The purpose of the current study is to determine teacher educators’ level of general subject matter competency perception and to investigate whether this level varies depending on different variables. In the collection of the data of the study employing the survey model, a single dimension and 106-item “scale of teacher educators’ general subject matter competency perceptions” was used. The scale was prepared in the online environment and sent to 8200 faculty members working in education faculties all over Turkey by e-mail. A total of 789 teacher educators responded to the scale. It was found that the teacher educators generally consider themselves highly competent in terms of general subject matter competences. The area with the lowest competence perception level was found to be foreign language. The teacher educators’ general subject matter competence perceptions were found to be not varying significantly depending on their gender, type of the university where they are working (state/foundation), academic title, discipline (educational sciences/subject area education) and teaching experience. In light of these findings, it can be argued that these competences should be considered in the recruitment of teacher educators in education faculties.

A survey was conducted among foreign students studying at Natural Sciences Education Faculty of the I. Yakovlev Chuvash State Pedagogical University located in Cheboksary, the Republic of Chuvashia, Russia. The methodology was used to diagnose the learning motivation of students and a survey was conducted in order to identify socio-pedagogical conditions of students adaptation to the university. Leading motives have been established that determine the desire of foreign students to obtain higher education in Russian cities. The dynamics of student motivation changes has been revealed. It is also found that the assessment of the university and faculty management work by foreign students testifies to the favorable social and pedagogical environment that is developed at the faculty and university. Foreign students poor knowledge of special terminology used for the study of natural sciences is noted. The author identified that it is necessary for foreign students to acquire professional activities of pedagogical education bachelors. Studying at a pedagogical university is demanded by foreign citizens from Central Asia states. Working with foreign students enriches the teaching experience of faculty members. Strengthening multicultural relations, creating conditions conducive to the full self-realization of foreign students personality facilitates the process of their adaptation and integration into the educational environment. Training a prospective bachelor of pedagogical education as a specialist takes place in the context of motivations change throughout the learning process. At the same time, an important point is the confidence in the future profession. In such conditions, educational and cognitive motives become more important and stimulate students to acquire knowledge in the field of their chosen profession.

The Remote Observation of Graduate Interns (ROGI) is a method crafted by researchers at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte that allows graduate interns completing their student teaching experience to be observed remotely. Initially developed as a teacher shortage solution, ROGI remains an active method of observing interns geographically removed from the university through a virtual, synchronous format. Since its inception, ROGI has progressed as a technological tool, and college policies have evolved to adopt its utility. Authors describe the components of ROGI, its implementation, and ways in which the process has changed over the first four years of use. They present research to articulate how technology-mediated processes introduced new ways of thinking about traditional approaches to teacher education and new challenges that accompanied this innovation. Authors conclude with recommendations for future research and how other researchers might embrace the potential of emerging technologies in preparing teacher educators.

This paper aims to reveal primary teachers knowledge of the quadrilaterals about the concept of quadrilaterals by examining the definitions of the quadrilaterals. A total of four primary teachers, 1 female and 3 male teachers, participated in the study which determined by maximum diversity sampling. The data collection tool consisted of four open-ended questionnaires, which were not based on mathematical procedural knowledge of the teachers and aims to reveal the subject matter knowledge of quadrilaterals. The first question is about the definition of the quadrilaterals (square, rectangle, trapezoid, parallelogram, rhombus and deltoid), the second question is the determination of the characteristics of the quadrilaterals, the 3rd question is the comparison of the characteristics of the quadrilaterals and the 4th question is about related to the nomenclature of the quadrilaterals. The data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis method (Zazkis & Leikin, 2008). As a result of analyzes, it was seen that the subject area information of the participants was insufficient. In order to be successful in the teaching of geometry, the in-service training activities should be organized in order to eliminate the deficiencies in the subject matter knowledge and the necessity of reviewing the mathematics courses they took at the university, which can be corrected first, in the context of the content.

The Leader in Medicine (LIM) Program of the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, hosted its 7th Annual LIM Research Symposium on October 30, 2015 and participation grew once again, with a total of six oral and 99 posters presentations! Over 45 of our Faculty members also participated in the symposium. This year’s LIM Symposium theme was “Innovations in Medicine” and the invited guest speaker was our own Dr. Breanne Everett (MD/MBA). She completed her residency in plastic surgery at University of Calgary and holds both a medical degree and an MBA from the University of Calgary. In her inspiring talk, entitled “Marrying Business and Medicine: Toe-ing a Fine Line”, she described how she dealt with a clinical problem (diabetic foot ulcers), came up with an innovation that optimized patient care, started her own company and delivered her product to market to enhance the health of the community. She clearly illustrated how to complete the full circle, from identifying a clinical problem to developing and providing a solution that both enhances clinical care and patient health as well as reduces health care costs and hospital admissions. The research symposium was an outstanding success and the abstracts are included in companion article in CIM.
