Technological development has affected the global financial industry. The use of digital currency is increasingly gaining a place among the world’s population, so much so that there are 2486 types of digital currency on record. Scholars in Islamic finance as well as Fatwa institutions all over the world have delivered their religious decree concerning the digital currency; hence, most discussions about the use of the decree was only directed at Bitcoin as a medium of payment although some digital currencies have other functions, such as being utility and security tokens. Therefore, the decree concerning other digital currencies cannot apply the decree issued for Bitcoin only because each digital currency has a different conceptual framework. Hence, this study, which applied the qualitative approach and a descriptive research design, intended to analyse the classification of digital currencies according to their function and characteristics. The findings show that digital currency is classified into coins, currency, tokens, payment tokens, utility tokens and security or asset tokens. Coins function as a medium of payment and store of value that was developed using its own blockchain. Currency is a medium of exchange and can be exchanged with any form of money, including the crediting or debiting of an account. Tokens represent services, financial instruments or infrastructure that is developed using the blockchain technology of other digital currencies. Tokens are divided into three types according to their function, namely payment tokens, utility tokens and security or asset tokens. The classification of digital currencies provides a guideline for the public who wish to carry out transactions using digital currencies. It is important to ensure that transactions carried out in accordance with the syarak will help alleviate cases of fraud related to investment and sale of digital currencies.

Blockchain technology has been a phenomenal discovery since its use on Bitcoin, a crypto currency created by Satoshi Nakamoto. Featuring decentralization, it allows Bitcoin to escape the interference of third parties and governments. Departing from Keynesian Theory, this study used a mixed quantitative and qualitative approach. The econometric quantitative approach uses the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) modeling to predict the impact of Bitcoin investment on Indonesia's transaction of capital. A qualitative approach is used to analyze the LOFT effects of Bitcoin on Indonesia's economic resilience. Unlike previous studies, this study attempts to provide an explanation from the standpoint of national resilience, especially in the field of economic resilience. VECM analysis found that Bitcoin had a significant positive effect on Indonesia's transaction of capital in both the short and long terms Even though the magnitude of the influence of bitcoin is relatively small, it needs to watch out for macro performance through capital transactions. Qualitative data indicate that there is a change of Bitcoin function in Indonesia, from a payment method, into an instrument of investment. The finding explains that Bitcoin has the potential to weaken the resilience of the Indonesian economy through a reduction in the balance of payments, while Blockchain can be the main foundation of the financial industry revolution in Indonesia.

This paper seeks to analyze the issues of the Islamic financial system and its challenges in Malaysia. This research adopts a qualitative approach based on data collected from articles, books, and online sources. A thematic approach has been utilized for data analysis. This study finds that Islamic banks impose both taʿwīḍ (compensation) and gharāmah (penalty) if the customer procrastinates or delays the payment of installments to the banks. That could lead to ribā (interest) in the contract. Therefore, the study suggests that the Islamic banks need to form a tabarruʿ (donation) fund. In addition, the study reveals that the Islamic banks are trending towards debt-based financing, which contradicts the maqāṣid al-sharīʿah. To fulfill the objective of the Sharīʿah, Islamic banks should apply more profit-sharing-based financing products. Another challenge in Islamic capital markets is baiʿ al-dayn (sale of debt) in Sukuk (Islamic bond), leading to ribā. Thus, the research proposes improving the transaction with a concept that does not lead to controversy. In family takaful, there are Sharīʿah issues related to the nominee and distribution of surplus. The study suggests that the nominee should work as an executor. Moreover, takaful companies can receive a portion of surplus based only on the muḍārabah model. Finally, this research identifies challenges in Islamic finance about human capital, misconceptions of Islamic finance, standardization, and harmonization, and proposes solutions accordingly. The research will assist the Islamic financial industry in finding ways to overcome the current issues and challenges.
