Abstract: There has been several investigations that try to explain why the university students barely do exercise or most of them have dropped all the outdoor activities during their free time. However, this investigations have gone beyond the walls specially with the students that never do any activity, the reason of this, is due to all the side effects that the physical inactivity has. From the University of Guadalajara in Mexico, a 65.000 college student population, it was taken a sample of 1.207 individuals. The sampling procedure for this research was stratified polietapic with proportional affixation; which resulted on a + 3 percent error margin and a trusted level of 95.5 percent. In order to collect the results of the poll, it was used a standard questionnaire applied in a auto-administrated way. Among the main results, it is important to highlight that the students that do not do any exercise emphasis that the reason of the lack of any activity is because they do not have the abilities to practice any sport, lack of free time, laziness or lack of sportive facilities near to their homes. These results are similar and have affected other investigations in the same manner the university students. Furthermore, the fact that a student studies in a thematic or regional center, or belong to a different university center does not affect or shows the reasons why the students do not do any physical activity during their free time. Being only the sedentary, the students that are studying a degree. This situation obligates us to emphasis and to pay more attention to this group of students, because in case of continuing without any physical activity, this could increase the rate of mortality, inability and morbidity.Key words: motivations, college students, physical inactivity.

Motivations of the University students in the physical and sports practice of free time. The nautical activitiesABSTRACTThe study of motivational profiles provides detailed information on the habits of groups of people to the practice of physical activity, allowing fostering a more positive motivation and achieving greater adherence to practice. So the aim of this study was to clarify the motivations are against the practice of physical and sporting a sample of university students, with special emphasis on water sports activity. The sample consisted of 1011 students from the University of Almeria (Spain). The instrument used was the questionnaire physical - sporting habits and water sports. The results indicate that the main reasons for developing sport and flexible hours were adequate to the availability of leisure, followed by proximity to your home facilities. Other reasons are for fun, or to be with his Universitarios y actividades náuticas © Psy, Soc, & Educ, 2016, Vol. 8(3) 230 friends. Concerning water activities, it was decided not to practice or just because they like them, followed by the wish to be in contact with the natural aquatic environment. The most practiced nautical activities are canoeing and swimming. In relation to the abandonment of the sport is clearly caused by the lack of time for study or work. Clearly the lack of time for study or work, seriously undermines adherence to physical activity, but there are very high percentages (62 %) who admit no laziness and unwillingness to practice, so you should seek new motivational strategies to increase adherence to physical activity sports. Keywords: Motivation; practice of physical and sports activity; nautical activities; Physical and sports habits; university student.

Background: Physical activity is one of the leading health indicators, considered an essential factor in the population's health and quality of life promotion. Physical inactivity is the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality. Physical inactivity has been linked with chronic disease and obesity in most populations. This study aims to compare the prevalence of physical activity and overweight/obesity among students of the university. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from March to September 2019 on undergraduate students from different departments of Peshawar University. A sample of 377 (male n = 243, female n = 134) was taken through convenience sampling. Those individuals who were physically disabled and not willing to participate were excluded from the study. Those meeting the inclusion criteria were given the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ short form). Demographic data included age, weight, and height was self-stated by the participants. The levels of physical activity in each of three domains (leisure, transport, and domestic) were calculated and presented as metabolic equivalent (M.E.T.) hour per week in the form of means, percentage, and frequency in different physical activity domains. Results: The overall sample showed that 13.70% of participants were inactive, 27.76% showed a low level of physical activity, 41.29% showed moderate physical activity level, and 17.24% showed a high level of physical activity. A total of 90.98% of participants were involved in leisure physical activities, 93.10% presented transport-related physical activity, and 74.80% were involved in domestic-related physical activity. Average time spent during sitting was found to be 53.32 hrs/week and 7.61 hrs/ day, with females being more involved in sitting activities as compared to males. A significant difference was found between B.M.I. and sitting domain (p-value 0.002) with a Pearson value of -0.12 showing a negative correlation. Conclusion: The B.M.I. and Physical Activity are found negatively associated with each other. Male students were more physically active than females as females spend their majority of time sitting. It is concluded that students are moderately active, while a minimal percent of students are highly active. There were a few numbers of respondents too who were physically inactive, which shows that there is still unawareness of physical activity on the university level.

