This contribution deals with the training opportunities for archival staff in Austria. For a long time the Institute for Austrian Historical Research provided the postgraduate studies for Austrian archivists which was the only way of archival science education. The professional training for archive, library and information assistance was established in 2006. The Association of Austrian Archivists installed a basic course which offers archival training for archivists of various archive categories. The certified basic course, which runs for ten years, has become a model of success.

The article elaborates upon a successful model of postgraduate studies on lean manufacturing. The subject of the research was nine editions of the Kaizen Academy postgraduate studies organized by the Warsaw University of Technology and the Kaizen Institute in the years 2009–2018, that still enjoys interest in the market. A detailed qualitative analysis of this case, followed by a comparative analysis with other post-graduate programs of this type on the national, European, and global level should make it possible to find what is necessary to launch and actively operate for a long time in the (considerably competitive) market of qualification raising programs related to Lean Management (critical success factors). The study has also identified the differences between a successful program, analyzed in detail, and other available programs described in the literature and on the Internet. This has been achieved through a structured analysis of thirty-nine postgraduate programs identified by querying scientific databases and the Google Internet search engine. Best practices and models of postgraduate education on Lean Management have been discussed, and the thirty-nine programs comprising the identified sample have been compared. Considering the very general level of the data available in terms of the organization of postgraduate programs, it has also been assessed if they follow constructivism and experiential learning paradigms. This has been achieved by including the industrial days/visit indicator in the comparison. Given its high value, it has been identified as a success factor of the postgraduate curriculum on Lean Management.

AbstractLike earth and planetary scientists, most children are curious about the world, the solar system and the rest of the universe. However, for various reasons primary schools emphasise language and calculus rather than natural sciences. When science is taught, examination systems often favour knowledge of the ‘right’ answer over the process of investigation and logical reasoning towards that answer. In order to continue to spark children's curiosity and their motivation to learn and discover, science education hubs at universities and science museums could collaborate more with schools and teachers, and are beginning to do so. The objective of this position paper is to report on recent experiences in earth and planetary science education for pupils in primary and secondary education, to provide examples and inspiration for scientists. We report three examples of initiation and consolidation of science education in primary schools in the Netherlands: (1) a focus on asking questions and seeking information to reason towards the answer, initiated with a classroom game, Expedition Mundus, (2) bringing pupils and teachers together outside their school in the science museum to gain confidence and self-efficacy, and (3) having children ask their own questions and do their own research guided by the empirical cycle, for example on experimentation on sandbox scale models of channels and crater lake deltas as found on Mars. The focus on other planets, fictitious and real, stimulates pupils to ask questions about planet Earth. Finally, we argue that involvement of more scientists in science education would not only benefit primary and secondary schools and future students but also university education and science communication with society.

[Background] Recent studies have consistently shown that medical students experience a high rate of psychological symptoms. In this situation, teaching mindfulness in medical school has the potential to prevent student burnout. However, there are few consistent educational programs in medical schools throughout Japan.[Method] Since 2015, Showa University (Tokyo) has practiced an intensive self-care program based on mindfulness for 600 first-year healthcare professional students in the schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, and rehabilitation. The target objectives of this program were as follows: understand the needs of self-care, enhance self-awareness, evaluate evidence of mindfulness for mental diseases, and practice formal/informal mindfulness-based activities. This program consisted of a 90-minute lecture, followed by consecutive reflective activities, including completing personal journals and portfolios. The students were required to plan how to make use of what they learned in this course. The students were asked to complete a questionnaire upon completion of the course.[Results] The questionnaire indicated that more than 90% of the students were satisfied with the program, and about 25% started regular mindfulness-based practices such as meditation and breathing methods aimed to reduce test anxiety. Descriptions from the e-portfolio showed that the participants understood evitable stressors and the importance of the body-mind relationship.[Conclusion] Mindfulness-based self-care education can encourage healthcare students to understand the necessity of self-care during the early stages of their professional training. This program for the first year students will be followed by a course on Professionalism for healthcare professional students during their subsequent years of university education.

Problem of introducing modern organizational and methodological teaching approaches to foreign citizens of scientific speaking competences at the propaedeutic stage is explored in the article. The primary task of preparatory departments and similar structures of pre-university training of higher education institutions of Ukraine is to achieve communicative competence by foreign students at a level that ensures the assimilation of scientific disciplines in the process of professional training in educational and professional programs. The leading role of the organizational and methodological model of teaching scientific speech to foreign speakers to meet their communicative needs during the study of SSS and profile disciplines is determined. A number of problems that affect the effectiveness of the formation of scientific speech skills is outlined. The issue of the absence of lexical and verb minimums in natural sciences for the initial stage of learning a foreign language is studied. The productivity of interaction of Ukrainian language teachers and profile subject’s teachers in the issues of observance of the unified language regime at the propaedeutic stage, coordination of the structure of textbooks and modeling of educational scientific texts is proved. The text-centric approach is defined as the basic methodical principle. The structure of textbooks on the introductory and basic course of SSS, methodical and didactic materials are described. The expediency of coordinating the teaching of the scientific style of speech with the practical course of the general literary language (in terms of lexical and grammatical content) and the logic of presentation of scientific topics of specialized disciplines is noted. It is proved that the introduction of the studied model has a positive effect on the formation of starting skills of scientific speech and Ukrainian-language communicative competence of foreign students in the professional sphere.

The professional exam in a teacher's school had a special weight and significance. At the professional exam, young teachers had to show maturity, solid knowledge and skills, and apply it in practice. The evaluation criteria were very strict, to such an extent that only a number of candidates out of the total number of applicants passed the exam in the first exam period. There is an urgent need and task of every teacher in the search for new knowledge, creative application of knowledge in given conditions and constant effort to work better and more successfully. To that end, the importance of working on developing teachers' responsibility for their own professional development is very important. The function of professional development should include a request for reconsideration in terms of building teachers' openness to change, suppressing resistance to the previously acquired knowledge is constantly emphasized and considered sufficient, which for various reasons was quite emphasized by teachers at that time is, it may be said, still present today. This theoretical study aims to analyze and present one of the forms (forms) of professional development of teachers in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the second half of the 20th century, and that is the professional teacher exam after graduating from teacher's school. So, this is a historical research based on the analysis of available, relevant documentation.

‘Electromagnetic Fields and Waves’ is an important professional basic course for students in the major of electrical and electronic engineering. Students regard it as the most difficult course because of numerous concepts and equations. Philosophy could assist the students’ understanding of the electromagnetic theories. The Chinese Yin- Yang principle reveals the basic composition and operating principles of the universe from the macroscopic and microscopic view, which provides another way to illustrate the electromagnetic phenomenon and equations. This paper presents a heuristic teaching practice carried out by combining the Chinese Yin- Yang principle and modern electromagnetic theory. Several lectures on vector analysis, electrostatic field, steady magnetic field, time-varying electromagnetic field, and gravitational field, even relativity and particle theories are given to show the application of the Yin- Yang principle. Student survey and exam results show that the adoption of Yin-Yang principle could help students to acquire the basic concepts in limited teaching hours and to promote philosophical thinking embodied in China's university education.
