The article presents the results of comparison of the biochemical composition of the muscles of two-year carp of two-way crosses and the breeds and lines of different-origin carp and Amur sazan. The combinations characterized by an increased level of the dry basis content, fat and protein are established in comparison with a mean-population value, a mean level of the Belarusian collection lines, import breeds and Amur sazan bred under the same conditions. The mean mass of two-year carp selected for investigation was 531.3 g within the range from 370.2 to 645.0 g mainly with a low and mean degree ofvariation. The mean level of the dry basis content of all examined crosses was 25.85 %, the maximum value of this parameter of German × three prim was 27.92 %, and the minimum value of Germany ×Lahvin scaleless was 24.08 %. The low values of the variation coefficient (1.0–9.8 %) point to a slight variation of this parameter of different mixed bred crosses.

The biochemical composition (proteins, lipid, ash and moisture) of different parts of the body (gill, meat, egg) of fattened and natural mud crab Scylla serrata was determined. Twenty four samples of S. serrata (12 from wild & 12 from fattening farm) of different sizes and sexes (half of the sample is male) were used in this study. The mean protein and lipid contents are significantly (p<0.05) higher in fattened crabs than natural in natural crabs regardless of size and sexes.  Moisture and ash were higher in natural crab than in fattened ones. The highest and lowest moisture content was noticed in gills and eggs in both natural and fattened crabs. Protein and lipid contents were comparatively higher in eggs than in other body parts. Female crabs contained high protein and lipid than males in both natural and fattened crabs.  From the results of this study it may considered that fattened crab might be comparatively superior to natural crabs as they appear to provide higher levels of protein and fat  for human nutrition. Keywords: Biochemical composition; Natural and Fattened mud crab; Scylla serrata   © 2013 JSR Publications. Our laboratory performs procalcitonin (PCT) assays on a Brahms KRYPTOR analyzer with the Brahms PCT sensitive Kryptor kit. In this study, we wanted to compare the assays obtained in this way with the ones performed on the LIAISON® XL. From January to May 2017, 171 samples were analyzed, of which 65 from female patients (age: 22–98 years) and 106 from male patients (age: 16–97 years). The PCT determination was performed using the LIAISON® XL and KRYPTOR analyzers, by chemiluminescence (Chemiluminescence immunoassay—CLIA) (LIAISON® BRAHMS PCT® II GEN) and immunofluorescence (Brahms PCT sensitive Kryptor) assay, respectively. For the LIAISON® BRAHMS PCT® II GEN, 52% of the results were placed between 0.0 and 0.5 ng/mL, 18% between 0.5 and 2.0 ng/mL, and 30% between 2.0 and 100 ng/mL; the mean was 4.09 ng/mL, the median 0.456 ng/mL, the maximum value 97.2 ng/mL, and the minimum value 0.02 ng/mL. For the Brahms PCT sensitive Kryptor, 55% of the results were positioned between 0.0 and 0.5 ng/mL, 21% between 0.5 and 2.0 ng/mL, and 24% between 2.0 and 100 ng/mL; the mean was 3.72 ng/mL, the median 0.39 ng/mL, the maximum value 103 ng/mL, and the minimum value 0.01 ng/mL. The mean of the results obtained with the two methods showed no significant differences (3.717 for Kryptor and 4.094 for LIAISON®). PCT assay with Brahms reagents, both on the Kryptor and LIAISON®XL platforms, offers excellent performance in terms of sensitivity and specificity.

Abstract. Prolactin levels were determined in samples of umbilical venous blood at vaginal delivery after 38–42 weeks of uncomplicated gestation. The mean level of prolactin for all samples was 328.4 ± 7.4 (se) ng/ml. The levels did not vary significantly during these weeks of gestation, nor correlate with the duration of labour. The means of levels combined every 2 h varied significantly throughout the 24 h period with a maximum value of 460.3 ± 85.1 ng/ml at 2–4 a.m. and a minimum value of 241.4 ± 27.2 ng/ml at 6–8 a.m. and remained relatively constant between 2–4 and 10–12 p.m. These results suggest that a circadian periodicity may exist in the secretion of prolactin by the human foetus, and that this is not affected by labour and delivery.

The research design used was Experimental with Kunsekutive Sampling technique. The population in this study were patients who had migraine in Noreh village. The working area of Puskesmas Sreseh was 18 respondents and the result was analyzed using Shapiro Wilk and Wilcoxon test. The results of the study in migraine patients can be seen that the mean pretest scale of migraine pain scale is 4.67 whereas, for the mean posttest of migraine pain scale is 2.22. In the pretest of migraine pain scale the minimum value found is 4 whereas, the maximum value is 6. While in posttest skalanyeri migraine the minimum value found is 1 whereas, the maximum value is 3. In the Shapiro Wilk analysis showed that there were differences in the scale of migraine pain before and after wet bruise therapy. In the Wilcoxon analysis comparing migraine patients, a p-value of 0,000 indicated that there was an effect of wet-brushing therapy on changes in the pain scale. To health workers and educational institutions are expected to use wet brewing therapy as a complementary alternative and as a non-pharmacological treatment that can reduce the scale of pain.

