OBJECTIVES To assess student pharmacist best activity scores and related exam question performance based on the number of pediatric virtual patient activity (VPA) attempts. METHODS A 40-point asthma VPA was implemented and included three possible randomized scenarios. A 60-point meningitis VPA was implemented and included three possible randomized scenarios followed by an additional three possible randomized scenarios only if the first scenario was correctly completed. Points were awarded in the VPA based on appropriateness of treatment decisions. Students were allowed unlimited VPA attempts individually and as a group in class. Three exam questions were based on a fourth scenario of each randomized portion of the VPAs. The Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U test, and T-test were used for statistical comparisons when appropriate. RESULTS Of 132 students, median individual best asthma VPA scores were 15.25, 22, and 30 for those with 1, 2, and ≥3 asthma attempts, respectively (p < 0.001). Median individual best meningitis VPA scores were 4, 5, 7, and 45.5 for those with 1, 2, 3 to 4, and ≥5 attempts, respectively (p < 0.001). Median number of group VPA attempts was higher among students who correctly answered the exam question related to the first randomized meningitis scenario (10 versus 4, p = 0.015), although no differences in attempts were found for the other related questions (all p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Students who completed the VPAs more times achieved greater individual best scores. Students who correctly answered related exam questions had a higher number of group VPA attempts only when continuation of the VPA required correct randomized scenario completion.

ANALISIS VARIABEL YANG BERPENGARUH TERHADAP KINERJA PERUSAHAAN DI BURSA EFEK INDONESIAOleh : Suseno STIE SATRIA Purwokerto ABSTRACT The aims of the research are (1) to analyze influence of age, scale, financial leverage, and profitability to performance of firms at The Indonesian Stock Exchange. (2) to determine the most influential variable on the performance of the firms. Hypotheses proposed in this research were: (1) Age, Scales, Financial Leverage, Profitability influences the performance of firms, (2) Age influences the performance of firms, (3) Scales influences the performance of firms, (4) Financial Leverage influences the performance of firms, (5) Profitability influences the performance of firms. Instrument of analysis employed in the research was multiple linear regression with t test and F test. The results of analyses of t test showed that profitability did not influence the performance of the firms. It was indicated by the value of computed t which was smaller than the value of t table. Meanwhile, the t test of age, scale and financial leverage indicated that the value of computed t > t table. It means that these variables (scale and financial leverage) influenced the performance of the firms. The F test showed that the independent variables of age, scale, financial leverage and profitability as a whole significantly influenced the performance of the firms. It was indicated by the calculated F > the value of F table, the value the age computed t which was smaller than the value of -t table..Based on the research results that age and profitability do not influence the performance of the firms, it is suggested that investors should not pay any attention to those variables. On the other hand, they should pay attention to the variables of scale and financial leverage. It is recommended that for further research should include longer periode of the sample.

Abstract Background: Manuscripts pertaining to paediatric cardiology and CHD have been published in a variety of different journals. Some of these journals are journals dedicated to paediatric cardiology, while others are focused on adult cardiology. Historically, it has been considered that manuscripts published in journals devoted to adult cardiology have greater citation potential. Our objective was to compare citation performance between manuscripts related to paediatric cardiology and CHD published in paediatric as opposed to adult cardiology journals. Methods: We identified manuscripts related to paediatric cardiology and CHD published in five journals of interest during 2014. Of these journals, two were primarily concerned with adult cardiology, while the other three focused on paediatric cardiology. The number of citations for these identified manuscripts was gathered from Google Scholar. We compared the number of citations (median, mean, and 25th, 75th, 90th, and 95th percentiles), the potential for citation, and the h-index for the identified manuscripts. Results: We identified a total of 828 manuscripts related to paediatric cardiology and congenital heart as published in the 5 journals during 2014. Of these, 783 (95%) were published in journals focused on paediatric cardiology, and the remaining 45 (5%) were published in journals focused on adult cardiology. The median number of citations was 41 in the manuscripts published in the journals focused on adult cardiology, as opposed to 7 in journals focused on paediatric cardiology (p < 0.001). The h-index, however, was greater for the journals dedicated to paediatric cardiology (36 versus 27). Conclusion: Approximately one-twentieth of the work relating to paediatric cardiology and CHD is published in journals that focus predominantly on adult cardiology. The median number of citations is greater when manuscripts concerning paediatric cardiology and CHD are published in these journals focused on adult cardiology. The h-index, however, is higher when the manuscripts are published in journals dedicated to paediatric cardiology. While such publications in journals that focus on adult cardiology tend to generate a greater number of citations than those achieved for works published in specialised paediatric cardiology journals, the potential for citation is no different between the journals. Due to the drastically lower number of manuscripts published in journals dedicated to adult cardiology, however, median performance is different.

