Education is the need of every human being. Education is useful for developing self-potential. One form of education in Indonesia is the education of Islamic boarding schools as known as Pondok pesantren. Pondok Pesantren does not only teach education at schools in general but also integrate the knowledge of Islam religion in the education system. Nowadays, the condition of young Muslims is very alarming due to the inability to face the flow of globalization and thus losing its Muslim identity. As a result, there is a moral decline that leads to deviant behavior, especially concerning Islamic values. To overcome this problem, Pondok Pesantren education can be a solution. In this study two samples of famous Pondok Pesantren in Indonesia were taken, namely Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor and Pondok Pesantren Sidogiri. We use literature study methods from various journals that discuss the importance of Pondok Pesantren. As a step to deepen the material, an interview was held with an Ustadz (Islamic religious teacher) who had conducted research at various Pondok pesantren in Indonesia. The results of this study obtained 3 values and teaching lifestyles that can be applied from Pondok Pesantren, namely the formation of identity, sensitivity to society, and efforts to make changes in society without losing identity. The two Pondok Pesantren teaches the formation of a good identity to their santri (students of pesantren) so that they are not easily carried away by the negative effects of globalization. In addition, it also teaches how to behave socially in the community so that they can apply the knowledge gained in Pondok Pesantren and become agents of change in people's lives. Thus, the education system of Pondok Pesantren can be used as a means of forming the identity of young Muslims as a provision to face the current of globalization.

This article, resulting from theoretical review and reflection, answers the question that every education professional should ask themselves: what human being is to be trained for what society. If our ambition is for a fairer and more humane society, a convivial society made up of free and emancipated subjects, which is the approach of this work, there is a need to train teachers, from critical pedagogy, as agents of change or transformative intellectuals so that they help towards the development of democratic schools. That is to say, teachers who shape a counterhegemonic curriculum in the context of a participatory organisation in collaboration with the community, authorities and sociopolitical movements.

This article aims to point out the role of metamorphosis in Anglo- Saxon ballads, Albanian ballads and frontier warrior songs. The Anglo- Saxon ballads and Albanian frontier warrior songs and ballads came into existence a long time ago and they had a certain number of influences which as a result had their great impact on their creation, development and circumstances when and where they were composed. They were created as a consequence of some special historical, cultural and social development. It has to be emphasized that those influences were of different character and size such as human, non-human or divine ones and the compositions of songs or ballads were inspired and conditioned by a lot of circumstances. Metamorphosis is used to express that never- ending process and of course it is transforming. The changes are either positive or negative and consequently people may perceive different good or bad feelings. It is related to the magic world and the unrealistic one and sometimes it is a beautiful feeling when a human being transforms into a rose and showing a form of life continuation after death but in many cases it transforms into a non-desirable object or animal. It is a quick transformation from one thing to another and it may have either positive or negative effects on the audience.

This article is an extract from my dissertation which offers a historiography of the Dayah, Aceh’s traditional institution of Islamic education and picks up at the point of Aceh’s history where its Dutch colonial experience began. The section presented here details some of the theological, philosophical and political factors that contributed to the development of the regions current variety of educational institutions. However, despite the effects of such historical and ongoing developments, that continue to inform the theological understanding and social concerns of Aceh’s ulama, the Dayah still manages to represent a distinct Muslim identity that express the richest cultural heritages of the region within an orthodox religious framework. Therefore, the Dayah of Aceh continues the traditional Islamic educational experience for the Muslims of the region despite the historical and ongoing influence of cultural, political and social developments.

Fear and suspicion towards Islam and Muslims have become increasingly prominent in the public debate. This represents a challenge for Muslim youth in their efforts to develop a positive religious identity. The point of departure in this article is how the new, Islamic pop industry, here represented by a selection of music and artists from Awakening Records, has responded to this situation by producing religious music specifically aimed at European/Western youth. The article analyses how musical genre, texts, images and videos work together and thematizes Muslim identity and Islamic values in different ways.  It is suggested that this material may serve as resources for the identity management of young European Muslims by offering alternative, positive narratives about Islam.

the basic principles of Islamic boarding school education, namely; Al Muhafadhah ala al-qadim al shalih wa al akhdzu bi al jadid al ashlah. This principle has encouraged pesantren to maintain good old Islamic values without denying better changes. This paper intends to explore two sides of the coin for Pondok Persantren where one side is a distinct advantage for but can be a boomerang that hinders the progress of Islamic education based on understanding the basic elements and values of Islamic boarding schools and, then contributing thoughts in building a holistic Islamic boarding school education so that can follow the development of science without losing the obligation to maintain basic values. Holistic pesantren education can only be achieved if it is reaffirmed that the elements of the boarding school education system are not oriented towards learning religious knowledge but how kyai, teachers / ustaz and santri can learn to live in religion.
