Corporate Citizenship and Governance Practices in Holy Name University, Bohol, Philippines

Holy Name University (HNU) just like any other academic institution is largely dependent on community trust, employees’ loyalty and collaborative efforts in order to attain its goals and objectives. However in the past few years, the administration noticed that there were lapses in addressing societal concerns and collaborative efforts among HNU’s various stakeholders which in a way affected the operations of the school. It is within this context that this study was made. The primary aim of the study was to assess HNU’s practices in terms of corporate citizenship and governance in order to design schemes to enhance its implementation and ensure its continued success. The study used the descriptive survey method. The findings showed that except for promoting environmental sustainability, all the components of corporate citizenship and governance were manifested and adhered to a great extent. In the light of these findings, the proponent concluded that while HNU upheld and integrated CSR and governance in its operations, there were certain aspects of the processes that needed to be enhanced to fulfill its obligations expected of it by its various stakeholders.   Keywords – corporate citizenship, governance, ethical behavior, internal control, risk management

The advent of modernization and cutthroat competition necessitates an organization to dismantle if not redefine its directions and key positions in the market. This compelling reality prompted many corporations to change its vision, mission and goals and even to the point of system’s overhaul. Whatever modes adopted in order to get an edge in the market calls for participative and collegial decisions. However, strategic directions and corporate plans if conceptualized by the few “corporate think tank” only remain as beautiful as a piece of poetry. The absence of sense of ownership will convert these powerful ideas into garbage. Hence, cascading them to the entire system becomes a must. It is from this contention that this study was conceptualized. The primary aim of this study was to assess HNU’s practices in terms of corporate citizenship. The study used descriptive survey method. Personal interviews were effected in order to avoid bias and subjective interpretation of the questionnaire. Data gaps were addressed thru key informant interview. The findings showed that almost all parameters of corporate citizenship were given high regard, , but the prevalence of minute yet significant unfavorable data calls for an alarm.   Keywords - corporate citizenship, institutional tool, stakeholder’s participation

This research involved a comprehensive review of a graduate program’s competence for enhancements responsive and relevant to the standards of the new educational landscape and of the employment agencies’ growing needs and demands. Descriptive survey method embedding interview was used to address the objectives. Employing total enumeration, 70% retrieval rate of the instrument administered was recorded. Statistical and thematic analyses revealed that the MA- ESL degree, as similarly concluded, is contributory to the professional advancement of the graduates as supported by the high employment rating obtained consistent with the graduates’ regular status in professional occupational classifications and business lines. Significantly, the school- related factors were generally found very relevant- giving premium to curriculum, goals and objectives, and faculty and instruction. The work- related values on the other hand were rated highly useful- assessing perseverance and hard work of utmost importance. Of the general competencies, communication, knowledge and technical, and research were primarily found useful. Meanwhile, the feedback derived from the graduates, crosschecked with the above results, provided quality and timely enhancement measures. It is then forwarded that the proposed plan highlighting specific measures in the areas of curriculum and faculty and instruction may be adopted and accorded periodic evaluation.

The study assessed the peace processes under the concept of Restorative Justice in Cordillera Administrate Region (CAR). Restorative Justice (RJ) is a means to heal, not punish, the harm caused by one person to another. It is a process which allows the harmed party to participate in the decisions which are made to heal the harm caused them. The study used the Individual Positivism Theory to analyze the use of RJ in CAR. Through Descriptive Survey Method, the level of attainment of the goals and objectives of peace processes was measured based on the responses of the three groups of respondents in the study namely: (a) Stakeholders (victims, complainants, respondents, witnesses, and the community); (b) Barangay Peace and Order Council (BPOC) (Lupong Tagapamayapa chaired by the Punong Barangay [Barangay Officials] and Council of Elders); and (c) PNP organic personnel. Hence, study showed that RJ through indigenous method of conflict resolution played a significant role in preserving Unity, Peace and Order, and Justice in the community most especially among families, relatives, or clans in CAR.

Program Outcomes speak to comprehensive explanations that consolidate numerous zones between related information and aptitudes created over the program’s span of broad scope of courses and encounters. This investigation assesses the realization of the Business Administration Program Outcomes for the Year 2015-2019. The respondents were 673 alumni from the University of Cebu- Lapu Lapu and Mandaue. Descriptive survey method was utilized as an examination instrument on snowball sampling. The discoveries uncovered program outcomes that (1) meets the current demand and needs of the industry in the areas of human resource, marketing, accounting, and finance; (2) Communicate and collaborate effectively; and (3) Adhere strictly to professional, ethical standards were realized by the alumni understudies. Program outcomes: (4) Contribute to socio-economic development and environmental sustainability; and (5) Utilizing information technology were less realized. The examination concluded that business management research-based guidelines ought to be actualized and continued. Outcome-Based Teaching and Learning ought to be received to empower understudies to create aptitudes required in the course. Community services spreading business and management development should be adjusted each semester to guarantee maintainability in community vocation programs. Furthermore, Progression of mechanical approach to managing training and learning requests to improved adaption on the new trend and innovations of the money managers and business people.

