Background and Purpose: Many innovations are constantly emerging with the advances in modern medicine and also it is occurring in various traditional medicines as they are considered to be safe and economical in current increasing health care financial burden.  Due to emerging of MDR (multiple drug resistance) microorganisms and reduce efficacy of Modern medicines researchers and clinicians are required to revisit the traditional and alternative medicines. Material and Method: Extracts of garlic (Allium sativum), turmeric (Curcuma longa), amla (Emblica officinalis) and honey were prepared at concentration of 1mg/mL, 2mg/mL, 3mg/mL and were tested on different cancdidal species like Candida Albicans, Candida tropicalis, Candida glabrata, Candida Parapsilosis and Candida Krusei and on Fluconazole as a positive control. Disc Diffusion Test for antifungal assay was performed. Results: The anti-fungal effect was maximum at 3mg/mL concentration for all the herbal extracts. Zone of inhibition for fluconazole, was highest (35.00 ± 1.73). Among herbal extracts zone of inhibition for garlic was maximum (16.67 ± 0.88), followed by turmeric (12.67 ± 1.20), honey  (11.00 ± 0.58 ), amla  (9.33 ± 0.67 ). Similarly for each dose, comparing the mean zone of inhibition between antifungal groups Tukey test showed significantly (p<0.001) different and lower zone of inhibition in herbal extracts (garlic, turmeric, honey and amla) as compared to fluconazole at all the doses. Conclusion: Among all the extracts garlic showed maximum efficiency. Also, the results obtained for herbal extracts showed that they were less efficient compared to fluconazole which was used as positive control.

Chromosomal aberrations based human syndrome are very critical and sometimes leads to lethality. Such syndrome or disorders are often irreversible. In this present study, we evaluated the preventing effect of herbal extracts from Ocimum (tulsi), Curcuma (turmeric) and Allium (garlic) in developing chromosomal aberrations in whole blood human lymphocytes. The results showed that the clastogenic effect was minimised by the combination of all three herbal extracts compared to the individual extract effects. The spontaneous chromosomal aberrations caused in lymphoma cells were also minimized by the herbal extracts.

Objective: To evaluate the antibacterial and antifungal activity of three different medicinal plants invitro. Oil extracts of the plants from three different families (Hedyotis corymbosa, Inula racemose, Holostemma adakodien) are used to find the antibacterial and antifungal activity. Methods: Study of anti-microbial activity using agar cup diffusion method, inoculums preparation, Anti-bacterial activity screening (well diffusion method), Anti-fungal activity screening (well diffusion method) are the different methods which are used to find the anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activities of the oil extracts of the above medicinal plants. The activity of these oil extracts and the selected antibiotics are evaluated against four bacterial strains (E. Coli, S. aureus and P. aeruginosa) and three Candida fungal strains (albicans, parapsilosis and tropicalis.). The anti microbial activity of Hedyotis corymbosa, Inula racemose, Holostemma adakodien oil extracts zone of inhibition evaluation was compared with positive control of fungal strain Fluconozole and bacterial strain Norfloxacin, Cefepime and Gatifloxacin. Results: The anti microbial activity of Hedyotis corymbosa, Inula racemose, Holostemma adakodien oil extracts zone of inhibition evaluation was compared with positive control of fungal strain Fluconozole and bacterial strain Norfloxacin, Cefepime and Gatifloxacin. Further studies are needed to explore the novel antibacterial bioactive molecules. Conclusion: The plants Hedyotis corymbosa, Inula racemose and Holostemma adakodien have shown significant anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activity.

