Background: Results of previous studies examining the impact of the SARS-CoV-1 epidemic in 2003 on university students' mental well-being indicated severe mental health consequences. It is unclear how the current COVID-19 pandemic and the changes in study conditions due to federal regulations affected mental well-being in the German student population. We examined university students' perceptions of study conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic and investigated associations between study conditions and depressive symptoms. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in Germany in May 2020 at four universities (N = 5,021, 69% female, mean age: 24 years, SD: 5.1). Perceived study conditions, as well as sociodemographic information, were assessed with self-generated items and the CES-D 8 scale was used to determine depressive symptoms. Associations between perceived study conditions (academic stress and academic satisfaction), in general, and confidence to complete the semester, in particular, and depressive symptoms were analyzed using generalized linear regressions. Results: Fifty-four percent of survey participants felt that the university workload had significantly increased since the COVID-19 pandemic; 48% were worried that they would not be able to successfully complete the academic year; 47% agreed that the change in teaching methods caused significant stress. Regarding depressive symptoms, the mean score of the CES-D 8 scale was 9.25. Further, a positive association between perceived study conditions and depressive symptoms was found (p < 0.001), indicating that better study conditions were associated with fewer depressive symptoms. Results of the generalized linear regression suggest that better student mental well-being was related to higher confidence in completing the semester. Conclusions: This study provides first insights into perceived study conditions and associations with depressive symptoms among students during the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany. Findings underline the need for universities to provide intervention strategies targeting students' mental well-being during the course of the pandemic.

Abstract: This research focuses on the field of Initial Teacher Training (FID) in Pedagogy in Physical Education (PEF). The objective is to know the way in which students in the FID process at PEF implement the formative assessment in the classes they take in their professional practice. It is carried out through a quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental cross-sectional approach, where 64 students from a private higher education institution in Chile were considered. The information collection instrument that was used was an observation script applied by supervising professors of professional practice which considers the dimensions of: a) Feedback, b) Preparation and implementation and c) Response of the schoolchildren. The results verify the application of feedback, differentiated support as required by the schoolchildren and treatment of the error; but they do not apply in a systematic way self-evaluation or co-evaluation, nor record of what the students have done in class. It can be concluded that although formative evaluation is incorporated in the development of professional practice by students in the FID process in PEF, they do not provide spaces for dialogue regarding the evaluation process (self-evaluation and peer evaluation).

This cross-sectional study analyzed the burnout symptoms of 146 physical education students from a higher education institution in Paraná, who answered the Burnout Syndrome Inventory. Data analysis was conducted using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov, U Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests (p <0.05). The results showed that women had higher scores in the dimensions of Illusion (p = 0.006) and Psychic Wear (p = 0.001). Students who do not have a partner had a higher score in the guilt dimension (p = 0.040). 1st year students had a higher score in the dimension of Psychic Wear (p = 0.001) and Indolence (p = 0.004). It was concluded that sex, marital status and year of the course seem to be intervening factors in the burnout symptoms of physical education students.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the association between the socioeconomic characteristics of individuals and common mental disorders. METHOD: A cross-sectional survey of a representative sample of the urban population, 14 years and older, in Campinas (Brazil) (n = 515) was conducted using a multipurpose instrument that included the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20) to assess common mental disorders in the previous 3 months. Weighted prevalence of common mental disorders was calculated for each independent variable. Crude and adjusted prevalence ratios were estimated using Poisson regression. RESULTS: The overall prevalence was 17% (95% CI 12.8-22.3), 8.9% in males and 24.4% in females. An inverse association was found between common mental disorders and the socioeconomic characteristics (schooling and employment) even after controlling for all the other variables. Higher common mental disorders prevalence was observed in those with less than 5 years of schooling (PR = 5.5) and unemployed or underemployed (PR = 2.0). CONCLUSIONS: As in other studies, common mental disorders were unevenly distributed; it was significantly more frequent in socially disadvantaged individuals. Specific actions to reduce inequalities in the general and mental health system should be studied.