University students, as a result of their lifestyles, represent a section of the population that is most likely to adopt sedentary behaviours. The aim of the present study was to analyse the determining factors dictating the performance of physical activity as well as sedentary behaviour among university students. A total of 608 students (64.6% women) from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) were selected by stratified random sampling to take part in the study, which involved completing a questionnaire on lifestyle and physical activity. Of the participating students, 69.6% indicated that they performed physical activity; the main reasons given were to maintain fitness and for health, while a lack of time and laziness were the principal reasons given for abandoning or not taking up physical exercise. Significant associations were established between not doing physical activity and the time exposed to screens, time studying, feeling low and smoking; on the other hand, associations could be seen between doing physical activity and the participation of relatives (parents, mothers, partners, older siblings and friends) in physical activity, as well as a positive sense of satisfaction relating to physical education taught in schools. In conclusion, most of the university students did some physical activity, which was associated with less sedentary behaviour, while the influence of school physical education and of the habits of relatives played an important role.

ABSTRACT In the last few years, a discussion about university students´ employability has been generated by deep changes in the job market. The objective of this investigation has been to analyze employability with reference to sex, degree and employment situation, and to analyze its relation to the achievement perception. 297 students have participated in different levels of the Education Department of the University of Murcia. The tools that have been applied seek to explore the subjective self-perception on the employability performance, measuring skills and abilities expressed by the participants, and the perception (belief) of personal and professional conditions required by employers with reference to a potential job hiring. University students not only perceive that certain personal characteristics are necessary, but they also consider the requirements of their social and labor context. Also tested the existence of a statistically significant relation among employability perception and achievement expectations. The results have highly important practical implications aiming to improve the university students´ employability. Priority should focus to address the incorporation of vocational guidance in university plans of studies.

Background and Objectives: Active commuting to and from university (ACU) could be a strategy to increase physical activity levels (PA) and promote health in young university students. We aimed to a) examine the patterns of commuting to university in Chilean students; b) the association between the mode of commuting to and from university and socio-demographic factors and PA-levels. Materials and Methods: A total of 496 university students (21.6 ± 2.4 years old) from two universities from Valparaíso (central coast of Chile) participated in this study. Personal data, home address, socio-economic status, PA, and the usual mode of commuting to and from the university were self-reported by a questionnaire. The commute distances were objectively measured using Google-Maps-software. Associations were examined using binary logistic regressions. Results: The main mode of commuting was by bus (to university: 55.2% vs. from university: 59.3%; p < 0.001). The least used mode was cycling (1.4% to and from university). Students living >5-km from university were less active commuters than those living in closer distances: (2–5 km, odds ratio (OR): 4.424, 95% and 95% confidence intervals (CI): 2.443–8.011, p < 0.001; 2 km, OR: 143.052, 95% CI: 55.154–371.030, p < 0.001). Students with low PA-levels were less active commuters than those with medium (OR: 1.446; 95% CI: 0.864–2.421; p = 0.160) or higher levels (OR: 1.880; 95% CI: 1.880–1.094; p = 0.022). Students who lived between 2 and 5 km, presented a significant association to be active commuters when they showed medium PA-levels (OR: 5.244, 95% CI: 1.358–20.246; p = 0.016). Conclusions: Chilean university students from Valparaíso are mainly passive commuters using public transport as the main mode of commuting to and from university; longer distances from home to the university are associated with low PA levels. ACU in distances between 2–5 km (mainly walking) could contribute to having medium PA-levels in Chilean university students. Thus, promoting the ACU walking to and from the university in such distances could be an effective strategy to increase the overall PA levels in Chilean university students.

This study was conducted to investigate the impact of portfolios and journals on Iranian Pre-university students’ vocabulary learning. Fifty female pre-university students who were studying General English as a part of their course syllabus at Tooba Pre-university Center of Tang Eram, Bushehr, Iran comprised the participants in the main phase of the study. This study adopted a convenience sampling procedure, since the real act of randomization was not feasible. The participants of the study were divided into two groups. The experimental group (N=25) received the treatment i.e. portfolios and journals, while the control group (N=25) underwent the traditional assessment. The results of data analyses indicated that the students in experimental group outperformed the students in control group in terms of their lexical knowledge. Moreover, the results of correlational analyses revealed that there was a strong positive correlation between the students’ lexical scores and their scores on motivation to alternative assessment in the experimental group. The results have some implications for EFL teachers, learners, and parents as well as for curriculum developers and syllabus designers.
