Mobile app markets have faced huge expansion during the last decade. Among different apps, games represent a large portion with a wide range of game categories having consumers in all age groups. To make a mobile game suitable for different age categories, it is necessary to adjust difficulty levels in such a way to keep the game challenging for different players with different playing skills. The mobile app puzzle game Wonderful Animals has been developed consisting of puzzles, find pairs and find differences game (available on the Google Play Store). The game testing was conducted on a group of 40 players by recording game level completion time and conducting a survey of their subjective evaluation of completed level difficulty. The study aimed to find a mechanism to adjust game level difficulty to the individual player taking into account the player’s achievements on previously played games. A pseudo-algorithm for self-learning mechanism is presented, enabling level difficulty adaptation to the player. Furthermore, player classification into three classes using neural networks is suggested in order to offer a user-specific playing environment. The experimental results show that the average recognition rate of the player class was 96.1%.

A doença periodontal abrange uma gama variada de condições inflamatórias da gengiva, osso e ligamento periodontal dependentes da microbiota do biofilme, de respostas imunes inatas, inflamatórias e adaptativas do hospedeiro e, ainda, fatores individuais genéticos e ambientais. Já as fissuras labiopalatinas são deformidades anatômicas decorrentes da fusão parcial dos processos maxilares nas primeiras semanas de vida intrauterina, especialmente, envolvendo o rebordo alveolar, resultando em alterações no arco dentário e vestíbulo, podendo provocar anomalias dentárias, mal posicionamento dentário e alterações na oclusão, como atresia maxilar e mordida cruzada. Este trabalho tem como objetivo revisar a literatura a respeito da prevalência de alterações periodontais em indivíduos com fissura labiopalatina em diferentes grupos etários e tipos de fissura, bem como comparar os achados com indivíduos sem fissura labiopalatina. Indivíduos com fissura labiopalatina têm sido considerados mais suscetíveis ao desenvolvimento de doença periodontal em função de sua condição anatômica particular e das consequências da fissura para o indivíduo, como muitas vezes o tratamento ortodôntico prolongado, que leva a maior acúmulo de biofilme. Entretanto, conhecimentos mais recentes têm demonstrado que a doença periodontal é uma alteração multifatorial mediada por complexos mecanismos, além do acúmulo de biofilme, como por exemplo, a condição imunológica individual, preponderante para a evolução da doença. Assim, novos estudos são necessários para compreender melhor o comportamento das doenças periodontais nos indivíduos com fissura labiopalatina.   Palavras-chaves: Fenda Labial. Fissura Palatina. Doenças Periodontais.   Abstract Periodontal disease covers a wide range of inflammatory conditions of the gingiva, bone and periodontal ligament dependent on the biofilm microbiota, host’s innate, inflammatory and adaptive immune responses, as well as individual genetic and environmental factors. Cleft lip and palate are anatomical deformities resulting from the maxillary processes partial fusion in the first weeks of intrauterine life, especially involving the alveolar ridge, resulting in changes in the dental arch and vestibule, which can also cause dental anomalies, dental malposition and changes in occlusion such as maxillary atresia and crossbite. This work aims to review the literature regarding the prevalence of periodontal changes in individuals with cleft lip and palate in different age groups and types of cleft, as well as to compare the findings with individuals without cleft lip and palate. Individuals with cleft lip and palate have been considered more susceptible to the development of periodontal disease due to their particular anatomical condition and the consequences of the cleft for the individual, such as often the prolonged orthodontic treatment that leads to greater biofilm accumulation. However, more recent knowledge has shown that periodontal disease is a multifactorial alteration mediated by complex mechanisms in addition to the biofilm accumulation, such as, for example, the individual immune condition, which is preponderant for the disease evolution. Thus, further studies are needed to better understand the periodontal diseases behavior in individuals with cleft lip and palate.   Keywords: Cleft Lip. Cleft Palate. Periodontal Diseases.

The present experiment investigated ability-performance relationships for two memory skills, each of which required associative learning. Evidence suggests that, after practice, young and old adults have equivalent associative learning abilities (Fisk and Rogers, 1991; Kausler, 1982). We provided 41 young and 52 old adults with extensive practice on consistently and varied versions of a memory search task and a noun pair look-up task (Ackerman and Woltz, 1993). Only consistent practice allows associative learning because the stimulus items are consistently paired; in varied practice, item pairings change across practice and associative learning is not possible. We also assessed a wide range of abilities for each subject and were thus able to investigate ability-performance relationships across practice conditions and across age groups. These relationships provide an indication of the underlying abilities related to task performance (Ackerman, 1988). The mean data suggested that both young and old adults demonstrated successful associative learning in the two CM tasks. The individual differences data suggest, however, that different abilities may be driving performance across the two age groups. These data have important implications for predicting whether or not older adults will successfully acquire a new skill. If the target skill requires associative learning, older adults, may perform as efficiently as young adults if they are provided with sufficient, consistent practice. The ability-performance data suggest that predictions about which individuals will be most successful at skills requiring associative learning, may be dependent on the age of the target population.

