Intellectual Fostering of the More Gifted among Socially Disadvantaged Adolescents

A new reality in the southern areas of Tel-Aviv was created by negative social mobility. As a result, the variance in pupils' qualifications within each class, at high schools, was enlarged. One implication was that teachers' ability to advance pupils, who were able to reach a high level of knowledge, was weakened. The project for fostering the more gifted among socially disadvantaged adolescents has four main components: (1) Mastery of Mathematics and English at the basic level required by the university; (2) developing excellence in selected areas, as a means to enhance self-esteem and become acquainted with advanced subject matters; (3) peer group, to support social matriculation; and (4) developing capacity for critical thinking. Identification of the gifted is made by La. test, teacher's evaluations and reported self motivation. The main goal of the project is to encourage pupils' willingness and capacity to continue in academically oriented high schools and universities. Aside from dilemmas about creating and maintaining such project, preliminary results of evaluation research are reported.

The aim of the research. To conduct a cluster analysis of the assessment profile of students who participated in work of medical organisations providing care to COVID-19 patients to develop recommendations for its correction. Material and methods. The study was carried out at the premises of Prof. V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky Krasnoyarsk State Medical University (KrasSMU). The study group was constituted by 66 students in 3-6 years of study of the Medical and the Paediatric faculties of the University who took part in activities of medical organisations providing healthcare to patients with COVID-19. The items were presented in the form of binary questions and ranking scales. The analysis of qualitative attributes was carried out in the form of relative values with calculation of the standard error of the proportion. For ranking and nonparametric quantitative characteristics, the mode, median, centiles (Me [P25; P75]) and other nonparametric criteria for comparative statistics and communication statistics were used. For segmentation of respondents according to some criteria, depending on the answers, the method “two-step cluster analysis” and the method of “decision tree” were used. Results. The results of the study indicate a high motivational component related to practical medical activity of medical students during the difficult epidemiological situation since 94.1% of the respondents declared the readiness to support practical healthcare. Almost half of the surveyed 47.0% of students included in cluster 2, in contrast to students of clusters 1 and 3, are characterised by a high opinion on the degree of their contribution to the struggle against the COVID-19 epidemic and a high level of knowledge and skills, rating themselves at about 9.0 points out of 10 possible. In addition, the results of the study indicate an association between the level of students’ self-esteem in regard to their contribution to the fight against COVID-19 with the level of the students’ self-esteem of knowledge and skills and the duration of work in a medical organisation. Conclusion. The analysis performed has made it possible to formulate guidelines for support of medical students’ professional attitudes within the framework of practice-oriented education, including distance learning.

The article assesses the quality of educational services of the University on the example of fgbou VO “KubSTU”. The concepts of quality of education and educational services are considered, which determine the main components of quality of education, consisting of four parameters: the object of receiving services, the subject of providing services, the process of providing services, the degree of customer satisfaction. Based on these components, the analysis of the quality of education “Kuban state University”, in which was investigated the following categories: number of students enrolled in the University, average grade of students enrolled in College on a budget, the number of educational programs, quality workforce, research and innovation activities, the level of satisfaction of employers with graduates. Based on the analysis of the main indicators characterizing the quality of educational services, it is concluded that quality management in “KubSTU” is effective and provides a high level of training of graduates, and to achieve modern quality of educational services of the University it is necessary to improve the quality system of education at all levels of management of higher education institutions.

This study examined the relationship between peers popularity and self-esteem within the attitude towards sexual behaviour among young pregnant out of wedlock. A total of 130 teenagers pregnant out of wedlock aged between 14 years and 19 years from 4 welfare institutions in the states of Selangor, Perak, Johor and Kelantan participated in this research. Respondents were selected using stratified random sampling technique. This study utilises the three questionnaires of the Inventory Peer Pressure, Popularity, and Conformity Scale (Santor, Messervey & Kusumakar, 2000), the Rosenberg Self- Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965) and Brief Sexual Attitudes Scale (Hendrick & Reich, 2006). All instruments used had yielded a Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient value ranging from 0.82 to 0.90. Findings revealed that the level of peers popularity is high, level of self esteem also high and respondents indicated a high level of attitude sexual behavior. Results of Pearson’s correlation analysis revealed that there were significant relationships between peers popularity and attitudes toward sexual behavior (r= .801, p<.05) and a significant correlation between self esteem and attitude sexual behavior (r = .708, p <.05). Bootstrapping analysis revealed the role of self esteem as a mediator variables of peers popularity and self esteem with sexual attitude behavior. From the theoretical implications, this study describes the role of self esteem as a mechanism that effect the popularity of peer sexual behavior and attitude. In conclusion, peers popularity and self esteem related to sexual attitude and behavior. The study showed that risk factors such as the acceptance by the peer group have a significant direct effect on sexual behavior At the same time, this study also suggests several alternatives in order to curb sexual misconduct among the teenagers today.

This study aimed to find the relationship between leadership skills and self-esteem of the Jordanian universities presidents. The sample of the study included all Jordanian universities presidents for the academic year (2011/2012) counting 30 presidents .The researcher used the analytical descriptive approach to theoretical literature related to the two variables of the study, and developed two questionnaires to collect data: one to detect the degree of implementation of leadership skills, and the other to determine the selfesteem degree. Findings revealed a high level in the implementation of these categories of leadership skills and high level in availability of self-esteem indicators. There was no statistically significant difference due to specialty and type of the university. Also, high positive correlation (p. 0.01) between the leadership skills and self-esteem was found. The indicators of self-esteem may be used in choosing institutional leaders and developing strategies, tests to refine those skills, and enhancing the self concept.

