The first stage of labor starts from the onset of cervical dilatation and divided into latent and active phases. The latent phase is a more prolonged phase of labor, which allows various interventions performed. Interventions and the latent phase's length may lead to anxiety and restlessness, which might contribute to prolonged labor when experienced by women in labor. A combination of the Zilgrei method and lumbar massage used to reduce labor pain. This method combines movement, change of position, breathing exercise, and the light massage performed since the first stage of labor. It expected that the work of interrelated pelvic muscles becomes harmonized; hence, the cervix will be softer, and the uterine muscles may push the fetus towards the birth canal. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Zilgrei method and lumbar massage combination on the latent phase of the first stage of labor progress in primigravida. It is a quantitative quasi-experimental study on 66 women who underwent the latent phase of the first stage of labor in independent practice of midwife the work area of Citarip Public Health Center during May–July 2019, who were divided equally into control and intervention groups. The statistical analysis used was univariate and bivariate analyses with an independent t test. The mean duration of labor in the latent phase of the first stage of labor in the control group and intervention group was 368 minutes and 307 minutes, respectively, with a difference of 61 minutes (p=0.002). Therefore, the Zilgrei method and lumbar massage combination significantly affect labor progress in the latent phase of the first stage of labor in primigravida.

Labor pain is a physiological condition that began at the first stage of labor (laten and active phase). Pain comes from uterine contractions and cervical dilation in an attempt to pave the way for birth and encourage babies to be born. Experts find pharmacological and non-pharmacological ways to reduce pain in labor, one of them is Dzikir guided by childbirth helper (midwife). The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences of labor pain level on mother in latent phase before and after applying Dzikir. Subjects were 15 accidentally selected mothers in labor latent phase on March - April in PMB “S” Puger Jember. The design of this study uses a quasi-experimental one group pre-posttest. Results showed significant decreased pain level of mothers after doing Dzikir significantly (Z=-3,578, p≤0.001). In conclusions, there are differences of labor pain level on mother in latent phase before and after applying Dzikir

The pain in labor due to contractions and the process of expelling the baby cannot be avoided by the mother. One way to reduce pain intensity non-pharmacologically is music therapy and the provision of spice drinks. music therapy can reduce stress and anxiety levels, especially during childbirth, while herbal drinks derived from ginger are analgesic, as well as cinnamon and cloves, can relieve pain. The research method is “Quasi experimental pre-post test with control group design. The intervention group was Sundanese instrumental music therapy with spice drinks and the control group was only given spice drinks, which was carried out on mothers giving birth during an active phase. The population is all mothers giving birth in BPM Bogor area. The sample size of the average difference test of two paired groups is 15 respondents in each group. The results showed a decrease in labor pain in the active phase of the first stage in the intervention group with p = 0.016. This shows that there is an effect of giving music therapy and spice drinks on the intensity of labor pain as assessed by the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and there is no significant change in the decrease in labor pain during the active phase of labor, in the control group (p>0.05). There was no significant result on the length of labor with p = 0.439 (p > 0.05). This means that both the control and intervention groups did not show a difference in the time/length of labor

ABSTRACTThe effects of providing education regarding comfort options available in the hospital setting on level of maternal comfort and pain during labor were explored in a quasi-experimental pretest/posttest comparison group design (N = 80). No significant difference was found in maternal comfort or pain between the intervention group that received comfort education and the control group. Comfort education did result in change for plans to maintain comfort during labor (p = .000), an increased use of comfort measures during labor (p = .000), and an increased probability of continuation with original plans for pain control during labor. Providing education for maintaining comfort during labor can allow women to make informed choices during labor.

Background: Problems in childbirth, including old labor, which is one of the causes of death for mothers and newborns, is still widely found in Indonesia. Factors that influence labor to take longer are abnormal presentation, inadequate contractions, birth canal abnormalities, multiple pregnancies and anemia. To deal with prolonged labor, the UK has introduced active birth techniques. Hypnobirthing is one of the active birth methods that can be used during the first stage of labor. This research purposes to study the effect of the application of the active birth technique using hypnobirthing on the progress of the first stage of labor in the mother. Methods: This type of research was quasi experimental with the post-test only design approach. This research was conducted from 15 May to 18 August 2020, in 4 independent practice midwives (BPM) Padang City in 2020. Data were collected through observation sheets using non-probability sampling techniques, namely purposive sampling with a total sample of 15 samples. Data were collected using observation sheets. Data were analysed using univariate and bivariate analysis using the dependent T-test.Results: The results showed that the mean labor progress using hypnobirthing was 3.67 and SD±1.49 with a minimum value of 1 and a maximum of 6. Based on the statistical test, the p value was 0.000 (p<0.05).Conclusions: There is the effect of the application of active birth techniques using hypnobirthing on the progress of stage I labor in maternal labor.

Background: One of the actions that can be taken to accelerate labor and widen the birth canal is episiotomy. If the post episiotomy wound does not receive treatment measures such as exercice, it can cause negative effects such as the length of time the wound heals is at high risk of infection. The purpose of this study is to prove the effectiveness of Kegel Exercise on the healing process of episiotomy wounds in the inflammatory and proliferation phases of post partum mothers. Method: This type of quantitative research with a quasi experimental design of posttest only non-equivalent control group. The research sample of post partum mothers with episiotomy as many as 40 people were divided into two groups: 20 mothers of the intervention group and 20 mothers of the control group, using purposive sampling techniques and Mann Whitney analysis test. Results: p value 0,000 ≤ value α = 0.05 so that Kegel Exercise is effective in the healing process of episiotomy wounds in the inflammatory and proliferative phases in post partum mothers. Conclusion: Kegel exercise can be used as an alternative action that is easy and safe to accelerate the healing process of episiotomy wounds in post partum mothers.

Background: Natural childbirth is a beautiful experience with many safe options and benefits. Labor pain is widely viewed as being nothing more than the perception of unpleasant sensation. Many methods have been used for pain relief which constitutes non-pharmacological methods such as relaxation therapy and others are by pharmacological agents. Entonox, homogenous gas mixture of 50:50 nitrous oxide and oxygen, a form of inhalation analgesia is very effective in reducing pain and thereby progressing to painless vaginal delivery. The usage of Entonox is known worldwide, however its usage in Kerala is comparably very less. The objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of inhalation analgesia (Entonox) in pain and comfort during first stage of labor among parturient mothers. Materials and methods: A quasi-experimental pretest – posttest control group with 60 mothers (30 each in experimental and control) was the adopted design with parturient mothers in 37-40 weeks of gestation from selected hospitals in Kollam, Kerala. Demographic proforma, visual analogue scale and comfort assessment checklist were the tools used. The statistically significant relationships were identified by descriptive and inferential statistics. Ethical clearance was granted by the committee in Kollam, Kerala. Results: Out of 60, 45% of the mothers were in the age group of 24-29 years, 35 % had undergone upper primary education, 61.7% were primi gravidae and 55% of them were in the gestational age of 39-40 weeks. The mean post interventional pain score of the experimental group was lower than that of control group (4.07/9.93, p < 0.05). Also, the mean post interventional comfort score of the experimental group was lower than that of control group (7.37/15.77, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Entonox provides significant pain relief and improves comfort and it can be quickly implemented during painful labor. By further exploration and research studies would help the mothers be free to choose the harmless Entonox during labor.
