Map semìotiсs formed at the junction of cartography and semiotics, linguistic science, which investigates the properties ofcharacters and iconic systems as language structures. The importance of the consideration of its provisions for the newmethods and different way of spatial analysis applications and in the used to modern techniques and methods of spatial analysisand determination of the features of the state and development of material objects, processes and phenomena and their changesin time, is conditioned by the widespread use in different areas of public activity of the object language of cartography, therequirements for which are constantly increasing. In particular, this applies to the field of science, where the concept of "field"defines the transition from "discrete to continual" in which the map semiotics provisions of cartographic modeling are essential.Examples of maps of the "fields" of density of the manifestation (spreading) of natural, social and man-made phenomenadeveloped in different directions of scientific and practical implementation, consider the essence of the application of thenormalized structure of the semiotic sides of maps content, as a reference of requirements, to justify the methodology of suchresearch, including for institutions of the Higher Education System of Ukraine (HEIs).The work explores the possibility of using the concept of "field" in atlas mapping modeling. On the basis of this concept, thedensity (thickness) of the placement (spatial organization) of the structural units Taras Shevchenko National University of Kievwithin the borders of Kiev is justified. Its mapping, in the form of developments of the interactive atlas of the university, locallevel, educational - managerial type, because of the dispersed territorial structure and thematic content of its main sections iscarried out for the first time.

Background: A number of books, articles and checklists have been published on Lesotho’s flora. The species presented here have been recorded for South Africa but have not previously been recorded for Lesotho. Objectives: As part of a study aimed at updating biodiversity records of the southern parts of Lesotho (Qacha’s Nek and Quthing districts), with the main focus of compiling a checklist for the Sehlabethebe National Park, this report presents plant species that have until now not been recorded for the Lesotho flora.Method: Several field trips were undertaken between 2004 and 2009. Plant identification was done based on observation and photographic records. After the compilation of the checklist, it became clear that two of the species observed had not been previously recorded for Lesotho. A follow-up trip was carried out in February 2016, during which plant specimens of the presumed new records were collected and deposited at the National University of Lesotho Herbarium (ROML) [and the University of Johannesburg Herbarium (JRAU)]. Plant identification was confirmed by experts in the family Apocynaceae. Results: Two species not previously recorded for Lesotho, namely Ceropegia africana subsp. barklyi and Duvalia caespitosa subsp. caespitosa, were found during the exploration of the southern parts of Lesotho which included the Sehlabathebe National Park. Conclusions: The fact that two species have been recorded in Lesotho for the first time clearly indicates that documentation of the flora of Lesotho needs to be updated. This work is therefore regarded as complementary to previous publications on the Lesotho flora.

The philosophical basis of this research is the author’s perception of the state as a holistic social phenomenon in its systemic relationships. Considering the dimensional component of the state’s category, which is its territory, as one of mandatory sign of the state, the author considers the administrative-territorial structure as an external expression of the territorial organization of power. Substantiating the relevance of research, the author emphasizes that it takes place in real time during the election process and a short post-election period on the basis of the new administrative-territorial structure, which in itself proves the relevance of this work. In the absence of such scientific works to reflect the current realization of reform of the territorial organization of power, the author determines the purpose of the research as the need to obtain holistic and systematized initial information regarding reformed administrative-territorial structure and local government of Khmelnytskyi region. Reforming administrative-territorial structure of the region is considered in close connection with the administrative-territorial reform in Ukraine as a whole. The research is based on the norms of the Constitution and laws of Ukraine, acts of the Verkhovna Rada, the Cabinet of Ministers, and the Central Election Commission of Ukraine. Such data are analytically generalized: created and liquidated regions; formed territorial communities with the determined administrative centres and the disbanded territorial communities; the affiliation of the disbanded territorial communities to the formed territorial communities with the determination of the districts and cities, to which the disbanded communities according to the old administrative system belonged; number of regional councils at all levels in 2020 and number and status of councils elected in 2020; number of deputies elected in 2020 to regional councils at all levels; composition of city, town and village mayors elected for the first time, re-elected, number of men and women elected to these positions. The article is illustrated by the administrative map of Khmelnytskyi region according to the new administrative-territorial structure and seven tables that benefit better perception of its content.

