AbstractEpoxy nanocomposite coatings are an essential way to protect petroleum storage tanks from corrosion. For this purpose, the new nanocomposite epoxy coatings (P-M/epoxy composites) have been successfully designed. The P-M/epoxy composites are based on the metal vanadium oxy-phosphate M0.5VOPO4 (where M = Mg, Ni, and Zn). The function of P-M/epoxy composites as anti-corrosion coatings was explored using electrochemical and mechanical tests. Using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), it has been noticed that the pore resistance and polarization resistance of the P-M/epoxy composites remain higher as compared to the neat epoxy. The P-M/epoxy composites have the greatest impact on the cathodic dis-bonded area and water absorption. Besides, P-M/epoxy composites exhibit a very high order of mechanical properties. Further, Mg0.5VOPO4 has the greatest effect on the anti-corrosion properties of epoxy coating followed by Zn0.5VOPO4 and Ni0.5VOPO4. All these properties lead to developing effective anti-corrosion coatings. Thus, the net result from this research work is highly promising and provides a potential for future works on the anti-corrosion coating.

<p class="AMSmaintitle">Abstract</p><p class="Default">The aim of this research work was to codeposit nano-Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> particles into Zn-Ni alloy coatings in order to improve some surface ,properties, the influence of the concentration of Al2O3 is the principal object in order to improve the corrosion resistance of the deposit, which has been made by electroplating on steel substrates previously treated, have been studied by several characterization methods, as the X-ray diffraction, measurement of micro hardness and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), protection against corrosion properties studied in a solution of 3% NaCl in the potentiodynamic polarization measurements (Tafel), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to the potential of corrosion free. The parameters that characterize the corrosion behavior can be determined from the plots and Nyquist plots and chronopotentiometry. Trends of increasing the charge transfer resistance and the decrease of capacitance values. XRD and SEM results and identify any coatings Zn-Ni and Zn-Ni-Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> alloy composition have similar phase ( γ-phase structure) and the addition of Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> in the Zn-Ni matrix increases the microhardness, and we note the maximum hardness is obtained for 50 g/L Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>.</p><p class="Default"> </p>

Polymeric-based nanocomposite coatings were synthesized by reinforcing epoxy matrix with titanium nanotubes (TNTs) loaded with dodecylamine (DOC). The performance of the developed nanocomposite coatings was investigated in corrosive environments to evaluate their anti-corrosion properties. The SEM/TEM, TGA, and FTIR analysis confirm the loading of the DOC into the TNTs. The UV-Vis spectroscopic analysis confirms the self-release of the inhibitor (DOC) in response to the pH change. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopic (EIS) analysis indicates that the synthesized nanocomposite coatings demonstrate superior anticorrosion properties at pH 2 as compared to pH 5. The improved anticorrosion properties of nanocomposite coatings at pH 2 can be attributed to the more effective release of the DOC from the nanocontainers. The superior performance makes polymeric nanocomposite coatings suitable for many industrial applications.

Present research work emphasis on the fabrication and evaluation of the physico-mechanical performance of jute/glass fibre reinforced epoxy composites and their hybrids. Composite samples were fabricated by closed mold hand lay-up technique. Fibre/matrix interfacial adhesion of fractured specimens after mechanical tests was investigated using SEM (scanning electron microscope). Among J/Epoxy, G/Epoxy, J/G/Epoxy, J/G/Epoxy composites show the maximum Shore-D hardness value of 99 as compared to jute/epoxy and glass/epoxy of Shore-D hardness value of 96 and Hardness value of 98 Shore-D, respectively. Experimental studies have shown that there are superior Physico-mechanical properties of hybrid composites (jute/glass/epoxy).

Powder metallurgy (P/M) process has the advantage of better formability to fabricate complex shape products without machining and welding. And recently this P/M process has been applied to the production of aluminum alloys. The P/M aluminum alloys thus produced also have received considerable interest because of their fine and homogeneous structure. Many papers have been published on the mechanical properties of the aluminum alloys produced by P/M process while there have been few on their corrosion properties from the view point of electrochemistry. In this experiment, therefore, two kinds of 7075 aluminum alloys prepared by the conventional ingot metallurgy (I/M) process and P/M process were used, I/M material is commercially available. and their corrosion behavior were investigated through the electrochemical tests such as potentiodynamic polarization test, slow rate strain tensile (SSRT) test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurement under SSRT test in the corrosion solution and the deionized water.

The selection of appropriate surface pretreatments is one of the pending issues for the industrial application of cerium-based chemical conversion coatings (CeCC) as an alternative for toxic chromate conversion coating (CrCC). A two-step surface pretreatment based on commercial products has been successfully used here to obtain CeCC on AA2024-T3 and AA7075-T6. Specimens processed for 1 to 15 min in solutions containing CeCl3 and H2O2 have been studied by scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDX), glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy (GDOES), potentiodynamic linear polarization (LP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and neutral salt spray (NSS) tests. SEM-EDX showed that CeCC was firstly observed as deposits, followed by a general coverage of the surface with the formation of cracks where the coating was getting thicker. GDOES confirmed an increase of the CeCC thickness as the deposition proceed, the formation of CeCC over 7075 being faster than over 2024. There was a Ce-rich layer in both alloys and an aluminum oxide/hydroxide layer on 7075 between the upper Ce-rich layer and the aluminum matrix. According to LP and EIS, CeCC in all samples offered cathodic protection and comparable degradation in chloride-containing media. Finally, the NSS test corroborated the anti-corrosion properties of the CeCC obtained after the commercial pretreatments employed.

