Giving excessive workloads causes work stress both physically and psychologically and emotional reactions. The excess workload experienced by drivers and swampers at PT XYZ results in reduced attention at work, decreased work motivation, and decreased skill levels, thus affecting drivers and swampers productivity and the chance of a work accident is very high. This study aims to measure the Mental Workload of Job Driver and Swampers Fuel Tank Using the NASA-TLX Method. The NASA-TLX score obtained 93.8, driver 2  get 83.7, driver 3  91.3, swamper 1  91, swamper 2 89.5, and swamper 3 94.7. Elements of mental workload that are very influential are Mental Demand with a percentage of 22%, Effort 20%, Physical Demand 18%, Own Performance 15%, Frustation Level 15% and Temporal Demand 12%.

This chapter aims to know the mental workload level and its effects on middle and senior managers in manufacturing companies. The chapter aims to know the mental workload level related to gender, age range, civil status, number of children, years of experience, and worked hours per week. As method, the NASA-TLX method was implemented. This method measures mental workload based on six dimensions: mental demand, physical demand, temporal demand, effort, performance, and frustration level. Data was collected by applying an online questionnaire. Results indicated that some dimensions contributed to mental workload in the following decreasing order: mental demand, temporal demand, effort, performance, frustration level, and physical demand. Similarly, results from mental workload level varied from 55.73 to 64.10. Nevertheless, there was no clear relationship between the gender, age range, civil status, number of children, years of experience, worked hours per week, and mental workload level. Finally, employees manifested mental workload mainly due to stress, mental fatigue, and headache.

All human activities, whether light, medium, or heavy, must have or contain a workload. Basically, every human being has a varied workload capacity, thus it's not inconceivable that the workload experienced by one worker differs from that of another, because there are a variety of elements that influence the difference in workload capacity. Sales and processing teams are under a lot of pressure to meet credit disbursement targets, which puts them under a lot of mental strain. A worker will experience work stress if he is given an excessive workload. When it comes to work, the influence of stress will result in a decline in performance, efficiency, and productivity of the work in question. To address this issue, a study based on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) approach will be conducted to measure the mental strain of personnel in the Medan Balaikota consumer loan unit. NASA-TLX is a way for analyzing the mental workload of workers who must do a variety of tasks at work. Mental demand, physical demand, temporal demand, performance, effort, and frustration dimensions are among the six variables to be measured. Thirty workers of PT Bank XYZ Consumer Loan Unit Medan Balaikota Branch were surveyed. The NASA-TLX survey method is a quantitative descriptive methodology that was utilized to test in this study. According to the findings of the study, the NASA-TLX average score of PT Bank XYZ Consumer Loan Unit Medan Balaikota Branch employees obtained through research had a modest value. The result is a score of 77. Keywords: Mental Workload, NASA-TLX.

Nurses form an essential constituent of the health care system. Any kind of work-related stress when combined with daily life stress leads to determined physical and emotional outcome due to excess physical and mental demand on the human body and mind. During the fullment of their duties, nurses experience various types of work-related injuries and anxiety, which harmfully impacts their health and nursing quality. The health of nurses is a prime concern for any organization as they are the direct caregivers to the patients and their emotional and physical stability is needed for effective care for maintaining their standards in relation to patient safety. This study was planned with the objective to identify the health problem among staff nurses. The ndings of the study can be useful in creating awareness regarding occupational health problems among staff nurses. A descriptive design was used for the study. The sample consisting of 246 subjects were selected by probability simple random sampling. The tool used was demographic Performa and three-point rating scale to assess occupational health problems. The result was analysed by using descriptive statistics. Majority of the staff nurses 53.66% had mild level of health problems and 41.9% had moderate health problems and 4.5% had severe health problems. There is a signicant association between occupational health problem and selected demographic variables like gender, education qualication and working overtime The remaining variables like age (χ2=0.282), year of experience (χ2=0.226) had no signicant association with occupational health problems. The study has concluded that the majority of staff nurses are having mild level of occupational health problems and there are several factors that contribute to the health problems physical, psychological and social problems.

This study establishes how demanding healthcare work is experienced to be and whether nurses and physicians experience different levels of workload. A meta-analytic review was conducted of 87 studies that reported Task Load Index (TLX) scores for healthcare work. Of these studies, 37 were conducted in real-life settings and 50 in lab settings without real patients. In real-life settings, clinicians experienced a workload with a mean TLX of 49 (on a 0-100 scale). Divided onto staff groups, the mean TLX for nurses was 63, which was significantly higher than the mean of 40 for physicians. Among the six TLX subscales, the main contributors to workload were mental demand, temporal demand, and effort. They were higher than physical demand and frustration. The clinicians experienced their performance – the last subscale – as closer to poor than good in 38% of the studies conducted in real-life settings. The difference between nurses and physicians was consistent across all subscales, except mental demand. Finally, it is methodologically important that TLX scores appeared not to transfer directly from lab to real-life settings. To reduce the risk of errors and burnout, new healthcare procedures and technologies should be evaluated for their impact on workload.