The purpose of this study was to compare histologic and morphometric procedures of bone height measurement. Microscopic measurements are the most frequent methods in periodontal studies with animals, but have limited capacity to identify bone levels associated with both healthy tissues and periodontal disease. Ligatures were placed in the maxillary left second molars of 10 male 60-day-old Wistar rats for 30 days. Left and right maxillary sides of 5 rats were processed for histologic analysis (H), sectioned buccolingually, and stained with HE. The maxillae of the other 5 rats were defleshed and used for morphometric analysis (M). Histometric measurements from the cementoenamel junction to the bone crest were performed. Standardized photographs were used for morphometric analysis. The t test was used for dependent or independent samples (alpha = 0.05%). Distances from cementoenamel junction to bone crest were 0.95 ± 0.25 and 1.07 ± 0.30 mm for H and M, respectively. Buccal measurements were 0.92 ± 0.16 and 1.08 ± 0.35 mm for H and M. The values obtained using H and M for areas without ligatures were 0.44 ± 0.15 and 0.47 ± 0.11 mm for lingual measurements and 0.23 ± 0.08 and 0.41 ± 0.10 mm for buccal measurements. No significant differences were found between the two methods in the detection of bone height associated with the placement of ligatures in rats.

Abstract The aim of this in vitro study was to determine the fluoride concentration in silver diamine fluoride (SDF) products and their bioavailability with demineralized dentine. The products evaluated (expected fluoride concentrations) were: I: Saforide 38% (45,283 ppm F); II: Advantage Arrest 38.3 to 43.2% (45,283 to 51,013 ppm F); III: Ancárie 12% (14,100 ppm F); IV: Ancárie 30% (35,400 ppm F), V: Cariestop 12% (14,100 ppm F) and VI: Cariestop 30% (35,400 ppm F). The fluoride concentration was evaluated using an ion-specific electrode (ISE) by direct technique, which was confirmed after microdiffusion. The pH of the products was determined with a pH test strip. For the bioavailability test, demineralized dentine slabs were treated with one of the products for 1 min. Loosely (CaF2-like) and firmly-bound fluoride (FAp) were determined. The fluoride concentration found in the products (mean±SD; ppm F) by the ISE direct technique was: I:53,491±554; II:57,249±1,851; III:4,814±268; IV:5,726±43; V:10,145±468; VI:11,858±575; these values were confirmed after microdiffusion (t-test; p>0.05) and disagree with the declared by the manufacturers. The pH of Ancárie 12 and 30% was 6.0 and 4.5, respectively, in disagreement with the alkaline pH expected for SDF solution and found in the other products evaluated. There was no correlation between either CaF2-like (r=0.221; p=0.337) or FAp (r=-0.144; p=0.830) formed in demineralized dentine and fluoride concentration found in the products. The problems of pH and fluoride concentration found in available professional commercial SDF products suggest that they are not under sanitary surveillance.

In this research, it was aimed to determine the effect of learning stations designed for astronomy subjects on the academic achievement of students and give an alternative method for teaching astronomy in the literature. The mixed approach in which mixed quantitative and qualitative methods were used together was preferred in the study. Among the quantitative methods, the pre-test and post-test model of the semi-experimental method was used; in addition, the protocols were applied about the method, which was used. The research was carried out with 98 seventh class students, who were under education in a secondary school located in the Eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey in the education year of 2015-2016. The quantitative data were analysed via the Astronomy Achievement Test (AAT) developed by the researchers and had 0,795 Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient. The astronomy subjects in science lesson of the seventh class were studied with the experimental group through the learning stations; on the other hand, they were studied with the students in the control group through the activities stated in the textbook prepared by the Ministry of Education. The AAT was applied for the experimental, control groups using the pre- and post-tests, and data were analysed with the t-test. Meaningful difference was determined in AAT pre-test average scores of experimental and control groups; on the other hand, a meaningful difference was determined between the groups according to the independent samples t-test results applied with the average scores of the post-test(p<0.05). As a result of the analysis of the data gathered with the Station Observation Form (SOF), developed for the research, it was found out that the students recognise the learning stations as a technique of useful, entertaining, engaging, and easy-to-learn that enable them to learn astronomy topics effectively.Extended English abstract is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file. The objective of this study was to assess the magnitudes of the leaf allelopathy of Ulex europaeus in two different habitats, and discuss the driver of the differences, including rhizobia. The magnitudes of leaf allelopathy of the samples collected in two different habitats were assessed by comparing the hypocotyl and radicle lengths of the lettuce seeds tested on the samples. One habitat was in and adjacent to an Acasia koa forest, while the other was more than 50 m away. A. koa is indigenous to Hawaii and known to have a close symbiotic relationship with Bradyrhizobium for nitrogen-fixing. Within the past three years, U. europaeus has newly invaded both sampling sites, whereas the A. koa forest has been there for several decades. The combined result of both hypocotyl and radicle lengths of the lettuce seeds tested on both sites by linear model and multicomparison analyses showed no significant difference. But the radicle lengths of the lettuce seeds tested on U. europaeus sampled in and adjacent to the A. koa forest were significantly longer than those of the samples more than 50 m away, as measured by t-test (p = 0.05). This result suggested that the magnitude of the leaf allelopathy of U. europaeus depended on the distance of the habitat from the A. koa forest.
