Computerized traffic modeling makes it possible to find out the modification needs to assess the traffic flow on the roads and detect likely problem areas in order to take timely measures to eliminate them. Competent preparation of a road network formation plan based on the acquired information makes it possible to reduce the load on the road transport line, avoid traffic jams, and also reduce the average time spent by drivers on the roads. The macroscopic and microscopic models of the cars flow were analyzed by authors to implement the computer model. The article considered the model of the cellular automata by Nagel–Schreckenberg, with the author’s addition that takes into account the presence of the road sections inaccessible for driving in. The need to modify the lane change algorithm was implemented: the condition of the need to change the lane when car is meeting an inaccessible road section was added. And also the “polite” drivers algorithm for bypassing inaccessible areas with a high density of the traffic flows was proposed. Such a model is realized on Python programming language. An analysis of vehicles behavior with different traffic density and location of inaccessible road sections for two- and three-lane roads was carried out based on that model modification.

In recent years, the state of the road transport infrastructure in Ukraine has deteriorated significantly. With the process of urbanization and the expansion of the transport infrastructure, the ecological danger of the functioning of these strategically important objects increases, which requires effective methods of detailed study of the state of environmental components in areas of urban pollution in order to prevent negative consequences. Working with the problematic, using robots, we analyzed the methods to monitor the environmental situation around the road transport infrastructure for the development of recommendations for advancing efficiency. An algorithm for assessing the environmental situation around the objects of motor transport infrastructure is considered, based on monitoring the impact of these objects on the components of the environment and determining the main factors of this influence. The regularities and dependences of the influence of the motor transport infrastructure from the standpoint of environmental safety have been established. The indicators of pollution of the components of the environment in the study areas and methods of their production are analyzed. It has been concluded that a complex combination of chemical research methods with biodication is observable, makes it possible to analyze the effect of vehicles on various components of the environment (atmospheric air, soil and soil solutions, plants, animals, surface waters, etc.) and to establish the level of anthropogenic load. To sum it up, it can be said that winding-up of the sugar factory had an effect on the public traffic, too. I drew a parallel between the traffic and the motor vehicle stock. There was a serious decrease which could be observed in case of both the traffic and the motor vehicle stock. In the road-section of Battonya-Mezőhegyes the average daily traffic and the traffic of heavy goods vehicle significantly decreased in this critical period of time. Consequently, from the point of view of the tetrahedron-model, the following assertion is true: change in economic sphere influenced the infrastructural sphere, too.

Simplistic representations of traffic safety disregard the dynamic interactions between the components of the road transport system (RTS). The resultant road accident (RA) preventive measures are consequently focused almost solely on individual/team failures at the sharp end of the RTS (mainly the road users). The RTS is complex and therefore cannot be easily understood by studying the system parts in isolation. The study modeled the occurrence of road accidents in Uganda using the dynamic synthesis methodology (DSM). This article presents the work done in the first three stages of the DSM. Data was collected from various stakeholders including road users, traffic police officers, road users, and road constructors. The study focused on RA prevention by considering the linear and non-linear interactions of the variables during the pre-crash phase. Qualitative models were developed and from these, key leverage points that could possibly lower the road accident incidences demonstrating the need for a shared system wide responsibility for road safety at all levels are suggested.

This paper presents an approach to partially solving an issue within the scope of sustainable road transport, specifically the issue of potential accidents, i.e., traffic conflicts. First, a method is introduced for the analysis of traffic conflicts using video equipment. The attention is focused on traffic conflicts that occur at turbo-roundabouts. Given the diversity of causes of traffic conflicts, the emphasis is placed on the correct identification of the cause, i.e., whether the conflict is caused only by the negligence of the road user, or whether the conflict is more or less influenced by an inappropriately designed turbo-roundabout or one or more of its specific building elements (e.g., unsuitable corner radius). The next part of the article presents a selection of results that were obtained from analyses performed at about 100 turbo-roundabouts in nine European countries. Illustrative diagrams show the courses of the emergence of traffic conflicts, the causes of which are then described in detail. The conclusions from these analyses confirm the main hypothesis that the evaluation of traffic conflicts should be an essential part of designing roads, in order to increase traffic safety and, importantly, contribute to sustainable transport.