AbstractChicken astroviruses (CAstV) are enteric viruses of poultry causing gastroenteritis, malabsorption, gout and white chick disease commonly known as runting-stunting syndrome (RSS). It can affect the wide range of poultry birds, especially chicken, turkey and duck worldwide. To our best knowledge there is no published report on presence of antibodies against CAstV in Bangladesh. Therefore, the study aimed to detect the presence of CAstV antibodies in broilers and sonali chickens (a cross-bread) in Bangladesh through a cross-sectional survey. A total of 454 blood samples from 66 flocks of broiler (n=343) and sonali chickens (n=111) of different ages were obtained during 2017 from four districts. The birds were healthy but were not vaccinated against CAstV. The samples were tested for specific antibodies against CAstV Group B by using commercially available ELISA kit. Overall, 16.74% (76/454) samples and 34.84% (23/66) flocks were positive for CAstV antibodies. The seroprevalence of CAstV was significantly (p=0.001) higher in sonali chickens (36.96%) than broiler (10.20%), while it was significantly higher (p=0.001) in birds of Bogura district (36.94%) than the other three districts. Regarding the age groups, seroprevalence was insignificantly (p=0.192) higher in sonali chicken before laying age (45%) than during laying age (27.45%). Regarding the seasons, CAstV infection was prevalent significantly (p=0.001) higher in winter season. Thus, the present study indicated the presence of CAstV in poultry in Bangladesh, so further studies are required to find out the magnitude of the problem in the country.

The existing legislation determines the education as "an integral and focused process of teaching and upbringing, which represents a socially important value and shall be implemented so as to meet the interests of the individual, the family, the society and the state". However, even in this part, the meaning of the notion ‘socially significant benefit is not specified and allows for a wide range of interpretation [2]. Yet the more inconcrete is the answer to the question – "who and how should determine the interests of the individual, the family and even the state?" The national doctrine of education in the Russian Federation, which determined the goals of teaching and upbringing, the ways to attain them by means of the state policy regulating the field of education, the target achievements of the development of the educational system for the period up to 2025, approved by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of October 4, 2000 #751, was abrogated by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of March 29, 2014 #245 [7]. The new doctrine has not been developed so far. The RAE Academician A.B. Khutorsky believes that the absence of the national doctrine of education presents a threat to national security and a violation of the right of citizens to quality education. Accordingly, the teacher has to solve the problem of achieving the harmony of interests of the individual, the family, the society and the government on their own, which, however, judging by the officially published results, is the task that exceeds the abilities of the participants of the educational process.  The particular concern about the results of the patriotic upbringing served as a basis for the legislative initiative of the RF President V. V. Putin, who introduced the project of an amendment to the Law of RF "About Education of the Russian Federation" to the State Duma in 2020, regarding the quality of patriotic upbringing [3]. Patriotism, considered by the President of RF V. V. Putin as the only possible idea to unite the nation is "THE FEELING OF LOVE OF THE MOTHERLAND" and the readiness for every sacrifice and heroic deed for the sake of the interests of your Motherland. However, the practicing educators experience shortfalls in efficient methodologies of patriotic upbringing, which should let them bring up citizens, loving their Motherland more than themselves. The article is dedicated to solution to this problem based on the Value-sense paradigm of upbringing educational dynasty of the Kurbatovs [15].

Background: In the past decades, handwritten character recognition has received considerable attention from researchers across the globe because of its wide range of applications in daily life. From the literature, it has been observed that there is limited study on various handwritten Indian scripts and Odia is one of them. We revised some of the patents relating to handwritten character recognition. Methods: This paper deals with the development of an automatic recognition system for offline handwritten Odia character recognition. In this case, prior to feature extraction from images, preprocessing has been done on the character images. For feature extraction, first the gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) is computed from all the sub-bands of two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform (2D DWT) and thereafter, feature descriptors such as energy, entropy, correlation, homogeneity, and contrast are calculated from GLCMs which are termed as the primary feature vector. In order to further reduce the feature space and generate more relevant features, principal component analysis (PCA) has been employed. Because of the several salient features of random forest (RF) and K- nearest neighbor (K-NN), they have become a significant choice in pattern classification tasks and therefore, both RF and K-NN are separately applied in this study for segregation of character images. Results: All the experiments were performed on a system having specification as windows 8, 64-bit operating system, and Intel (R) i7 – 4770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz. Simulations were conducted through Matlab2014a on a standard database named as NIT Rourkela Odia Database. Conclusion: The proposed system has been validated on a standard database. The simulation results based on 10-fold cross-validation scenario demonstrate that the proposed system earns better accuracy than the existing methods while requiring least number of features. The recognition rate using RF and K-NN classifier is found to be 94.6% and 96.4% respectively.

