The article analyzes the influence of Germans and the German language in Ukraine on Ukrainian culture, language and literature. It traces the stages of replenishment of the Ukrainian vocabulary with German vocabulary. German-speaking writers also made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian literature. German remains one of the leading foreign languages in Ukraine. Preservation of German (German-speaking) cultural heritage in Ukraine and its study can serve as an example for the promotion of other languages and cultures. The article presents a modified three- level model of possible relations between different cultures proposed by W. Welsh. There have been outlined multicultural, intercultural and transcultural aspects of such relations. In Ukraine, it is formed by the coexistence of different in content and forms ethnic cultures (multicultural aspect), which, despite the differences, under the pressure of social, socioeconomic factors interact (intercultural aspect). In addition, there is another dimension - transcultural, which involves not so much mixing elements of different cultures and eliminating the boundaries between national cultures, as the possibility of the existence of a certain culture not only within individual national entities, but also adopting transcultural elements. In particular, it allows into consideration as part of the Ukrainian cultural heritage the works of all those artists who, due to various life circumstances, were forced to leave their home country and create abroad still being part of its culture.

The article deals with the system of views of the famous researcher of German and Slavs literature L. Rudnitsky. The author conducts studies with a focus on neo-views of authoritative international scholars in the context of comparative literature, with an examination of monographic studies of Rudnitsky on Ivan Franko’s work – the famous Ukrainian critic, ethnographer, literary critic, man of letters. L. Rudnitsky’s focus is on Franko as on the translator and popularizer of the works of German and Western literature, in particular, Lessing, Schiller, Goethe, etc. The author pays special attention to the contact- genetic and comparative-typological relations with the German language and literature. The contextual links of language and literature with the art of that time, which is considered in the context of the world cultural space are also described. In Rudnitsky’s monographs Ivan Franko and the German-speaking world: the importance of the environment for the poet’s creativity and the German language and literature in the works of Ivan Franko, the concept of the research space of the French translator at that time is observed. In confirmation of the importance of Rudnitsky’s work, the author uses the views of diaspora literary critics, such as I. Denisyuk, I. Kachurovsky, etc., who noted the work as a significant contribution and breakthrough in the study of the work of the outstanding Ukrainian artist I. Franko in the context of his translation activities. Through citational intertextuality, the author proves the contribution of Rudnitsky in the analysis of the works of Franco in a new generally-European perspective. The author emphasizes the deep meaningfulness of L. Rudnitsky’s translations conducted by I. Franko from the oldest German written notes, emphasizes the skill of the Camener in the transfer of the features of the old German language. We also see a comparative aspect in literary studies, which is dominant in our approach to the study of Franco’s translation activity. Valuable in research observations of L. Rudnitsky about Franco as a translator and popularizer of the works of German literature is his desire to expand the “German-speaking world”, which is confirmed by our in-depth analysis of the works of Rudnitsky and authoritative reviews on them. It is proved that for many years there was created an original concept of the study of German literature through the works of L. Rudnitsky – American talented literary critic of Ukrainian origin.

The paper presents a modified three-level model of possible relations between different cultures proposed by W. Welsh. There have been outlined multicultural, intercultural and transcultural aspects of such relations. The model is exemplified by the translations of Bohdan Kravtsiv. Life circumstances forced Kravtsiv to leave Ukraine and spend his life abroad. He had to work on his translations in different countries and cultures. Just like other cultures influenced his way of thinking, life experience and poetic creativity, due to his political, social, poetic, and translation activities, he himself influenced the cultures he was immersed in and where he was involved in the creative activity. Remoteness from Ukraine did not make the poet and translator break off his relations with his home country. In the Diaspora he did his best to help Ukrainians, replenish the poetic translations of the Ukrainian literature, retain memories of the repressed poets, enrich Ukrainian cultural heritage (transcultural aspect). The language personality of Bohdan Kravtsiv as a translator is considered in terms of his translations of Rainer Maria Rilke's poetry. The structure of the language personality of the translator encompasses verbal, cognitive and pragmatic-motivational levels. The paper focuses on the analysis of Kravtsiv’s translations of Rilke's poems into Ukrainian. It has revealed Kravtsiv’s brilliant mastery of the poetic word. The translations of Rilke's poems performed by Kravtsiv testify to the translator's efforts to remain faithful to the form and content of the original. In spite of the different morphological and phonetic structures of German and Ukrainian, he succeeded in most cases. The translator’s individual style is marked by concise and euphonious translations, multiple new coinages and in-depth knowledge of the original works.

