Tschacher and Haken have recently applied a systems-based approach to modeling psychotherapy process in terms of potentially beneficial tendencies toward deterministic as well as chaotic forms of change in the client’s behavioral, cognitive and affective experience during the course of therapy. A chaotic change process refers to a greater exploration of the states that a client can be in, and it may have a potential positive role to play in their development. A distinction is made between on the one hand, specific instances of instability which are due to techniques employed by the therapist, and on the other, a more general instability which is due to the therapeutic relationship, and a key, necessary result of a successful therapeutic alliance. Drawing on Friston’s systems-based model of free energy minimization and predictive coding, it is proposed here that the increase in the instability of a client’s functioning due to therapy can be conceptualized as a reduction in the precisions (certainty) with which the client’s prior beliefs about themselves and their world, are held. It is shown how a good therapeutic alliance (characterized by successful interpersonal synchrony of the sort described by Friston and Frith) results in the emergence of a new hierarchical level in the client’s generative model of themselves and their relationship with the world. The emergence of this new level of functioning permits the reduction of the precisions of the client’s priors, which allows the client to ‘open up’: to experience thoughts, emotions and experiences they did not have before. It is proposed that this process is a necessary precursor to change due to psychotherapy. A good consilience can be found between this approach to understanding the role of the therapeutic alliance, and the role of epistemic trust in psychotherapy as described by Fonagy and Allison. It is suggested that beneficial forms of instability in clients are an underappreciated influence on psychotherapy process, and thoughts about the implications, as well as situations in which instability may not be beneficial (or potentially harmful) for therapy, are considered.

Hijrah is a changing the one self of a person, from a bad to be a better person. This study aims to examine the role of religiosity on emotional regulation in the hijrah community. The subject in this research are the ikhwan and akhwat in hijrah community “X” with the total of 100 respondents. The measuring instrument used in this study is the religiosity scale and emotional regulation scale. This study used quantitative methods and for the sampling the researcher used incidental sampling techniques. The method used for the data analysis is a simple regression analysis and an additional age and gender analysis using the cross tabulation analysis (crosstab) with the help of SPSS 21.0. The results of data analysis showed a regression coefficient of 0.379 with a value of p = 0,000 (p <0.01), indicating that the hypothesis proposed in this study was accepted, that there was a significant positive role between religiosity towards emotional regulation in ikhwan and akhwat in the hijrah community. The result of the additional analysis using crosstab shows that the most dominant age of the subject are between 20 to 25 years old and the most dominant gender is akhwat. Effective contribution of religiosity towards emotional regulation is 0,144 or 14,4% and the rest is 85.6% influenced by others factors that is gender, age, culture and education.

We integrate tools to monitor information acquisition in field experiments on discrimination and examine whether gaps arise already when decision makers choose the effort level for reading an application. In both countries we study, negatively stereotyped minority names reduce employers' effort to inspect resumes. In contrast, minority names increase information acquisition in the rental housing market. Both results are consistent with a model of endogenous allocation of costly attention, which magnifies the role of prior beliefs and preferences beyond the one considered in standard models of discrimination. The findings have implications for magnitude of discrimination, returns to human capital and policy. (JEL C93, D83, J15, J16, J24, J71, R31)

AbstractMost of those engaged in town and country planning are aware of the importance of geology regarding their subject. Indeed there are many geologists now engaged in the planning service. There are two areas, in particular, where geological skills will be required on an increasing scale in the future. These are in mineral planning and landfill and restoration on the one hand, and countryside planning on the other.Land use planning is a political process and has as its basis the positive role of development plans and the negative constraints of development control. Development control involves the approval and refusal of planning applications by planning authorities and the Secretary of State for the Environment. Many disciplines contribute technical advice regarding planning but technical advice is just one of the factors influencing any decision since planning authorities are charged with considering all material considerations.

Motor functions in general and motor planning in particular are crucial for our ability to synchronize our movements with those of others. To date, these co-occurring functions have been studied separately, and as yet it is unclear whether they share a common biological mechanism. Here, we synthesize disparate recent findings on motor functioning and interpersonal synchrony and propose that these two functions share a common neurobiological mechanism and adhere to the same principles of predictive coding. Critically, we describe the pivotal role of the dopaminergic system in modulating these two distinct functions. We present attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as an example of a disorder that involves the dopaminergic system and describe deficits in motor and interpersonal synchrony. Finally, we suggest possible directions for future studies emphasizing the role of dopamine modulation as a link between social and motor functioning.

The study deals with the subject of threats to the Saudis youth thinking and the good ways to overcome them. The study used the analytical descriptive method, which is the most appropriate one for the nature of this study. The study showed the importance of young people to the nations, and explained that intellectual guidance influences youth thinking. It also mentioned that Westernization was a prime objective of the Western intellectual invasion, where he seeks to distract youth and others from their Islamic beliefs, and impose western values and convictions, which not serve their religion or their homelands, and mentioned that the most threatening is technical threat at this time. It also explains the most important social threats that affect the upbringing of young people such as family, friends and media. The study concluded to show how to face these threats, and what is the appropriate mechanism to overcome them and reduce the impact, and even used positively to young people from harm. And that social media is a double-weapon. It can play a positive role in influencing young people's thinking on the one hand, and it can have a negative impact on young people's thinking on the other hand. We must concentrate on the role of institutions of socialization in forming the personality of the individual from their childhood until their youth, so the institutions of socialization should play effective positive role.

The article is devoted to the issue of Russian conservatism and popular representation and analyzes the new historiography of social thought in the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries on the basis of a number of monographs and materials of well-known specialists in late Slavophilism published by the “Russian Idea” internet site over the period of several years. The authors differentiate the protective conservatism (in the spirit of K.P. Pobedonostsev and his work “The Great Lie of Our Time”) that denied the positive role of any representation, and the social conservatism that saw the popular representation in the form of Zemsky Sobor as an integral part of political life and panacea against revolution. The authors prove the thesis that moderate conservative and Slavophiles’ recipes of social and political system modernization, based on the principles of power and society mutual trust, much better suited the goals of Russian state system evolutionary modernization than the reactionary protective conservatism on the one hand, and western liberal parliamentarism, on the other hand.

Abstract. The present study aimed at evaluating if the three-item sense of coherence (SOC) scale developed by Lundberg and Nystrom Peck (1995) can be effectively used for research purpose in both nonclinical and clinical samples. To provide evidence that it represents adequately the measured construct we tested its validity in a nonclinical (N = 658) and clinical sample (N = 764 patients with cancer). Results obtained in the nonclinical sample attested a positive relation of SOC – as measured by the three-item SOC scale – with Antonovsky’s 13-item and 29-item SOC scales (convergent validity), and with dispositional optimism, sense of mastery, anxiety, and depression symptoms (concurrent validity). Results obtained in the clinical sample confirmed the criterion validity of the scale attesting the positive role of SOC – as measured by the three-item SOC scale – on the person’s capacity to respond to illness and treatment. The current study provides evidence that the three-item SOC scale is a valid, low-loading, and time-saving instrument for research purposes on large sample.

This article investigates the role of relational motives in the saying-is-believing effect ( Higgins & Rholes, 1978 ). Building on shared reality theory, we expected this effect to be most likely when communicators were motivated to “get along” with the audience. In the current study, participants were asked to describe an ambiguous target to an audience who either liked or disliked the target. The audience had been previously evaluated as a desirable vs. undesirable communication partner. Only participants who communicated with a desirable audience tuned their messages to suit their audience’s attitude toward the target. In line with predictions, they also displayed an audience-congruent memory bias in later recall.
