Abstract As a literary work, short stories have a useful value for the reader. The positive values ​​contained in a short story can be used as an alternative media to develop student character. The objectives of this study were (1) to describe the advantages of short stories from the aspect of the theme, (2) the use of language, (3) background, and (4) moral messages. This research use desciptive qualitative approach. The method used is the method of content analysis (content analysis). The data in this study are the sentences in the short story Anak Sweep Jalan. The instrument used in this study was the classification table. The result of this research is the exposure to the advantages of short stories which is the reason this short story was chosen as an implementation of student character development.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh gambaran tentang (a) perubahan unsur-unsur cerpen, (b) karakter para tokoh dalam cerpen, dan (c) nilai-nilai humanis dalam cerpen sebagai alternatif bahan pembelajaran apresiasi sastra. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis konten dengan pendekatan psikologi sastra. Tahapan penelitian dilakukan dengan studi dokumentasi, yaitu diawali dengan mempelajari teori, lalu mengumpulkan cerpen-cer pen yang monu mental dari ma jalah Hori son, kemudian menganalisisnya, melakukan uji coba, dan menyimpulkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perkembangan unsur-unsur cerpen: ditemukan berbagai karakter dalam tokoh cerita serta ditemukan juga nilai-nilai luhur dalam cerpen yang dapat diaplikasikan dalam pembelajaran di kelas. Cerpen-cerpen tersebut dapat dijadikan bahan pembelajaran sastra yang menyenangkan bagi siswa dan berguna bagi kehidupan sehari-hari masyarakat.Abstract:This study is aimed at obtaining the description of (a) the changes in the elements of short stories, (b)  a picture of  the characters in short story, and (c)  a picture of humanist values in short story as an alternative learning materials of literary appreciation. This study uses content analysis to psychology literature approach. The stage of the  research is conducted by studying the related theory, collecting short stories from the Horison magazine, and analyzing, conducting trials and error,  and making conclusion. The results of research  shows that there is  the develop- ment of the elements of the short story: finding a variety of  characters and great value in the story that can be applied to the teaching-learning process in the classroom as a fun learning materials for students of literature and useful for everyday social life.

Abstract— Literary work, directly or indirectly, is the realization and imagination of the author as a reflection and the reality that the author gets from society. Literary works can be found through the life forms of society. Thus, literary works cannot be separated from the elements around them. Literary work along its journey always implicate man, humanity, life, and life. In essence, literary works are born for the surrounding community. Literary works are the products of authors who live in the social world. That way, short story literary works in the form of fairy tales are the author's imaginative world that is always related to social life. There are interesting things that are given to our children to change attitudes and daily ethics. Keywords—: Literary works; short stories; fairy tales.

  This study analyzed social problems as reflected in the Preman, an anthology of short story by Tiwiek SA.  The social problems were encountered in the attitudes the characters of the stories occured.  The study used ontent analysis that use psycholinguistics as an analysis of a literary work.  Sources of the study was an anthology consisting of six short stories.  The study revealed that social conflict in the story reflected problems in social daily live where Javanese community normally faced. The problems include: thuggery, clashes, greedines, infidelity, prostitution, economy, and social inequality.  Themes of good and bad conducts also appeared as performed by the primary characters.

This paper investigates the use of Urdu words by Post-colonial writer Daniyal Muneenuddin in his short stories. A content analysis of four short stories from the short stories collection “In other rooms, Other wonders”, published by Random House Group Limited, UK, has been conducted carefully. The three short stories are “NAWABDIN ELECTRICIAN”, “SALEEMA”, and “IN OTHER ROOMS, IN OTHER WONDERS”. The current research answer many questions like why have English words are replaced with Urdu Word in English short stories? Is the English Language is failed to convey contextual meanings? The frequency of Urdu words in the written discourse of short stories indicates the Multilingualism phenomenon in given texts. The analysis also highlights the emerging trends in Pakistani English writings and language mixing as multilingualism in written text. The post-colonial literature written by Pakistani writers provides a clue of the emergence of Pakistani English, and the use of Urdu words in Pakistani English variety anticipates its different forms and functions in written discourse.

