Abstract Video technology has the potential to provide older adults with socially and cognitively engaging activities for in-home participation. We are exploring use of OneClick.chat, a video technology platform, to present older adults with and without mild cognitive impairment opportunities for engagement. In collaboration with iN2L we have developed events that will facilitate conversations that do not rely on episodic memory, cover a range of topics, and represent different cultures and interests. We selected event topics that were positive, socially and cognitively engaging, and included a range of pictures based on our previous research. Events were carefully controlled for length of presentation, picture type, and readability. Discussion questions related to the events were designed to stimulate engaging conversations through open-ended questions and to not burden memory recall or enforce stereotypes. Our work highlights potential future avenues for researchers and home and community-based organizations to use technology to promote social engagement.

Food pictures in advertisements, on packages, and on social media often display food with a bite in it. We investigated the effect of pictures of food with a bite (vs. no bite) on product attitudes, purchase intentions, and willingness to pay. In two online experimental studies we tested this effect for both pictures without context, as well as pictures in an advertisement. We also investigated two theories that could lead to opposite effects: consumer contamination and embodied mental simulation. We found that a picture of food with a bite (vs. no bite) resulted in lower purchase intentions, and that this effect was mediated by disgust (i.e., consumer contamination). Furthermore, we found an interaction effect of picture type (i.e., bite vs. no bite) and context (i.e., no context vs. advertisement) on purchase intentions: the effect of picture type on purchase intentions was attenuated when the picture appeared in an advertisement (vs. when the picture is shown without context). We found similar effects on product attitudes and willingness to pay. Lastly, a picture of food with a bite (vs. no bite) had no effect on embodied mental simulation. Field practitioners are advised to take caution when using pictures of bitten food as this may lead to unfavorable consumer responses because of a feeling if disgust.

Abstract We investigated conceptual representations for translation word pairs in bilinguals who learned their languages in different cultural contexts. Mandarin–English bilinguals were presented with a word, and then a picture, and decided if they matched. Both behavioural and ERP data were collected. In one session, words were in English and in another they were the Mandarin translations. Critical pictures matched the prior word and were either biased to Chinese or Canadian culture. There was an interaction of test language and picture type in RT and errors in the behavioural data, and in five components in the ERP data, indicating that the task was easier when the culture depicted in the picture was congruent with the language of the preceding word. These findings provide evidence that the specific perceptual experiences that bilinguals encounter when learning words in each language have an impact on the semantic features that are activated by those words.

he learning implementation problems found in public elementary school 09 Kuala Terusan are the low activity and learning outcomes of students who reach standards in science learning in grade IV. For this reason, the picture and picture type cooperative model is applied. The objectives of this study were 1) to determine the effectiveness of the picture and picture cooperative model in increasing students' learning activeness in Science and 2) to determine the effectiveness of the picture and picture cooperative model in improving the learning outcomes of fourth grade students of SDN 009 Kuala Terusan. This type of research is classroom action research. The duration of this research was from October to November 2020. The subjects of this study were fourth grade students of the 2019/2020 school year 009 Kuala Terusan public elementary school. The instrument used was the observation sheet and student learning outcomes. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis technique. The results of this study are 1) The picture and picture type of cooperative learning model is effectively applied in learning science material ......... at SDN 009 Kuala Terusan to increase the active involvement of students in learning .; and 2) The picture and picture type of cooperative learning model is effectively applied in science learning material ......... at SDN 009 Kuala Terusan to improve student learning outcomes from the original number of students whose cognitive scores are above KKM are 18 people. (45%) to 37 people (92.5%).

