<p><strong>INTRODUCTION &amp; AIM: </strong>Medication errors as a serious problem in world and one of the most common medical errors that threaten patient safety and may lead to even death of them. The purpose of this study was to investigate the causes of medication errors and strategies to prevention of them from nurses and nursing student viewpoint.</p><p><strong>MATERIALS &amp; METHODS: </strong>This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 327 nursing staff of khatam-al-anbia hospital and 62 intern nursing students in nursing and midwifery school of Zahedan, Iran, enrolled through the availability sampling in 2015. The data were collected by the valid and reliable questionnaire. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics, T-test and ANOVA were applied by use of SPSS16 software.</p><p><strong>FINDINGS: </strong>The results showed that the most common causes of medications errors in nursing were tiredness due increased workload (97.8%), and in nursing students were drug calculation, (77.4%). The most important way for prevention in nurses and nursing student opinion, was reducing the work pressure by increasing the personnel, proportional to the number and condition of patients and also creating a unit as medication calculation. Also there was a significant relationship between the type of ward and the mean of medication errors in two groups.</p><p><strong>CONCLUSION: </strong>Based on the results it is recommended that nurse-managers resolve the human resources problem, provide workshops and in-service education about preparing medications, side-effects of drugs and pharmacological knowledge. Using electronic medications cards is a measure which reduces medications errors.</p>

Background & Objective: Effective communication in the nursing profession is not just a personal skill but is accepted as a learned and gained technique in the instructional process. It is possible for nurses to professionally provide effective and quality service with the establishment, development, and transfer to emotion of effective communication with people. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between levels of alexithymia and communication skills of nursing students. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among students attending the School of Nursing in a university in Turkey in the 2017-2018 Spring semester. A total of 634 nursing students participated in the study. The data in the study were collected with the “Student Introduction Form”, the “Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS)” and the “Communication Skills Scale (CSS)”. Means, standard deviations, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation analysis were used for the analysis. Results: The mean TAS scores of the nursing students were found to be 56.31±8.82, and the students had “moderate alexithymia” based on the average scores of the scale. The mean CSS scores of the nursing students in the study was found to be 91.16±12.99, and the students had “Good level of communication” based on the average scores of the scale. In our study, a negative and moderate correlation between the levels of alexithymia of nursing students and their communication skills was detected (p: 0.001). Conclusion: It was found that as the levels of alexithymia of nursing student increased, their communication skills decreased. How to cite this:Sancar B, Aktas D. <p>Purpose: The study was conducted to investigate students’ perceptions on their clinical experience and the quality clinical placement.<br />Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study. One hundred and thirteen junior or senior nursing students participated in this study. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. <br />Results: Majority nursing students expressed un-satisfaction (57.52%) with the required hours of practicums. They experienced different quality of clinical placement between the cities. Direct nursing skills they practice were limited to doing chores (67.1%), charting (14.47%), providing education to patients and families (10.53%), giving medication (7.89%). 49.56% of the students did not satisfy with what they have received shift schedule which was given from hospitals. <br />Conclusion: Simulation and scenario-centered education should be considered in Asian countries as one of replacement of clinical hours on-site. Future research warrants testing and clarifying the most appropriate clinical hours to the nursing undergraduates for their quality clinical placement.</p>

At the time of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, several measures were in place to limit the spread of the virus, such as lockdown and restriction of social contacts. Many colleges thus had to shift their education from personal to online form overnight. The educational environment itself has a significant influence on students’ learning outcomes, knowledge, and satisfaction. This study aims to validate the tool for assessing the educational environment in the Slovenian nursing student population. To assess the educational environment, we used the DREEM tool distributed among nursing students using an online platform. First, we translated the survey questionnaire from English into Slovenian using the reverse translation technique. We also validated the DREEM survey questionnaire. We performed psychometric testing and content validation. I-CVI and S-CVI are at an acceptable level. A high degree of internal consistency was present, as Cronbach’s alpha was 0.951. The questionnaire was completed by 174 participants, of whom 30 were men and 143 were women. One person did not define gender. The mean age of students was 21.1 years (SD = 3.96). The mean DREEM score was 122.2. The mean grade of student perception of learning was 58.54%, student perception of teachers was 65.68%, student academic self-perception was 61.88%, student perception of the atmosphere was 60.63%, and social self-perception of students was 58.93%. Although coronavirus has affected the educational process, students still perceive the educational environment as positive. Nevertheless, there is still room for improvement in all assessed areas.