Between August 1994 and September 1996, 28 glycopeptide-resistant enterococci (GRE) were isolated from 8 infected patients and 11 intestinal carriers hospitalized at the University Hospital of Geneva. Identification to the species was made by both phenotypic (API 20 STREP and Rapid ID 32 STREP systems, and Vitek Gram Positive Identification Card) and genotypic methods using a multiplex PCR assay developed also for the determination of the genotype of glycopeptide resistance (vanA, vanB, vanC1, andvanC2-C3 genes). Fifteen isolates were identified asEnterococcus faecium, 8 as E. gallinarum, 4 asE. faecalis, and 1 as E. hirae. All of the phenotypic identification methods failed to differentiate some isolates of E. gallinarum from E. faecium, or vice versa. Both vanA (n = 18) andvanB (n = 4) glycopeptide resistance genotypes were found. For the first time, the vanBdeterminant was found in two isolates of E. gallinarum. Two patients were colonized by two different species containing thevanA gene and one by two different species containing thevanB gene. All vanA isolates were highly resistant to both vancomycin and teicoplanin except for three isolates which were susceptible to teicoplanin. Molecular typing by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis showed identical or similar patterns among E. faecium isolates with thevanA gene in five patients for whom the epidemiological link could not be always elucidated. This study emphasizes the necessity of utilizing both phenotypic and genotypic methods to characterize GRE.

In the history of botany, Adam Zalužanský (d. 1613), a Bohemian physician, apothecary, botanist and professor at the University of Prague, is a little-known personality. Linnaeus's first biographers, for example, only knew Zalužanský from hearsay and suspected he was a native of Poland. This ignorance still pervades botanical history. Zalužanský is mentioned only peripherally or not at all. As late as the nineteenth century, a researcher would be unaware that Zalužanský’s main work Methodi herbariae libri tres actually existed in two editions from two different publishers (1592, Prague; 1604, Frankfurt). This paper introduces the life and work of Zalužanský. Special attention is paid to the chapter “De sexu plantarum” of Zalužanský’s Methodus, in which, more than one hundred years before the well-known De sexu plantarum epistola of R. J. Camerarius, the sexuality of plants is suggested. Additionally, for the first time, an English translation of Zalužanský’s chapter on plant sexuality is provided.

Scholars interested in the Christian Apocrypha (CA) typically appeal to CA collections when in need of primary sources. But many of these collections limit themselves to material believed to have been written within the first to fourth centuries CE. As a result a large amount of non-canonical Christian texts important for the study of ancient and medieval Christianity have been neglected. The More Christian Apocrypha Project will address this neglect by providing a collection of new editions (some for the first time) of these texts for English readers. The project is inspired by the More Old Testament Pseudepigrapha Project headed by Richard Bauckham and Jim Davila from the University of Edinburgh. Like the MOTP, the MCAP is envisioned as a supplement to an earlier collection of texts—in this case J. K. Elliott’s The Apocryphal New Testament (Oxford 1991), the most recent English-language CA collection (but now almost two decades old). The texts to be included are either absent in Elliott or require significant revision. Many of the texts have scarcely been examined in over a century and are in dire need of new examination. One of the goals of the project is to spotlight the abilities and achievements of English (i.e., British and North American) scholars of the CA, so that English readers have access to material that has achieved some exposure in French, German, and Italian collections.

At present, the problem of establishing disability is a point at issue in Russia. Despite the fact that medical criteria for disability are being developed very actively, high-quality methods for assessing social hallmarks are still lacking. Since disability is a phenomenon inherent in any society, each state forms a social and economic policy for people with disabilities in accordance with its level of development, priorities and opportunities. We have proposed a three-stage model, which includes a system for the consistent solution of the main tasks aimed at studying the causes and consequences of the problems encountered today in the social protection of citizens with health problems. The article shows why the existing approaches to the determination of disability and rehabilitation programs do not correspond to the current state of Russian society and why a decrease in the rate of persons recognized as disabled for the first time does not indicate an improvement in the health of the population. The authors proposed a number of measures with a view to correcting the situation according to the results of the study.
