This paper reports from a study where teachers and researchers collaborate on designing and validatingtopic-oriented teaching-learning sequences. In an iterative process, data about learning andteaching biological evolution are generated through continuous cycles of design, teaching, evaluation, and redesign. The study involved 180 Swedish students aged 11 – 16, and the overall learning aim was that the students should be able to use the theory of evolution as a tool when explaining the development of life on earth. The aim of this paper is to validate the students’ learning outcome, estimated as appropriation of scientific ways of reasoning in written answers. The students’ answers of questions are analysed before and after interventions (internal evaluation), and compared with the answers from a national sample (external evaluation). The students in the experimental group did develop their reasoning, and they attained the aim, to a greater extent than a national sample.

The study aims to identify the effect of Needham’s Constructive Model on the achievement of the 2nd year intermediate students in Mathematics and their attitudes towards it. The researchers used the experimental design of partial control for the control and experimental groups. The study sample is 68 students, where the experimental group is 34 students, and the control group is (34) students. The researchers prepared two scales as achievement test, which include (30) multiple choice items. Items psychometric properties and statistical analysis have been got, and a scale of attitudes towards mathematics that includes (30) items with three alternatives. Items reliability, validity, discrimination coefficients are got. The two groups were rewarded in the variables of age and previous achievement in mathematics, IQ test and attitudes scale. After applying the experiment and the two study tools on the study sample, the results showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level (0.05) in favour of the experimental group in achievement and attitude towards mathematics. Key words: Needham’s model attitudes toword mathematics

Secondary analysis for quantitative data is a social research method traditionally employed for statistical analysis of administrative data. In the new digital society, this old research method that pre-existed the emergence of the new digital environment has been digitized to carry out its valuable activity in doing science. In this chapter, the secondary analysis for digitized data is illustrated. Thanks to the growing availability of datasets digitized on the web, the scholars of social well-being use the secondary analysis to inquiry this phenomenon through a cross-national perspective. The authors present the empirical study of World Love Index, in which the utility of the secondary analysis in finding and selecting valid indicators of social well-being is experienced.

The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether violinists and violists are able to aurally distinguish tonal differences between these two types of “A” strings. A series of musical examples were constructed to demonstrate different phases of string usage. These short phrases were then recorded under controlled conditions using both gut-core and metal-core “A” strings. The examples were then arranged in random order on magnetic tapes. On a simple response sheet, violinists and violists from ten universities and colleges were asked to identify which type of “A” string they were hearing. The statistical analysis of this material showed that in 3650 observations, 48.54 percent were correct. Since any value below 50 percent casts no doubt on the null hypothesis, it can be inferred from this study that there is no significant timbre difference observable between the two types.
