The article analyses the cognitive mechanisms of interpretation of the literary text viewed in the context of discourse interaction. As the article shows, being the elements of discourse, the cognitive structures determine the procedures of interpretation of the literary text. Viewed from the cognitive aspect, such interpretation consists in constituting new cognitive images in the reader’s mind on the basis of various discourse markers (scientific terms, syntactic patterns, etc.). The article demonstrates on the material of the English language the role of cognitive scripts, belonging to the scientific worldview, in arranging the plot of the literary text. The phenomenon of interpretation finds its manifestation in filling in the slots of the cognitive script in the process of reading the text. Considering the semantic potential of scientific discourse markers, the author reveals the influence of the scientific worldview on the literary world picture. The analysis of text fragments enables the author to conclude that the study of discourse interaction can prove useful in text analysis as it may help revealing the specificity of an author’s idiostyle and a reader’s interpretation of the text.

This article studies expressive syntax as a type of stylistic devices and illustrates its use in publicistic style economic oral and written media reports. The relevance of the research is that syntactic expressive means have not been thoroughly studied and analyzed in economic mass media. The work aims to identify the techniques that apply syntactic expressive means to evoke emotiveness in economic media reports. This article also addresses the recurrence of usage of expressive syntax in written and oral speech involving economic discourse. Using the method of text analysis on the bases of theoretical linguistic statements evaluating functional style, media stylistics, and stylistic devices in the English language, we determined the diverse usage of expressive syntax in both videocasting and written articles. From analyzed syntactic expressive means, we identified the frequency and common usage of such syntactic expressive means as rhetorical question and simple repetition in oral and written reports. The sample analysis indicated that a paragraph in any economic report might restrain more than one occurrence of expressive syntax; these carry a manipulative function through psychological phenomena represented via syntactic expressive means.

The article is devoted to the connotative reading of proper names (PN) in a literary text. Undoubtedly, among the issues of poetic onomastics it is one of the most complicated and interesting questions. It should be noted that at the present time onomastics itself appears as a rather new direction of a text analysis,it develops along with stylistics, poetics and linguistics. For the analysis of connotative onyms the article presents quite a full generalization of the following issue: whether proper names have or do not have a lexical meaning. The attention is paid to underlining the volumetric informative field in PN, in the structure of which connotation takes a considerable role. The introduction of a special term «connotonym» is convincingly motivated. The article alazies connotative potential of PN in detail and gives its common characteristics. It is underlined that all sorts of onyms have connotation, though in a literary text anthroponyms have a special significance, so a particular attention in the article is given to the connotative filling of anthroponym meanings. It is noted that proper names are always subjectively coloured, they express author’s attitude. Besides, they appear in the text in different forms, realize author’s ulterior sententiae, and assist in describing main characters and their relationship. Theoretical propositions of the article are illustrated by the example of the PNconnotative content analysis: Shaghanae from S.A. Yesenin’s famous cycle «Persian Motifs» and Tanyusha from his poem «Khorosha byla Tanyusha…». The article shows contextual reading of a connotonym and potentialities of the PN connotative reading in a poetic text.

This study followed two objectives: it primarily investigated the types of discourse markers (DMs) used in thespoken language of Iranian advanced EFL learners, and then explored the possible impact of gender on theparticipants’ use of DMs. To this end, 40 male and female EFL learners selected from an English language instituteparticipated in this study. The data were gathered through class observations. The researchers used Fraser’staxonomy of DMs and Fung’s category of interpersonal DMs as the theoretical framework of the study. To analyzethe data descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Results of the frequency test revealed that “and” was themost commonly used elaborative DM, whereas “but” was the most frequent contrastive DM. “Because” and “by theway” were respectively the only reason and topic-related DMs used by the participants, while “sure” was the mostfrequent interpersonal DM. In addition, results of the chi-square test revealed that learners significantly employedinterpersonal DMs more than the other sub-classes of DMs. Concerning the role of gender in the use of DMs, resultsdemonstrated that females significantly used more DMs compared with the males.

