Bone is a complex tissue consists of cell and matrix. Matrix consist of fibers and ground substance that contain mineralized. Bone mineralized always increase and decrease through the remodelling process. Remodelling bone consists of two processes, bone formatted by osteoblast and bone resorption by osteoclast. Growing period is the best period to increase bone density. The research purpose was to prove exercise and calcitonin effect in the bone density and bone mass increment. The research method used the randomize post test only control group design. The groups consist of control, exercise, and combine (exercise+calcitonin) group. The sampel of each group is seven young males norvegicus rat (six weeks old). Exercise group swam once a day and three times a week, calsitonin group was given synthetic salmon calcitonin injection 2 IU/100gram of rat weight everyday and combine group was treated both of exercise and calcitonin injection. The treatment duration is eight weeks. Measurements of density bone was done with using ultrasound DBM SONIC 1200 (Digital Bone Measurement- emsor,SA,Madrid,spain). This instrument was issued conducting sound waves to assessment of density bone with m/sec. The research also measured mass , diameter and length of the bone. Mass bone was measured by using a analytical balance librar - shimadzu in grams. The result was the combine had higher bone density (p=0,001) and bone mass (p=0,004) compare to other groups. The conclusion was the combination of exercise and salmon calsitonin can increase bone density and bone mass in growing rat.

OBJECTIVES This study was to determine the acute response of the toe-spread-out exercise(TSE) on the medial longitudinal arch height(MLAH) and the static and dynamic balance.METHODS Twenty-four healthy young males and females were randomly assigned to the exercise group(n=12) or to the control group(n=12). The exercise group performed 40 repetitions of TSE while the control group had a rest on the chair. Before and after the exercise or rest, MLAH was measured while standing. One-leg standing test was conducted on the force plate with eyes closed and open. The total distance of the center of pressure (COP) was calculated to assess the static balance. Y-balance test was performed; and the anterior, and medial/lateral posterior reach distances were measured to assess the dynamic balance.RESULTS There was an interaction between group and time for the MLAH (p<.001), and the MLAH in the exercise group increased after the exercise (2.03±1.01 mm; t=-6.930, p<.001). There was an interaction between group and time for the anterior reach distance during the Y-balance test (p=.023), and the distance in the exercise group showed a strong tendency to increase after the exercise (t=-2.104, p=.059). No interaction was found for the total distance of the COP.CONCLUSIONS The 40 repetitions of TSE increased MLAH and showed a positive effect on dynamic balance in healthy young males and females. These results suggest that TSE can be useful as a new exercise method to improve the foot arch structure and function. Further research with the longer duration of TSE training for various populations is warranted.

To determine the effect of a 12-week high intensity intermittent exercise (HIIE) intervention on total body, abdominal, trunk, visceral fat mass, and fat free mass of young overweight males. Participants were randomly assigned to either exercise or control group. The intervention group received HIIE three times per week, 20 min per session, for 12 weeks. Aerobic power improved significantly (P<0.001) by 15% for the exercising group. Exercisers compared to controls experienced significant weight loss of 1.5 kg (P<0.005) and a significant reduction in total fat mass of 2 kg (P<0.001). Abdominal and trunk adiposity was also significantly reduced in the exercising group by 0.1 kg (P<0.05) and 1.5 kg (P<0.001). Also the exercise group had a significant (P<0.01) 17% reduction in visceral fat after 12 weeks of HIIE, whereas waist circumference was significantly decreased by week six (P<0.001). Fat free mass was significantly increased (P<0.05) in the exercising group by 0.4 kg for the leg and 0.7 kg for the trunk. No significant change (P>0.05) occurred in levels of insulin, HOMA-IR, and blood lipids. Twelve weeks of HIIE resulted in significant reductions in total, abdominal, trunk, and visceral fat and significant increases in fat free mass and aerobic power.

Previous studies have concluded that exercise training is beneficial to patients on hemodialysis (HD). Results, however, have shown that differences in the type, intensity, and frequency of physical exercise lead to variability in its effects on physical functional performance and depression. Further research is thus warranted. Our aim was to evaluate the effects of aerobic exercise on physical functional performance and depression during HD. Using a pretest–posttest control group design, we recruited HD patients and nonrandomly assigned them to an exercise group ( n = 13) that completed a 12-week aerobic exercise program during HD or a control group ( n = 11) that did no exercise during HD. The primary outcome measures were physical functional performance, as evaluated by the 6-min walk test and the sit-to-stand test, and depression, as evaluated by the Beck Depression Inventory II. The secondary outcome measures were albumin and triglyceride levels and hematocrit. Results revealed significant between-group differences in physical functional performance and depression but not in albumin level, hematocrit, or triglyceride level. Findings suggest that exercise may play a critical role in physical functional performance and may decrease depression. Exercise should be encouraged and performed during HD in HD centers.

