To achieve the study aims two scales were used: Social Adjustment scale by "Sura, E. M." (1986), and Self- esteem scale by "Rosenberg, M." (1965). Results revealed that there were significant differences between visitors and non- visitors to psychological clinic after being traumatized in social adjustment and self- esteem. In addition, the results showed significant correlation between social adjustment and self- esteem among the total sample, visitors and non- visitors of the psychological clinic. The full text of the study includes details of the results and discussion, as well as some of recommendations made by the researchers.

The hypothesis of a low self-esteem in depressive patients was tested using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale in 24 recovered unipolar and 27 recovered bipolar patients, compared with a normal control group of 26 subjects matched for age and sex. The hypothesis was confirmed only for unipolars; bipolar patients presented a self-esteem score not significantly different from normal scores. Self-esteem was not related to clinical characteristics of the affective disorder, suggesting that low self-esteem may be a basic component of a depression-prone personality. The investigation of the relationship between self-esteem and social adjustment confirmed the presence of social conformism in bipolar patients and rigidly set low self-esteem in unipolar patients. These results should stimulate the evaluation of different psychotherapeutic treatments in the long-term psychosocial management of affectively ill patients.

SummaryMood disorders are characterized by manic and depressive episodes alternating with normal mood. While social function is heavily impaired during episodes of illness, there are conflicting opinions about inter-episode function. The present paper focuses on self-esteem and social adjustment in remitted mood disorders patients.Patients with mood disorders (99 bipolar and 86 major depressive subjects, in remission) were compared with a group of 100 control subjects. The self-esteem scale (SES) and the social adjustment scale (SAS) were used to measure self-esteem and social adjustment, respectively, in both groups of subjects.Patients with mood disorder exhibited worse social adjustment and lower self-esteem than control subjects. These results strongly confirm previous observations of poor inter-episode function in patients with mood disorder.

In the last decade, the research on the relationship between self esteem and psychological well - being has increased. The wellbeing that distinguishes between hedonic and eudaimonic ideology is widely used in research and has been empirically supported by experts from different cultures. The results of the study about correlation between self-esteem and psychological wellbeing showed varying results. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self esteem and psychological wellbeing through a meta-analysis study. The total study used was 24. Meta-analysis was performed based on sampling error. The results of the meta-analysis show generally that between self-esteem and psychological well-being is low. Correlation based on sampling error is 0.269, withi n the 95% confidence interval limit. The limited number of studies in the study may be a weakness. The accuracy of meta-analysis depends on the total sample used

AbstractViolence is considered one of the most important public health problems among Latino countries. In Colombia, approximately 41% of Medellin’s inhabitants have witnessed a homicide, 75% have witnessed an aggressive incident, and 40% have been victims of other types of violent incidents. Despite increased national/international attention paid to the effects of neighborhood violence exposure on childhood depression, little is still known about this phenomenon in non-clinical samples. This study examined neighborhood violence exposure and depression (negative mood, interpersonal problems, ineffectiveness, anhedonia, and negative self-esteem) among N = 320 8–12 years old youth. Data were collected from public schools in Medellin during 2009. Kovacs’ Children’s Depression Inventory was used to assess depression; neighborhood violence exposure was measured using Medellin’s Human Rights report on high-low violence rates neighborhoods where participants lived and/or attended school. Results show that 26 children reported depressive symptoms (a prevalence of 8.9 % in the total sample). Among early adolescents (boys and girls), exposure to higher levels of violence was associated with greater ineffectiveness. Gender did not moderate the relationship between violence exposure and depression subscales. Results raise awareness about the importance to further exploring other factors related to neighborhood violence exposure and depression (e.g., developmental stage, gender).

The main purpose of this research was to examine the potential mediation effects of self-esteem on the association between international students’ emotional intelligence (EI) and adjustment, as indexed by academic adjustment, social adjustment, and psychological adjustment. Data from 151 international students in southern Thailand were collected. The path analysis indicated that self-esteem fully mediated the relationships between EI and social adjustment and psychological adjustment, whereas self-esteem acted as a partial mediator between EI and academic adjustment. In addition, self-esteem impacted the three outcomes much more strongly than EI. Practical suggestions for enhancing students’ adjustment are addressed and examined. The limitations of the research and suggestions for further studies are also briefly discussed.

This study aims to determine the relationship of self-regulation with social adjustments in Al-Amanah Al-Gontory Islamic Boarding School in Tangerang. the population of this study was 200 respondents, with a trial sample of 40 respondents and the sample to be used in this study was based on Morgan's table of 135 respondents. The sampling technique uses the technique of ramdom sampling and data collection is done by using a scale of self-regulation and social adjustment scale. After testing, it is known that the correlation coefficient of the validity of statements on the self-regulation scale of 0.340-0.756 with p = 0.000-0.032, and there are 30 valid statements and 12 statements that fall, with a reliability of 0.07212. While the validity of the statement from the social adjustment scale obtained a value of 0.271-0.676 with p = 0.000-0.0049, there are 37 valid statements and 11 statements that fall, with a reliability of 0.8357. Based on the results of data analysis obtained correlation coefficient of self-regulation with social adjustment of rxy = 0.499 with p = 0,000 <0.05.   Keywords: Self-Regulation, Social Adjustments. SummarySelf-esteem (SE) and social adjustment (SA) are often impaired during the course of affective disorders; this impairment is associated with suicidal behaviour. The aim of the present study was to investigate SE and SA in unipolar or bipolar patients in relation to demographic and clinical characteristics, especially the presence of suicidality (ideation and/or attempt). Forty-four patients, 28 bipolar and 16 unipolar, in remission for at least 3 months, and 50 healthy individuals were examined through a structured clinical interview. SE and SA were assessed by the Rosenberg self-esteem scale and the social adjustment scale, respectively. The results have shown that bipolar patients did not differ from controls in terms of SE, while unipolar patients had lower SE than bipolars and controls. No significant differences in the mean SA scores were found between the three groups. Suicidality during depression was associated only in bipolar patients with lower SE at remission; similar but not as pronounced was the association of suicidality with SA. It is concluded that low SE lasting into remission seems to be related to the expression of suicidality during depressive episodes of bipolar patients, while no similar pattern is evident in unipolar patients.