Statement of the problem. The problem of discourse construction with the emphasis on linguistic interactions as tools for solving communicative tasks is in the mainstream of modern linguistics. It involves elaborating methodological concepts that reveal the nature and principles of cognitive management in the discourse space built to reach a communicative goal through creating communicative solidarity. Since discourse construction processes are motivated and shaped primarily by value concepts it is logical to model them in terms of axiological perspectivization. The purpose of the article is to substantiate and exemplify the role of axiological perspectivization as a cognitive operation aimed at winning the addressee’s empathy by activating value concepts that are relevant both culturally and personally. The methodology of the research bases on findings in the spheres of axiology, cognitive linguistics, discourse analysis, pragmatics, strategic communication. The interdisciplinary approach to the study of axiological perspectivization is motivated by the complex nature of the processes involved in discourse construction. Research results. Within the framework of discourse construction, the notions of axiological perspective and axiological perspectivization have been elaborated. The role of these notions as methodological tools for shaping linguistic interactions in view of the communicative goal set by the sender of the message has been substantiated. The axiological perspectivization is modelled as the process of creating an image that activates culture-based value concepts and involves the addressee in the activities planned by the addresser. The contribution of cognitive mechanisms (foregrounding, modalization, positivization, reframing) to the formation and realization of the axiological perspective has been exemplified Conclusions. This study presents a research into the problem of axiological foundations and support systems of discourse construction. Increasingly, the use of value concepts as bulding blocks of axiological perspectivization is a critical factor for positive feedback and, therefore, effective communication. The study widens the range of methodological tools for discourse construction by elaborating the notions of axiological perspective and axiological perspectivization and specifying cognitive mechanisms involved in producing a value-charged effect on the addressee. The process of axiological perspectivization is constituted by cognitive scripts of foregrounding, modalization, positivization and reframing that are represented by functionally appropriate language means including axiologemes, i.e. linguistic signs that incode key values of the society and cultural groups within the society.

The aim of the research is to analyze English language scientific articles that have been published in the scientific journal entitled Annals PAAAE from 2009 to 2018 by using tools of text mining and text analysis, measuring how the frequency of key terms has changed, and to conclude the probable change of research focus of authors based on it. The subjects of the research are 393 English language articles that have been issued in the volumes of Annals PAAAE (Polish title is Roczniki Naukowe SERiA) from 2009 to 2018 (from Vol. 11 to Vol. 20), which are ready to download in pdf format on the website of the publishing house. Text mining and text analysis were conducted using own self-adapted routines of samples written in the R language programme. At the hierarchic cluster analysis, the Ward D method was used, and the association of frequency of terms was measured using Pearson’s correlation. It was found that the weight of research concerning the context of the product-production-market has increased, but there was low usage of the term “competitiveness”. What was of key significance was that in the case of clustering articles by author nationality, the role of the origin of the author has decreased as a determinant factor, which could suggest the uniformity of terminology as well as similarity of research topics and the researcher’s interests, which can initialize cooperation and common research. The growth of the number of articles elaborated on by international teams is also a projection of this tendency.

The fiction politics of contemporaneity reflects diversified patterns of language forms and their func- tions. This has brought to life experimental (postmodernist) writing the key principles of intertextuality, fragmentation, destruction, play. Postmodernist aesthetics caused a blurring of traditional genre canons that led to contamination of syncretic genre compounds through a grotesque transformation of traditional genre models and created an „estrangement? effect. The phenomenon of ludic absurd is viewed in three as- pects: 1) linguo-philosophical; 2) cognitive; 3) poetic. The present study focuses on the analysis of ludic absurd; the role of graphic, phonetic, morphemic, word-forming, syntactical, semantic mechanisms, based on the intentional deviation of language norm, play on words; cognitive mechanisms, generated by ad-hoc way of thinking. The conducted linguopoetic analysis of American postmodern short stories suggests that ludic absurd as a stylistic device of postmodern poetics manifests itself at all language levels (lexical, syn- tactic, semasiological, and textual) and is realized via the semantic asymmetry of lexical units, using illog- ical, but grammatically correct syntactic constructions, syntactic mismatch of sentences and whole text fragments. Prospects for further studies consist in clarifying the pragmatic role of ludic absurd in the postmodern literary text; expanding the taxonomy of lexico-semantic, stylistic, and syntactic and paragraphemic means of ludic absurd.

The article examines the protagonist’s verbalized  inner  speech  in  the   literary   text of the novel “The Remains of the Day” as a way of literary discourse organization by English novelist Kazuo Ishiguro. The  relevance of the study is explained by the interest in   the analysis of the inner speech of characters in a literary text, which differs from the natural inner speech of an individual in the ways of  linguistic  expression,  the  specifics   in the structure of the narrative. It is shown that the study of the inner speech of a character   of literary discourse using such parameters of its measurement as structural-compositional, semantic-conceptual, communicative, allows us to identify the features of the functional role of this type of speech. The novelty of the research lies in the substantiation of how the character's inner speech (introspection), being a significant unit of composition, correlates with prospection and retrospection of the text, acting as the main form of narration. The article elicits four basic concepts that organize the content of the character's inner speech. The authors of the article offer a close analysis of the rheme-theme correlation of the title of the novel and the main text as the basis of the author’s literary discourse. Particular attention is paid to the modality of the character's inner speech from the point of view of the pragmatic orientation of this type of speech towards the addressee-reader and discourse markers that influence the process of discourse interpretation.
