Ligawasan Marsh, the largest river basin in Mindanao is home of common fishes such as dalag, pupuyo, hito, tilapia and gourami. Fish parasites pose a great threat to freshwater fishes to public health and economy of an area. This study aims to examine the Prevalence of Parasites in Freshwater Fishes in the Southern Part of Ligawasan Marsh; Endoparasites in the representative species; Mean intensity and abundance infection of the Endoparaites. The study utilized necropsy, dissection and microscopy method to examine Endoparasites. Trematodes Clinostomum sp, suspected Camallanus sp., a Neocamallanus sp. and a member of Order Spirurida, all nematodes were recovered. The study yielded that Fish parasites in Channa striata Anabas testudineus had prevalence in Kabuntalan and Datu Piang. Nine Acanthocephalan recovered in Oreochromis niloticus had also prevalence rate. Suspected trematode cysts and eggs were also recovered in Trichopodus trichopterus and Clarias macrocephalus. Thus, it is concluded that there is prevalence of nematodes and trematodes species in C. striata, A. testudineus, O. niloticus, C. macrocephalus and T. trichopterus The Camallanus sp and Neocamallanus sp, both common aquarium parasites are first found in the Southern part of Ligawasan Marsh.

Study on chemical content of swamp fishes from Merauke has been conducted to obtain nutritional status  of these fishes. Sampling was conducted  twice (August and November 2015) in Merauke. There were six dominant fish species, namely striped snakehead (Channa striata), nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), tade gray mullet (Liza tade), philippine catfish (Clarias batrachus), barramundi (Lates calcarifer), and climbing perch (Anabas testudineus). Result on proximate analysis showed that the fishes had moisture content of 75.73±0.25%-81.45±0.04%, ash 0.94±0.01%-1.26±0.21%, protein 17.11±0.09%-18.92±0.05%, and lipid 0.59±0.19%-3.80±0.63%. The dominant essential amino acid of 6 swamp fishes from Merauke was lysine followed by leucine. Meanwhile the dominant non-essential amino acid was glutamic acid (32.26+0.61 mg/g), followed by aspartic acid. Calcium (Ca) was the dominant macro mineral for all fishes studied, being the highest was in nile tilapia (328.76±8.14 mg/100 g). Micro mineral was dominated by the presence of Selenium (Se) which the highest was in nile tilapia (0.084±0.005 mg/100g). These fishes were also rich in albumin, being the highest was stripe snakehead (138.59±1.68 mg/g). The average of total fatty acid showed that the fishes had saturated fatty acid (SFA) content of 46.30±0.27%, monosaturated fatty acid (MUFA) 9.20±1.6%  and polyunsaturate fatty acid (PUFA) 34.49±0.44% of total fatty acid. From the result, it can be concluded that fish harvested from swamp of Merauke and surrounding area had a good nutritional value.

The diversity of freshwater fishes which inhabit in the river of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta is not yet well documented. Complete documentation is needed as starting point and continuous research on the fish diversity in DIY. Boyong-Code River flows across the DIY, and it upstream is located on the hillside of Merapi volcano. The Code River upstream is called Boyong River. The research was aimed to acquire data about the diversity of fish fauna along the Boyong-Code River in the DIY. Further, the research purpose is to know which species are rare, potential for aquaculture, and introductive. Samples are taken along the Boyong-Code River starting from upstream to downstream. Samples were collected using Purposive Random Sampling methods with fishnets. Sampling area generally divided into three location i.e., upstream, middle-stream and downstream. Species diversity of fish in the Boyong-Code River is consisted of 24 species, with 5 introductive species. There are eleven native fish species which are potential for cultivation (aquaculture), i.e.: Barbodes binotatus, Mystacoleucus obtusirostris, Rasbora lateristriata, Rasbora argyrotaenia, Barbonymus balleroides, Osteochilus vittatus, Hampala macrolepidota, Anabas testudineus, Channa striata, Clarias leiacanthus and Clarias batrachus. The Boyong-Code River is a decent habitat for fishes. Many introduced fishes starting to invade the Boyong-Code River intentionally or unintentionally by human

The present study was aimed to investigate the occurrence of parasitic and bacterial diseases in some freshwater fish in NongBo reservoir, Maha Sarakham Province. The sampling was randomly collect from three sites by gillnets, bag nets and cast nets from the local fisherman during October 2015 to September 2016. A total of eight freshwater fish species were identified namely Oreochromis niloticus, Hampala dispar, Pristolepis fasciata, Trichopodus pectoralis, Anabas testudineus, Oxyeleotris marmorata, Channa striata and Clarias batrachus. The parasitic diseases found on the sampled fish specied were external parasites such as Trichodina sp., Dactylogyrus sp. and Digenea gen.sp. The bacterial diseases identified were Aeromonas hydrophila, Acinetobacter baumannii, Plesiomonas shigelloides, Serratia odorifera and Staphylococcus epidermis. The dominant species of bacterium was Aeromonas hydrophila. This study revealed that the natural fish stock could be risk from the fish pathogens both parasites and bacteria. Keywords: Reservoir, external parasite, fish pathogens.

An experiment was conducted to compare production and economic performance of Thai Climbing Perch (Anabas testudineus) and Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) under three management systems. The nursed juveniles of Thai Climbing Perch (6.22 ± 0.15g) and Tilapia (22.52 ± 0.73g) were stocked at 50 Thai Climbing Perch per 1m3 cage and 50 Tilapia per 80m2 open pond (Caged Perch); 50 Tilapia per 1m3 cage and 50 Thai Climbing Perch per 80 m2 open pond (Caged Tilapia); and both 50 Thai Climbing Perch and 50 Tilapia per 80m2 pond (Mixed culture) as three treatments with three replicates for each. Pelleted feed (35% crude protein) was given twice daily (8.0 h and 16.0 h) at a rate of 10% body weight of Thai Climbing Perch for first month and 5% body weight of Thai Climbing Perch for rest of the culture period (90 days) to cages for the integrated cage-pond culture and to open ponds for the mixed culture. Among the measured water quality parameters transparency (cm), alkalinity (mg l-1), nitrite-nitrogen (mg l-1), and chlorophyll-a (μg l-1) were significantly different among the treatments. A total of 43 genera of phytoplankton and 16 genera of zooplankton were identified from the pond water. The mean abundance of total macro-benthic organisms was not significantly different (P>0.05). The mean survival rate of Thai Climbing Perch was high, ranging from 86.67% to 98.67%. Gross yield of Thai Climbing Perch was the highest in the Caged Perch. Survival of Tilapia was also high, ranging from 94.00% to 96.67%. The combined FCRs were 0.75, 0.77 and 0.85 in the Caged Perch, Mixed culture and Caged Tilapia systems, respectively. Economic analysis revealed that a significantly higher (P<0.05) cost-benefit ratio was obtained in the Caged Perch treatment. Therefore, it is concluded that the integrated cage-pond culture system with the high-valued Thai Climbing Perch in cages and low-valued Tilapia in open ponds may be a better option for rural pond aquaculture considering the production and economic benefit.