Numerous claims have been made by a wide range of commentators that punk is somehow “a folk music” of some kind. Doubtless there are several continuities. Indeed, both tend to encourage amateur music-making, both often have affiliations with the Left, and both emerge at least partly from a collective/anti-competitive approach to music-making. However, there are also significant tensions between punk and folk as ideas/ideals and as applied in practice. Most obviously, punk makes claims to a “year zero” creativity (despite inevitably offering re-presentation of at least some existing elements in every instance), whereas folk music is supposed to carry forward a tradition (which, thankfully, is more recognized in recent decades as a subject-to-change “living tradition” than was the case in folk’s more purist periods). Politically, meanwhile, postwar folk has tended more toward a socialist and/or Marxist orientation, both in the US and UK, whereas punk has at least rhetorically claimed to be in favor of “anarchy” (in the UK, in particular). Collective creativity and competitive tendencies also differ between the two (perceived) genre areas. Although the folk scene’s “floor singer” tradition offers a dispersal of expressive opportunity comparable in some ways to the “anyone can do it” idea that gets associated with punk, the creative expectation of the individual within the group differs between the two. Punk has some similarities to folk, then, but there are tensions, too, and these are well worth examining if one is serious about testing out the common claim, in both folk and punk, that “anyone can do it.”

AbstractThe aim of this study was to examine the validity of the Gender Dysphoria (GD) diagnoses in the Swedish National Patient Register (NPR), to discuss different register-based definitions of GD and to investigate incidence trends. We collected data on all individuals with registered GD diagnoses between 2001 and 2016 as well as data on the coverage in the NPR. We regarded gender confirming medical intervention (GCMI) as one proxy for a clinically valid diagnosis and calculated the positive predictive value (PPV) for receiving GCMI for increasing number of registered GD diagnoses. We assessed crude and coverage-adjusted time trends of GD during 2004–2015 with a Poisson regression, using assigned sex and age as interaction terms. The PPV for receiving GCMI was 68% for ≥ 1 and 79% for ≥ 4 GD-diagnoses. The incidence of GD was on average 35% higher with the definition of ≥ 1 compared to the definition of ≥ 4 diagnoses. The incidence of GD, defined as ≥ 4 diagnoses increased significantly during the study period and mostly in the age categories 10–17 and 18–30 years, even after adjusting for register coverage. We concluded that the validity of a single ICD code denoting clinical GD in the Swedish NPR can be questioned. For future research, we propose to carefully weight the advantages and disadvantages of different register-based definitions according to the individual study’s needs, the time periods involved and the age-groups under study.

The AP2/EREBP family transcription factors play important roles in a wide range of stress tolerance and hormone signaling. In this study, a heat-inducible rice ERF gene was isolated and functionally characterized. The OsERF115/AP2EREBP110 was categorized to Group-IIIc of the rice AP2/EREBP family and strongly induced by heat and drought treatment. The OsERF115/AP2EREBP110 protein targeted to nuclei and suppressed the ABA-induced transcriptional activation of Rab16A promoter in rice protoplasts. Overexpression of OsERF115/AP2EREBP110 enhanced thermotolerance of seeds and vegetative growth stage plants. The OsERF115/AP2EREBP110 overexpressing (OE) plants exhibited higher proline level and increased expression of a proline biosynthesis P5CS1 gene. Phenotyping of water use dynamics of the individual plant indicates that the OsERF115/AP2EREBP110-OE plant exhibited better water saving traits under heat and drought combined stress. Our combined results suggest the potential use of OsERF115/AP2EREBP110 as a candidate gene for genetic engineering approaches to develop heat and drought stress-tolerant crops.

We address the interplay of few lattice trapped bosons interacting with an impurity atom in a box potential. For the ground state, a classification is performed based on the fidelity allowing to quantify the susceptibility of the composite system to structural changes due to the intercomponent coupling. We analyze the overall response at the many-body level and contrast it to the single-particle level. By inspecting different entropy measures we capture the degree of entanglement and intraspecies correlations for a wide range of intra- and intercomponent interactions and lattice depths. We also spatially resolve the imprint of the entanglement on the one- and two-body density distributions showcasing that it accelerates the phase separation process or acts against spatial localization for repulsive and attractive intercomponent interactions, respectively. The many-body effects on the tunneling dynamics of the individual components, resulting from their counterflow, are also discussed. The tunneling period of the impurity is very sensitive to the value of the impurity-medium coupling due to its effective dressing by the few-body medium. Our work provides implications for engineering localized structures in correlated impurity settings using species selective optical potentials.

AbstractThis report surveys four approaches that are pivotal to the study of preference formation: (a) the range, validity, and theoretical foundations of explanations of political preferences at the individual and mass levels, (b) the exploration of key objects of preference formation attached to the democratic political process (i.e., voting in competitive elections), (c) the top-down vs. bottom-up character of preference formation as addressed in leader–follower studies, and (d) gene–environment interaction and the explanatory weight of genetic predisposition against the cumulative weight of social experiences.In recent years, our understanding of sites and processes of (individual) political-preference formation has substantially improved. First, this applies to a greater variety of objects that provide fresh insight into the functioning and stability of contemporary democracy. Second, we observe the reaffirmation of pivotal theories and key concepts in adapted form against widespread challenge. This applies to the role played by social stratification, group awareness, and individual-level economic considerations. Most of these findings converge in recognising economics-based explanations. Third, research into gene–environment interplay rapidly increases the number of testable hypotheses and promises to benefit a wide range of approaches already taken and advanced in the study of political-preference formation.