This article discusses the road transport works foundations when they are located in the seasonally freezing soils zone. Some culvert aqueduct utilized structures were considered and analyzed as an example, in the scope of most common structures on the road network and that also has an insignificant weight. Some constructive solutions disadvantages of these pipes were pointed out. It is noted that the operational characteristics of nonfrost-susceptible soil decrease in the watercourse filtering process and settling small particles and reported the dependence of the relative soil frost boil on the fine aggregate percentage. As an example of the frost boil forces influence, a typical culvert aqueduct design is considered. The calculation of axial and tangential heaving forces that affect the crown of tube is performed, assuming that the bedding soil is contaminated. Based on the calculation, rise calculated value dependence graphs of the unstressed base on the soil dampness and the heaving soil thickness, and the heaving pressure on the soil dampness are presented here. Due to the insufficient value of the forces holding back against lifting, possible negative consequences of the frost boil impact forces are presented, this affects not only the culvert aqueduct operational characteristics but also the roadbed smoothness and traffic safety. Thus, the need for additional measures to prevent soil swelling under the pipe head is justified. Recommended measures to prevent excessive deformations during frost boil, as well as modern aspects of the development of such technologies, are considered. Conclusions are made about their applicability and feasibility in relation to small artificial structures of transport infrastructure.

Abstract   The number of traffic accidents that occur in Indramayu Regency continues to increase and causes many casualties and material losses. From the available data, it is known that there is one road section which is an accident-prone area, namely the North Coast Java Road section, KM 46-47, which is located in Patrol District, Indramayu Regency. The flow and speed of traffic on this road is quite high, because of its function as a primary arterial road. This study aims to improve safety on the North Coast Java Road section, KM 46-47. The method used is in the form of observation and field data collection. Furthermore, the data obtained is processed, analyzed, and followed by formulating appropriate recommendations. This study shows that the main cause of accidents is the human factor, especially those related to high traffic speeds. To improve the existing conditions, it is proposed to provide road equipment, especially traffic signs, which are adjusted to the stopping sight distance required by motorized vehicles using the road. In addition, it is necessary to apply speed management as part of efforts to improve traffic safety.   Keywords: traffic accident; stopping sight distance; road equipment, traffic speed; traffic signs. Kata-kata kunci: kecelakaan lalu lintas; jarak pandang henti; perlengkapan jalan, kecepatan lalu lintas; rambu lalu lintas.

In this study, the application of wavelets has been investigated for diagnosing the faults on a hydraulic brake system of a light motor vehicle using the vibration signals acquired from a brake test setup through a piezoelectric type accelerometer. An efficient brake system should provide reliable and effective performance in order to ensure safety . If it is not properly monitored, it may lead to a serious catastrophic effect such as accidents, frequent breakdown, etc. Hence, the brake system needs to be monitored continuously. The condition of the brake components and the vibration signals are interrelated. If the failure starts progressing, the vibration magnitude will also progress. Analyzing the vibration signals under the various fault conditions is the key process in fault diagnosis. In recent decades wavelets have been focused on in many fault diagnosis studies as the wavelets decompose the complex information into simple form with high precision for further analysis. The wavelet features were extracted in order to retrieve the information from the vibration signals using discrete wavelet transform. From that discretized signal under each fault condition, the relevant features were extracted and feature selection was carried out. The selected features were then classified using a set of machine learning classifiers such as best first tree (pre-pruning, post-pruning, and unpruned), Hoeffding tree (HT), support vector machine, and neural network. The classification accuracies of all the algorithms were compared and discussed. Among the considered classifier model, the HT model produced a better classification accuracy as 99.45% for the hydraulic brake fault diagnosis.

Accidents rank third among the top 10 leading causes of death in Louisiana, claiming more than 2,000 lives out of a total of almost 33,000 deaths. Drivers’ characteristics (age and gender), the geometry of the roadways, driving on the major roadways, the day of the week, and the wet or dry condition or the road have been associated with crash severity. This study applies unordered multinomial logistic models to investigate causes leading to crash severity in Louisiana. Several models were estimated and the best results were retained for presentation and discussion. Consistent with previous research, findings suggest that drivers’ gender and age matter for traffic safety. Individually, male and older drivers are too risky. Major roads, weekdays, dry surfaces, and road geometry increase the risk of fatal accidents. Male drivers are prone to severe and fatal accidents while old drivers are vulnerable to all types of accidents. Young drivers and female drivers feature among cases of injury and moderate accidents. Evidence suggests that crash severity is not ethnicity specific, contrary to some studies. This study is relevant because it builds a new dataset for safety research, identifies risk factors, and informs the aim of public safety policy to reduce loss of life, injuries, and costs resulting from motor vehicle accidents.