SMAN 2 BauBau is one of the schools in BauBau City that is the object of research because the learning outcomes are still low, this is because only 62.5% of the tests that meet the KKM. The objectives of this study are: (1) To increase student learning activities in class XI IPS2 of SMAN 2 BauBau which are taught through the application of cooperative learning models of Picture and Picture types on flora and fauna material in Indonesia and the world. (2) To increase the teaching activities of teachers in class XI IPS2 SMAN 2 BauBau taught through the application of cooperative learning models Picture and Picture types on flora and fauna in Indonesia and the world Picture and Picture type on flora and fauna material in Indonesia and the world. Data about student learning activities and teacher teaching activities were obtained through observation sheets, while student geography learning outcomes data were obtained through learning outcomes tests, (cycles). The results showed: (1) Student activities with the application of the Contextual Approach learning model in cycle I amounted to 2.4 which included in the sufficient category, increased in cycle II to 3.7 which included in the category of good; (2) The teaching activities of the first cycle teachers mean the average score of the activities of the teachers is 2.8 which is included in the sufficient category and increased in the second cycle to 3.6 which is categorized as good; (3) There is an increase in the learning outcomes of class XI IPS-2 SMAN 2 BauBau after applying the Cooperative Learning model of the Picture and picture type. Where in the first cycle that is obtained 62.5% student mastery learning and in cycle II student learning completeness increased to 87.5%.SMAN 2 BauBau adalah salah satu sekolah di Kota BauBau yang menjadi objek peneliti karena hasil belajarnya masih rendah, hal ini dikarenakan hanya 62,5% hasil ulangan yang memenuhi KKM. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: (1) Untuk meningkatkan aktivitas belajar siswa di kelas XI IPS2 SMAN 2 BauBau yang diajar melalui penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Picture and Picture pada materi flora dan fauna di indonesia dan dunia.(2)Untuk meningkatkan aktivitas mengajar guru di kelas XI IPS2 SMAN 2 BauBau yang diajar melalui penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Picture and Picture pada materi flora dan fauna di indonesia dan dunia.(3)Untuk mengetahui peningkatan hasil belajar siswa di kelas XI IPS2 SMAN 2 BauBau yang diajar melalui penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Picture and Picture pada materi flora dan fauna di indonesia dan dunia. Data tentang aktivitas belajar siswa dan aktivitas mengajar guru diperoleh melalui lembaran observasi, sedangkan data hasil belajar geografi siswa diperoleh melalui tes hasil belajar, (siklus). Hasil penelitian menunjukan: (1) Aktivitas siswa dengan penerapan model pembelajaran Pendekatan Kontekstual pada siklus I sebesar 2,4  yang termasuk pada kategori cukup, meningkat pada siklus II menjadi 3,7  yang termasuk pada katergori baik; (2) Aktivitas mengajar guru siklus I skor rata-rata aktivitas guru adalah 2,8 yang termasuk kategori cukup dan meningkat pada siklus II menjadi 3,6 yang berkategori baik; (3) Ada peningkatan hasil belajar geografi kelas XI IPS-2 SMAN 2 BauBau setelah menerapkan model Pembelajaran Kooperatif tipe Picture and picture. Dimana pada siklus I yaitu diperoleh ketuntasan belajar siswa 62,5% dan pada siklus II ketuntasan belajar siswa meningkat menjadi 87,5%.

2013 Curriculum hasn’t been done as expected in MAN 3 Pesisir Selatan. Another problem are the mindset of the students about biology that a lot of theory and pictures are dificult to understand, low learning motivation, and the learning model applied by the dominant teacher lecture method. This study aims to determine the effect of the cooperative learning model picture and picture type on student’s learning competencies on Excreation System material of class XI MAN 3 Pesisir Selatan. This type of research is a quasi experimental design randomized control group posttest only design. The research population was all student in class XI MAN 3 Pesisir Selatan enrolled in the 2018/2019 year which amounts to two class. Sampling technique using saturation sampling, class XI MIA 1 as the experimental class and class XI MIA 2 as the control class. Knowledge instrument in the form of posttest, attitude and skill instrument in the form of observation sheet. The data analysis technique used is the t test which is first carried out a prerequisite test, namely the normality test and homoenity test. Based on the result of research on the competency of student knowledge gained value tcount > ttable (2,68>1,67), attitude competence tcount > ttable (3,27>1,67) and skill competence tcount > ttable (1,89 >1,67). This proves that the hypothesis is accepted. The conclusion was that the application of cooperative learning model picture and picture type had a positive effect on student’s learning competencies on Excretion System material class XI MAN 3 Pesisir Selatan