Purpose: The aim of the study; To evaluate the knowledge level of nursing students about diseases transmitted by bodily fluids. Materials and Methods: The study is descriptive-cross-sectional. The sample is 352 nursing students studying at a foundation university. The data were evaluated with a questionnaire about diseases transmitted by body fluids. Results: The mean age of nursing students was 20.87±2.14 years and 81.3% of them were girls. Most of the sample consisted of 1st year (26.7%) and 4th year students (31.5%). The mean score of the questionnaire for diseases transmitted by bodily fluids of nursing students was found to be 13.61 ± 2.19. It was determined that 96.9% of the students gave correct answers to the 2nd item of the questionnaire, “Spouses with these diseases should be treated together”. It was determined that 69.3% of the students gave incorrect answers to the 3rd item of the questionnaire, "Untreated, diseases transmitted by body fluids can cause infertility". 62.5% of the students reported that they had received training on the subject before. Of the sample, 97.2% are individuals who have relationships with more than one person, 1.1% are individuals with a single spouse, 38.1% (n=134) are people who use drugs, 31.8% are health professionals. reported that they were in the high-risk group for diseases transmitted by fluids. The results show that nursing students gave insufficient information about the prevention of diseases transmitted by body fluids. Conclusion: In the study, it was determined that the knowledge of nursing students about diseases transmitted by body fluids was above the medium level, and it was noteworthy that they needed training on transmission routes, risk groups and protection from diseases transmitted by body fluids.

Transitioning to practice is challenging for baccalaureate nursing students. In baccalaureate nursing programs, the process typically begins in the junior year. A Successful transition depends on how well students apply their developing knowledge during clinical placements. A cross-sectional, multisite, qualitative study was conducted at four universities in Greater Beirut, Lebanon. In total, 35 junior baccalaureate students participated in audio-recorded focus group discussions. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Three themes were sufficient to summarize the students experiences: “being unprepared,” “learning unexpected lessons,” and “taking responsibility.” Three subthemes, revising expectations, discovering divergence, and self-monitoring, were used to clarify the unexpected lessons students learned during clinical placements and how students responded. “Loving nursing and protecting yourself,” making the most of every day, and doubting future readiness were subthemes within the “taking responsibility” theme. Students troubled by nursing practices that diverged from their expectations monitored themselves to avoid falling into poor practices and kept track of the nursing procedures they performed. Only by taking responsibility for their learning, could students develop the competencies they will need as registered nurses. Faculty, clinical instructors, hospital administrators, nurse managers, and registered nurses need to do more to support students to take control of their learning.

Introduction: The changing proportion of older adults in society necessitates the need to determine the attitudes of health care professionals toward older adults. The purpose of this study was to explore attitudes of ageism and its correlates among health care professionals working with older adults. Method: This descriptive study was conducted in seven hospitals in five cities in Turkey. A total of 628 health care professionals participated in this study. The Fraboni Scale of Ageism (FSA) was used to collect data. Descriptive statistics, student’s t test, one-way analysis of variance and multivariate linear regression were used for data analysis. Results: The mean total score from the FSA was 56.9 ( SD = 8.0). Education (β = −.18, p < .001) and difficulty with the care of older adults (β = −.10, p < .05) were statistically significant predictors of the FSA score. Conclusions: The attitudes of health care professionals toward older adults were generally positive and affected by difficulty in providing care and the educational status of the health care professionals.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an emerging infectious disease caused by novel coronavirus and hence this pandemic has a great impact on the education system. Nursing students as part of the health team should know the coronavirus like other communicable diseases. Methods: A quantitative approach and cross-sectional survey research design used to assess the knowledge of Coronavirus among 145 nursing students of district Sirmaur selected through the convenient sampling technique. An online self-structured questionnaire used as a tool for data collection. Descriptive data analysis was done with SPSS (version 23).Results: The result of the study revealed that only 31.7% of students had good knowledge about COVID-19, and 68.3% had average knowledge. Conclusions: There is a need for intervention such as educational programs or pieces of training to educate about the pandemic and its prevention practices to undergraduate students to make our society more secure.