Corrosion prevention and infrared (IR) stealth are conflicting goals. While graphene nanosheets (GN) provide an excellent physical barrier against corrosive agent diffusion, thus lowering the permeability of anti-corrosion coatings, they have the side-effect of decreasing IR stealth. In this work, the anti-corrosion properties of 100-μm-thick composite epoxy coatings with various concentrations (0.01–1 wt.%) of GN fillers thermally reduced at different temperatures (300 °C, 700 °C, 1100 °C) are first compared. The performance was characterized by potentiodynamic polarization scanning, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, water contact angle and salt spray tests. The corrosion resistance for coatings was found to be optimum at a very low filler concentration (0.05 wt.%). The corrosion current density was 4.57 × 10−11 A/cm2 for GN reduced at 1100 °C, showing no degradation after 500 h of salt-spray testing: a significant improvement over the anti-corrosion behavior of epoxy coatings. Further, to suppress the high IR thermal signature of GN and epoxy, Al was added to the optimized composite at different concentrations. The increased IR emissivity due to GN was not only eliminated but was in fact reduced relative to the pure epoxy. These optimized coatings of Al-GN-epoxy not only exhibited greatly reduced IR emissivity but also showed no sign of corrosion after 500 h of salt spray test.

Extruded Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy samples with grains aligned parallel to the extrusion direction were subjected to high-pressure annealing. The effects of annealing pressure on the microstructure, hardness, and corrosion properties (evaluated using potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)) were investigated. Phase analysis showed the presence of MgZn2 and α-Al phases, the MgZn2 phase dissolved into the matrix, and its amount decreased with the increasing annealing pressure. The recrystallization was inhibited, and the grains were refined, leading to an increase in the Vickers hardness with increasing the annealing pressure. The corrosion resistance was improved after high-pressure treatment, and a stable passivation layer was observed. Meanwhile, the number of corrosion pits and the width of corrosion cracks decreased in the high-pressure annealed samples.

Our community has a widespread knowledge on the damage tolerance and durability of the composites, developed over the past few decades by various experimental and computational efforts. Several methods have been used to understand the damage behavior and henceforth predict the material states such as residual strength (damage tolerance) and life (durability) of these material systems. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy (BbDS) are such methods, which have been proven to identify the damage states in composites. Our previous work using BbDS method has proven to serve as precursor to identify the damage levels, indicating the beginning of end of life of the material. As a change in the material state variable is triggered by damage development, the rate of change of these states indicates the rate of damage interaction and can effectively predict impending failure. The Data-Driven Discovery of Models (D3M) [1] aims to develop model discovery systems, enabling users with domain knowledge but no data science background to create empirical models of real, complex processes. These D3M methods have been developed severely over the years in various applications and their implementation on real-time prediction for complex parameters such as material states in composites need to be trusted based on physics and domain knowledge. In this research work, we propose the use of data-driven methods combined with BbDS and progressive damage analysis to identify and hence predict material states in composites, subjected to fatigue loads.

Titanium-Nickel pre-alloyed powder was reinforced with Nano-Silica in 2%, 4% , 6% and 8 wt. % due to effectiveness of Nanoscale ceramic Reinforcement in improving the properties of Metals and Alloys. The compositions of the Pre-Alloyed powders and Nano Silica Approximately 50 nm in diameter and spherical in shape were weighed and mixed in Planetary Ball Mill followed by compaction at 50 MPa using a Uniaxial Compaction machine The green pellets obtained were sintered in Argon Environment for 5 hrs and allowed to furnace cool. The pellets were then sectioned through their cross-section for slices 3 mm thick followed by Cold-mounting and Soldering followed by cold mounting additionally. The Samples were analyzed via X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) for phase distribution as a function of variation in nano-Silica reinforcements and Microstructural analysis was performed via Optical Microscope. The effect of Volume percentage on the densification was determined via Archimedes principle and Micro-Vickers hardness was used for mechanical Evaluation. The Electrochemical Properties were evaluated using Potentio-Dynamic Polarization and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) in neutral salt solution (3.5% NaCl). The results indicated increasing dissolution of the TiNi phase into intermetallic Titanium-rich and Ni-rich phases in the matrix and hardening due to the Nano-Silica effect of Grain Boundary impingement and phase dissolution of Equiatomic phase and mixed behavior in Corrosion properties as determined by the electrochemical techniques whereas densification decreased due to poor plasticity of Nano-Silica and hinderance in diffusion during the sintering process.