Background: Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a gas compound that is colorless, odorless and tasteless. Carbon monoxide comes from incomplete combustion such as burning firewood.Firewood is the main fuel used in tofu manufacturing in tofu factories. Wood-burning smoke in the tofu plant contains CO gas capable of polluting the air, so it can cause disturbance in the form of reddish eyes, quick thirst, headache and shortness of breath. This disorder can occur in exposed to factory workers who are exposed to CO. Carbon Monoxide enters the body at a certain level of exposure causing changes in some of the body's molecules and ultimately disrupts the functioning of the body. One of the organs involved changes due to excessive CO exposure is the liver characterized by increased levels of enzyme Alanin Aminotransferase (ALT). Research Objectives: To analyze the duration of carbon monoxide exposure to the enzyme profile Alanin Aminotranferase. Method: Using Cross Sectional design with 34 respondents. serum of factory workers know checked ALT levels using Mindray BA-88Aspeculator. Data were analyzed using Spearman Correlation test. Result: Exposure time of CO to factory worker to know obtained mean (4.06 years), median (4.00 years), minimum value (1 year) and maximum (7 years). Levels of ALT enzyme in factory workers know obtained mean (33,82 U / L), median (33.00 U / L), minimum value (8 U / L) and maximum value (56 U / L). There is a long relationship of CO exposure to ALT levels (r = 0.783; p <0.001; n = 34). Conclusion: The longer the factory workers know exposed to CO, the higher the ALT level. Factory workers know to reduce carbon monoside exposure by changing jobs and pay attention to the use of personal protective equipment when working.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the significance for sex determination of the measurement of the area formed by the xerographic projection of 3 craniometric points related to the mastoid process: the porion, asterion, and mastoidale points. METHOD: Sixty skulls, 30 male and 30 female, were analyzed. A xerographic copy of each side of the skull was obtained. On each xerographic copy, the craniometric points were marked to demarcate a triangle. The area (mm²) of the demarcated triangle for each side of the skull (right (D) and left (E) sides) was determined, and the total value of these measures (T) was calculated. RESULTS: Concerning the right area of the male and female skulls, 60% of the values overlapped; for the left area, 51.67% overlapped, and for the total area, 36.67% overlapped. The analysis of the differences between the sexes in the areas studied was significant for the 3 areas. Regarding the total area, which is the preferred measurement because of the asymmetry between the sides of the skull, the value of the mean was 1505.32 mm² for male skulls, which was greater than the maximum value obtained in the female skulls. The value of the mean for female skulls was 1221.24 mm², less than the minimum value obtained for the male skulls. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates a significant result in the 3 studied areas, (D), (E), and (T). The total area values show less overlapping of values between the sexes, and therefore can be used for sexing human skulls. For the population studied, values of the total area that were greater than or equal to 1447.40 mm² belonged to male crania (95% confidence). Values for this area that were less than or equal to 1260.36 mm² belonged to female crania (95% confidence).

The extinction of X-rays (radiation attenuation) was studied using the low-density samples of polyethylene polymer to which the rockwool fibers powder is added as filled filler. This latter was blended with (weight percent) and with a micro-filler (filler particle) the sizes equal to or less than<212 μm. Furthermore, the free path average and linear attenuation coefficient were calculated.  Experimental results showed that the rockwool fibers powder act to reduce the spaces between polymer chains particularly when the weight percent is more than (10%), which implies the capability of the polymer/filler to make, the X-rays applied to the samples; disappear at these rates used in this study. The experimental work was conducted by applying a radiation beam having an energy of 30 kV based on the use of the X-ray unit with two tubes which are; X-ray generating tube and G-M detector with an energy of VG.M =600. The magnitudes of the mean free path are inversely proportional to the weight percent of the compound material whereas the proportionality of these percentages which are particularly the high ones which occur at experimental values of the linear attenuation coefficient. The value of the mean free path of 1.28 cm is the maximum value obtained at a weight percent of 1 %, whereas the minimum value of the mean path was 0.877 cm at a weight percent of 10 %. In addition, the maximum value of the attenuation coefficient obtained is 4.754 cm-1 at a weight percent of 10% and its minimum value at a weight percent of 1% was 0.7 cm-1. The maximum value of transmittance and the minimum value of absorbance were obtained at a weight percent of 10%, are (31.8) and (68.2) respectively. Through the practical results that we obtained that are better suited to high percentages more additive proportions can be used than the percentages used in this research to shielding X-rays more.

