Emotional praxis is not a phrase usually associated with teaching and teacher education. Yet when race enters educational spaces, emotions frequently run high. In particular, Whites are often ill-equipped to handle emotions about race, either becoming debilitated by them or consistently evading them. Without critically understanding the relationship between race and emotions—or, simply, racialized emotions—teachers are unprepared to teach one of the most important topics in modern education. This chapter addresses this gap in education and teacher training by surveying the philosophical, sociological, and burgeoning literature on emotion in education to arrive at critical knowledge about the function and constitutive role it plays in discourses on race. Specifically, the argument delves into white racial emotions in light of the known fact that most teachers in the United States are White women. This means that our critical understanding of emotion during the teaching and learning interaction entails appreciation of both its racialized and gendered dimensions, and attention to both race and gender becomes part of emotional praxis. Finally, the essay ends with a proposal for an intersubjective race theory of emotion in education.

This paper presents the results of a study of the phenomenon of female migration from abroad to the IS and their return. This phenomenon emerges because the organization and female recruits had to satisfy each other’s needs. A theoretical model that allows to track the formation of values and needs of female IS recruits has been developed. This model reflects the connections between various factors and their cumulative influence on the formation of values and needs of female recruits. The feasibility of using value-oriented and systems approaches in the study is determined by the specifics of Islamic radical groups, including the IS, as self-regulating systems with significant potential for mobilization and mobility, as well as the division and restoration of functional structures. Also, the characteristic features of female migration to the IS were identified in conjunction with a system of binary oppositions that form the habitus of radical monotheism. The article contains the results of comprehensive content analysis of 189 texts presented on Russian-language online resources and devoted to the propaganda, recruitment and migration of female IS recruits. The geography of the study includes 25 states from 5 regions (Central Asia, the Middle East, the Caucasus, Europe and separately the Western Balkans). We have analyzed 167 articles related to the IS and similar groups (2013-2020), and 22 articles connected to terrorist groups (2003-2012). Out of these, 56 articles contain interview excerpts and complete interviews with IS volunteer recruits, both male and female, as well as with their family members and officials. The results of the study allowed to determine the relationship between the values and needs of female recruits and the organization itself, as well as between military and political processes and the formation of images of a passionary and victimized woman in the IS. The periods of distribution of these images coincide with two differently directed waves of migration of female recruits: to the ranks of the organization (2013-2016) and back (2016-the present time). The first wave of migration satisfied the organization’s need to increase the number of highly motivated members, and the second one meets the need to preserve and relocate the IS contingent to other regions. This work highlights the previously unexplored aspects of the migration of female IS recruits. The results of the study can be applied in planning and improving the activities of state and civil structures aimed at re-ideologizing and rehabilitating the returning female IS recruits.

Does education have an influence on absence rates of full-time employees? The absence rates include the illness or disability, personal or family responsibility. The purpose of this report is to give an overview of the change in absence rates of full-time employees for both males and females in Canada from 1993 to 2013, and then research why higher education is correlated with less absence rates. To research why higher education is correlated with less absence rates, the authors used the data from CANSIM, the change by average earnings of individuals for both males and females by National Occupational Classification for Statistics. This article also considers the type of job difference, the opportunity cost and the nature of job to research the relationship between the education and absence rates. Improvement of modern education and QoL through the education reform and technological advancement will be helpful to overcome current challenges.

Only six years ago, the first clear-cut example of a ferroelectric, lyotropic liquid crystal was discovered. Since then, ongoing investigations in this new research field provided numerous instances of the missing pieces to complete the formerly blank picture of the lyotropic smectic C* (SmC*) phase. In this review we wanted to combine these new results and put them into a wider historical and scientific context. We start by giving an introduction about characteristic features of the well-known thermotropic SmC* phase and why it is so difficult to find a lyotropic equivalent of this fascinating phase. After discussing early examples of achiral lyotropic and swollen SmC phases, we recap the discovery of the first lyotropic SmC* phase. The molecular features necessary for its formation and its properties are analyzed. We place special emphasis on discussing the long-range orientational order of the tilt direction and the corresponding chirality effects. By comparing these exceptional features with thermotropic and swollen SmC* phases, we aim to improve not only the understanding of the lyotropic SmC* phase, but also of the relationship between thermotropic and lyotropic systems in general.