Satisfaction with the experience gained in clinical settings is of great significance to nursing students and novice first-year students in particular and contributes significantly to developing basic clinical skills and competence. Accordingly, the present study aimed to examine nursing student satisfaction with the first clinical education experience. A total of 390 second- and third-semester nursing students gaining clinical experience in general surgery, internal medicine, gynecological surgery, orthopedics, emergency, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, andrological surgery, post-CCU, and otorhinolaryngology departments participated in this analytical cross-sectional study from March to June 2017. The research instrument included the “Assessment of nursing student’s Satisfaction with First Clinical Practical Education Questionnaire: Modified Version”, consisting of three parts: demographic characteristics, 37 items, and a 10-degree visual analog scale to assess student satisfaction. Descriptive statistics were used to hypothesis test in SPSS 22. The highest rate of student satisfaction was related to the third domain labeled “Instructor’s behavior”, and the lowest rate of student satisfaction was related to the fifth and seventh domains labeled “Emotional atmosphere and learning in the clinical setting” and “Creating appropriate learning opportunities”, respectively. The results of statistical tests suggested a statistically significant relationship between the mean satisfaction score (based on the 10-degree scale) and gender (p=0.01). However, no statistically significant relationship was observed between the mean satisfaction score and other demographic characteristics such as age, grade point average (GPA), and university type. Student satisfaction rate varies in different domains of the questionnaire. Accordingly, it is recommended that schools of nursing and midwifery incorporate the findings of this study into their first clinical, educational experience planning and take into account the educational needs of students to bring greater satisfaction.

Nyeri pinggang dan panggul merupakan keluhan yang umum dirasakan oleh wanita hamil terutama pada akhir kehamilan. Olah raga termasuk yoga prenatal merupakan strategi yang efektif dan disarankan untuk mengatasi nyeri pinggang dan panggul. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan gambaran intensitas nyeri pinggang dan panggul pada ibu hamil trimester III yang melaksanakan yoga prenatal di Kota Denpasar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif observasional dengan pendekatan cross sectional terhadap 96 ibu hamil trimester III yang melaksanakan yoga prenatal di kota Denpasar. Didapatkan hasil rerata intensitas nyeri pinggang dan panggul yang dirasakan adalah 1.88 (SD ±2.202). Sebagian besar responden (41.7%) merasakan nyeri pada area tulang belakang disekitar lumbal hingga diatas sacrum.Intensitas nyeri pinggang dan pelvis pada ibu hamil trimester III di Kota Denpasar yang melaksanakan yoga prenatal tergolong nyeri intensitas ringan.Lumbopelvic pain are common complaints felt by pregnant women. Exercise, including prenatal yoga, is an effective strategy and is recommended for treating pregnancy-related lumbopelvic pain. The purpose of the syudi is to know the intensity of pregnancy-related lumbopelvic painamong woman who performe prenatal yoga in Denpasar. This study was an observational descriptive study with a cross sectional approach. The subjeck study was 96 third trimester pregnant women who performed prenatal yoga in Denpasar. The mean pain intensity was 1.88 (SD ± 2.202). Most respondents (41.7%) felt pain in the spinal area around the lumbar to above the sacrum. The intensity of pregnancy-related lumbopelvic pain among third trimester pregnant women in Denpasar who performe prenatal yoga is mild pain.