Abstract. The aim of this study was to know the implications of the coach's communicative style during the performance of the activity on the workload perceived by young soccer players. Two teams from the cadet category participated in the study, with a total of 32 players (M = 15.19; SD = 0.39), and their two respective coaches. Data collection took place in two different workouts, with an interval of one week between each activity. The workload was measured using the NASA-TLX adapted to the Google Forms tool that the players answered after the activity. Regarding the analysis of the coach's communication, video and audio recording of the activity was used for subsequent analysis through an adaptation of CBAS. Although the coaches have two different communication styles, the results don’t show a significant difference between the two teams in perceived workload. However, the managerial communication style presents a trend towards greater mental demand, greater frustration and lower performance perceived.

Abstract Introduction We examined the impact of perceived workload and depressive symptoms on Rey-15 plus recognition (RMT) in ethnic minority participants with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Methods The sample consisted of 63 healthy comparison [HC: 38 with ethnic minority status (EM) & 25 non-ethnic minority Caucasian (NEM)] participants and 40 persons with TBI (18 EM; 22 NEM). The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale to measure depressive symptoms (HADS-D) and the NASA-Task Load Index (NASA TLX) to measure perceived workload. Results ANCOVAs revealed that NEM outperformed EM on the RMT, p = 0.000, ηp2 = 0.37. TBI survivors reported higher levels of HADS-D compared to HC participants, p = 0.018, ηp2 = 0.06. Additionally, the EM group reported higher levels of frustration on the RMT compared to NEMs, p = 0.033, ηp2 = 0.05. Interactions emerged for physical demand where NEM participant’s with TBI had higher ratings than EM participants with TBI. For HCs, the EM participants provided higher physical demand ratings than their NEM counterparts, p = 0.029, ηp2 = 0.05. Additionally, a significant relationship between HADS-D and RMT was observed in the healthy NEM participants (r = −0.558, p = 0.004) and NEM participants with TBI (r = −0.288, p = 0.080). Finally, significant relationships between HADS-D and mental demand, physical demand, temporal demand, frustration, and overall subjective workload were observed in healthy EM participants, r = 0.342–0.431, p < 0.05. Conclusion Consistent with previous research, TBI survivors reported higher levels of depressive symptoms, which were associated with RMT performances. Overall, our data suggest the relationship between perceived workload, depression, and performance is complex and that investigators should interpret performance validity scores in person with TBI, depression, and/or EM status with great care.

Abstract Objective Confrontation naming tests are used to examine an individual’s lexical retrieval. We examined the relationship of perceived workload and acculturation in three ethnic groups’ Cordoba Naming Test (CNT) performance. Methods The sample consisted of 32 Latinx, 11 Caucasians, and 10 Asian; all neurologically and psychologically healthy residents. All participants completed the CNT and subscales of the Abbreviated Multidimensional Acculturation Scale (AMAS) in English. AMAS was used to measure acculturation and the NASA-Task Load Index (NASA TLX) measured perceived workload. Results The CNT showed that the Caucasian group outperformed the Latinx group, p = 0.024, ηp2 = 0.14. However, the Latinx group reported better CNT performance compared to the Caucasian group, p = 0.023, ηp2 = 0.14. No differences were found between groups on the AMAS. Finally, we found a significant relationship between CNT and NASA-TLX subscales (i.e., performance, mental demand, effort, frustration, & overall perceived workload) in the Latinx group, r = −0.562 to −0.398, p < 0.05. Discussion Results showed the Latinx group demonstrated worse CNT performance compared to the Caucasian group. To our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate confrontation naming performance in an ethnically diverse sample. Furthermore, we found the Latinx group reported a higher perceived performance on the CNT compared to Caucasians. Our results indicated a relationship between CNT performance and perceived workload in our Latinx sample as opposed to the Caucasian and Asian groups. Future research is needed with a larger sample size; moreover, additional research should investigate interactions between perceived workload, acculturation, and other cultural variables (e.g., bilingualism) in the interpretation of test performance in diverse ethnic groups.

Screw placement in the correct angular trajectory is one of the most intricate tasks during spinal fusion surgery. Due to the crucial role of pedicle screw placement for the outcome of the operation, spinal navigation has been introduced into the clinical routine. Despite its positive effects on the precision and safety of the surgical procedure, local separation of the navigation information and the surgical site, combined with intricate visualizations, limit the benefits of the navigation systems. Instead of a tech-driven design, a focus on usability is required in new research approaches to enable advanced and effective visualizations. This work presents a new tool-mounted interface (TMI) for pedicle screw placement. By fixing a TMI onto the surgical instrument, physical de-coupling of the anatomical target and navigation information is resolved. A total of 18 surgeons participated in a usability study comparing the TMI to the state-of-the-art visualization on an external screen. With the usage of the TMI, significant improvements in system usability (Kruskal–Wallis test p < 0.05) were achieved. A significant reduction in mental demand and overall cognitive load, measured using a NASA-TLX (p < 0.05), were observed. Moreover, a general improvement in performance was shown by means of the surgical task time (one-way ANOVA p < 0.001).