This study investigates the potential of the limb ballistocardiogram (BCG) for unobtrusive estimation of cardiovascular (CV) parameters. In conjunction with the reference CV parameters (including diastolic, pulse, and systolic pressures, stroke volume, cardiac output, and total peripheral resistance), an upper-limb BCG based on an accelerometer embedded in a wearable armband and a lower-limb BCG based on a strain gauge embedded in a weighing scale were instrumented simultaneously with a finger photoplethysmogram (PPG). To standardize the analysis, the more convenient yet unconventional armband BCG was transformed into the more conventional weighing scale BCG (called the synthetic weighing scale BCG) using a signal processing procedure. The characteristic features were extracted from these BCG and PPG waveforms in the form of wave-to-wave time intervals, wave amplitudes, and wave-to-wave amplitudes. Then, the relationship between the characteristic features associated with (i) the weighing scale BCG-PPG pair and (ii) the synthetic weighing scale BCG-PPG pair versus the CV parameters, was analyzed using the multivariate linear regression analysis. The results indicated that each of the CV parameters of interest may be accurately estimated by a combination of as few as two characteristic features in the upper-limb or lower-limb BCG, and also that the characteristic features recruited for the CV parameters were to a large extent relevant according to the physiological mechanism underlying the BCG.

The Jāmiʿ al-bayān ʿan taʾwīl āy al-Qurʾān is fittingly recognised as representing an important milestone in the history of the discipline of tafsīr: within the work, al-Ṭabarī accomplished a uniquely comprehensive exegetical synthesis of literary, grammatical, legal and theological elements, bringing a broader sense of definition and purpose to the discipline of tafsīr. Among the characteristic features of the scholarship of al-Ṭabarī are the objectivity and consistency he brought to his work and such qualities resonate in his gauging of theological issues and topics. While it has been customary to view al-Ṭabarī's theology as being strictly informed by a rigidly traditionalist methodology, a circumspect review of theological discussions in the tafsīr reveals not only the author's accomplished marshalling of the attendant arguments and theses, but also the spirit of autonomy and resourcefulness with which he assesses points of doctrine and dogma. In this article an attempt is made to analyse aspects of the intertwined theological discourses of the tafsīr and related treatises, bridging them with materials articulated in the biographical sources. The aim is to explore the relationship between his approach to scholarship along with the standpoints to which he adhered and their impact upon attitudes towards his remarkable work and legacy.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the phenomenon of procrastination in the historical context. The peculiarities of defining this concept in the works of Ukrainian and foreign researchers are considered. Different definitions of the phenomenon of procrastination are analyzed and it is established that there is no single approach to its definition. However, it was found that procrastination has always been characterized by two aspects: voluntary postponement of intention and the presence of psychological discomfort associated with postponement of such intention. The analysis of the reasons of its occurrence is carried out; it was found that there is no consensus on the factors that cause and / or exacerbate procrastination. The characteristic features of this phenomenon and features of manifestation are investigated. The main approaches to the study of procrastination are analyzed: psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive, subjective, motivational, psychophysiological. Possible negative consequences for the personality are revealed, among which are anxiety, stress, loss of productivity, psychosomatic disorders. The main types of procrastination are considered. It was found that some of the most common reasons for procrastination are: the difficulty of the task, fear of failure and success, perfectionism, insecurity, inability to plan and organize their activities, improper motivation, impulsiveness and others. It has been established that procrastination is a complex, heterogeneous phenomenon that includes a number of components and extends to various spheres of human life. The relationship between the concepts of procrastination and laziness is analyzed. It is established that they are based on various psychological mechanisms. Prospects for further research are identified.

