This paper explores the nature of the different income sources, consumption expenditure and income elasticity of different group of items and the relationship among them as exhibited in the study areas. Both households sources of income and consumption expenditure shows similar trend in the two districts. From the two models used: total consumption expenditure and family size elasticities of consumption expenditure and income and family size elasticities of consumption expenditure, the former provide accurate prediction of Engel laws of consumption for classification consumption goods into inferior, normal and luxuries goods. It was found that increase in family size has an adverse effect in consumption of most luxuries and normal goods. It was noted that normal and inferior goods become luxury goods as family size increases. It implies that increase in the family size affects standard of living and quality of life adversely. Hence, appropriate strategies should be put in place to curb the negative impacts of population explosion to hasten the nation move towards prosperity.

Abstract PURPOSE To describe decreased growth velocity with long term use of BRAFV600e and MEK inhibition in a patient with anaplastic ganglioglioma. RESULTS 4-year-old patient was found to have a 6 x 4.6 x 5 cm mass in the hypothalamus. Pathology consistent with anaplastic ganglioglioma and chromosomal microarray revealed a BRAFV600e mutation. Patient started on dabrafenib and trametinib and tumor decreased 85% after 3 months. She is stable without significant toxicities 39 months on therapy, and is now 8 years old. Patient had been growing at the 25% for weight and 12% for height but is now 65% for weight and 0.5% for height. It is difficult to tease out the relationship between the tumor, the location of the tumor, and the BRAF and MEK inhibitors and their effect on growth. Discussions with the family and endocrinology are ongoing but being <1% for height will lead to decrease in quality of life. CONCLUSIONS Further follow-up study is needed to determine if this is truly a long-term toxicity, or if this may just be a direct result of the location of the tumor. Would supplementation with growth hormone in this patient lead to losing control of a high grade tumor, or would it simply replace a hormone that is not produced?

Data were obtained through focus group discussion (FGD) in each high school with a total of 12 FGDs. The number of informants involved in the FGD were 60 students aged 15-18 years old. The FGD results show that most of theadolescents shared their personal problems to peers than to parents. The topics presented by adolescents to parents included events at school (lessons, teachers, friends), television shows, ideals, sports, and politics. Some adolescents who had close relationships with parents did not hesitate to share their personal problems and interests of the opposite sex to their parents. Adolescents who had closeness to parents tend to be more open and were able to control their emotions. The findings of this study are expected to provide inputto the family as well as to improve the quality of communication between adolescents and parents.

The aim of this study is to investigate the longitudinal influence of self-esteem on romantic and coparental relationship quality. The data were drawn from the German Family Panel, pairfam. Parents ( n couples = 2,364) were assessed three times over 4 years. The results indicated that romantic and coparental quality decreased over time, while self-esteem remained stable. The self-esteem of both parents predicted initial romantic and coparental quality. Additionally, mothers’ self-esteem reduced the decline in romantic quality. Finally, romantic quality mediated the relationship between parents’ self-esteem and coparental quality. These results suggest that self-esteem might be a resource for the parental couple and even for the family unit, as romantic and coparental quality are key elements for the well-being of both parent and child.

Family environment appears to be an important determinant of friendship quality. Despite this apparent link, few studies have explored how family environment relates to friendship, especially among college students. The present study examined the relationship between family environment and best friendships, by administering the Family Environment Scale (FES) and the Acquaintance Description Form—Revised (ADF-F2) to 408 college students. Family environment was a better predictor of friendship quality for female college students than for male college students. For the women, a total of 13% of the FES and ADF-F2 correlations were significant at the p < .01 level. The best predictors of friendship quality for the women were the FES active recreational and intellectual—cultural dimensions. Gender differences were also evident in students' perceptions of their families' environments and their views of the quality of their best friendships. Implications of the present study for college adjustment and retention are discussed.

The appearance of the television supposed a revolution in the form of spending the free time, however nowadays to is far from its original interest and aims. At this time its seduction power determines many of the actions that all we develop in our daily life. Far from to be worried about the quality of the products that they are offering us, we find ourselves pending of what is offered and not of how is offered. These circumstances are reflected, mainly, in the relationships that we establish between the members of our groups of equal. The family is one of them and perhaps it is the most affected by lack of quality in the television. From here we want to make an attention call about the relationship between the television, his quality and the familiar relationships.

Background: Despite much attention in the clinical literature, research on alexithymia in the treatment setting has only recently gained traction. While several reports indicate limited benefit from therapy amongst patients with high alexithymia, this seems to be less so in the context of group therapy. This study considers a specific aspect of the group therapy process - family re-enactment - infacilitating improvement in overall quality of life for patients with high levels of alexithymia.Subjects and methods: Family re-enactment was examined as a potential mediator of the relationship between alexithymia and change in quality of life among 50 patients who completed treatment in an intensive, integrative group therapy programme. Patients completed three self-report measures: Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 (baseline), Quality of Life Inventory (baseline, post-therapy), and Therapeutic Factors Inventory-Short Form (week 8). Regression with mediation analysis was employed using the change scorefor the QOLI as the dependent variable, alexithymia scores as the independent variable, and the family re-enactment score as the mediator; baseline quality of life was included in the model as a control variable. Results: Family re-enactment emerged as a significant mediator of the relationship between alexithymia and treatment outcome, implicating it as a contributing mechanism of change for alexithymic patients who participate in group therapy. Conclusion: Patients with higher levels of alexithymia (in particular, difficulty identifying and describing feelings) were more likely to positively endorse aspects of family re-enactment during group therapy, which in turn were significantly associated with greater improvement in patients’ overall quality of life.

This study examined the relationship between social support and depression for 70 patients with chronic back pain. We also explored whether the family environments of these patients related to depression and whether the patients' depression predicted outcome subsequent to involvement in a functional restoration program. The patients completed a battery of psychological questionnaires to assess depression, social support, and family environment. Outcome of a rehabilitation program was measured in terms of physical gains, vocational gains, and progress made toward program goals. Analysis indicated that the 25 depressed and 23 nondepressed patients differed as to perceived social support and quality of family environment; however, no association was found between depression and rehabilitation outcome. Implications for family interventions are discussed.
