The Olympic values are the sports' spiritual power, which is incomprehensible and secret to many people, but can make sense of time, restore dignity and change the athlete's personality. “The important thing in the Olympic Games is not the triumph but the struggle, the essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well”, says the French educator and historian known as the father of the modern Olympic Games, Charles Pierre de Frédy, Baron de Coubertin. The noble spirit of this idea hides power and can become an ideal for anyone who wants to change himself/herself and the world around him/her. The time of technology, that we live in, represents a challenge of a healthy, educational and socio-cultural nature. The COVID-19 surprise blocked many activities and completely changed the world of sports and the physical activity of modern people. New issues and difficulties emerged, the great need for personal and family responsibility was felt, and spiritual, purely human values appeared. This article describes how teachers in physical education and sports found a landmark, solution and support in the idea of the Olympic movement and implemented it as an alternative in sports activities with young people and sports classes.

The Lausanne Youth Olympic Games in January 2020 represent a unique opportunity for the canton of Vaud to strengthen its policy of health promotion through physical activity and sport among young people. Several factors influence physical activity and physical fitness of a population. Ecological models describe correlates of physical activity in general population and youth. However, no model describes correlates of physical fitness. To close this gap, the model of physical fitness and its correlates among children and adolescents of the canton of Vaud (PACE model) was developed. The model is organized in the following levels: global (guidelines, policy and legal context), environmental (social, built and natural environment), interpersonal (family and relatives social support) and individual (biological, sociodemographic, psychological and behavioral aspects). Perspectives on the application of the PACE model are also presented. La forme masculine est utilisée dans cet article par souci de concision. Elle doit être comprise comme englobant l’ensemble des réalités liées au genre.

Olympic education is currently perceived as one of the most eff ective forms of upbringing, which is why it should be included in modern pedagogy. It is important because of the values of Olympism and education through sport. When speaking of Olympic education, its origins and precursor should be studied as well. It is worth knowing that it was Pierre de Coubertin’s philosophical and pedagogical concept that played the key role in the development of Olympic education in the world. The values of Olympism, including equality, fraternity, collaboration, friendship, respect, solidarity and striving for excellence are now commonly accepted. The timeless and universal nature of those values, the generally accepted fair play rule that is important not only in sport, but also in everyday life, looking at sport through the prism of social and human values, as well as the common global recognition of the Olympic Games, all may contribute to Olympic education becoming a marvel of modern education.

Created by Hergé in 1929, Tintin is a truly successful publication, since these comic books have been translated into about a hundred languages and published throughout the world during the 20th century. Several studies have already been conducted on Tintin. However, the place and role of physical and sports activities practiced by this tireless journalist in the promotion of these highly sustainable activities have never been analyzed. Through both quantitative and qualitative analyses (descriptions, counts, frequencies and percentages), this work studies all the panels of the 23 albums of Tintin’s adventures dealing with any form of physical exercise or sport. The results indicate that the representation of physical and sporting activity in Tintin’s adventures remains steady and consistent from the first (1931) to the last book (1976). Thus, Hergé had never ceased to believe in the beneficial, physiological, psychological, moral and social effects of physical activity on his young, tireless hero. To summarize, the eternally youthful and perfectly fit, Tintin leads both his core band and occasional characters and may serve as a role model influencing young 20th century readers toward the benefits of an active lifestyle.

Sports globally are also affected and impacted because of COVID-19. Time sports although often associated with healthy physical activity and its ability to improve the ability to improve health, these sports activities are seen as more dangerous if continued. Global concerns trigger a disturbing world life phenomenon in all aspects of life especially to the countries hit by this epidemic. This limitless and borderless COVID-19 pandemic forced various major world sporting events to be postponed. Sports are all physical activities performed to express feelings and convey value through the physical behavior as well as to test the skills of an individual with other individuals who venture into the same field of sports through competition based on the rules that have been set. As a clearer understanding, a pandemic occurs when many individuals can be infected with a disease easily and the disease can spread from one individual to another continuously without hindrance around the world and have a huge impact on sporting events.

