinary branch of economic knowledge, which emphasizes on distributive relations and social efficiency. Attention is focused on the importance of national economic education for achieving the effectiveness of economic policy. Teaching fundamental economic disciplines for students of non-economic specialties would help to improve the level of national economic education and therefore to make effective economic decisions. The experience of American universities in the formation and implementation of economic courses in the curricula of non-economics students and the approaches to updating the structure and content of such disciplines are analyzed. It provides broader possibilities in the study of fundamental economic disciplines and finally proves the importance of the normative economics alone with the positive one in the education process. It is concluded that the negative tendencies in the study of fundamental economic disciplines in Ukrainian universities can be neutralized via employing positive foreign experience and shaping a Ukrainian economics mainstream, which would include the scientific achievements of both Ukrainian and foreign economists.

China's rapid economic development in recent years is often characterized as "miraculous." Talk of a "Beijing Consensus" or "China model" has become commonplace in academic debates. But as we have written elsewhere, "theoretical problems have started to emerge with regards to the very existence, content, and prospects of the China model." The key question, then, is what kind of economic theory and strategy underpin this "miracle."… [W]e hold that the country's major recent developmental gains are the achievements of theoretical advances in political economy, originating in China itself, while the main problems that have accompanied China's development reflect the damaging influence of Western neoliberalism.… We hope to clarify the official theoretical model behind China's economic "miracle," using the terms and concepts prevalent in China today.Click here to purchase a PDF version of this article at the Monthly Review website.

<p>As many as 40% of the population that categorized poor people in the world on which their income less than 2 US dollar per day is the result of the existing applied economics theories and they have failed to obtain sustainability and stability condition. The economic theory that is now developed mainly use positivism approach where normative assessment dispensed. This paper attempts to re-open the history back into the 6th century, where the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) tried to develop the economy of the state using concept taken from the hadith (prophetic tradition). This concept is the very roots of the improving Islamic economics theory nowadays that comes up to be the best alternative concept to replace upon the fail conventional theories. Qualitative approach through document analysis of relevance references as well as historical approach use to observe the economic development in the eye of hadith.<strong></strong></p>

The article is a review of a new monograph by the famous Russian theoretician-economist V.T. Ryazanov, «Modern Political Economy: Prospects for Neo-Marxist Synthesis». The focus is on the possibilities and content of neo-Marxist synthesis in political economy. Its new subject field, reflecting major changes in modern capitalism, is revealed. The scientific potential of classical political economy and the accumulated theoretical developments of heterodox schools that oppose the mainstream in modern economic theory are also shown. All this taken together makes it possible to lay the foundations of neo-Marxist synthesis as a new version of Marxist political economy. The review reveals specific theoretical, methodological and concrete economic problems studied in the monograph, and some critical remarks are made. According to the reviewer, this monograph can be an important step in contributing to the full revival of political economy in the public, scientific and educational space.

In this paper the authors defend the idea according to which the economic theories of the firm could be astutely enriched by specific theoretical developments of organization theories. In this view, they focus on two crucial research questions for the political economics of the firm: (1) the informal organization of the firm; and (2) social identity in the firm. This analysis allows to show the strong limitations of classical economic theory of the firm and to contribute to the reworking of a political economy of the firm.

Abstract:Economy plays a very important role in human life. During its development, various methods or systems can be used to solve it. So far, there are three systems of economic development, namely capitalism / liberalism, socialism and Islam. Those are the questions that will be discussed in this scientific paper. By examining how government participation in development, the method used is descriptive analysis of the three systems. As a conclusion based on this description, it can be said that capitalism is a social system based on the recognition of individual rights. This includes property rights, where all ownership is private property. In other words, capitalism is an economic system that can fully control capital, or investors can use all types of capital. This includes commodities that are used to produce other commodities. The government or the contracting country must not interfere in economic development. The government only has the authority to formulate regulations regarding tax obligations for economic developers. Tax revenue will be used for the national interest, especially to fulfill its obligations for the welfare of the people. Keywords: Socialism, Karl Marx and Economics