The article aims at defining the essence of the "innovatively active university" concept as well as the key characteristics and structural components of such a university; substantiating the management framework of educational innovations taking place at a university and providing a flexible combination of teaching, research and entrepreneurship. The article considers the regulatory support present in Ukraine as for the functioning of the education system, including all its levels and subsystems, the activities of various educational institutions, public or private, irrespective of their attendance modes. The analysis of definitions of the "innovative university" term suggested by various scientists has been carried out thus allowing the author to consider this concept within the functional approach. It has been determined that the given terms are similar in their meaning, but still the difference between them is rather significant. For a deeper understanding of the concept, decomposition of the abovementioned definitions into the main components has been made according to the following points: the essential component of the concept; activity areas of the innovative university; the mission of an innovative university. The "innovatively active university" has been defined as an entrepreneurial organization that possesses the resource readiness to promote accelerated social and economic development through intensive transfer of knowledge and technology generated at the university due to partnership relations established with stakeholders (labor market actors, government and NGOs). Models of the innovative university and their distinctive features have been suggested. The main characteristics of the innovative university that contribute to the development of new systems and management processes have been outlined. The ways of managing innovative universities have been considered and the management framework of educational innovations at a university has been offered. Prospects for further research in this area lie in the following: analyzing the competitive strength of universities around the world to determine the internal and external features of an innovatively active university, helping it to achieve and maintain a high level of competitiveness and attractiveness.

<p>Self-concept is weak disturbed in adolescent. Self-concept is not formed from hereditas factor, self-consept is formed and developed through experience and relationship with people. Adolescent with positive self-consept have low level of juvenile deliquency. Meanwhile, adolescent with negative self-concept high level of juvenile deliquency. The purpose of this study was to identify factors that influence the self-concept in adolescent. This study was used an observasional with cross sectional design. Samples was obtained by simple stratified random sampling which consisted of 162 people. Analysis was used kendal-tau test and logistic regression test. The results of kendal-tau test showed that there was a significan influence of parenting care (0.000), peer group (p=0.000), physical performance role (p=0.000), self-esteem role (p=0.000) on self-concept of adolescent. The results of logistic regression test showed that variabel with the most influencing to self concept in adolescent was peer group. In conclusion, there was a significant effect of parenting care, peer group, physical performance role and self-esteem role of self-concept adolescent. The factors that most affect self-concept of adolescent is peer group.</p>

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of participation in a 1-week summer camp on thehopelessness and self-esteem of the university students attending Sport Sciences Faculty. Participants were 36university students assigned to experiment group using a random procedure. Coopersmith Self-esteem and Beck Hopelessness Scales were completed at the beginning and end of the summer camp by designed the university. The obtained data were analysed in the SPSS 18.0 program and the significance level was taken as 0.05. The descriptive statistics, independent simple t test, paired simple t test and Pearson correlation were used for analyse the data in the study. According to the results of the research, no significant difference was observed in the comparison of the hopelessness and self-esteem levels between pre and post-test. In addition, there was a significant difference in the hopelessness level of male and female students but any significant difference was not observed in terms of self-esteem. There was a significant relationship between hopelessness and self-esteem pre and post-test. These result shows that a 1-week summer camp cannot change the hopelessness or self-esteem level. However, as the self-esteem rises, the rate of despair decreases whereas as the despair rises, the selfesteem decreases.

The reviewers emphasize the high relevance and high level of research, their theoretical and practical significance. The textbook and the anthology will help the students increase their legal awareness, expand their horizons.


This article is devoted to the features and benefits of a professionally-oriented approach to teaching a foreign language in non-linguistic high schools on the example of engineering education. According to the latest standards of higher education (FSES 3++), students must have sufficient knowledge of a foreign language for business communication in oral and written forms. However, teachers of high schools face a number of difficulties in the formation of a foreign language communicative competence offuture engineers, namely: a constant decrease of a number offoreign language practical classes in a curriculum of a high school and a weak motivation of students. In our opinion, a professionally-oriented approach to teaching helps to solve these problems and make the process of learning a foreign language more intensive, focused and effective. That is, now, the development of strategies, methodological models and tools for teaching English, with a focus on professional communication, is an actual task for an English teacher at the University. This article presents some methods and techniques that stimulate students of engineering faculty to professionally oriented communication in English. Much attention is paid to both active teaching methods used during practical English classes, and individual work, which allows students to get more useful information and skills within the practical classes given, and also allows students to develop the need for individual knowledge acquisition and comprehension, thereby providing the increased interest of communication in a foreign language and increasing motivation to learn a foreign language.

Abstract The University of Malaya Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur had acquired a intraoperative MRI (iMRI) brain suite via a public private initiative in September 2015. The MRI brain suite has a SIEMENS 1.5T system with NORAS coil system and NORAS head clamps in a two room solution. We would like to retrospectively review the cranial paediatric neuro-oncology cases that had surgery in this facility from September 2015 till December 2019. We would like to discuss our experience with regard to the clear benefits and the challenges in using such technology to aid in the surgery. The challenges include the physical setting up the paediatric case preoperatively, the preparation and performing the intraoperative scan, the interpretation of intraoperative images and making a decision and the utilisation of the new MRI data set to assist in the navigation to locate the residue safely. Also discuss the utility of the intraoperative images in the decision of subsequent adjuvant management. The use of iMRI also has other technical challenges such as ensuring the perimeter around the patient is free of ferromagnetic material, the process of transfer of the patient to the scanner and as a consequence increased duration of the surgery. CONCLUSION: Many elements in the use of iMRI has a learning curve and it improves with exposure and experience. In some areas only a high level of vigilance and SOP (Standard operating procedure) is required to minimize mishaps. Currently, the iMRI gives the best means of determining extent of resection before concluding the surgery.