AbstractThis study examined the impact that metaphorical pictures and semantic transparency had on meaning recall of English idioms for L2 learners. Twenty-seven idioms of differing semantic transparency (low, mid, and high) were selected and two types of pictures were drawn for each idiom. One picture type was a literal only representation while the other was a literal+figurative representation. These idioms and picture conditions (no picture, literal only, and literal+figurative) were counterbalanced and presented to student participants (n=64) via a PowerPoint input treatment. The delayed posttests measured meaning recall of the idioms’ L1 paraphrased meaning. The data showed that in absolute terms, literal-figurative pictures promoted better retention of meaning at all levels of transparency, but this finding was most robust for high-transparency idioms. However, a number of pictures, especially those with metonymical elements, led to overspecification, which has wider implications for pictorial input in general.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh desain visual post Instagram dalam hal tipe gambar, tagar, jumlah likes, dan caption berupa informasi harga, terhadap tingkat atensi visual pemirsa, dan intensi pembelian. Keempat elemen tersebut dihipotesiskan akan mempengaruhi atensi visual pemirsa, dan pada akhirnya mempengaruhi intensi membeli. Metode desain eksperimen digunakan untuk menguji hipotesis dengan alat bantu eye tracker untuk mengukur atensi visual. Instagram dari sebuah perusahaan UKM yang menjual tas tangan (pouch) digunakan sebagai objek penelitian. Delapan stimulus berpasangan (gambar produk dan konsumen) yang merupakan dummy post Instagram dirancang berdasarkan hipotesis penelitian, dan satu pasang stimulus post Instagram yang ada saat ini digunakan sebagai kontrol. Empat puluh partisipan dipaparkan kesembilan stimulus menggunakan pendekatan within subject design. Dari hasil statistik deskriptif, ditemukan bahwa partisipan lebih menyukai tipe gambar produk, dan stimulus yang paling disukai yang menampilkan caption keterangan harga, hashtag serta jumlah likes yang banyak. Uji statistik inferensial menunjukkan adanya perbedaan tipe gambar (gambar produk dan gambar konsumen) dan jumlah likes mempengaruhi tingkat atensi visual pemirsa, serta tidak ada hubungan antara tingkat atensi terhadap tampilan Instagram dengan intensi membeli.  Abstract[Role Of Image Type, Hashtag, Number Of Likes And Pricing Information On Instagram Against Intensi Buying] This research is intended to investigate the influence of visual design of Instagram concerning picture type, hashtag, number of likes, and price information, on intention to buy. These elements are suggested to influence visual attention of the audience, and ultimately influence the intention to buy. Experiment design method is implemented to test the hypotheses using an eye tracker device to measure visual attention. An Instagram post from an SME offering pouch is used as a research object. Eight paired of dummy Instagram posts (the product picture and the consumer picture) are designed to test the research hypotheses, and a pair of existing Instagram post acts as a control stimulus. Forty participants are exposed to all of the stimuli using a within-subject design approach. Descriptive statistic analysis shows that participants like product picture more than consumer, and stimulus containing price information, hashtag, and many likes. Inferential statistic analysis shows that picture type and likes all influence visual attention and no significant relationship between visual attention and intention to buy.Keywords: Intention to buy; visual attention; statistic inferensia; desain eksperimen

