The World Flora Online initiative (www.worldfloraonline.org) is a global consortium of many of the world’s leading botanical institutions with the aim to offer a worldwide information resource for plant information (Miller 2019). It aggregates information provided by the botanical community, either through specialized information systems or published taxonomic treatments and floras. WFO distinguishes contributions to the Taxonomic Backbone (i.e. the community-curated consensus system of scientific names, taxa, synonyms and their classification) from Content contributions (i.e. descriptive data, images, distribution, etc.). In the course of writing the guidelines for contributors, a format for the electronic submission of these data had to be developed. The expectation was that this would be a comparatively simple task, drawing on existing TDWG standards and using established formats and tools, i.e. Darwin Core Archive, the Integrated Publishing Toolkit and the DwC-A Validator tool. Actually, it was not that simple, as several problems had to be solved. First of all it was somewhat difficult to find authoritative sources on the web for existing data definitions. That solved, the actual definitions were, in some cases not really adequate for use by the botanical community, or a narrower description had to be given, or our portal software (based on the eMonocot portal system developed by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) required a different controlled vocabulary. A decision was taken to follow the DwC naming conventions for data elements, although in some cases the designations - or at least the applications in a checklist context - were patently wrong (e.g. “taxonID” as the identifier for names, including synonyms). For Content contributions, the DwC-A standard star schema was useful, but it was not appropriate for backbone contributions with their multiple relationships e.g., to literature references. This experience underlines the necessity for a coherent documentation of standards (see Blum et al. (2019)), including user-friendly access to definitions, data validation tools and clear guidelines for extensions/subtyping also at the element-level.

Budget 4G smart phones coupled with affordable plans, can very well drive 4G growth in India.

Thousands of languages are currently in danger of extinction without having been adequately documented by linguists. This fact represents a tragedy for communities in which endangered languages are spoken, for linguistics as a discipline and for all of humanity. One major role of the field of linguistics is to describe languages accurately and thoroughly for the benefit of all concerned. This paper presents the results of an informal survey of major users of grammatical descriptions and gives lists of dos and don’ts for those contemplating a descriptive study of one of the many endangered languages of the world. Concrete suggestions are provided that will help grammar writers produce user-friendly, thorough and useful grammatical descriptions.

This article analyses Camille Henrot’s 2013 film Grosse Fatigue in relation to the histories of hypermedia and modes of interaction with the World Wide Web. It considers the development of non-hierarchical systems for the organisation of information, and uses Grosse Fatigue to draw comparisons between the Web, the natural history museum and the archive. At stake in focusing on the way in which information is organised through hypermedia is the question of subjectivity, and this article argues that such systems are made ‘user-friendly’ by appearing to accommodate intuitive processes of information retrieval, reflecting the subject back to itself as autonomous. This produces an ideology of individualism which belies the forms of heteronomy that in fact shape and structure access to information online in significant ways. At the heart of this argument is an attention to the visual, and the significance of art as an immanent mode of analysis. Through the themes of transparency and opacity, and order and chaos, the article thus proposes a defining dynamic between autonomy and automation as a model for understanding the contemporary subject.

The availability of new mobile devices (tablets and smartphones) equipped with many sensors is changing or, better, enriching the way we monitor and sense the world that surrounds us. The internet has permeated completely not only our scientific and technological development, but also our life. Only some years ago, we used geospatial data and GIS software installed within our computers. Nowadays, data and operators are provided via the net by means of distributed and shared geo-services and a simple and powerless mobile device is enough to connect them. The possibility of interaction has become not only faster and more user friendly but also active, being individuals and communities free of adding, deleting, and changing contents in real time in the new GeoWeb2.0. This chapter explores GeoWeb2.0.

Distance-learning has become widespread around the world. Many training areas such as engineering require the acquisition of practical rather than theoretical knowledge. In this paper, a framework is presented in the form of four pilot projects which is used for practical laboratory measurements in a distance-learning environment. Four demonstration devices consisting of an induction motor drivetrain, a magnetorheological clutch as well as a rolling resistance and an ultrasonicsensor were built and several examples of measurements presented.The system, based on accessible and user-friendly hardware, is cost-effective, simple to program and can be adapted to suit any application.

One of the most important tasks of a librarian is the assignment of appropriate subject(s) to a resource within a library’s collection. The subjects usually belong to a controlled vocabulary that is specifically designed for such a task. The most widely adopted controlled vocabulary across libraries around the world is the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). However, there seems to be a shifting from traditional LCSH to modern thesauri. In this paper, a methodology is proposed, capable of incorporating thesauri into existing LCSH-based Information Retrieval–IR systems. In order to achieve this, a mapping methodology is proposed capable of providing a common structure consisting of terms belonging to LCSH and/or a thesaurus. The structure is modeled as a Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS) ontology, which can be employed by appropriate subject-based IR systems. As a proof of concept, the proposed methodology is applied to the DSpace-based University of Piraeus digital library.