The aim of the study was to assess fracture resistance under cyclic loading of Rosetta®SM CAD vs. IPS e.max CAD (control) vonlays restoring maxillary premolars. According to the sample size calculation, a total of 20 samples will be selected and then divided into two equal groups; 10 sample each based on the material type: Group (A): Ten vonlays (n=10) manufactured from IPS e. max CAD blocks (control). Group ( B): Ten vonlays (n=10) manufactured from Rosetta®SM CAD blocks (intervention). A natural tooth presenting an upper first premolar was prepared in accordance with the ceramic onlay restorations preparation guidelines with an occlusal box with half of the bucco-lingual distance and a 2 mm depth from the cusp tip to pulpal floor, gingival seat with 1 mm depth from pulpal floor, occlusal reduction of 2 mm of the functional cusp with extending the preparation at the palatal surface by 2 mm in the cervical direction, occlusal reduction of 1.5 mm of non-functional cusp and 12º divergence angle. The preparation was then extended to the labial surface, with a 0.5 mm chamfer finish line. All line angles were finally rounded, and all margins were finished. For duplication of the natural tooth; the epoxy dies were constructed. Base and catalyst of the epoxy resin material were mixed as instructed by the manufacturer at a rate of 200r/min and then was poured into the silicon mould under vibration to eliminate any air voids, then was allowed to set completely following the manufacturer instructions for 24 hours, this procedure was repeated 20 times for creating 20 epoxy resin dies which replicating the prepared natural tooth. The die was then scanned by optical scanning using Medit i500 oral scanner. Milling of Vonlays was achieved using Sirona MCX5 milling machine using IPS e. max CAD blocks and Rosetta SM CAD blocks: 10 IPS e.max CAD blocks with block size C14 and 10 Rosetta®SM CAD blocks with block size C14 were used. Vonlays were then seated on their corresponding dies and cemented with dual cured self-adhesive resin cement (Variolink, Ivoclar Vivadent). Cementation procedures were performed by keeping each sample under a constant pressure of 5Kg using a custom designed cementation device for standardization the applied load during cementation process. All samples were mechanically aged (cyclic loading) to simulate 6 months of clinical use. Following that, all samples were subjected to fracture resistance testing under a compressive load to the center of their long axis using computer controlled universal testing machine with a load cell of 5 Kilo newton (K N) with a computer software used for data recording (Instron® Bluehill Lite Software). The mean values ± SDs values for e.max group were (502.39 ±102.89 N) with minimum value (338.16 N) and maximum value (721.29 N). The mean values ± SDs values. Rosetta group were (468.76 ± 67.54 N) with minimum value (367.11 N) and maximum value (648.48 N). Failure modes were determined under stereomicroscope and classified into repairable and catastrophic in both groups and showed that 60% of e.max group exhibited repairable failure while 40% of specimens showed catastrophic failure while in Rosetta group, 90% of the specimens exhibited repairable failure. Only 10% displayed catastrophic failure. Then a fractured part within each group was examined under scanning electron microscope (SEM) to reveal and compare their microstructure.

Background: Cigarette smoke free radicals can cause cellular damage and different diseases. All the body fluids have antioxidants which protect against free radicals. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate salivary total antioxidant capacity and peroxidase, uric acid and malondialdehyde levels in smokers and a nonsmoking control group. Methods: Unstimulated saliva was collected from 510 males. A total of 259 subjects were current smokers and 251 were non-smokers. The levels of salivary total antioxidant capacity, uric acid, peroxidase and malondialdehyde were measured using standard procedures. Data were analyzed with t test and ANOVA. Results: The smokers were younger and dental hygiene index was higher than healthy nonsmoking controls. The mean total antioxidant capacity in smokers and nonsmokers was 0.13±0.07 and 0.21±011, respectively (P=0.001). Smokers had significantly lower peroxidase and uric acid levels than healthy controls. In addition, the mean malondialdehyde levels in the smokers and nonsmokers were 4.55 ±2.61 and 2.79 ±2.21, respectively (P=0.001). Conclusion: Cigarette smoke produces free radical and oxidative stress, causing many side effects. Salivary antioxidant levels decreased and malondialdehyde levels increased in smokers, indicating the high oxidative stress among smokers compared to nonsmokers. Cigarette smoke had deleterious effects on main salivary antioxidants levels.

This study was initiated on 24 prepubertal Holstein x Kankrej crossbred heifers of nearly identical age (7-9 months) and body weight (130-140 kg) at University farm to evaluate the effect of high plane of nutrition on blood biochemical and minerals profile and the age at puberty. Twelve heifers were managed under routine farm feeding (control) and the rest 12 under ideal optimum feeding regime (treatment) that included extra 1 kg concentrate, 30 g min mix and ad-lib dry fodder. The body weight and ovarian ultrasonography together with blood sampling was carried out at monthly interval from 10 to 18 months of age to study the ovarian dynamics and blood biochemical changes. High plane of nutrition to growing heifers was beneficial in reducing the age of onset of puberty (by 2-3 months) compared to routine farm fed group. The mean plasma total protein and cholesterol concentrations showed a rising trend with significant variations from 10 to 16 months of age, where it got mostly stabilized indicating adult profile. The activity of enzymes GOT and GPT also rose gradually and significantly from 10 months till 14-15 months of age, and thereafter it remained more or less static till 18 months of age. The levels of both these enzymes were higher, with lower protein and cholesterol, in control than the treatment group from 15-16 months of age onwards. The mean plasma levels of both calcium and phosphorus increased gradually and significantly with advancing age till 16-17 months of age, with little higher values in supplemented than a control group. The plasma levels of zinc, iron, copper, and cobalt also showed rising trend with significant differences between 10th and 12th-14th months of age, and from 15th to 18th months of age the levels were statistically the same in all the groups with slightly higher values in the treatment group.