The writing of literary works by authors from Minangkabau is dominated by the theme of youth resistance to Minangkabau culture supported by the Elder. Therefore, this article tried to discuss about young people's resistance to Minangkabau culture in the Kompas Daily short story. The research data was collected from four short stories by Minangkabau authors published by Kompas daily and analyzed using the theory of sociology of literature by using mimesis approach. This type of research was qualitative descriptive. Collecting and analyzing data were done simultaneously with reading-record-analysis technique, used content analysis method and heuristic and hermeneutic reading method. The findings of the study and discussion revealed that the short story of the Kompas Daily contained the resistance of Minangkabau youth which included resistance to the tradition of money pick-ups,  to the customary provisions that prohibit boys in Minangkabau occupied communal land, to mamak policies abusing inherited property, and  to the ban on marriage in the Minangkabau culture.Penulisan karya sastra oleh pengarang yang berasal dari Minangkabau didominasi oleh tema penentangan kaum muda terhadap budaya Minangkabau yang didukung oleh kaum tua. Oleh sebab itu, artikel ini mencoba melihat penentangan kaum muda terhadap budaya Minangkabau dalam cerpen Harian Kompas. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dari empat cerpen karya pengarang Minangkabau yang diterbitkan Harian Kompas dan dianalisis menggunakan teori sosiologi sastra dengan menggunakan pendekatan mimesis. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskripstif. Pengumpulan dan penganalisisan data dilakukan secara bersamaan dengan teknik baca-catat-analisis, menggunakan metode content analysis dan metode pembacaan heuristik dan hermeneutik. Temuan penelitian dan pembahasan mengungkapkan bahwa cerpen Harian Kompas memuat penentangan kaum muda Minangkabau yang meliputi penentangan terhadap tradisi uang jemputan, penentangan terhadap ketentuan adat yang melarang anak laki-laki di Minangkabau menempati tanah ulayat, penentangan terhadap kebijakan mamak yang menyalahgunakan harta pusaka, dan penentangan terhadap larangan pernikahan sesuku dalam budaya Minangkabau.

Digital painting are alternative media that show visual messages which element of da’wahput into the painting. With digital painting, we can share da’wah with the precious look. One of them is smudge art technic from Baju Seno that choose K.H. Anwar Manshur as an object. As we know that “Yai Anwar Manshur” is Caretaker of Lirboyo Kediri Boarding School. This research has goals to describes the signs that appear from smudge art digital painting and also to describe the meaning inside. The research use qualitative approach. The writer use analytical method with Charles Sanders Pierce Semiotic Theory. With use Semiotic Theory, any signs will prefers to “Yai Anwar Manshur”. And all of the verbal and nonverbal signs have to interpretate to be understood. The most important source of data is derived through the signs that appear on the smudge art digital painting of “Yai Anwar Manshur” and the previous research result on same themes, books, and also journals. There are signs that appear in smudge art digital painting “Yai Anwar Manshur” from Baju Seno. Start from nonverbal signs that appear on facial expressions, body expressions, and gestures of “Yai Anwar Manshur” as objects. And also visual signs as like design elements, for example lines or scratches effect of smudge tool, color, texture, and gradation that appear in smudge art digital painting “Yai Anwar Manshur”. The meaning or interpretation of nonverbal and visual signs that appear, are related with “Yai Anwar Manshur” as digital painting objects. In terms of attitude and personality, it is depicted in sign that appear on the smudg art digital painting by Baju Seno Hartyanto. Firm, disciplined, simple, and humble attitudes also personalities are the meanings that appear behind nonverbal and visual signs in digital painting. And form here the person or figure of “Yai Anwar Manshur” can be a motivation while encouraging everyone to be positive and be a better personality. The message can be a da’wah for the generations of Muslims around, through a visual work in the from of smudge art digital painting with objects “Yai Anwar Manshur” by Baju Seno Hartyanto. NILAI MORAL DALAM ANTOLOGI CERPEN FILOSOFI KOPIDAN IMPLIKASINYA DALAM PEMBELAJARAN SASTRAAbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menemukan nilai-nilai moral yang terkandung dalam antologi cerpen Filosofi Kopi melalui kajian hermeneutik serta implikasinya dalam pembelajaran sastra di SMA. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik analisis isi. Nilai moral yang diteliti dibatasi pada nilai positif dalam antologi cerpen Filosofi Kopi. Sumber data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yakni antologi cerpen Filosofi Kopi karya Dewi Lestari yang berisi 18 cerita yang terdiri 8 cerita pendek dan 10 prosa liris, tetapi yang diteliti hanya 8 cerita pendek. Berdasarkan hasil analisis yang telah dilakukan terhadap delapan cerpen, dapat disimpulkan bahwa cerpen-cerpen karya Dewi Lestari mengandung nilai-nilai moral positif yang meliputi kejujuran, bertanggung jawab, kesetiaan, sopan santun, hati nurani, rendah hati, dan konsekuen. Implikasi hasil penelitian ini adalah pembelajaran sastra di sekolah dengan menggunakan beberapa judul cerpen dalam antologi cerpen Filosofi Kopi karya Dewi Lestari sebagai sumber pembelajaran berpotensi menghasilkan siswa yang mempunyai nilai-nilai moral yang baik. Kata kunci: nilai moral, cerpen, pembelajaran sastraAbstractThis study was aimed at identifying the moral values contained in Filosofi Kopi short story anthology through hermeneutic studies and its implications in the study of literature in thesenior high school. The study used a descriptive qualitative method with a content-analysis technique. The moral values under study were limited to positive values. The data source used in this study was written by Dewi Lestari. This short story contained 18 stories consisting of 8 short stories and 10 lyrical proses. The samples of this study were 8 short stories. Results show that the short stories of Dewi Lestari's work contain positive moral values that include honesty, responsibility, loyalty, courtesy, conscience, humility, and consequence. The implications of the study include the fact that literature learning using this anthology is able to improve the students’ moral values.Keywords: moral value, short-story, literature education