It is widely assumed that the aesthetic appreciation of a picture depends, among others, on how well the picture’s composition is perceptually balanced, where “perceptual balance” is often defined analogous to mechanics. To what extent this metaphor holds for different picture types, however, is still open. Therefore, in this study, we examined the relationship between balance, liking, and some objective measures with pictures from an aesthetic sensitivity test. These stimuli could be divided into single-element, multiple-element, and dynamic-pattern pictures. The results show that “balance” is interpreted differently, depending on the stimulus type. Whereas “mechanical” balance was applied to assess single-element pictures, the balance of multiple-element and dynamic-pattern pictures was rated more in the sense of gravitational stability. Only for the multiple-element stimuli, there was a positive relation between balance/stability and liking. Together, our findings show that there are different types of balance, and that their relation with liking depends on the picture type.

Salah   satu   masalah   keamanan   pangan   yang   masih   memerlukan   pemecahan masalahnya yaitu penggunaan bahan tambahan pada bahan makanan untuk berbagai keperluan. Diantara beberapa Bahan Tambahan Makanan yang sangat sering digunakan salah satunya adalah  pewarna  makanan.Penelitian zat pewarna pada  sirup  dilakukan karena  mengingat  banyaknya  zat  pewarna  yang  digunakan  sebagai  bahan  tambahan pangan baik yang diizinkan maupun yang tidak diizinkan. Menurut Permenkes RI No.722/Mennkes/Per/IX/1988 tentang Bahan Tambahan  Makanan  bahwa tidak semua zat pewarna  yang digunakan  merupakan  zat pewarna  yang diizinkan. Penelitian  ini adalah penelitian  yang  bersifat deskriptif, yaitu untuk melihat gambaran jenis zat pewarna dan kadar   zat   pewarna  pada   minuman   sirup   yang   dijual di   pasar modern   kota makassar.Hasil  penelitian  menunjukkan  bahwa  dari  5  yang diuji  kualitatif positi mengandung   bahan    tambahan    pangan    yang    diizinkan Permenkes RI. No.722/Menkes/Per/IX/1988. Dan Hasil uji secara  kuantitatif  dari  3  sampel  yang  diuji kadar zat pewarnanya 2 diantaranya  tidak memenuhi syarat yaitu Sirup Kian Jaya 509 mg/L dan Sirup Oranges  Marjan 389 mg/L. Dari hasil  penelitian  yang didapat  maka dapat  disimpulkan  bahwa  5 sampel  sirup  telah  memenuhi  syarat  pada  uji kualitatif. Sedangkan dalam uji kuantitatif 3 sampel sirup yang telah diuji kadarnya 2 diantaranya tidak memenuhi syarat. Bagi konsumen sebaiknya tidak terlalu sering mengkomsumsi makanan dan minuman yang mengandung pewarna sintetis karena dapat berbahaya bagi kesehatan. One of the food safety problems that still requires solving the problem is the use of additional ingredients in food ingredients for various purposes. Among some of the Additional Materials Food that is very often used, one of which is food coloring. The research on coloring substances in syrup is done because  considering  the number  of coloring agents used as food additives both permitted and not permitted. According to RI Minister of Health Regulation No. 722 / Mennkes / Per / IX / 1988 concerning Food Additives that not all coloring agents used are permissible coloring agents. This research is research that isnature descriptive , i.e. for look picture type subst ance dye and grade substance dye   on drinks syrup sold in   the   modern   market   town makassar.  The  results  of the  study  showed  that  from  5  tested  qualitative  positives containing food additives which were allowed by Permenkes RI. No. 722 / Menkes / Per / IX / 1988. And the quantitative test results from 3 samples tested for the coloring agent 2 of them did not meet the requirements, namely Syrup Kian Jaya 509 mg / L and Oranges Syrup  Marjan  389  mg/l. From  the  results  research   obtained   then  could concluded that 5 samples syrup has been meet terms on testqualitative. While in test quantitative 3 samples syrup that has  been tested the  levels  are 2 of them not meet terms. For consumer should not too often consume food and beverages containing dye syntheticbecause could dangerous for healt.