The effects of weighted vest walking and strength-training exercises on bone mineral density (BMD), balance, strength, and self-efficacy were tested in older women. Eighteen women, age 69.2 ± 3.5 years, were randomly assigned to an exercise group (EG) ( n = 9), or a sedentary control group (CG) ( n = 9). The EG participated in 32 weeks (three 1-h sessions/week) of supervised strength training and walking, stair climbing, and balance exercises while wearing weighted vests. The CG did not exercise. All women took Ca²+ and vitamin D during the study period. Measures included 1) BMD of the hip and lumbar spine measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, 2) strength, 3) balance, and 4) scores on a self-efficacy instrument. The EG had significant improvements in bone density of the femoral neck and balance and a significant weight loss ( P < 0.05). There were no changes in self-efficacy in either group.

This study aims to improve the students’ science literacy through the application of STEM-Based Worksheet (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) on sound waves learning the material. The research used mixed-method with exploratory sequential design in the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Samples were taken using purposive sampling technique. This study involved 25 eighth grade students of class F as the experimental class and 25 eighth grade students of class A as the control class in SMP Negeri 2 Pugung. The data collecting techniques were observation method, questionnaire, and test. The data were analyzed using independent sample t-test to see the effectiveness of the learning in both groups. The questionnaire results were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the application of STEM-based worksheet could effectively increase the science literacy with N-gain of 0.43 (medium category). The highest increase was in the indicator of “explains the science phenomenon" and the lowest was on the "drawing conclusions" indicator. The results of the students’ questionnaire responses after using the developed worksheet was 92,73 (very high category). This means that the developed students’ worksheets effective in increasing science literacy.

Abstract. Twelve older inpatients (M age = 66.8) with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) participated in this controlled pilot trial either in a physical exercise group (PEG; n = 6; aerobic, strength, and coordination exercises) or an active control group (ACG; n = 6; relaxation exercises) twice a week for four weeks. While depressive symptoms decreased in both groups, reduction of symptoms was significantly larger in the PEG. However, the PEG had higher BDI scores compared to the ACG at pretest. Neurocognitive functioning and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) concentration did not change significantly. A four-week exercise program may be a feasible adjunct therapy in older MDD patients but the efficacy of the program needs to be proven with larger samples.

SummaryPatients undergoing surgery for coronary artery bypass graft or heart valve replacement had their platelet count and mean volume measured pre-operatively, immediately post-operatively and serially for up to 48 days after the surgical procedure. The mean pre-operative platelet count of 1.95 ± 0.11 × 1011/1 (n = 26) fell significantly to 1.35 ± 0.09 × 1011/1 immediately post-operatively (p <0.001) (n = 22), without a significant alteration in the mean platelet volume. The average platelet count rose to a maximum of 5.07 ± 0.66 × 1011/1 between days 14 and 17 after surgery while the average mean platelet volume fell from preparative and post-operative values of 7.25 ± 0.14 and 7.20 ± 0.14 fl respectively to a minimum of 6.16 ± 0.16 fl by day 20. Seven patients were followed for 32 days or longer after the operation. By this time they had achieved steady state thrombopoiesis and their average platelet count was 2.44 ± 0.33 × 1011/1, significantly higher than the pre-operative value (p <0.05), while their average mean platelet volume was 6.63 ± 0.21 fl, significantly lower than before surgery (p <0.001). The pre-operative values for the platelet volume and counts of these patients were significantly different from a control group of 32 young males, while the chronic post-operative values were not. These long term changes in platelet volume and count may reflect changes in the thrombopoietic control system secondary to the corrective surgery.