Sports matter. Today sport is one of the most enduring social events that humans from across the world participate in, no matter their race, religion or gender. Moreover, the biggest of all those sporting events is the Olympic Games, which is held every four years. The modern version of the Games was founded by Frenchman Baron Pierre de Coubertin and first took place in Athens in 1896. New Zealand first competed alongside Australia as Australasia in London 1908 and Stockholm 1912. Following the games of 1916 which were cancelled due to World War I, New Zealand has competed as a sovereign nation since Antwerp 1920. Since 1908, over 1200 New Zealanders have competed at the Olympic Games, winning more than 100 medals. That performance in itself makes New Zealand one of the most successful nations in Olympic history on a per capita basis. That statistic alone underscores the relationship between the Olympics and national identity, as an embodiment of New Zealanders believing they ‘punch above their weight’ on the world stage. Benedict Anderson wrote about the imagined community, where the nation is imagined because it is impossible for every citizen to know each other.¹ This research has found that sporting teams like the All Blacks and the New Zealand Olympic Team are perfect avenues to help create this imagined community. New Zealand’s national identity is not fixed, it has evolved, but the one mainstay of that identity is the sense of being an underdog on the world stage. The research has found that over the past three decades New Zealand governments have increasingly woken up to the importance of high-performance sport and following the disappointment of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, funding was increased, which has led to better results and more medals. Today New Zealand athletes are funded on a per-capita basis just as well as many other nations we would compare ourselves with. New Zealand politicians have been quick to associate themselves alongside sportsmen and women and often speak about the close link that exists between sport and identity in New Zealand. However, unlike Australia, New Zealand does not have a national sports museum, and also unlike Australia, and the United Kingdom, New Zealand legislation does not allow for free-to-air television coverage of games of national significance. New Zealand does not adequately showcase its sporting history, and this has the potential to negatively affect the importance New Zealanders place on sport and the Olympic Movement as an important part of its national identity. Ultimately this research has found that the New Zealand Olympic Team epitomises what it means to be a New Zealander and has found that across multiple levels of analysis, the Olympic Movement has significantly contributed to the development of New Zealand’s national identity. More broadly, the Olympic Games have become a key avenue in which that national identity can be projected to the world. ¹ Benedict Anderson, ‘Imagined Communities,’ (London: Verso, 2006), pp.6-7.

Physical education is an specific didactic that involves both children and adolescents in the regular practice of physical activity; however, it is striking that, despite its innumerable benefits, its provision is being undermined in many countries of the world. It is therefore necessary for governments to take action in school curricula. From this need comes the interest to know the current situation of school physical education from different places of the world; being used for this purpose two very different countries, as much in their geographical location as in their culture, as Spain and Brazil. Thus, there are items referring to legislation, teaching hours, teaching, teacher training and complementary sports activities in relation to physical education. The objective of this article was the descriptive and qualitative comparison of the realities, similarities and differences between these countries, as well as the exposition of applicable improvement proposals; highlighting the importance of increasing the number of hours of physical education.

The Combined Maze, published in 1911, is an allegory about two possible futures for the human race. One possible future is to continue along Victorian lines, with working men and women either ‘weedy, parched, furtively inebriate’ like Ranny’s father, or with the ‘flabbiness’ of his father’s chemist assistant, Mercier.1 The alternative is for young people to throw off their Victorian shackles, to stride forth into the world, to run and jump, and to establish their lives upon the principles of moral and physical fitness. This chapter argues that Sinclair presents physical activity, strength training and joy in movement as the solution to moral, psychological and physical flabbiness. It makes explicit the similarities between Ezra Pound’s vortex and the vortex of Sinclair’s The Combined Maze, and Sinclair’s vision of the active modern woman with the discourses on race, fitness and eugenics (all inflected with classicist ideals) that were circulating in the early twentieth century.

In March 2020, a respiratory illness caused by the COVID-19 virus was declared by the World Health Organization as a pandemic and a state of emergency in Ukraine and around the world. To prevent the spread of coronavirus infection, state and local authorities have imposed numerous restrictions on human movement and physical interaction. As a result, student youth no longer had access to classes, especially physical education classes, as well as walks to / from the educational institution. It was the global COVID-19 pandemic that led to the transition to the online "life" of the entire population, including students. And, if the organization of the educational process of freelance students has reached a certain level and is constantly evolving, the creation of online conditions for physical activity of young people during physical education classes has so far been ignored. The problem of health of the entire population of Ukraine is recognized at the state level, as the level of development of the state at a particular stage determines the health of the nation. In addition, quarantine and distance learning of students in Ukrainian educational institutions have led to a critical decline in the duration of specially organized physical activity. This thesis is confirmed by the sad data on the decline in interest in the idea of a healthy lifestyle, systematic physical activity of young students, and, in fact, is a problem for the national security and defense capabilities of Ukraine. Quarantined distance learning as a set of online information technologies has ensured a successful educational process for freelance students. In addition, the geopolitical situation places high demands on society to the physical fitness of future defenders of the country's sovereignty. But the motivation for systematic motor activity in young people is critically low. The diversification and wide representation of the latest areas of physical activity, the development of sports infrastructure and the reduction of the cost of various fitness applications testify to the formation of a powerful affordable global industry of health, fitness and physical education services. However, achieving any result is calculated and requires a personal presence in class, training, sparring or, for example, meditation.