The number of projects dedicated to the digitization of newspaper collections in libraries and archives has risen continuously in recent years. The main focus is on securing German-language press inventory outside of the German-speaking area, which often cannot be copied due to the aging process, and – with a view to developments, cross-connections and research approaches – making them available for broad use for future independent investigations. Through various funding programs, the ministries responsible for education and research and national research infrastructures also work to keep this cultural heritage alive, to digitize it on a larger scale, to develop it and to make it internationally accessible. The article therefore shows some of the noteworthy newspapers and magazines of the German minority in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe and some efforts for documentation of the German minority press in this region.

The purpose of this article is to explore the role of the ELP in teaching language skills to students of foreign languages, in my professional situation – to German Language and Literature students. The article attempts to answer the following questions: To what extent do the ELP and the Council of Europe documents help students of foreign languages use self-evaluation? How do these documents support learner autonomy? Due to the growing interest in the ELP, I focused my attention on the use of self-evaluation skills by college students during their writing tasks. The article presents the results of a study on self-evaluation. It was carried out among first and second year students of German Language and Literature Studies at the State Higher Education College in Włocławek in the academic years 2005/2006 and 2006/2007.

Active European integration processes in the state, education and business determine relevance of the study. They pay special attention to the discipline «Foreign language for specific purposes» in the training of agricultural specialists. The purpose of this study is to consider the scientific and methodical aspects of formation of readiness for German-language professionally oriented communication among future agriculturists. Theoretical (analysis, systematization, generalization, modeling) and empirical methods were used to achieve this goal. They allowed to analyze the latest scientific research in the field of foreign language training, problems of readiness for foreign language communication, features of foreign language professionally oriented communication of agro-industrial enterprises` specialists. The analysis of the professional requirements for future farmers, scientific approaches to interpretation of the concept «readiness», modern concepts of foreign language teaching methods gave grounds to specify the concept of readiness for German-speaking professionally oriented communication of agriculturists, which is seen as the competence to use acquired knowledge, ability and skills for successful German-speaking professionally oriented communication. Analysis of the national experience of foreign language training of agricultural sector specialists shows that the main purpose of foreign languages studying in higher educational establishments is the training a specialist who can use the German language as a tool of professional activity and professional knowledge. In order to achieve this goal it is necessary to develop the linguistic, social-cultural, educational and professional components of German-speaking professionally oriented communicative competence. Communication is an integral part of the professional activities of specialists. It is based on general social and psychological patterns and focuses on the successful and effective implementation of professional duties, and includes the exchange of proposals, requirements, views, motives to solve specific problems, sign agreements or establish other relations between the subjects of joint activities. German-language professionally oriented communication has its linguistic features, namely: lexical (terms, scientific and technical phraseology, professionalism, jargon, abbreviations and acronyms), grammatical (nominal style, modal verbs, passive voice, sentence length) and stylistic (metaphor, comparison and epithets). According to the fundamental bases of foreign language training the model of formation of readiness for German-language professionally oriented communication among future agriculturists is proposed, based on the peculiarities of teaching foreign languages in agricultural universities and the specificity of professionally oriented communication of specialists in the agricultural sector. It consists of the following blocks: motivational-target, theoretical-methodological, content-technological and productive-estimated. The effectiveness of the model depends on such factors as: the organization of the appropriate language environment, modeling of professional situations in the classroom and increase motivation for professionally oriented communication. The results of the study are to determine the place of formation of readiness for foreign language communication in the professional education of future farmers, to determine the linguistic features of German-language communication of agronomists, to substantiate the organizational and pedagogical conditions of German-language training and create an appropriate model. The formation of readiness for professionally oriented communication in a foreign language is a systematic, long-term process that involves the development of traditional professional ideas, professional thinking and professional behavior.