Diabetes mellitus dapat menyebabkan cukup banyak komplikasi seperti kelainan mata, kelainan ginjal, kelainan pembuluh darah dan kelainan pada kaki. Penderita diabetes mellitus yang mengalami komplikasi kronis perlu diberikan upaya preventif untuk mencegah komplikasi, salah satunya adalah kemampuan perawatan kaki. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menguji efektivitas supportive educative system dalam meningkatkan kemandirian perawatan kaki pada pasien dengan diabetes mellitus Tipe II di Puskesmas Permata Sukarame, Bandar Lampung. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode quasy eksperimen dengan desain pretest-posttest with control group dengan total masing-masing kelompok sebanyak 18 responden. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menyebarkan kuesioner kepada responden yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi penelitian. Penelitian ini diuji menggunakan analisis univariat, bivariat dan uji T-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan rata-rata dalam kemandirian perawatan kaki pada kelompok intervensi dan kelompok kontrol dengan p-value 0,000. Pendidikan dan praktik perawatan kaki harus diberikan sejak dini sebagai upaya pencegahan untuk komplikasi.   Kata kunci : Supportive educative system, kemandirian perawatan kaki   SUPPORTIVE EDUCATIVE SYSTEM IN IMPROVING INDEPENDENCE OF FOOT CARE IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETES MELLITUS TYPE II   ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus can cause quite a lot of complications such as eye disorders, kidney disorders, vascular disorders and abnormalities in the legs. Patients with diabetes mellitus who have chronic complications need to be given a preventive effort to prevent complications, one of which is foot care ability. This research was conducted to examine the effectiveness of supportive educative systems in increasing the independence of foot care in patients with Type II diabetes mellitus in the Permata Sukarame Health Center Bandar Lampung Working Area. This study used a quasi-experimental method with pretest-posttest with control group design with a total of 18 respondents each. Data collection is done by distributing questionnaires to respondents who meet the research inclusion criteria. This study was tested using univariate, bivariate, T-Test analysis. The results showed that the mean differences in the independence of foot care in the intervention group and the control group in the Permata Sukarame Community Health Center work area with a p-value of 0,000. Education and practice of foot care should be given early as a preventative effort for complications.   Keywords: Supportive educative system, independence of foot care

ABSTRAK Upaya untuk meningkatkan mutu pendidikan keperawatan khususnya untuk mendukung peserta didik menjadi perawat profesional memerlukan proses pembelajaran dengan menggunakan fasilitas keterampilan klinis. Practice based simulation model didasarkan pada teori belajar konstruktif yang menegaskan bahwa pengetahuan tidak pasif ditransfer dari pendidik kepada peserta didik, tetapi dibangun oleh peserta didik melalui pengolahan pengalaman dan interaksi dengan lingkungan mereka. Dengan metode simulasi di laboratorium dapat mendorong mahasiswa untuk menggunakan critical thinking dalam mengambil keputusan dalam mengatasi masalah tanpa merugikan pasien yang sebenarnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh practice based simulation model terhadap critical thinking pada mahasiswa semester VI di FIK Unissula Semarang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Quasy – Experiment dengan pendekatan pretest-posttest with control group design. Pengambilan sampel dengan teknik  simple random sampling dengan jumlah 21 responden baik kelompok intervensi maupun kelompok kontrol. Analisis data menggunakan uji Paired T-Test dan Independent Samples T-Test. Hasil penelitian selisih peningkatan critical thinking pada kelompok intervensi sebanyak 11.95 poin dan pada kelompok kontrol 2.05. Practice based simulation model berpengaruh terhadap critical thinking dengan nilai p=0.00<0.05. Disimpulkan bahwa practice based simulation model mempengaruhi critical thinking pada mahasiswa semester VI FIK Unissula Semarang. Kata kunci: Practice based simulation model, critical thinking

The use of the current method of learning very big influence on the growth and development of students' creativity and interest for all subjects to be taught, especially in the use of partograf. From interviews to the 10 students of IV semester Prodi Midwifery (D-III) Kadiri University is known that 4 (40%) of students said it was understood, 4 (40%) of other students say they are confused and 2 (20%) of them said that he was a student not familiar with partograf. This shows the lack of understanding of students in filling partograph. The research objective is to determine the effectiveness of the use of learning methods for skills training simulation with filling partograph the second semester students in Midwifery (D-III) Kadiri University Faculty of Health Sciences in 2015. The research design used is pre experiment with design Static Group Comparison/Posttest Only Control Group Design. The population studied were all students of the second semester in Midwifery (D-III) Faculty of Health Sciences University of Kadiri numbered 50 students and sampling techniques Federer totaled 32 students. This is a research instrument partograph sheet. Results of the study were analyzed using the Mann Whitney test with a significance level of 0.05 were used.The results showed 7 respondents (46.7%) are adept at using partograf with simulation teaching methods and 6 respondents (40.0%) are adept at using partograph with practice learning methods. Data were analyzed by Mann Whitney test obtained ρ = 0.965; α = 0.05 means that H0 is accepted and H1 rejected. This means there is no difference in the effective use of learning methods for skills training simulation with partograph filling. Based on the results of this study are expected to choose the method of learning as a learning method in charging partograph because both methods equally effective.; Keywords: simulation methods, drilling methods, partograph filling