Garlic (Allium sativum) contains various biologically active components that play a significant role in the treatment of bacterial and fungal infections. It contains sulfur compounds like allicin, ajoene, allylmethyltrisulfide, diallyltrisulfide, diallyldisulphide and others which exhibit various biological properties like antimicrobial, anticancer, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic and cardiovascular effects. The objective of the current review was to relate various literatures and assess the anti-microbial potential of garlic extract. The antimicrobial potency of garlic can be maximised by increasing the concentration of the extract. Garlic extract of 100% concentration showed a maximum zone of inhibition against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) has been known as traditional medicine. Shallot which has same genus with garlic(Allium sativum L.) contains allicin that is also found in garlic and has been suspected has fungicidal activity toCandida albicans. It is supported by several researches. Therefore, shallot is suspected has antifungal activity too.The aim of this research was to know antifungal activity of shallot’s water extortion againsts Candida albicans invitro. This was a laboratory experimental research which used completely randomized design, with diffusion method.Shallot’s water extortion was devided into three concentrations, there were 50%, 100% and 200%. Ketoconazole 2%was positive control and aquadest was negative control. The result of this research based on analysis of varians(Anova), there was significant difference between several treatments and was confirmed with Duncan New MultipleRange Test (DNMRT) p<0,05, there was significant difference between 100% shallot’s water extortion with othertreatments, but there was no significant difference between 50% shallot’s water extortion with 200% shallot’s. Theconclusion was shallot’s water extortion had antifungal activity againsts Candida albicans with the best concentration100%, but it was lower than ketoconazole 2%.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated and compared the antimicrobial efficacy and minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of chlorhexidine 0.12% and extracts of aloe vera and mushroom against Streptococcus mutans and lactobacillus. MATERIALS & METHODOLOGY: The agar disc diffusion and broth micro dilution method was used to check the antimicrobial activity of 0.12% chlorhexidine and aqueous extracts of two medicinal plants. The test samples were divided as follows- Streptococcus mutans, group I: chlorhexidine, group II: Aloe vera and group III: Mushroom. Lactobacillus, Group I: chlorhexidine, group II: Aloe vera extract and group III: Mushroom extract. The zone of inhibition and MIC values were tabulated and the data was statistically analyzed using ANOVA and Bonferroni post- hoc tests. RESULTS: Chlorhexidine shows maximum antibacterial action against Streptococcus mutans and lactobacillus followed by mushroom extract and aloe veraextracts with the zone of inhibition of (20.3mm/ 24.13), (17.03/ 16.05), (14.09/14.26) respectively. Both the extracts had MIC value of 80µg/ ml and chlorhexidine was 40µg/ml. CONCLUSION: Within the limitations of this in- vitro study, it can be concluded that all the herbal extracts tested in this study demonstrated antibacterial activity against MS and lactobacillus. Chlorhexidine showed maximum antibacterial action against Streptococcus mutans and lactobacillus followed by mushroom extract and then aloe veraextracts with the zone of inhibition of (20.3mm/24.13), (17.03/ 16.05), (14.09/14.26) respectively. Herbal products have potent antimicrobial activity that can be looked at as an alternative to chlorhexidine. However, further in vitro and long-term in vivo studies are recommended to confirm and correlate the findings of this study clinically.

Previous in vitro studies showed that nanoparticle extract of turmeric, zedoary, and garlic exhibit antibacterial activity against Mycoplasma gallisepticum (M. gallisepticum) which causes chronic respiratory disease (CRD) in chicken. This research aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of nanoparticles of Curcuma longa, Curcuma zedoaria, and Allium sativum extract to CRD infected chicken. In vivo test of antibacterial activity of turmeric, zedoary, and garlic nanoparticle in combination was conducted on chicken infected by M. gallisepticum and Escherichia coli (E.coli). Antibiotic control used was enrofloxacin. As many as 75 chickens were divided into 5 groups containing 15 chickens each. Group one consisted of healthy chickens (positive control); group two consisted of chickens that have been inoculated by bacteria (negative control); group three (treatment) were chickens inoculated by bacterium and given extract nanoparticle combination on day 7 of infection for 7 days; group four (prevention) were chickens inoculated by bacterium and given combination of extract nanoparticles on day 5 before infection for 14 days; group five were chickens inoculated with bacterium and given enrofloxacin antibiotics for 7 days. In vivo research results showed increased body weight and performance indicated by improvements in clinical signs, and gross pathology changes. The combination of three extract nanoparticles showed the best activity in controlling CRD in chicken, both as preventive and curative means.

Objective: The current study was carried out to evaluate the anthelmintic activity of the rhizome extract of Curcuma longa as an alternative source of effective remedies for nematodiasis.Methods: The anthelmintic activity of the C. longa was assessed in vitro against Haemonchus spp., a gastrointestinal (abomasum) parasite of goats. Different concentrations of the extracts (1 mg/mL, 2.5 mg/mL, 5 mg/mL, and 10 mg/mL) in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) were tested, and the results expressed in terms of time of paralysis (minute) and time of death (minute) of the worms. Albendazole (1 mg/mL) was used as a reference (positive control) and PBS as a control group (negative control).Results: The qualitative phytochemical analysis of the methanolic extract (ME) of the plant disclosed the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, terpenoids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, phenol, anthraquinone, and carbohydrates; whereas, the aqueous extract (AE) showed the presence of alkaloids, carbohydrate, flavonoids, and saponins. Both ME and AE of the C. longa (rhizome) expressed significant efficacy (p≤0.05) in causing paralysis as well as the death of the worms within 12 h of exposure at all tested concentrations, as compared to the negative control. The rhizome extracts of C. longa showed dose-dependent efficacy in causing paralysis of the worm motility and the final progression to death. The results showed that the ME at 10 mg/mL was significantly more potent (p≤0.05) over the AE.Conclusions: This study concluded that the rhizome extract of C. longa exhibited potent anthelmintic efficacy against the nematode parasite, Haemonchus spp.