The colour of fruits is considered to be an important quality indicator. Saleability greatly depends on how well covered the colour is of the specific type of fruits. It is a well-known phenomenon by growers that apples get nicer colours in one year while in other years the basically red and green colour cultivars can be differentiated only by morphological characteristic features. Cover colour is one of the phenometric variables and it is a well-known fact that significant differences can be experienced year by year. The experienced oscillation can be the cause of inappropriate water- and nutriment supply, however it can be the result of some kind of plant disease, extremely high or low temperature, setting rate above the average and outstanding fruit density. In the present examination it is postulated that the degree of cover colour is mostly influenced by day and night temperature. Therefore, our study aims to find out whether it is true or not. Cover colour belongs to those phenometric characteristic features, only the final value of which is taken into consideration; due to their nature of establishment or forming time it seems useless to follow closely the change in the time of vegetation. However, determining the start of colouring and knowing the dynamics of full colouring could carry very important information for growers. If it is possible to determine the curve describing the time change of colouring, we have a possibility to estimate it by means of enviroment variables. So it is also possible to model pigmentation in the future. Knowing this, colouring irrigation could be made more efficient in the future. For this, as a first step, it is inevitable to find out what the relationship is between the main meteorogical variables, namely day and night temperature and the difference between day and night temperature, and colour cover. In this study we summarize and show these interrelations.

The article outlines the concept of “conversion”, which is defined as an affixless, derivational way of word formation, in which a new word formed from another part of the language does not acquire an external word-forming rearrangement. The concept of “word formation” has also been analyzed and the phonetic component of compounds of religious vocabulary characterized. The structural classification has been distinguished taking into account the structure of compoundings. It has been found that among the layer of religious vocabulary derivational connections of conversion occur between two, three or more words, and the main ways of direction of this process have been identified. Five main models of conversion of lexical units of the religious sphere have been determined, such as: Noun – Verb, which further is divided into three categories, Verb – Noun, Adjective – Noun, Noun – Adjective, Adjective – Verb. The process of substantivization of religious vocabulary as a variant of conversion has also been analyzed. Under substantivization we understand the process of changing the paradigm of the basic word and a part of speech. Analysis of religious vocabulary shows that the transition is from adjectives to nouns, the first acquires the characteristic features of the latter. The article presents an analysis of religious vocabulary based on the dictionary of O. O. Azarov “Comprehensive English-Russian dictionary of religious terminology” which allows to identify such productive models of word formation of religious vocabulary in English: Noun + Noun, Noun + Participle, Adjective + Noun, Noun + Preposition + Noun, Participle + Noun, Pronoun + Noun, Adjective + Participle. These models are most actively involved in the creation of religious vocabulary in English, as they have the largest number of words in their structure. Compounds of religious lexis are divided into root compounds and compound derivatives, the structural integrity of which allows to distinguish them from phrases. Considering the components of compound words, the main element can be both the first and second part. According to the relationship between the components, compounds are divided into endocentric and exocentric types. The first is expressed by a compound word, the meaning of which is derived from the sum of the meanings of the compound’s components, the latter includes complex words, the meaning of which is not determined by any of its constituent elements. Among the layer of religious vocabulary of the English language we distinguish the following endocentric models: Adj + N = N, V + N = N, Part I + N = N, Ger + N = N, N + N = N and exocentric models: Participle + N = Adj, N+Pro.=Adj, V+Prep.=N, Adv+Participle=Adj.Key words:compounding, endocentric and exocentric compound words, substantivization, conversion. Серед пласту релігійної лексики англійської мови виокремлюємо такі ендоцентричні моделі: Adj + N = N, V + N = N, Part I + N = N, Ger + N = N, N + N = N та екзоцентричні моделі: Participle + N = Adj, N+Pro.=Adj, V+Prep.=N, Adv+Participle=Adj.Ключові слова:словоскладання, ендоцентричні та екзоцентричні складні слова, субстантивація, конверсія.
