AbstractThe project is in stage of development of a Plan of Waste Integral Management for the University Colegio Mayor de Cundinamarca (Bogotá), in order to optimize processes intraining programs in which chemicals are used, specifically in teaching laboratories. The transformation of such substances necessarily generates waste production with physical and chemical properties different from those of the starting compounds, to which must be given a proper final disposition for not causing problems that affect job performance, health and the environment. The study is aimed at determining how structured supervision of influences work attitude and promotes job performance in universities. This is because the success of any academic institution depends on effective supervision of staff. To achieve the objectives, the study adopted survey research design using interviews and questionnaire. Respondents (107) were selected from different units/departments of a public university in Nigeria through stratified sampling technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study revealed that Junior Non-Academic Staff of the university were poorly supervised, leading to poor job performance. The cause of this is non-application of structured supervision. The study believes in structured supervision, which involves elimination of harsh supervision, enthronement of cordial relationship between workers and their supervisors, regular training of supervisors, promotion of exemplary supervision, and provision of institutional policy on supervision. Therefore, there is a strong relationship between structured supervision and high job performance. As a result, it is important that supervisors are regularly trained to imbibe spirit of structured supervision which will help them to lead their subordinates to achieve high job performance.

The study examined the influence of information and communication technology (ICT) skills on job performance among librarians in the university libraries in South-South, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey design using a self constructed questionnaire as instrument for data collection. The questionnaire was constructed after consulting other related literature in order to ensure that relevant items were included. Five research questions were answered in the study. The population consists of 233 librarians in the six federal, seven state and eight private university libraries in the South-South, Nigeria. A purposive sampling technique was adopted for the study. The data collected was analysed using frequency, percentages and tables for easy interpretation and understanding of the results. Findings revealed that the majority of the respondents in the university library acquire ICT skills through self-sponsorship. It also showed that the majority of the respondents were not skilful in system management, web application and tools such as: system troubleshooting, webinar/digital conferencing tools, Web 2.0, website designing and digital communication. The findings further revealed that there was no policy in place to regulate ICT training of librarians where a majority were yet to attend training once in the last five years, hence there was inadequate training of librarians on ICT skills. There was evidence in the study that training in ICT skill would engender improved service delivery, library administration, efficiency, job performance and reduction in job stress. The findings also revealed that inadequate training, poor planning and implementation, non-sponsorship of librarians, absence of policy for evaluation and assessment are factors militating against ICT skills acquisition. The paper recommended that ICT skills training should be prioritized while internally organized training programmes should be highly encouraged in the university library. The university management should make some financial commitment in support of academic librarians for training and retraining on ICT skills for improved job performance and effective delivery of library services to the patrons while relevant policies should be put in place for continuous evaluation and training of librarians on ICT skills.

The study examined self-esteem and socioeconomic status as determinants of vocational skills acquisition among undergraduates in the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State. The study adopted descriptive survey design, 129 students were drawn as the sample from the university using the convenient sampling technique. Of the respondents, 58(45.0%) were males and 71(55.0%) were females and the respondents' age ranged from 18 years to 27 years. Two standardised psychological test instruments were used namely: Hare Self-Esteem Scale and Gaur's Socio-economic Status Classification Scale and data collected was subjected to both descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. Two hypotheses were generated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings from the first hypothesis reveal that self-esteem had the significant influence on vocational skills acquisition among undergraduates (t= 2.516 > t-tab=1.976, p< 0.05). However, the results of the second hypothesis revealed that socio-economic status had no significant influence on vocational skills acquisition among undergraduates (F (2,126) =0.182, p>0.05).  The study concluded that while self-esteem served as a determinant of vocational skills acquisition among undergraduates in the University of Ibadan, socioeconomic status did not affect their preference for vocational skills acquisition.

Employees’ organizational commitment is considered as a crucial issue in higher education setting for realizing institutional vision, attaining its goals, and uplifting employees’ motivation to achieve better work performance.  This subject has, therefore, been studied so as to draw attention to enhance the effectiveness of Ethiopian higher education institutions with particular reference to Haramaya University. Thus, the main objective of this study was to assess academic staffs’ level of organizational commitment. In addition, the study assessed whether there exist a significant difference in academic staffs’ level of organizational commitment in terms of their gender and level of education. A cross-sectional research design was employed in the study. Primary and secondary data sources were used. A commitment scale questionnaire was used to collect data from 275 participants who were selected using stratified random sampling technique as well as further information about the study were also collected using focus group discussion and document review. The quantitative data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics; the qualitative data were analyzed using content and narration methods of data analysis. The study revealed that academic staffs of the university have moderate level of organizational commitment. With this level of organizational commitment, it is less likely to attain both individual work performance objectives and organizational missions and vision of the university. In addition, there were relative implications of turnover, turnover intention, absenteeism, and demotivation among academic staffs. The study further revealed that although there is no significant difference in level of commitment with reference to gender, academic staffs’ level of organizational commitment was significantly different with reference to their level of education. Thus, it is recommended that the working environment of the university is revisited by giving due emphasis to and addressing the determinants that lower the organizational commitment of the staff.
