The new era creates new opportunities and poses a number of challenges for education to adapt to the emerging prospects of digital transformation of educational activities. The article provides a brief analysis of domestic and foreign works on the problems of digitalization in education. It is shown that, along with the benefits offered by the digital space, there are many problems of its use in educational activities. The solution of these problems is primarily associated with the training of teachers to use new opportunities for the organization and implementation of distance learning forms, the development of their digital competencies. At the same time, it has been shown that in both foreign and domestic universities, students in their majority prefer contact forms of classes and want a live dialogue with teachers, despite their rather high digital literacy. Therefore, the emerging digital didactics is very important to determine the ratio of traditional and distance learning will be able to provide a comfortable learning environment and a high level of training of future specialists. These and other questions can be answered by digital didactics, which has not yet been developed by scientists and educational practitioners.

The article shows that the introduction of distance learning courses, trainings, webinars, workshops, round tables, etc. at a more systematic level are the effective ways of forming digital literacy. Possibilities of using distance learning in higher education institutions are considered. The article emphasizes that digitization affects not only the content of education but also its organization. These processes have mixed implications for positioning of universities and teaching work. Digitalization of education opens up new perspectives for any professional field, as it enables to expand the context of activities, organize international cooperation, create virtual groups and communities, forums and chats, provide access to materials of various formats (texts, multimedia, television, etc.), expand communication with native speakers through various Internet systems, etc. The advent of distance education has led to a whole new understanding of the learning process and has expanded its capabilities. The introduction of distance learning in Ukraine is currently in its active stage. At the beginning of the XXI century The Concept of Development of Distance Education in Ukraine and the Regulation on Distance Learning were approved. Today, the role and importance of digital educational resources and technologies in the educational sector is increasing; a great deal of efforts are being made to harmonize the structure of national HEIs with European requirements and to improve the quality of distance learning, which should lead to an increase in the level of training of specialists. Distance education is an important component of modern specialist training in many countries of the world, based on the use of both the best traditional teaching methods and new DER, as well as on the principles of self-study, intended for the general public irrespective of material security, place of residence, health status. A distinctive feature of distance education is interactive learning. Students have the opportunity not to attend classes, but to study at convenient time and in a convenient place. The main goal of distance learning is to ensure further development of the education system towards providing it with features and characteristics of open education (accessibility, mass, personal orientation, real continuityetc). Thus, distance education is a 21st century specialist training system, characterized by high professionalism that strives for collaboration, self-affirmation and a high level of communication with colleagues. It is characterized by a great intensification of socially significant motives: business, cognitive, cooperation, self-realization and development, self-affirmation and communication through the use of open and computer-based learning and modern means of communication.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the national education agenda at all levels of education. New Teaching and Learning (T&L) online norms have been executed except for specific academic programs and subjects only since 18 March 2020 when the Movement Control Order (MCO) was administered and continued to this day. To guarantee students’ continuity of education without online T&L dropout, online face-to-face (Synchronous) or not face-to-face (Asynchronous) is now become the primary approach and method platform with many virtual education applications. Therefore, this research examined students’ readiness to follow online teaching and learning and analysed the impact of online T&L on the national education agenda. This study involved 133 students of Diploma in Fisheries, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, for the first semester of 2020-21. Data were obtained through a questionnaire using Google Form and presented to students by sharing links to their WhatsApp group in the final week of study. The questionnaire was adapted from several instruments related to various aspects of online T&L during the COVID-19 pandemic. The outcomes revealed that most students were among Gen-Z with digital literacy background. Thus, it was assisting them having a high level of readiness to face online T&L. In terms of the availability of device infrastructure, internet access, e-Learning, and computers, most (80%) have mastered it. Only (20%) have low proficiency due to limited experience using computers and gadgets due to family constraints and their literacy levels. The research conclusion recommends a consecutive enhancement in curriculum structure flexibility, delivery, evaluation; internet accessibility and digital gap, and self-motivation of students entering the era of the self-regulated learner. Transformation demands the strategic cooperation of various parties in educational institutions, government agencies, the private sector, NGOs, and people’s leaders in the interest of the country’s advancing education relevant to the era of global technology-oriented education and digital infrastructure.   Received: 4 March 2021 / Accepted: 6 May 2021 / Published: 8 July 2021

The authors decided to investigate the impact of the lockdown period and the resulting limitations in informatics education, especially programming, in out-of-school electronics courses using traditional and distance learning modes in primary school COVID-19 pandemic settings. Two extracurricular courses were held successively; the first electronics course was performed in a traditional out-of-school learning mode using Arduino kits, while the other was held using the TinkerCad circuits virtual environment in distance learning mode. A structured questionnaire was administered to students to map their knowledge of programming. The questionnaire consists of three emotional dimensions: enjoyment, satisfaction and motivation. The fourth dimension was dedicated to the students’ programming outcomes. Three emotional dimensions were addressed to primary school students, while the fourth dimension was addressed to the tutors’ observations toward the students’ programming outcomes. The obtained results revealed that learning modes have no significant impact on students perceiving the programming issues. However, three emotional dimensions revealed a significant difference in the students’ enjoyment, satisfaction and motivation in favor of the traditional learning mode. Our findings are of particular interest in light of possible crisis-prompted distance education in the future but can also serve to inform government institutions and policymakers seeking to develop effective concepts for successful distance learning.

The article presents the results of conceptualization and research of one of the partial types of general digital literacy - social-network digital literacy, incorporated into the corpus of digital competencies of youth. A structural model of the social-network digital literacy is proposed. The task of the field stage of the research, in addition to testing the model, was to describe the specific content of the competencies and subcompetencies included in the model with identifying the degree of their priority for the respondents. In this study, among the entire body of sociological methods, preference was given to qualitative research. The study used such qualitative methods as in-depth interviews, focus groups, analysis of creative essays on the topic of digital communications. Representatives of the studentship of Tomsk universities were selected as respondents. Recruiting was based on the availability of participants, a high level of reflexivity and high network competencies. A standardized sociological survey (N = 201 respondents; in the format of an on-line survey) of student audiences of universities in Tomsk in order to identify the competencies of social network digital literacy supplemented the qualitative research. The study showed the formation among generation Z of a corpus of representations with normative coerciveness and presupposing mastery of a whole set of specific digital competencies. Such a complex of knowledge, skills and normative ethical attitudes serves as a tool for effective communication and socialization of young people in the virtual space of networks. The importance and priority for the respondents of information and media, self-presentation, affiliate, linguistic competences and security competence, incorporated by the authors into the structure of the social-network literacy model, are shown.