The present study sought to examine the associations between participation in physical education (PE) classes and a range of health-related behaviours among adolescents. Secondary analysis of self-reported data from the Global Student Health Survey, collected between 2010 and 2017 from 222,121 adolescents (N = 117,914 girls; 49.0%; aged 13–17 years) from 67 countries and five world regions, was carried out. Participation in PE classes (0, 1–2, ≥3 days/week) was the independent variable. Physical activity (PA); sedentary behaviour (SB); active travel to school; fruit, vegetables, and alcohol consumption; and smoking; as well as adopting ≥5 of these healthy behaviours; were the dependent variables. Complex samples logistic regressions were performed to explore the associations between participation in PE classes and health-related behaviours. The results revealed that 18.2% of adolescents did not take part in PE classes. A total of 56.7% and 25.1% of adolescents reported participating in PE classes on 1–2 and ≥3 days/week, respectively. Only 26.8% of adolescents adopted ≥5 healthy behaviours. Participation in PE classes was positively associated with PA, active travel, fruit consumption, and vegetable consumption (only for ≥3 days/week), but was negatively associated with meeting SB recommendations, and with not smoking (only for girls and ≥3 days/week). Overall, PE participation was positively associated with adopting ≥5 healthy behaviours, with favourable results found for those who attended more PE classes. The findings revealed a positive association between participation in PE classes and a range of health-related behaviours among adolescents. This suggests that, worldwide, quality PE should be delivered at least 3 days per week up to daily to promote healthy lifestyles among adolescents.

To get to know the quality of life of LGBT students at the Federal University of Sergipe. An analytical, comparative, exploratory, cross - sectional, quantitative, non - probabilistic study with a population composed of undergraduate students from a Health Sciences Campus of the Federal University of Sergipe. Students in the nursing; pharmacy; physiotherapy; speech; language and hearing sciences; medicine; nutrition; dentistry and occupational therapy courses were part of the research. Among the inclusion criteria are: LGBT people, over 18 years of age, students with regular enrollment and who accepted to participate in the study by signing the Free and Informed Consent Term. Participants provided sociodemographic and quality of life information through the WHOQOL-BREF instrument. The WHOQOL-BREF examines four domains related to quality of life (physical, psychological, personal relationships and the environment. The responses followed the Likert scale (from 1 to 5, and the higher the score, the better the quality of life). 65 students with a mean age of 21.7 years old (± 3.4) participated in the study, of which, 22 (33.8%) were female and 43 (66.2%) were male. The means of responses and standard deviation in the physical, psychological, social and environmental domains were, respectively, 2.6 ± 0.6; 2.8 ± 0.7; 2.7 ± 0.7; 2.8 ± 0.6. This study aims to provide support for public policies aimed at the LGBT population, reaching the various spheres of our society, ensuring not only access, but also the permanence of this population group in different spaces, especially in the University, in a dignified, safe and healthy way.

Cooperative learning is a pedagogical framework extensively used in educational contexts worldwide, but some scholars warn that we do not know much about how its claimed outcomes are delivered. The aim of this study was to uncover the connections between cooperative learning contexts and students’ task and self-approach goals in physical education. We hypothesized that those students who perceived a stronger cooperative learning context in their classes would also show higher task and self-approach goals. A total of 1328 students (648 females and 680 males) from three different educational stages: primary education (n = 584), secondary education (n = 550) and baccalaureate (n = 194), agreed to participate. Participants’ ages ranged between 10 and 20 years ( M = 13.11; SD = 2.45). An ex-post-facto, cross-sectional research design was followed. Results showed a direct and significant connection between high-perceived cooperative learning contexts and high students’ task and self-approach goals. The odds ratio tests verified this positive association, indicating a 4-times greater probability for students who perceived a strong cooperative learning context in the classroom of having high task and self-approach goals. In the same line, we observed that, as the perception of a cooperative learning context increased, task and self-approach goals also increased. This means that a small change in the class context to make it more cooperative had an impact on the students’ achievement goals. Teachers should try to create class contexts where students perceive a strong cooperative learning climate, because it has been connected to adaptive motivational patterns, task and self-approach goals, and these are associated with positive outcomes.

Objectives:  The study was to find out the relationship between Facebook usage and participation in physical activities. Methods: During the year 2020, a cross-sectional study was conducted on 250 identified students from 5000 in the faculty of Allied Health Science at the University of Lahore, Pakistan. According to this survey use the technique of convenience sampling, after the formula of sampling by Yamane (1967). All of the questioners of the independent and the dependent variable are used for the measure Facebook addiction of the participation in physical activity. Results: Demographic data male participation 134 (53.6%) and 116 (46%) females in this study. The relationship among variables is .11, which is significant at p> .001. This result shows that there is a greater than a 0.1% chance that the independent variable (F.B) affects participation in the physical activity. The study reveals the limited benefits excessive use of Facebook is a little effect on participation in physical activity. Conclusion: As per this result, the limited benefits excessive use of Facebook is a little effect on participation in physical activity; another aspect may be an effect on the participation on the physical activity like social, educational, behavioral and economic, etc.
