The present study aimed to investigate Turkish EFL learners’ perceived levels of willingness to communicate (WTC) in English inside and outside the classroom. The study also aimed to explore whether there is a statistically significant difference between their in-class WTC in English and out-of-class WTC in English. The study, which employed a quantitative research design, was conducted with the participation of 701 EFL learners enrolled in the departments of Tourism Guidance and Tourism Management at Balıkesir University Faculty of Tourism located in Balıkesir, Turkey. The data collection instrument included a scale which measures the participants’ perceived levels of WTC in English. The data were analyzed descriptively through IBM SPSS 21. The findings of the study indicated that EFL learners have a moderate level of WTC in English. The findings also showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the participants’ perceived levels of their in-class WTC in English and their out-of-class WTC in English. It was found that they are more willing to communicate in English outside the classroom than they are inside the classroom. In the light of the findings, some practical recommendations were also noted.

The purpose of this descriptive quantitative research was to systematically investigate the association among EFL learners' Self-Regulation (SR), Locus of Control (LC), and their Willingness to Communicate (WTC). To fulfill this purpose, 222 male and female EFL learners, within the age range of 20 to 32 (Mage = 26) were selected based on the convenience sampling strategy. These participants were asked to fill in three questionnaires, namely the English versions of the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (Pintrich, Smith, Garcia, & McKeachie, 1991), the Internal Control Index (Duttweiler, 1984), and the WTC Scale (McCroskey, 1992). Since the assumptions of normality of distribution were partially violated, the research questions were answered using parametric and non-parametric tests. The obtained results led the researchers to conclude that significant and positive correlations exist between SR and WTC, SR and LC, and LC and WTC. Furthermore, considering WTC the predicted variable, a regression analysis revealed that LC is a better predictor of WTC than SR. The study finally presents a discussion on the results and provides some implications for those engaged in EFL learning and instruction.

A lot has been written with regards to anxiety in education and how it affects academic performance of students though little is known on the impact of test anxiety or examinations on pre-service language teachers. This study decided to examine the role of examinations in inducing anxiety among EFL learners and the extent to which this affects academic performance of students. In order to achieve this, a quantitative research design was used for this study. A questionnaire was used to elicit information from the participants and the instrument was distributed to 55 EFL learners to elicit information on their opinions regarding the influence of test anxiety on the students. The instruments were face validated as well checked for reliability. After collecting the data and carrying out analysis, findings derived from the study were used to make valid pedagogical conclusions on the impact of test anxiety on EFL learners

This study aimed to describe the level of students' reasoning ability to solve the problems on flat sides of Geometry with the level of mathematical reasoning ability of high, moderate and low. The types and the research approaches used were descriptive qualitative and quantitative research design. The research subjectswere 6 students from class VIIIF. The form of data collection included 4 items ofwritten questions test and interview on the subject selected. Based on the analysis, the average value of the entire instrument about the mathematical reasoning abilities gained 71.5% for the indicators that carried out the calculations based on mathematical formulas or rules applicable. While 73.33% and 71.5% for the indicator of conclusions and 66.67% for the indicator ofestimation, that ifsummedup and averaged the percentage was 69%. The ability of class VIIIF students’ mathematical reasoning was fair.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of instruction through debate on the male and female EFL learners’ reading comprehension, and to examine the difference between male and female EFL learners’ perception towards instructing critical thinking (CT) through debate. 88 learners, out of 120, were selected through convenience sampling method. Using a quantitative research method with experimental pre-and post-tests design, this study consisted of 44 participants in the experimental group and 44 participants in the control group. The experimental group received some treatment in the form of “the Meeting-House Debate” strategy, while the control group received no such treatment. After one month and a half treatment of experimental group, both groups participated in the post-test. Data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential statistics procedures. Findings showed that the debate strategy had statistically significant effect on the students’ reading comprehension. Also, results revealed that there was no significant difference between male and female EFL learners’ perception towards instructing CT through debate. It was concluded that instructing CT skills through debate strategy resulted in better understanding of reading texts.

Introduction: Vertical transmission by Toxoplasma gondii usually occurs in women who are infected for the first time during pregnancy. Screening for toxoplasmosis during pregnancy is one of the measures adopted in our country as a form of prevention. Objective: To investigate maternal risk factors associated with gestational toxoplasmosis in a large maternity hospital located in Fortaleza-Ceará. Methodology: This is an observational, quantitative comparative study conducted in a federal public maternity hospital located in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil in 2014. Data collection occurred from January to March 2014, through the analysis of medical records. guided by a data collection instrument. The research project was submitted to the Assis Chateaubriand School Maternity Research Ethics Committee (MEAC), and was approved in the register 513.392 / 2014-14. Results: The sample analyzed was established by high risk pregnant women aged 13 to 40 years. The diagnosis of toxoplasmosis was predominant in the age group between 20 and 30 years. As managers diagnosed with toxoplasmosis reside mainly in the interior of Ceará with statistically significant difference compared to pregnant women residing in the capital. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the analysis analyzed as the variables that were associated with toxoplasmosis were: residing within the state, gestational week between 13 to 27 weeks, normal sharing and using positive IgG serology for toxoplasmosis.

The purpose of this paper is to examine police cadets’ perceptions of the seriousness of police corruption. This study attempts to explore and delineate a variety of factors that may influence police cadets’ perceptions about some basic types of corruption. A comparison between future supervisors’ and line officers’ perceptions of specific aspects of corruption is lacking. A quantitative research design was used for data collection. The results of this study indicated that there were significant differences in police cadets’ perceptions of the seriousness of corruption based on their parents’ education level, occupation, and income. In addition, the findings revealed that cadets’ sociodemographic background, such as parents’ education level and type of occupation, as well as the cadet’s organizational affiliations, such as their respective police training school, had significant effects on their perceptions of seriousness involving corruption scenarios. This study provided important and useful information for policy-makers and leadership cadres responsible for police training.

This study aims to determine the use of reading techniques that are effective and efficient, and to determine whether there is an effect of skimming reading techniques on students' reading comprehension skills to identify the intrinsic elements present in drama texts read by grade VIII students of SMP Muhammadiyah Tangerang City. This research is a quantitative research. Data collection techniques using tests, namely pretest and posttest. The results of this study indicate the influence of the ability to identify the intrinsic elements of drama text on students who use skimming reading techniques. This effect has been carried out with the results of the t-test. Then it shows the results of t count 0.233 <t table 1.977, t count is smaller than t table, this shows that there is no significant difference between the experiment class students and the control class students on the ability to identify the intrinsic elements of drama text. After the pretest is done posttest to find out, it shows the results of t count 1.982> t table 1,800, t count is greater than t table shows that there is a difference in the ability to identify the intrinsic elements of drama text between students who receive learning about the use of skimming reading techniques and students who get conventional learning. From the data obtained like what is listed above, it can be concluded that there is an effect of using skimming reading techniques on the ability to identify the intrinsic elements of drama text in class VIII students of SMP Muhammadiyah Tangerang City
