In field conditions, the more usual application of cytokinins is based mainly on seed treatment and foliar spraying. Nowadays, seed priming with plant growth regulators is a successful agricultural practice due to its easy application in annual crops, resulting in a higher vigor and production. In order to evaluate the effect of the treatment of common bean seeds with N6-benzyladenine (6-BA), in the morphophysiology and crop yield, an experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, in a completely randomized design with four replicates and five doses of 6-BA (0, 0.0375, 0.075, 0.1125 and 0.15 g kg-1 of seed). The growth regulator was applied to the seeds in order to cover their entire surface. At 30 days after emergence, the physiological parameters were increased as a function of the doses of 6-BA. On the other hand, at 30 and 45 days after emergence of the crop, there was a drastic reduction in nodulation with increased 6-BA doses, which resulted in the lower accumulation of leaf nitrogen, pod number, and common bean yield. The ranging doses till 0.15 g kg-1 of seed of the cytokinin 6-BA are not recommended in seed priming of common beans. However, the effective recommendation of cytokinin as a seed priming is still not determined, and studies about products and doses must be improved before recommendation.

ABSTRACT: Improper management of weeds is one of the causes of low bean yield, as it is very susceptible to interference due to their slow initial growth. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of dayflower on grain yield and nutrient accumulation of bean cultivars. The experiment was carried out in a screened house, in 5 L pots, in a 2 x 4 factorial scheme. Factor 1 corresponded to the presence or absence of weeds, and factor 2 bean cultivars: BRS Pontal, BRS Agreste, BRS Ametista and BRS Estilo. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with five replications. The coexistence of bean and weed was maintained throughout the crop cycle. Chlorophyll content, number of pods per plant, number of grains per plant, nutrients contents (N - nitrogen, P - phosphorus, K - potassium, Ca - calcium, Mg - magnesium, Mn - manganese, Fe - iron and Zn - zinc) in grains were evaluated. Competition with weeds negatively influenced chlorophyll content, number of pods, yield and N content in grains. The interaction was significant to P, Mg and Fe contents in grains, demonstrating that competition with weeds may impair allocation of these nutrients, resulting in grains of inferior nutritional quality. The cultivar BRS Agreste was more efficient to accumulate P and Mg in grains in competition with dayflower.

ABSTRACT Common bean crop plays an important role in the world, not only in economic aspects but also in social development. The objective of this study was to evaluate the grain yield and the economically optimal water depth which reflects the maximum technical efficiency of the common bean crop. The experiment was conducted in greenhouse, in Alegrete - RS, from February to May 2016. A completely randomized design was used, consisting of five water replacement treatments (25, 50, 75, 100 and 125% crop evapotranspiration - ETc) and four replicates. Based on the obtained results, both water deficit and water excess directly affected the final grain yield of the crop. Maximum grain yield was 3,554.1 kg ha-1, obtained by applying 492.72 mm (100% ETc). On the other hand, the economically optimal water depth was estimated at 91.2% ETc, indicating that water depths above this value are not suitable for maximum technical efficiency in the common bean crop under these conditions. It was concluded that the water depth equivalent to 100% ETc maximizes grain yield for the region of Alegrete-RS, and irrigation is considered a solution in the water supply to the common bean crop during critical periods.

The evaluation of seed priming methods on the seed and seedling performance of soursop was conducted January 9 to April 3, 2019 in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.  The study was conducted to investigate the effect of seed priming methods  capable of breaking dormancy; improve germination rate; determine the seed vigor of soursop; and identify the best seed priming method that provide better seedling performance. The experimental  treatments (unprimed and three priming methods, hydropriming, halopriming and hormonal priming) were laid out in Completely Randomized Design with three replications. A     total of 20 polyethylene bags were used per treatment per replication with one seed sown in every bag. Alternative way to improve seed and seedling performance is the use of these seed priming methods. The seed and seedling performance of soursop were significantly affected by priming methods. Primed seeds had higher percentage germination rate (PGR) than unprimed seeds. But numerically, the highest PGR was hydropriming. Hormonal priming produced significantly taller seedlings at 10 and 40 days after emergence (DAE) than unprimed seeds and more leaves per seedling at 30 to 50 DAE. Hormonal, hydropriming and halopriming produced significantly higher fresh weight of seedlings than unprimed seeds.

Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP) synthetic as a feed additive can stimulate growth, prevent some health problems, and improve feed efficiency. However, its journey has raised concerns due to adverse effects such as residues and microbial resistance. The use of turmeric flour and betaine as feed additives is expected to substitute the use of AGP Synthetic in improving the performance of pig carcasses and the safety of consumption. This study was aimed to examine the effect of the addition of turmeric flour and different doses of betaine in the ration on the performance of finisher period pigs. The study was conducted experimentally using a completely randomized design with four treatments and five replications. The objects of the study were 20 male and female finisher Landrace pigs with a finisher period with initial body weights of 55-66 kg/head. The study rations used were R0: basal ration, R1: R0 + 0.4% turmeric flour + 0.1% betaine, R2: R0 + 0.4% turmeric flour + 0.15% betaine and R3: R0 + 0.4% turmeric flour + 0.2% betaine. The parameters measured were carcass weight, backfat thickness, and loin eye area. The addition of turmeric flour treatment did not have any significant effects on carcass weight and thickness of the back fat of the pig. The addition of 0.4% turmeric flour and 0.15% betaine in the ration was the best treatment and resulted in a different effect on the loin eye area compared to that of R0, while treatment R1 and R3 had a similar effect on it. The result of the addition of 0.4% turmeric flour and 0.15% betaine resulted in the loin eye area of the finisher pig of 53.4 cm2

Guppy fish Poecilia reticulata is one of the most popular freshwater ornamental fish species because it is easy to main-tain, and has beautiful variations of color, especially males. One method to produce male guppy is masculinization me-thod. This study aimed to determine the dose of hormone treatment from visceral organ of sea cucumber to the process masculinization of fish guppy. This study used a completely randomized design with the immersion treatment of parent guppy which has been bred into the extract solution of sea cucumber innards for 24 hours with different doses i.e. 0 mg L-1, 10 mg L-1, 20 mg L-1, 30 mg L-1 and 22 mg L-1 (metiltestosterone as positive control). The parameter measured was the percentage of male fish produced. The results showed that although the effect of the treatment was not significantly different, but it can be said to be significantly different to the treatment of 0 mg L-1 (control) to obtain the best result for masculinization of guppy at 30 mg L-1 immersion and the best survival rate on treatment of 0 mg L-1 (control). The re-sults of this study suggest that the masculinization technology on the parent stock can be done using extracts of sea cu-cumber innards which has been considered as waste.

A greenhouse experiment was conducted to study the combined effects of cadmium toxicity, application of vermicompost and inoculation of arbuscular mycorrhiza on soybean. The experiment was laid out in a completely randomized design (factorial) and replicated thrice. The treatments included arbuscular mycorrhiza in two levels (inoculation and non- inoculation in soil), vermicompost in two levels (application @ 5 % of soil weight and non-application) and cadmium chloride in five levels (0, 20, 40, 80 and 160 mg kg-1 of soil). The result showed that increasing concentrations of cadmium chloride significantly increased electrolyte leakage and leaf transpiration, and decreased photosynthetic rate, Fv/Fm, root weight, pod number per plant and grain weight per plant. Application of vermicompost and mycorrhiza decreased the toxic effects of cadmium chloride. Application of vermicompost increased Fv/Fm, grain weight per plant, number pods per plant and seed oil percent, and application of mycorrhiza increased root weight and photosynthetic rate.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to recover the flow rate of clogged drippers with different doses and permanence times of the product MaxBio. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design in split-split-plot scheme, where the plots corresponded to product doses (80, 160, 240 and 320 mg L-1), subplots to the applied treatments (T1 - without biological treatment, T2 - 1st application of the product, and T3 - 2nd application of the product) and in sub-subplots the types of emitters (Plastro Hydrodrip Super, Netafim Tiran and Netafim PCJ-CNJ), with three replicates. The four irrigation units operated with treated domestic wastewater for 400 h in order to clog the emitters. After applying the product MaxBio, the flow rate of the drippers and the relative flow rate reduction were determined to express the unclogging levels. There was significant effect of T2 and T3 on the recovery of the flow rate of the drippers, while for the reduction of relative flow rate, the doses of the product did not show statistical difference regarding the types of drippers.

The challenge of recovering degraded soils due to salinity excess leads to the search for more effective strategies that can overcome this problem. Among these, one of the approaches is the use of resistant plant varieties in affected areas. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of different doses of salts on seed germination and seedling formation of two lettuce cultivars (Hanson and H121) and to verify the existence of tolerance among the cultivars. A completely randomized design was used in a 2x5x4 factorial scheme, where the cultivars were evaluated under five distinct salt doses (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 mol.m-3, conductivities of 0.0, 2.8, 5.4, 8.0 and 10.6 dS.m-1, respectively), with four replicates. In this sense, the following variables were evaluated: germination rate (GR), germination speed index (GSI), seedling height (SH), root length (RL) and percentage of dry matter in relation to fresh matter (DM%). As a result, the Hanson cultivar presented better performance than the H121, under all the different salt doses, in all the studied variables. Also, the EC of 2.8 dS.m-1 did not affect any of the studied variables, including both cultivars. However, EC above 2.8 dS.m-1had, significantly, reduced the development of the cultivars. The Hanson cultivar was influenced only in the variables SH, RL and DM%, where and DM% were influenced by EC values above 8.0 and 10.6 dS.m-1, respectively. The cultivar H121 was significantly influenced by all evaluate dvariables, which demonstrates its greater susceptibility to salinity.
