AbstractIt has been thought that sportspersons, through their participation in sport, acquire moral attitudes and behavior that make them good moral role models. These moral attitudes and behavior can be called the ethos of sport, and consist of the principles of fair play and courage, justice, and honesty. In this article, it is argued that this belief is mistaken. Through four very common examples of sporting practice, it is shown that sport, contrary to providing a good basis for proper moral behavior, promotes what otherwise would be called non-moral attitudes and behavior. As a conclusion, it is pointed out that sportspersons might very well be good moral role models, but that they would be moral role models in spite of the fact that they are involved in sporting activities.

Consequentialism is thought to be in significant conflict with animal rights theory because it does not regard activities such as confinement, killing, and exploitation as in principle morally wrong. Proponents of the “Logic of the Larder” argue that consequentialism results in an implausibly pro-exploitation stance, permitting us to eat farmed animals with positive well-being to ensure future such animals exist. Proponents of the “Logic of the Logger” argue that consequentialism results in an implausibly anti-conservationist stance, permitting us to exterminate wild animals with negative well-being to ensure future such animals do not exist. We argue that this conflict is overstated. Once we have properly accounted for indirect effects, such as the role that our policies play in shaping moral attitudes and behavior and the importance of accepting policies that are robust against deviation, we can see that consequentialism may converge with animal rights theory significantly, even if not entirely.

The Covid-19 pandemic has greatly impacted on Indonesian life. Various efforts have been made by the government by issuing various policies, from implementing health protocols, Work From Home (WFH), large-scale social restrictions (PSBB), to the implementation of office activity restrictions (PPKM). To break the chain of transmission of Covid-19, even though the government is responsible for handling Covid-19, this is not only the duty of the government, but it is the joint duty of various elements of society, including the celebgram. This article deals with the role of celebgram in helping the government to break the chain of transmission of Covid-19. This qualitative research was conducted in the city of Makassar as one of the cities in Indonesia that has experienced twice large-scale social restrictions (PSBB). Data was collected by combining in-depth interviews and observation. There were ten informants participated in this study, whose age are varied between 19 and 27 years, and four of them are university students. All of the informants work as celebgrams, but seven of them have multiple professions: four of them are celebgrams and freelancers, two of them are celebgrams and entrepreneurs; and one of them has triple professions, as a celebgram, model, as well as freelancer.  The study indicated that influencers such as celebgrams have a great opportunity to influence their followers because celebgrams are considered role models or people whose attitudes and behavior are imitated by their followers. To educate people in relation to Covid-19, celebgrams equip themselves with good and correct knowledge about Covid-19 which obtained from various sources, ranging from the internet, social media, television and other trusted sources of information. In doing so, celebgram have different metods, such as providing education through social media or going directly to the community. Education through social media is carried out in the form of live Instagram, creating educational videos regarding the importance of health protocols, and uploading them on their respective social media accounts. In addition, the celebgram also made efforts to prevent the transmission of the Covid-19 virus by going directly to the field which was carried out in the form of spraying disinfectants and distributing health protocol packages, such as hand sanitizers, masks and educational posters. They did this not as a public paid endorser, but as a form of moral responsibility to help the government in overcoming Covid-19.  It is argued in this article that celebgram plays an important role in helping the government to break the chain of transmission of Covid-19.

Burnout and mental health issues among residents are associated with adverse health consequences and suboptimal job performance, e.g. increased medical error. Given role models as key to cultivating resilience, we created faculty resilience narrative videos within resilience skill training programs, hypothesizing such videos would provide new perspectives/insights on resiliency and humanize attendings in a useful way. Child and adult neurology residents at two institutions positively rated the impact of these faculty videos. Such videos are an innovative and practical way to: 1) provide exemplar role models for learning about coping with physician challenges and gaining insights on resilience; 2) access stories of triumph over challenge for inspiration; and 3) work to achieve local culture change by reducing stigma and increase empathy/connection during training. Successful implementation of this video innovation provides good rationale for further evaluation of impact on local culture, faculty experience, and resident attitudes and behavior.

The values of the national character become an important problem if there is still a disgraceful attitude or behavior carried out by a person in his daily life which results in disrupting the life of the community, nation and state. The rapid development of times and technology without good character or behavior will be a problem. The attitudes and behavior of a student that we often encounter, such as fights between students, brawls, drug abuse, drinking and promiscuity will have a negative impact on the development of student character. Synergy is needed between parents, teachers and the community in character building and development. In Pancasila and Citizenship Education aims to make someone a good citizen, have character and make a human being who is democratic and has Pancasila values. The aim of the study was to perform preliminary research to compare the smoking prevalence, attitudes and behavior between dentistry students in two universities in Europe using the standardized Global Health Professions Student Survey (GHPSS) questionnaire. This was cross-sectional carried out among dentistry students from the Medical University in Bialystok, Poland and Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. There were 582 participants; 282 were Italians, 202 were smokers and 42% were Italians. The response rate was 79.9% of Italian students and 79.6% of Polish students. The prevalence of smoking was significantly higher among Italian students (42% vs. 28.0%). Attitudes and behaviour of smokers and non-smokers differed statistically. Polish and Italian dental students presented statistically different behavior regarding the time to smoke the first cigarette, the willingness to stop smoking and trying to stop smoking in the last year. The multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that two independent variables, exposure to second-hand smoke (SHS) both at home and in public places (OR = 3.26 and OR = 5.9, respectively), showed a significantly higher occurrence of smoking. There is a high use of tobacco among dental students, which is particularly high in Italian dental students. Students realizes the positive perception of their own tobacco counsellor role in a dental setting. Dental students should be role models to their peers and patients.

This research applies the binding communication model to the sustainable communication strategies implemented in most hotels. The binding communication model links a persuasive message with the implementation of a low-cost commitment to strengthen the link between the attitudes and behavior of those receiving the message. We compared the effectiveness of a classical communication strategy (n = 86) with that of a binding communication strategy (n = 101) to encourage guests to choose sustainable behavior. Our results show that using the binding communication strategy generates significantly more sustainable behavior in guests than using the classical communication strategy. We discuss our results and suggest future avenues of research.

Abstract. The core aim of the present study is to compare the effects of a safety campaign and a behavior modification program on traffic safety. As is the case in community-based health promotion, the present study's approach of the attitude campaign was based on active participation of the group of recipients. One of the reasons why many attitude campaigns conducted previously have failed may be that they have been society-based public health programs. Both the interventions were carried out simultaneously among students aged 18-19 years in two Norwegian high schools (n = 342). At the first high school the intervention was behavior modification, at the second school a community-based attitude campaign was carried out. Baseline and posttest data on attitudes toward traffic safety and self-reported risk behavior were collected. The results showed that there was a significant total effect of the interventions although the effect depended on the type of intervention. There were significant differences in attitude and behavior only in the sample where the attitude campaign was carried out and no significant changes were found in the group of recipients of behavior modification.

Abstract. Most employees participate in workplace meetings, and their experiences in meetings can vary greatly, which can lead to positive or negative effects on both job attitudes and behavior. In this study, we examined the effect that a meeting attendee’s competence in the meeting topic had on their participation in the meeting and their perception of meeting effectiveness. Results indicated those with higher levels of competence in the meeting topic were more likely to participate and through participation found their meeting more effective; this relationship was stronger when employee dissent in the meetings was high. Leaders should ensure that those who are present in a meeting are competent in the topic of the meeting and encourage them to participate.
