The centuries which we designate politically by the names of the dominant powers of the age successively as the Persian, Greek, and Roman periods of Jewish history constitute as a whole an epoch in the religious history of Judaism. In these centuries, past the middle of which the Christian era falls, Judaism brought to complete development its characteristic institutions, the school and the synagogue, in which it possessed, not only a unique instrument for the education and edification of all classes of the people in religion and morality, but the centre of its religious life, and to no small extent also of its intellectual and social life. Through the study of the Scriptures and the discussions of generations of scholars it defined its religious conceptions, its moral principles, its forms of worship, and its distinctive type of piety, as well as the rules of law and observance which became authoritative for all succeeding time. In the light of subsequent history the great achievement of these centuries was the creation of a normative type of Judaism and its establishment in undisputed supremacy throughout the wide Jewish world.

ABSTRACTThis study aims to explore the idea of anthropocentric fiqh as a new paradigm in the development of more equitable Islamic law for all people in the world. Nowadays, the study of fiqh growing in the community only centered on the binary decision between halal and haram which seemed to ignore the aspects of daily problem faced by the ummah. This study uses the anthropocentric paradigm as a criticism to the theocentric paradigm which focuses all problems of the ummah only to the God. The anthropocentric paradigm is a perspective on fiqh products which not only contain debates about the God's absolutes, but also concern on the human interests in obtaining justice and the benefits of every product of the ulama ijtihad. This study shows that anthropocentric fiqh is a model of the Islamic law development which is not oriented to the sacred text or the monopoly of interpretation of classical scholars. Anthropocentric Fiqh does not want to erase the legal provisions of the Shari'a as well as the results of the classical ulama's thoughts, but to strengthen the legal foundation which is in accordance to the needs of the ummah. So, anthropocentric fiqh is very compatible with the people situation who have their own problems related to the tradition or culture which are considered against the Islamic law. Keywords: Anthropocentric Fiqh, Tajdid, Islamic Law.

The understanding of Islamic law can not be separated from the interpretation sourced from the Quran, Sunnah and Ijtihad, which later evolved into a flexible and dynamic source of Islamic law following the demands of the times. Although it has flexible and dynamic properties but the interpretation must still maintain the basic principles that remain will never change. This is very important because misunderstand the intent expressed in the Quran and Sunnah will affect the error of understanding the Islamic law itself, therefore it is important to realize that the effort of understanding is not separated from The true interpretation of the will of Allah and the Prophet Muhammad that is contained in the Quran and Sunnah. This paper seeks to introduce the foundation of the pursuits that come from the Quran, Sunnah and Ijtihad, which is done using the method of normative assessment of various references discussing the source of Islamic law. Therefore, it is expected to find the meeting point between the understanding of the Qur'an, Sunnah and Ijtihad with the effort to interpret the source of Islamic law aimed at realizing the benefit of the people.