Lullabies are essentially sung for their soothing nature but, as this article shows, they have other important functions. One of the most important of these is that lullabies may provide much-needed language stimulation with important long-term consequences for future learning. This paper begins the work of addressing the dearth of scholarly research on lullabies, especially in the Yoruba (Nigeria: Niger-Congo) culture. It looks at the range of themes, dictions, and prosody that are intertwined to reveal Yoruba beliefs and world-views about children, starting with their time in the womb. The study uses a descriptive survey method to analyse data collected through participant observation. It shows that Yoruba lullabies not only offer insights into Yoruba cultural beliefs but also depend greatly on figurative expression and prosodic systems. These rich literary qualities identify lullabies as the earliest sub-genre of children's poetry.

The cumulative environmental challenge of sustainable development in the twenty-first century is larger than anything humanity has ever had to deal with in the past. The good news is that solid progress is being reached in the understanding of issues in scientific terms and understanding what needs to be done. The bad news is twofold. First, although many of the environmental problems of earlier centuries are now being confronted, a new generation of difficulties is eclipsing what were the older difficulties. Secondly, much of the progress is being achieved by the wealthier parts of the planet, rather than the developing world. From population growth to climate change to unprecedented habitat and species loss, whether environmental sustainability can be achieved in the twenty-first century is an open question.

The paper contributes to literatures on settlements and institutional maintenance work. It does so by unpacking post-settlement legitimation efforts required to maintain contentious institutions between previously conflicting actors. Settlements often necessitate the maintenance of institutions from the past whose legitimacy is dubious for the new regime. We study the role played by South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission in re-legitimating and maintaining the institution of the armed forces in the transition from apartheid to democracy. Maintaining this legitimacy required collaboration between the incoming government as well as the apartheid era armed forces. We term these unexpected collaborative efforts “reluctant accommodation work”. Our findings show that the lines of allegiance may be more fluid than currently depicted in the literature. Actors that previously conflicted need to find an interest in collaborating in their efforts to shape central institutions. Second, we show that for settlements to shape the field, they need to agree on the terms of collaboration, what we term “passage points” as well as engage in public ceremonies to broadly legitimate the settlement and the institution it seeks to preserve.

This study set out to examine the effect of social media marketing on the growth of micro businesses in Wuse II, Abuja, Nigeria. The main objectives translated into two hypothesis to find out whether there was any significant relationship between Social Media usage, (independent variable) by micro business against increased brand awareness as well as increased sales (dependent variables). The study adopted a Descriptive survey method where data was collected using structured close-ended questionnaire. Data was collected from 99 respondents from the population of Micro Business in Wuse II comprising of management, staff and customers of the business. The collected data was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and the tools employed were model summary, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and co-efficient table in testing the research hypotheses. The findings showed that there is a significant relationship between social media usage by micro business and increased brand awareness; and findings also indicated that there is a significant relationship between social media usage by micro businesses and increased sales. The paper therefore concluded that social media marketing is as important as any other marketing strategy as it contributes to business growth in terms of increased brand awareness and increased sales. The paper recommends that businesses in Wuse II, Abuja and others should invest more in deploying social media marketing tools and also to train their staff to enhance social media usage.

This study aims to examine the effect of fraud prevention on village / village financial management as the dependent variable and the competency of village apparatuses, compliance of government financial reporting, internal control systems as independent variables while moral sensitivity as amoderating variable. This research is a quantitative research or hypothetic - deductive method that aims to answer such questions that are related to exploratory, descriptive, explanatory and predictive studies. Primary data is mainly used in this research. Data collection is conducted using a survey method in the form of a questionnaire that lists the statements, which were given to the respondents to be filled in order to get information, and then the data analyzing was conducted using the Warp-PLS 5.0 Application software. The study results show that the competence of village officials influences fraud prevention, financial reporting adherence affects fraud prevention, and meanwhile the internal control system does not affect fraud prevention. Furthermore, moral sensitivity does not moderate the competence of village officials, adherence to financial reporting and internal control systems.

This year marks the 42nd anniversary of the American Academy of Pediatrics. From its original 35 members, in this short span of years, the Academy has become a progressive, rapidly growing, vigorous group of more than 14,000 Fellows-four-fifths of all the United States pediatricians and a representative percentage of the pediatricians in Central and South America and Canada. During this interval, the Academy has consistently developed its programs and activities to advance and promote the health and welfare of children. Yet for the first 35 years we were basically an educational, disease-oriented organization, with little impact on community-oriented medical services, or on the socioeconomics of health care. Fortunately in the past several years there has been a decided change in the policies, priorities, and direction of the Academy. This is best reflected by its recent expanded goals and objectives in a complete revision of Article III, Section I of its Constitution. Even though we are still primarily disease-oriented physicians, we must not forget the problems that are deterrents to good health. We can hardly expect mcdicine to solve every social, political, and economic ill of the ghetto, suburbia, and the rural areas of our country; however, we do have an important role to play and we do have an important contribution to make in our communities. These areas, large or small and wherever they may be, will not have the same medical health and manpower needs, nor the same priorities, and will continually need our individual and collective attention. The United States has more physicians per capita than all but three or four other nations.
