Chapter 6 focuses on the power of shared identity and values. Social psychology shows that we like to feel like we belong in social groups because it boosts self-confidence and helps to make sense of the world. Each person has more than one identity and maintaining social group membership is a powerful driver of political behavior. Highlighting groups and identities that we share is a vital strategy to relate to others and to encourage them to listen to political conversations they may otherwise ignore or avoid. Advocacy campaigns and persuasive communication about LGBT rights have been focused on shared, strongly held identities and values to shift opinions. This chapter discusses the benefits of focusing on commonalities rather than differences or things that are unknown, including shared identities as members of the same community or state, ethnoracial group, or political party, and of appealing to common values like fairness, equality, and patriotism.

Xi Jinping has three important conclusions about the spiritual independence of the Chinese nation, namely, the independence of the national spirit is the foundation of a country's political, ideological, cultural and institutional independence; Cultural self-confidence is a big issue concerning the independence of the national spirit. Socialist core values and Four Self-confidences are important supports to maintain the independence of the national spirit. The proposal of spiritual independence of the Chinese nation not only embodies the Chinese nation's high self-consciousness and self-determination in spiritual independence, but also strengthens the basic idea that the Chinese nation adheres to independence in opening to the outside world. Furthermore, it shows that the Chinese nation upholds the basic proposition of respecting the independence of every nation and country in the world.

After the first oil-price shock of 1973, a search for new energy policies was started all over the world. Changing one fundamental concept - that relating to the general development of energy supply and consumption - was, however, out of the question. The pre-1973 trend of development was maintained. The energy elasticities did not change. The old forecasts were still held to be valid and were considered now, as earlier, to be the objectives which a successful energy policy had to achieve. This was considered a prerequisite for high growth rates of GNP and improvements in living conditions, and energy consumption was regarded as an indicator of the level of economic development. Therefore, the focus was shifted to an enlargement of the supply of indigenous energy resources as a substitute for imported energy, so that dependence on foreign countries could be minimized.

The attention of modern linguistics to the study of verbal representatives of the mental essence (both individual and collective one) of the native speakers involves an appeal to all subsystems of the national language where territorial dialects take a significant part. The analysis of dialect linguistic units possessing linguistic and cultural value is considered as a necessary way for the study of people’s worldview and perception of the world, national mentality as a whole. The ability of stable phrases (phraseological units) to preserve and express a native speaker’s attitude to the world around them is the basis for the use of the analysis of folk phraseology as a way of penetration into a speaker’s spiritual world. Volumetric representation of the external and internal peculiarities of stable phrases allows the author to get their systematization in the form of phraseosemantic field consisting of different kinds singled out in phraseosemantic groups. The article deals with stable phrases of synonymic value recorded in the Dictionary of Smolensk dialects and stable phrases forming a phraseosemantic group. These phrases are analyzed taking into account the semantic structure of the key word, the characteristics of the dependent word, and the method of forming phraseological semantics. On the example of the analysis of phrases with the key word «bit’» and a synonymic series with the semantic dominant «bezdel’nichat’», the article discusses the peculiarities of phraseological nomination in Smolensk dialects and confirms a high level of connotativity and evaluation in the folk phraseology.
