The study is limited with I. and II. grade students studying at public elementary schools in İzmir province Güzelbahçe district. While the target population of the study consists of students attending elementary schools in the district, the sample consists of 4. and 8. grade students. The reason for selecting students from two different grades was to determine the preferences of students from different age groups. The study also investigated the relationship between the preferences of girls and boys. The reason for selecting Güzelbahçe in this study was that the district was distant from the city center and was generally inhabited by middle-income families. A questionnaire was applied to students in the study and the data of the questionnaire were explained by associating the general features of female and male students regarding the aforementioned age groups and their answers to the question.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the contribution of urban morphology to the formation of microclimatic conditions prevailing within urban outdoor spaces. We studied the compact form of a city and examined, at a detailed, street plan level, elements related to air temperature, urban ventilation, and the individual’s thermal comfort. All elements examined are directly affected by both the urban form and the availability of open and green spaces. The field study took place in a typical compact urban fabric of an old city center, the city center of Thessaloniki, where we investigated the relationship between urban morphology and microclimate. Urban morphology was gauged by examining the detailed street plan, along with the local building patterns. We used a simulation method based on the ENVI-met© software. The findings of the field study highlight the fact that the street layout, the urban canyon, and the open and green spaces in a compact urban form contribute decisively both to the creation of the microclimatic conditions and to the influence of the bioclimatic parameters.

Aims: The objective was to investigate moderate-to-vigorous physical activity levels (MVPA) of primary school children at baseline of the Health Oriented Pedagogical Project (HOPP), Norway. Methods: Data on 2123 children aged 6–12 years were included for analysis (75% participation rate). Average minutes per day in MVPA was objectively measured using accelerometry based on seven-day averages. The sample was analysed for age-, sex-, socioeconomic-, and season-related patterns. A linear regression investigated the moderating effect of these factors as well as body mass index and waist circumference. Results: Some 86.5% of the sample had at least 60 min/day MVPA, averaging 90.7 min/day. The main differences in daily averages were between age groups 6½–9 and 10–12 ( p < .05). Boys (95.8 min/day, 95% CI: 94.1–97.5) were more active than girls (85.6 min/day, 95% CI: 83.9–87.2) in all age groups ( p < .0001). MVPA was lower by 3.5 min ( p < .0001) per additional year of age in the linear regression (R2 = 0.176) and was reduced by 20 min less per day in MVPA in the winter months compared with the summer months ( p < .0001). Conclusions: Physical activity levels are already in decline from 6–7 years old and are likely to continue to decline into adolescence. Interventions must therefore focus on primary school children.

This paper explores the relationship between family environment and behaviour of primary school children living in three family contexts. It uses data from studies including children of married heterosexual couples, cohabiting heterosexual couples and homosexual couples, and examines the extent to which these children differ with regard to scholastic achievement and aspects of social development. It shows that in the majority of cases, the most successful are children of married couples, followed by children of cohabiting couples and finally by children of homosexual couples.

ABSTRACT Aim To assess the prevalence of dental caries and dental fluorosis among 13- to 15-year-old school children in Panyam, Andhra Pradesh, India. Materials and methods The cross-sectional study was conducted among 202 school children and were examined for dental fluorosis and dental caries. Results This study shows that male students have a decrease in DMFT (Decayed, missing, filled, teeth) index and increase in Dean's index when compared with females. Among students with 13 to 15 years of age, 13-year-old student has increase in DMFT score when compared with other age groups and 14-year-old students has increase in Dean's score when compared with other age group students. Conclusion The prevalence of dental caries decreased with the increase of fluorosis among the students examined. Clinical significance Patients with dental fluorosis show a decreased prevalence of dental caries. The author defined pedagogical conditions of continuity in the development of healthy lifestyle of senior pre-schoolers and primary school children, developed and implemented into practice methods to ensure continuity in the healthy lifestyle education in kindergartens and elementary schools, and experimentally tested their efficiency.

Parameters of physical development are known to be informative indicators of health status and adaptation processes, as well as markers of social, hygienic and environmental well-being both in healthy children and those with various pathological conditions. The purpose of this article was to study the characteristics of the physical status of children with intellectual disabilities. Materials and methods. We examined 168 children of primary school age (7–11 years) studying in secondary schools of Krasnoyarsk. The subjects were divided into two groups: the first group included 54 children with intellectual disability (F70, F71 according to ICD-10), the second group included 114 children without intellectual disability. Anthropometric characteristics and level of physical development were studied taking into account regional centile tables. The harmony of physical development was assessed using the Quetelet index. Results. The physical development of children with intellectual disability is characterized by a lag in anthropometric characteristics compared with intellectually healthy children: body length was 133.0 and 137.3 cm (p = 0.048), head circumference 51.0 and 52.5 cm (p = 0.002) respectively. The first group also had a statistically significantly lower percentage of children with harmonious physical development (37 %, p = 0.045) against the background of pronounced disharmony (underweight in 31.5 %, excess body weight in 31.5 % of children) compared to their healthy peers (harmonious development in 55 %, underweight in 16 %, overweight in 29 % of children). Further research into the constitution of children with intellectual disability can form the basis for the development of corrective measures, taking into account the specific typological characteristics of children in this group.
