Fish is considered a crucial resource for the sustenance of livelihoods in water-dependent communities across the globe. However, geographical studies on innovations in the use of this resource are limited in the Cameroonian context. This study investigates the pattern of innovation diffusion in the utilization of fish resources, drawing from a random sample of 106 fishing households in Bangourain. The multiple linear regression analysis revealed that a single unit change in the natural drivers of innovation triggers a 0.164 change in the spatial diffusion of innovation in the utilization of fish resources (p-value > 0.05). With regards to the economic and cultural drivers of innovation, a unit change in their values lead respectively to a 0.538 and 0.424 shift in the diffusion of innovation. The results suggest that while the economic and cultural drivers of innovation are significant (P ˂ 0.05), those of natural drivers are insignificant (P ˃ 0.05). Policy interventions should leverage natural attributes to foster the effective diffusion of innovations – focusing on the tools and methods applied in fish harvesting.

Background: Depression and other mental illness are very common among chronic kidney disease and also Quality of life has been found significantly impaired in chronic kidney disease. The objective of our study is to study Depression, Quality of life and its associations in chronic kidney disease. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. We used convenient method of sampling for data collection. The World Health Organization Quality-of-Life 8-question scale was used for estimating quality of life and Beck Depression Inventory  was used for the assessment of depression.  Independent samples t-test was conducted to analysed bivariate relationship of sociodemographic factors with depression and Quality of life scores and multiple linear regression analysis was performed to determine predictors of Quality of life. Results: The 75.5% participants found to have depression. Depression was found statistically significant across socioeconomic status (p value 0.04) and other medical comorbidities (p value 0.04). Variables found to be significantly associated with total quality of life in multiple linear regression analysis were caste (p value 0.03), socioeconomic status (p value 0.009) and depression (p value 0.001). Conclusions: Depression and reduced quality of life is very common among chronic kidney patients. Low socioeconomic status and comorbid medical conditions were associated with depression and caste, low socioeconomic status and depression were associated with low quality of life. Screening and management of depression should be included in the routine care and it could help improving the quality of life of patients with chronic kidney disease. Keywords: chronic kidney disease; depression; quality of life

Abstract Background Endotrophin is one of the extracellular matrix proteins secreted by adipose tissue. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of changes in blood glucose levels on serum endotrophin levels secreted by adipose tissue and thus on diabetes. Methods In this prospective pilot study included 78 patients with type 2 diabete (T2D) with hemoglobin A1c level > 9 %. Lifestyle changes were recommended and appropriate medical treatment was initiated to all patients in order to reach the target HbA1c level. Data of anthropometric measurements, urinary albumin creatinine ratio (UACR), serum lipid parameters and endotrophin were collected in patients; all examinations were repeated after 3 months. Analysis was performed using Paired-Samles T test and Spearman tests. Results Of patients, 23 were female (54.8 %) and 19 were male (45.2 %). Mean age was 55.2 years, with mean diabetes age of 8.14 ± 5.35 years. After 3 months follow-up, HbA1c, fasting glucose, C-reactive protein(CRP), UACR and endotrophin levels were observed to clearly reduce. The variation in serum endotrophin levels examined at the start of the study and in the 3rd month was identified to have a positive correlation with the variation in HbA1c and UACR levels (r = 0.342, p = 0.02; r = 0.484, p = 0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis showed percentage variation values (δ)-endotrophin levels were only independently correlated with (δ)-UACR (model r2 = 0.257, p value = 0.00). Conclusions Endotrophin levels decreased significantly with the decrease in HbA1c. Unexpectedly, this reduction in endotrophin levels is closely related to the decrease in UACR, regardless of blood glucose regulation. We think that studies targeting endotrophin will contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of diabetic nephropathy in the future.

In the United States (U.S.), Congress has set ambitious goals for the diffusion of several e-government initiatives. One of congress’ recent goals was to significantly increase the percentage of tax and informational returns filed electronically. This chapter proposes a model of e-file adoption that integrates diffusion of innovation theory, online trust, and e-government experience into a comprehensive view of e-file acceptance. To test the model we administered a survey to 260 graduate and undergraduate students. The results of multiple linear regression analysis indicate that the proposed model explains 76% of the variance in intention to use an e-file system. Relative advantage, compatibility, trust of the government, trust of the Internet, e-filing in the past year, and previous completion of an e-government transaction all had a positive impact on e-file adoption. Implications for practice and research are discussed.

The study examined the impact of sound corporate governance on economic growth in Zimbabwe using an econometric model. A multiple linear regression analysis was employed to examine the relationship. Secondary data for the period 1968 to 2015 was collected from World Bank’s Worldwide Governance and World Development Indicators databases. It was found that sound corporate governance is significantly correlated to economic growth in Zimbabwe in a positive and negative manner with a p-value of 0.000023235 at 5% level of confidence. On one hand, control of corruption is negatively significantly related to economic growth and, on the other hand, political stability and absence of violence/terrorism positively significantly related to economic growth. Government effectiveness, regulatory quality, rule of law and voice and accountability are insignificant in influencing economic growth in Zimbabwe at 5% level of significance. The findings from this article will assist policy formulation, policy implementation and future research. This article, however, is of great importance to government, private sector and the academia.