The global competition on the tourist market and the internationalization of the tourist industry intensify the need for language learning. Knowledge of foreign languages is the most important prerequisite of the quality service in the tourist industry. The structure of foreign guests in Croatia classified by emitting countries proves that the part of the German speaking guests in comparison with other language communities is the most prominent one, so that German is the most important foreign language for the communication in Croatian tourism. Although its learning in Croatian educational institutions compared to English has been neglected, it has been learnt by all pupils in vocational schools for hotel and tourism industry. In Croatian tourism English as the language of the global communication can not satisfy all communication needs in tourism.

Communication skills present one of the most important components of the quality service in the tourism industry. They are based on the knowledge of foreign languages which is the most important prerequisite for satisfying the guests’ needs. The structure of foreign guests in Croatia classified by emitting countries proves that the part o f the German speaking guests in comparison with other language communities is the most prominent one, so that we can conclude that German is the foreign language number one in Croatian tourism. Within our research the questionnaire was carried out among German guests on holiday in Opatija with the main topic: quality service referring to the communication in German with hotel staff. The results of the performed questionnaire provide very important guidelines for the special appreciation of German language and of course its further improvement which is at the same time a very important contribution to the quality of the tourist product.

The article deals with the study of specific features of smart-technologies use while studying the German language by would-be foreign languages teachers. It is stated that the use of Internet technologies promotes the higher education applicants’ motivation and cognitive activity, their desire to study foreign languages, provides studying intensification and individualization. Having analysed scientific literature and relying on the personal experience, the author analysed specific features, opportunities and prospects for smart-technologies use in the vocational training of would-be German teachers. Smart education is proved to provoke flexibility, a long list of literature, a variety of multimedia, the ability to perform a quick and easy adaptation to the student’s level and necessities. The education also causes active experience and idea-sharing, course personification, the time saving to modify the existing educational content instead of its primary formation. The fact that smart technologies are characterized by flexibility, individualization, interactivity, multimedia use of the educational process is predominated. It promotes the combined implementation of individual and group lessons. The article justifies the fact that smart-technologies use while studying the German language helps to solve a number of educational tasks: the formation of listening comprehension, reading, writing, advanced vocabulary skills and abilities. It also stimulates the higher education applicants’ formation of firm motivation to study the German language. The following educational sites are used by Uman State Pedagogical University applicants of the educational programme ‘Secondary education. The English language and literature, the German language and literature while studying the German language are analysed: Rosetta stone, Deutsche Welle, Deutschlernerblog, YouTube-channel “Easy German”, the online newspaper ‘Zeit online’. The methodology to work with the audio texts on the site “Deutsche Welle” is described. The main advantages of smart technologies implementation while the German language teaching are outlined. Abstract. The individual attitudes of every single team member are important for team performance. Studies show that each team member’s collective orientation – that is, propensity to work in a collective manner in team settings – enhances the team’s interdependent teamwork. In the German-speaking countries, there was previously no instrument to measure collective orientation. So, I developed and validated a German-language instrument to measure collective orientation. In three studies (N = 1028), I tested the validity of the instrument in terms of its internal structure and relationships with other variables. The results confirm the reliability and validity of the instrument. The instrument also predicts team performance in terms of interdependent teamwork. I discuss differences in established individual variables in team research and the role of collective orientation in teams. In future research, the instrument can be applied to diagnose teamwork deficiencies and evaluate interventions for developing team members’ collective orientation.

Ukraine is the motherland of not only Ukrainians but also of many national minorities with different cultures and traditions. Ukraine is a Christian country in general, with non-Christian and non-Christian religions and confessional currents, along with traditional churches - Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant - rooted and actively developing non-traditional Ukrainian culture and spirituality. In Ukraine there is a complex process of spiritual revival, especially in the intellectual environment. Many are written and talk about the preservation of cultural heritage. Everywhere, monuments of architecture, art, which testify to the generally recognized historical contribution of Christianity to the development of spirituality and morality of the Ukrainian people, are restored. In our eyes, there are changes in social and religious relations.
