Bio-based and biodegradable materials have the potential to replace traditional petroleum-based plastics across a range of products and contribute to a more circular economy. However, the uptake of these materials will not succeed unless consumers, manufacturers, and regulators are convinced of their efficacy. Investigating performance and safety concerns put forward by academic and non-academic communities, this paper assesses whether these concerns are being adequately addressed by current policy and regulation. In addition, measures to overcome significant concerns are developed through a series of stakeholder engagement events, informed by the Prospex-CQI-and STIR methodology. Discussions across the stakeholder engagement events have highlighted several concerns that create barriers to market up-take of bio-based and biodegradable plastic products, including the continued confusion regarding terminology and resultant communication, difficulties in navigating the plethora of documents related to safety, the appropriateness of safety documents when applied to new products, and the overall suitability and sustainability of such materials as an alternative to traditional plastics. To overcome these concerns, a series of recommendations for research, policy, and practice are made with respect to the following key areas of concern: regulation and legislative instruments, material quality and performance, market penetration and availability, waste management infrastructure, sourcing and supply chain, communication and information provision, and material health and safety.

Accounting graduates entering the work environment are often criticized for the quality of their communication skills and leadership ability. In response to these and other problems, members of the AICPA recently voted to restrict membership in the Institute after the year 2000 to those individuals who have obtained a minimum of 150 semester hours of higher education. Moreover, several states (for example Florida, Utah, Hawaii, and Tennessee) have adopted a similar 150 semester hour requirement. While these steps may enhance the communication skills of students this talent may also be developed through the effective use of student academic and professional organizations as an extension of the educational process. This article presents a two-tiered organizational structure and activities which can be used to mitigate these deficiencies in the account students educational background.

Workplace sexual harassment (WSH) has been recognized in the literature as a serious problem for the past 40 years. Since 2017, the global #MeToo movement has fostered local awareness of WSH and inspired researchers in China to pay increasing attention. Guided by the gender empowerment theory, this study investigated the relationships between women’s responses as targets of WSH (e.g., choosing avoidance or confrontation) and both their perceptions of gender equality and their knowledge of the relevant national laws. We used data from a recent large-scale online survey conducted on the topic of sexual harassment among Chinese women in four metropolitan cities in 2018 and selected 862 women who had experienced WSH during the previous 12 months as the study sample. The results revealed that 545 of the respondents chose to show resistance when faced with WSH, while 287 identified their boss as their harasser. In addition, respondents’ perceptions of gender equality and their knowledge of national laws on anti-domestic violence were shown to have positive effects on their responses as targets of WSH. Moreover, monthly income, household registration, and type of WSH were found to be associated with targets’ responses in a statistically significant way, whereas their marital status, educational background, and age were not. Furthermore, the study found that the boss as harasser weakened the relationship between women’s perception of gender equality and their active response to WSH incidents. With this study, we advance our understanding of the important role that perceptions of gender equality play in women’s responses as targets of WSH, and we discuss implications for prevention and intervention efforts that encourage targets to actively respond. We advocate promoting education on gender equality, fostering awareness of the laws and regulations relevant to WSH, and cultivating an organizational culture and environment that is hostile toward WSH.

This chapter focuses on the differential possession of digital skills. Here, four types of Internet skills are distinguished: operational, formal, information, and strategic skills. These types are measured in a number of experimental performance tests among a cross-section of the Dutch population. The tests focus on the use of online government information. The main result of the experimental test is that the average Dutch population performs fairly well in operational and formal Internet skills but much worse in information and strategic skills. However, there are significant differences between people with different age and educational background; no gender differences have been observed. The final sections of this chapter deal with ways to overcome these differences of skill. Two main strategies are discussed: improving the information provision of government Web sites and improving the digital skills of citizens or users by all kinds of educational means.