All over the world, drugs and drug applications have to be submitted to and approved by an admission office before they may be sold on the market. All procedures are extensive, time-consuming, and costly. To simplify the process, it could be organised electronically. In an economic perspective, there are many benefits by using the electronic form for the pharmaceutical industry: managing knowledge, cost advantages, and time savings. All, pharmaceutical industry and institutions have undertaken lots of efforts to enforce the electronic solutions. They focus on international standards in order to harmonise structures and processes. It would be necessary to reduce paper and copies, especially if the electronic solution takes place. This method will simplify the way to deal with data and documents and reduce process time and costs.

Pertumbuhan akses informasi pada saat sekarang ini berjalan secara pesat. Masyarakat atau user untuk mendapatkan data atau informasi yang akurat, aktual, serta cepat dan mudah sekarang bukanlah hal sulit. Perkembangan internet pada saat ini semakin pesat dan tidak dapat dipisahkan dari dunia pendidikan. Terdapatnya sistem informasi dan internet yang terus berkembang, maka diciptakan suatu cara penyampaian pendidikan secara elektronik dengan bantuan internet. Sistem informasi yang dimaksud pada saat sekarang lebih dikenal dengan istilah elektronik learning (e-learning). E-learning adalah suatu sistem informasi yang membantu pembelajaran manual menjadi pembelajaran secara elektronik. Pada dunia pendidikan untuk membantu dosen dan mahasiswa untuk memanajemen mata kuliah, saat sekarang ini terdapat Sistem Informasi Akademik yang lebih disingkat dengan SIA. SIA adalah suatu sistem informasi yang mengelola dan mengolah semua data-data akademik yang berada di bidang akademik. KRS online yang berada di SIA berhubungan erat dengan mata kuliah yang akan terisi pada e-learning. Dari pandangan kebutuhan tersebut, ada baiknya kedua sistem informasi tersebut digabungkan sehingga dengan user mengisi SIA, maka sistem e-learning yang berhubungan dengan mata kuliah yang diikuti akan terupdate dengan sendirinya dan perlu didesain sedemikian rupa agar kedua sistem informasi tersebut dapat berjalan dengan baik dan dapat digunakan oleh para user. Pendekatan ergonomis yang diperlukan untuk sistem tersebut adalah Human Computer Interaction (HCI) sehingga sistem yang dikembangkan akan nyaman, mudah dan aman digunakan oleh user atau dengan kata lain adalah user friendly. Jurnal ini disusun dengan tujuan untuk mengembangkan suatu sistem integrasi SIA dengan e-learning sehingga dapat membantu dan mempermudah aktifitas pembelajaran di Perguruan Tinggi.   ABSTRACT Growth of access to information at the present time is running fast. Public or the user to obtain data or information that is accurate, current, and a quick and easy right now is not difficult. The development of the Internet in today's increasingly rapidly and can not be separated from the world of education. Presence information systems and the Internet continues to grow, then created a way of delivering education electronically with the help of internet. The information system is at present better known as electronic learning (e-learning). E-learning is an information system that helps instructional manual to electronic learning. In the world of education to enable faculty and students to manage course, nowadays there are more Academic Information System shortened by SIA. SIA is an information system that manages and processes all the data of academic residing in the academic field. KRS SIA online that are closely related to the subjects that will be filled in e-learning. From the view of these needs, it helps both information systems are combined so that the user fills in SIA, the e-learning systems relating to subjects who follow will update itself and needs to be designed so that both the information system can run well and can used by the user. Ergonomic approach is needed for these systems is the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) so that the developed system will be convenient, easy and safe to use by the user, or in      other words is user friendly. These journals are intended to develop a system AIS integration with e-learning in order to assist and facilitate the activities of learning in Higher Education.

The emergence and effectiveness of communication interface in a colony of autonomous agents is discussed in this paper. The robotic agents sense the world within which they are embedded, while performing specific tasks in the world. Some of the tasks require the simultaneous cooperation of two robotic agents. These agents are able to sense other agents and communicate via simple, task-related messages. Using genetic algorithms, a colony of agents is evolved, producing agents with improved performance. It is shown that the tendency of the robotics agents to communicate increases through evolution, as the colony cooperates more, in order to perform more tasks. The concepts developed through computer simulation are tested for feasibility in a team of four small mobile-manipulator robots, each controlled autonomously via an on-board micro-processor.
