Fall-related serious injuries pose risks to patients and healthcare organizations. This retrospective, single-hospital study used a 38 variable instrument to understand characteristics of those who sustained a fall with serious injury. Analyses included descriptive statistics, frequency, and Chi-square tests of associations between key variables and outcomes of moderate versus major injury. Age range 25–91 years, predominantly 60–69 years (23.3%), and mostly male (50.9%). Highest percentage occurred between 0:00 and 06:59 (39.6%), and on Oncology service (28.3%). Fallers were in the room, (81.1%), sustained major injury (73.6%), fractured a major bone (43.4%), had altered mobility prior to the fall (67.9%), and had received at least one narcotic dose within 24 hours before the fall (43.2%). The associations between injury severity and age, gender, altered mobility, fall risk assessment pre-fall, and unit service line are not statistically significant, however have small-to-moderate clinical significance. This study adds to the literature in identifying characteristics of patients who sustain a fall-related serious injury.

Eating food is one of the most important needs of every person, so their safety and quality should be crucial for everyone. People expect, that food they eat is hygienically and health safe. Unfortunately, people usually start to focus on food safety only when various food scandals are exposed and it is too late. Mass consumption of food is the cause of a high risk to human health, but only in the case of harmful food. Food-borne diseases are a common and widespread phenomenon in all parts of the world, regardless of the economic development of the country. Protection of human, animal and plant health is one of the main economic priorities of each country. The political objective of the European Union is therefore to ensure that European Union citizens have access to safe and nutritious foods, so it must meet strict safety standards. In ensuring food safety, it is necessary to take into account all aspects of the food production chain as a whole, because each subject can have a potential impact on food safety. This paper deals with the issues of food safety and food quality. The main objective was to find out how consumers perceive higher quality food and whether they read information included on the food packaging. Primary data were obtained from a survey that was conducted on the sample of 478 respondents living in Slovakia. For a deeper analysis, several assumptions, which were verified by Friedman Test, Chi-Square Test of Independence, Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, were formulated. The survey has found out that 84% of respondents buy higher quality food and 60% purchase them because of health-related reasons. More than half of respondents search for the information about food safety on the Internet and the same percentage considere government as the most reliable source of information about food safety. Unfortunately, just more than one quarter of them read the information on food label and for 34% is this information unsufficient.

Objective: This study aims to examine routine day-to-day suicide reporting in the Canadian media, giving a descriptive overview of the tone and content of news articles. The primary objective is to assess adherence to responsible reporting of suicide recommendations in news articles about suicide. A secondary objective is to categorize these articles according to their focus. A tertiary objective is to compare guideline adherence across the different categories of articles. Methods: We collected news articles containing the keyword “suicide” from 47 Canadian news sources between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2020. Articles were read and coded for their adherence to responsible reporting of suicide recommendations. Articles were also allotted into categories according to their focus and primary suicide discussed. Frequency counts and percentages of adherence were calculated for all key variables—both overall and by category of article. Chi-square tests were also conducted to assess for variations in adherence by category of article. Results: The procedures resulted in 1,330 coded articles. On the one hand, there was high overall adherence to several recommendations. For example, over 80% of articles did not give a monocausal explanation, glamourize the death, appear on the front page, include sensational language, or use discouraged words. On the other hand, there was low adherence to other recommendations, especially those related to putatively protective content. For example, less than 25% included help-seeking information, quoted an expert, or included educational content. Cross-category analysis indicated that articles about events/policies/research and Indigenous people had the highest proportions of adherence, while articles about murder-suicide and high-profile suicides had the lowest adherence. Conclusions: While a substantial proportion of articles generally adhere to suicide reporting recommendations, several guidelines are frequently underapplied, especially those concerning putatively helpful content. This indicates room for improvement in the responsible reporting of suicide.

Background: Food insecurity exists when people are undernourished due to the physical unavailability of food, lack of social or economic access to adequate food, and inadequate food utilization. As per FAO, India is home to 25% of world’s hungry population and 194.6 million undernourished people for the period of 2014-2016. The objectives were to assess the food insecurity and determine its correlates in a rural community of Karnataka. Methods: A cross sectional study was undertaken to assess food insecurity and its correlates in households of a rural community of Karnataka using the “Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS) for measurement of food access: Version 3” questionnaire during December 2014. The data collected was analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 and mean, proportion and chi-square were calculated as appropriate. Results: The average HFIAS score was as low as 4.15. 80.8% of the 52 households were food insecure, of which 17.3% were mildly insecure, 48.1% were moderately insecure and 15.4% were severely food insecure. Conclusions: With 80.8% food insecurity in the rural agriculture-based community, there is a need for improvements in stability, accessibility and utilization of available food through use of fair price shops and garden kitchen promotion.

Abstract BackgroundOur study aims to fill the vacancy of litigation studies related to trigeminal neuralgia management, and to give healthcare providers the necessary information needed to better understand the potential litigious outcomes that often follow certain treatment methods.MethodsWe queried the Westlaw Edge legal database to identify litigation cases related to the management of trigeminal neuralgia for the years 1985-2019 using the following search criteria: (trigeminal & neuralgia), (tic & douloureux) and (microvascular & decompression). Key variables extracted included the following: plaintiff medical complaints, trial outcome, payout, and demographic characteristics. Continuous variables were compared between cases in favor of defendant and cases in favor of plaintiff using t-test or Wilcoxon rank sum test. Categorical variables were compared using chi-square or Fischer’s exact test.Results49 cases met the inclusion criteria – for those cases surgical complication (42.9%) and failure to diagnose (32.7%) were cited as the most common alleged reasons for filing a malpractice claim. Cranial nerve deficits (34.7%) and loss of consortium (12.2%) were the most frequent post-operative complaints. Verdicts ruled in favor of the defendant in 61.2% of cases, and for the plaintiff in 26.5% of cases with a mean payout of $1,982,428.46. Dental specialists were included in the most cases, 63.3%, and the average payout was $415,908, while Neurosurgical specialists were involved in 20.4% of cases with an average payout of $618,775. Cases where the verdict was in favor of the plaintiff were more likely to be older than cases with a verdict in favor of the defendant (p=0.03). ConclusionsOver one-half of the cases resulted in a defendant’s verdict with surgical complications cited as the most common reason for litigation. Dentistry and neurosurgery were listed as the most common individual physician specialties for defendants, also contributing to the largest average payouts based on specialty (for specialties > 1 occurrence). Cranial nerve deficits and loss of consortium were the most common plaintiff post-operative complaints. A key implication of this study is the need for more extensive discussions between physician and patient regarding informed consent, especially when neurosurgical interventions are required.

Through an empirical and theoretical analysis, the study will demonstrate the relationship existing between the leadership style and organizational effectiveness, taking into account that the leadership model explored in this study will be the model provided by Bass and Avolio (1994), represented by the transactional, transformational and laissez-faire style. Impact and behavior of each style on the employees’ motivation, increase of the business organization revenues and finally on the enhancement of organizational effectiveness. The research methodology selected for this study is the quantitative one, where a number of about 450 employees in the secondary banking system in Albania are planned to be interviewed. The measuring instrument will be divided in 4 sections and after data collection, the variable analysis will be realized via SPSS program, which enables the implementation of ANOVA test, Chi-square (χ2), means, standard deviations, frequencies and correlations between the key variables to prove the study hypothesis. Finally, this scientific study will be closed with the relevant conclusions and recommendations.
