Fevers are considered as the most important parameters to evaluate and diagnose most of the disease conditions like inflammations, wounds and other infections. There are effective drugs that treat and control the fevers out of which NSAID's are most important ones. They cause notable side effects like gastric ulcers, gastric mucosal perforations etc. which make the use of those drugs limited. Herbs are used to treat various diseases, starting from the evolution of the human race. During this, herbs had been introduced to many types of tests and scientific investigations to prove the activities that herbs possess. The diseases that the herbs are used for are notable in the medical systems like Ayurveda and other systems. The need for the validation of the activities of the herbs and medicinal plants is utmost important these days. The extracts of the plant leaves of Desmodium gangeticum were extracted with ethanol and then investigated for the antipyretic activity in yeast induced pyretic method. The extract was tested in two doses 200 and 400mg/kg. This was found significant when compared to the standard drug.

The prepared tablets showed a better activity compared to the standard synthetic drug and the marketed ayurvedic formulation. The tablets showed a dose-dependent activity in ulcer prevention and treatment. Many synthetic drugs are available for the ulcer treatment, and the drugs pose the other problems in the body by showing the side effects and some other reactions. This limits the use of synthetic drugs to treat ulcers effectively. The article is the second part of the research that consider and analyze two exhibitions held in recent years at the A.S. Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts named, “Chanel: according to the laws of art” (2007) and “Dior: under the sign of art” (2011), dedicated to the largest fashion designers of our time. The original concepts and artistic solutions of the exhibition design of these exhibitions became events not only in the fashion world, but also in the art of the exhibitiaon. These exhibitions presented various exhibition solutions, vivid artistic images, expressive spatial organization, conceptual and scenographic arrangement of copyright collections in the context of high fine art. The most important conceptual component of the exhibitions was to present the art of fashion designers, juxtaposing, giving rise to associations and building analogies and contexts with visual art, against which unique collections were exhibited and in the circle. With this single conceptual view of their work, and the single space of the museum in which the exhibitions were held, the artistic and architectural strategy of the exhibitions was diametrically opposite, revealing the palette and variety of artistically expressive means and modern exhibition design. Both exhibitions were created by modern foreign curators and designers and represent talented and creative exposition projects, the analysis of which can be useful for domestic environmental design as vivid examples of the exposition as a genre of plastic art, which is considered the modern museum and exhibition exposition at its highest and creative forms.

Abstract Background For newborns and infants wearing diapers the difficulties in characterizing the appearance of the stool are significant, since the changes in consistency, quantity, and color of the stool are higher than in other age groups. The Amsterdam Infant Stool Scale (AISS) was created and validated in 2009, providing a specific tool for the evaluation of the stool of children up to 120 days old. However, to be used in clinical practice and scientific investigations in Brazil, it is mandatory to perform the translation and cross-cultural adaptation process for Brazilian Portuguese language. Thus, we aim to perform the translation and cross-cultural adaptation of AISS into Brazilian Portuguese and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the translated version. Methods The process of translation and cross-cultural adaptation was performed according to the internationally accepted methodology, including: translation, summary of translations, backtranslation, preparation of the pre-final version, application of the pre-test and determination of the final version. The evaluation of the psychometric properties was performed through the application of Brazilian Portuguese AISS, by five examiners (including child health field specialists and a literate adult lay on the subject), analyzing 238 stool photographs of children under 120 days old. The intra and inter-examiner agreement values were determined using kappa statistic. The validity of the criterion was investigated through correlation analysis (Kendall’s coefficient) between the classifications determined by the non-specialist examiner and the expert examiners. Results In all 30 tests performed between different examiners, there was an agreement considered as at least moderate (kappa values above 0.40). The intra-examiner reliability was considered as substantial (kappa> 0.6). There was a statistically significant correlation (p <  0.05) between the classifications determined by the examiners considered as specialists and the examiner considered as non-specialist. Conclusion The Brazilian Portuguese AISS version proved to be valid and reliable to be used by healthcare professionals and the general public in the evaluation of stool from children up to 120 days old.

Abstract Objectives Meditation is an umbrella term for a vast range of contemplative practices. Former proposals have struggled to do justice to this variety. To our knowledge, there is to date no comprehensive overview of meditation techniques spanning all major traditions. The present studies aimed at providing such a comprehensive list of meditation techniques. Methods In a qualitative study, we compiled a collection of 309 meditation techniques through a literature search and interviews with 20 expert meditators. Then, we reduced this collection to 50 basic meditation techniques. In a second, quantitative study, 635 experienced meditators from a wide range of meditative backgrounds indicated how much experience they had with each of these 50 meditation techniques. Results Meditators’ responses indicated that our choice of techniques had been adequate and only two techniques had to be added. Our additional statistical and cluster analyses illustrated preferences for specific techniques across and within diverse traditions as well as sets of techniques commonly practiced together. Body-centered techniques stood out in being of exceptional importance to all meditators. Conclusions In conclusion, we found an amazing variety of meditation techniques, which considerably surpasses previous collections. Our selection of basic meditation techniques might be of value for future scientific investigations and we encourage researchers to use this set.

Abstract This article explores the networking activities of Count Nikolai Rumiantsev and Adam von Krusenstern, his close collaborator. The visionary Russian statesman and the celebrated navigator were deeply involved in northern exploration. They funded and organized a circumnavigating voyage by the brig Rurik in 1815–18, with the explicit goals of searching for a northern passage between Eurasia and North America and conducting a series of scientific investigations in the Bering Strait region. This private exploratory enterprise profoundly influenced the exchange of information and reconfigured both local and global networks of knowledge. Based on an analysis of private correspondence, printed accounts and journal articles related to the Rurik's expedition, this study sheds light on how this transnational network of actors emerged and functioned, and how it promoted a lively circulation of information about exploration in the Bering Strait region in the 1810s–1820s. I argue that a complex interplay of geopolitical and intellectual competition, with exchanges, collaborations and coordination among various actors (e.g. patrons, navigators, scholars, entrepreneurs and publishers), stimulated further research on the global ocean's northern spaces and laid the foundations of marine science.