<p class="NoParagraphStyle" align="center"><strong>ABSTRACT</strong><strong></strong></p><p class="NoParagraphStyle" align="center"><strong> </strong></p><p class="NoParagraphStyle">This study was aimed at determining potential of combination powder of garlic <em>Allium sativum</em>-shatterstone herb <em>Phyllanthus niruri</em> supplemented in feed against <em>S. agalactiae</em> infection in tilapia. Four concentrations of combination powder of <em>A. sativum</em>-<em>P. Niruri</em>; 20+5, 20+10, 20+15 and 20+20 ppt respectively were investigated for their ability to inhibit bacterial fish pathogen. Combination dose of 20+15 ppt produced the highest inhibitory zones in <em>in vitro</em> test. <em>In vivo</em> test consisted of three treatments with three replications, namely positive control (K+), negative control (K-) and the treatment of <em>A. sativum</em>-<em>P. niruri</em> suplemented in feed (BM).  The test perfomed on tilapia with weight of 10.33 ± 1.63 g and were reared at density of 10 ind/aquarium. The fish was fed for 14 days, then injected intraperitoneally with 0.1 mL <em>S. agalactiae</em> at concentration of 10<sup>5</sup> cfu/mL for positive control and BM groups. Survival, growth rate, feed response, hematological and water quality parameters were observed for 10 days. This study showed that the suplemented-feed-fish (BM) showed better growth rate, feed response, and survival (83.3%) than positive control (36.7%) at P&lt;0.05. Empat konsentrasi campuran tepung bawang putih-meniran yaitu 20+5 ppt, 20+10 ppt, 20+15 ppt dan 20+20 ppt masing-masing diuji kemampuannya dalam  menghambat bakteri patogen pada ikan. Campuran dosis 20+15 ppt menghasilkan zona hambat terbaik dalam uji <em>in vitro</em>. Uji <em>in vivo</em> terdiri atas tiga perlakuan dengan tiga ulangan yaitu kontrol positif, kontrol negatif, dan perlakuan pakan yang mengandung bawang putih-meniran (BM). Uji ini dilakukan pada ikan nila berbobot 10,33±1,63 g yang dipelihara di akuarium dengan kepadatan 10 ekor/akuarium. Ikan diberi pakan perlakuan selama 14 hari kemudian diinjeksi secara intraperitoneal dengan bakteri <em>S. agalactiae</em> sebanyak 0,1 mL dengan kepadatan 10<sup>5 </sup>cfu/mL pada perlakuan kontrol positif dan perlakuan BM. Parameter kelangsungan hidup, laju pertumbuhan, respons pakan, parameter hematologi, dan kualitas air diamati selama sepuluh hari. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemberian BM dalam pakan memberikan laju pertumbuhan, respons pakan, dan sintasan (83,3%) yang lebih baik daripada kontrol positif (36,7%) pada P&lt;0,05. ABSTRACT: In present study the phytochemical constituents such as total phenol, total flavonoid contents and antibacterial activity against four gram negative and two gram positive isolates Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter aerogens, Proteus vulgaris, Lactobacillus, S. aureus, Bacillus subtilis and antifungal activity against four fungal strains Penicillium, Aspergillus niger, T. mentagrophytes, Microsporum fulvum of petroleum ether, diethyl ether, chloroform and acetone extract of leaves and flowers of Lantana camara L were evaluated. Maximum zone of inhibition was recorded in the presence of free flavanoid fraction of the plant extract against Trichophyton mentagophytes and Microsporum fulvum which was the most susceptible fungus for all the extracts tested. The extract also compared favourably with streptomycin which serves as a positive control. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was recorded for all bacteria and fungi in which highest MIC was of B. subtilis and M. fulvum. The UV-Vis and FTIR spectroscopic analysis also revealed the presence of different active groups and bonds. L. camara contains phytochemical compounds with antibacterial & antifungal activities. Moreover, the chloroform & acetone leaf & flower extracts of L. camara are active against pathogenic microorganisms.