This study was attempted to find out whether there are differences in skin care characteristics depending on general characteristics of middle-aged women living in Dalian, China. As a result, age showed significant differences from skin care information source, preferred facial care, academic background showed differences from skin care information source, preferred facial care, occupations showed differences in skin care method, average monthly income from skin care information source, skin care methods, and preferred facial care. Through this study, it was revealed that there are significant differences in skin care characteristics depending on the general characteristics of middle-aged women living in Dalian, China. In particular, skin care information sources were most introduced by friends and acquaintances, and they mainly take care of their skin through home care. This seems to have an impact on relationship culture based on experience and trust even though middle-aged women's social advancement and educational background are gradually increasing under China's reform and opening policy. Therefore, skin care marketing for middle-aged women, who are emerging as a new blue ocean in the Chinese skin beauty market, needs to establish a strategy based on China's relationship culture. The results of this study are meaningful in providing basic data for the development and marketing of skin care programs for middle-aged Chinese women.

Age, gender, educational background, and so on are the most basic attributes for identifying and portraying users. It is also possible to conduct in-depth mining analysis and high-level predictions based on such attributes to learn users’ preferences and personalities so as to enhance users’ online experience and to realize personalized services in real applications. In this paper, we propose using classification algorithms in machine learning to predict users’ demographic attributes, such as gender, age, and educational background, based on one month of data collected with the Sogou search engine with the goal of making user portraits. A multi-model approach using the fusion algorithms is adopted and hereby described in the paper. The proposed model is a two-stage structure using one month of data with demographic labels as the training data. The first stage of the structure is based on traditional machine learning models and neural network models, whereas the second one is a combination of the models from the first stage. Experimental results show that our proposed multi-model method can achieve more accurate results than the single-model methods in predicting user attributes. The proposed approach also has stronger generalization ability in predicting users’ demographic attributes, making it more adequate to profile users.

BackgroundWomen in the UK spend up to 30 years avoiding pregnancy, and effective use of contraception requires detailed information and support. Online forums offer opportunities to discuss contraception with few restrictions. Analysis of these discussions may generate learning on the information needs and preferences of their users. We analysed contraceptive discussions on forums to explore content, motivation for engaging, behaviours observed and outcomes reported.MethodsWe selected 50 threads across five English-speaking public forums, which contained more than 1000 contraceptive-specific threads. We generated a stratified sample of these threads (n=250) and then completed a qualitative thematic analysis.ResultsForum users seek urgent help, emotional support and the detailed accounts of others. The work of posting on forums is significant and includes framing the question to generate the desired response type, managing responses and assessing their value. Conversations were consistently framed in relation to healthcare and were important for preparing for, understanding and responding to consultations. Most of the technical information was accurate or corrected within the conversation. For most users this enquiry was part of a broader decision-making process and there was no evidence that users planned to make decisions based on forum discussions alone.ConclusionsOur analysis has implications for healthcare organisations that offer or signpost to online information on contraception. It suggests that improvements in the online ‘wrap around’ information are needed to help decide when to consult, prepare for the consultation, understand the information given and manage post-consultation questions.

The article deals with modern approaches to the information provision of the functioning of innovative and integrated structures. The solution of the tasks set out in the article is carried out with the help of general scientific research methods, namely: analysis, systematization and generalization. The methodological and theoretical basis of the study served as the provisions of economic theory, theory of management, ideas and provisions set forth in scientific works on the problems of information provision of the functioning of innovative and integrated structures. It is noted that one of the main problems, the solution of which ensures survival and achieving the strategic goals of the entity are the effective management of it. At the same time, the management process requires an appropriate provision system, which, along with subsystems of methodological, organizational and managerial, includes information provision, which today is the most uncertain. It is substantiated that for optimal functioning of the entity, information provision should be fully integrated into its activities, and on the other hand - business should continuously experience support from information provision and receive maximum benefits from their use. Consequently, information security is shifted to the center of the enterprise management paradigm. The modern system of management of the entity is characterized by a complex information system, which is associated with the exchange of external and internal information flows, multivariation of types of information that circulates in the management system. Approaches to the definition of categories "Information" and "Information Provision" are considered. It is emphasized that the information provision is only "tools" to achieve the goals. It is proved that the information provision of the functioning of innovative - integrated structures is more complex. The priority of the creation and functioning of innovative and integrated structures and investigates the types of their information provision. It is proved that effective functioning of innovation-integrated structures is possible only in the effective use of adequate information provision, which is an instrument for making managerial decisions at all levels, the strategic resource of innovation - integrated structures.