A literature is a reflection of real world reality. A writer wrote it in a literary work. One of the themes of short stories in Indonesia is the theme of women's resistance in traditional and cultural circles. The short story "The First Night of a Priest" by Gde Aryantha Soethama tries to offer the theme. The main character in the short story is Ni Krining, a Balinese woman from a lower caste who is married to a Brahman caste. The situation makes Ni Krining must accept polygamy. Behind his sacrifice, Ni Krining has resisted the cultural system in his environment and made his existence recognized. This study uses an existentialist feminism study to explore various reasons that make Ni Krining gain recognition in its environment which is dominated by patriarchal culture.

 Shabondama is one of Yoshio Toyoshima's short stories that tells the story of a magician named Havons. Havons who is not willing to die of his son trying to restore his son's life with the help of a witch who gave him magic bubbles. With these bubbles Havons traveled while showing his magic.By using literature study approach this article will describe the social values during Havons' journey. Through the characters action and conflict this short story tried to implies a message of kindness to the surrounding community as a social values. As result it can be understood that  the characters in this short story teach social values that  refer to services between people, togetherness in life and  fair actions towards others. With these values Shabondama short story  has a social function as a literary work that teaches something in an entertaining way.

Sociopragmatics is about a condition on language used by speakers when they are involved in social interaction. Sociopragmatics also describe about a critic to evaluate speakers language. Therefore sociopragmatics become into sociopragmacritics to analyze some social actions, contexts, and social discourse in some literary works. In this study, internalization sociopragmacritics in language through literature is used to identify culture element, language use, social context, and social function. Internalization sociopragmacritics show about interaction language used by speakers when they discuss some events in their neighborhood. This research uses a literary work written by OkkyMadasari, namely DuaLelaki. Analyzing DuaLelaki is based on the main topic which is adapted from real event happening in Ambon, Indonesia, that is about interfaith between Moslem and Catholic. This research aims to describe the sociopragmacritics elements such as social language use and social context mentioned in DuaLelaki short stories. Research approach is qualitative. Data collection of this research is library and documentation. Research data is the short story of DuaLelaki itself, which was published on May 12th, 2013 in newspaper namely Media Indonesia. The data is based on words, phrases, and sentences used by two main characters, Amir and Lukas. Data research analyzes are using objective hermeneutic to analyze more details and linked into conceptual chart. Data research validation is using focus group discussion, lecture consult, and doing question-answer with colleagues. Research findings mention that social language use always relates with social context in the short story. The results of this research are showing social interaction, body language expression, assertive, environment, and character live in DuaLelaki short story.
