Boyolali Regency is among districts in Indonesia, which still has poverty issues and receives direct cash assistance from the government. Yet, villages of the regency including Sruni at Musuk sub-district has been known as one of the main producers of fresh cow milk for the Central Java region. There has been no attempt to process fresh milk into food products of higher economic value at Sruni Village. Meanwhile, results of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis at Musuk showed that the region has the potential to be developed for dairy industry. Therefore, through socialization program, community empowerment should be initiated by socializing benefits of fermenting cattle milk into yogurt as a probiotic food product. The socialization had been carried out for 12 housewives in the village of Sruni through two small-class seminars in April 2019. Evaluation was conducted by comparing the number of correct answers from participants’ answers recorded on questionnaire given prior and after each of both seminars. Percentage of improved answers were presented in histograms and then analyzed. As results, the first seminar produced in average 47.4% improved answers, while the second seminar could generate in average 27.3% improved answers. The results showed that in general, the conducted socialization program was quite successful in improving understanding of Sruni villagers on the benefits of fermenting cattle milk into yogurt as a probiotic food product.

Bawomataluo which is located in South Nias, North Sumatra, has unique cultural and natural tourism. The area is referred to as “Bukit Matahari” (Hill of the Sun) as it is the area where tourists can enjoy the sunrise and sunset. However, the hegemonic practice performed by the government through its policies and the counter-hegemonic practice performed by the local people as the owner of the tourist destination have caused the area to be less developed. The problem of the study is how the counter-hegemonic practice is performed to develop the Bawomataluo tourist destination. This study is intended to understand and describe the form of the counter-hegemonic practice so it can widen the concepts of the related studies. The study used the qualitative method with the perspective of cultural studies. The theory of hegemony, the theory of power/knowledge, and the theory of social practice were used to analyze the data. The result of the study showed that the counter-hegemonic practice performed by the Bawomataluo people included the counter-hegemony towards the government’s policy, the counter-hegemony towards change and functional change of cultural heritage, and the counter-hegemony towards the tourism-related activities. They are all the accumulation of the local people’s disappointment with the government’s policy (hegemonic practice) which has been performed so far. As a result, the development of the tourist destination and infrastructure has not achieved the target yet. This present study offers a strategic political policy so the development of the tourist destination in Bawomataluo in particular and in Indonesia in general can be avoided from the hegemonic practice and counter-hegemonic practice. To this end, the tourist destination should be sustainably developed in order to improve the local people’s economy and increase the government’s income. The development should be the community-based one as well.

<p>ABSTRACT<br />The high Number of Indonesian migrant workers (IMWs)workingin abroad, in facts, is not supported by adequate government protections. Due to BNP2TKI Crisis Center data of 2016, there are at least 27 thousand casesfaced by IMWs working in many countries all over the world. According to the research results conducted Wulan (2011), problems faced by IMWs in the destination countries, 80 percent of those come from villages. A village actually has strategic roles to becomes a foundation of safe migrations since villages arethe first exit doorsforpotential IMWs. The government negligence in protecting IMWs eventually results in village constructive fights to protect their people.

Abstract: Semarang City is a city located in Central Java and also a metropolitan city in Indonesia, in the fifth place (Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan, Bandung and Semarang City) in which there are several historical areas, one of which is the Tugu Muda area (Indriyatni, 2013). This area is often visited by local, national and international communities. The Tugu Muda area is one of the historic areas in Semarang with the presence of a monument to the struggle of the Semarang youth (Sukawi, 2009). With the passage of time, the Tugu Muda area, the Semarang city government built a high rise building with a modern concept, which is currently named the Pandanara Building, with the existence of this building visually reducing the image and value of the area, namely as a historic area. From this phenomenon, further research is needed to determine the effect of the building of the Pandanaran Building on the character of the Tugu Muda area of Semarang, which is essentially a historic area. The method used is a qualitative method by studying the literature on the theory of building facades and visual characters, which is then carried out in the analysis stages to achieve the research objectives.
