The prevalence of house mice (Mus musculus) Hymenolepiasis was determined in Baghdad, Iraq to study the effects of location, sex, and months on the infection rate of Hymenolepis spp. in house mice. Fifty house mice were captured from Abu Ghraib and Al-Ameriya, Baghdad, Iraq and examined for detecting parasites in laboratory in College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Baghdad. The total infection prevalence of intestinal parasites was 11 (22%) out of 50 samples, the higher prevalence was 28.57% and found in Abu Ghraib area, while lower was (13.63%) and recorded in Al-Ameriya area. The study revealed that the house mice were infected with two species of Hymenolepis: Hymenolepis nana 4 (8%) and Hymenolepis diminuta 7(14%). The intestinal parasites revealed a significance prevalence value (P<0.05). There was statistical difference in between males and females in parasites infection, in which the higher rate was 8 (27.58%) and recorded in males and the lower was 3 (14.28%) and observed in females. The monthly distribution of confirmed cases over a 9-month period revealed that reported cases of house mice and Hymenolepiasis increased significantly (P<0.01) in autumn (65.44%), followed by winter (15.38%), and summer (13.33%). The findings showed that house mice play an important role in the spread of zoonotic parasitic illnesses to people, as well as attention must pay to public health.

Background: Chickenpox is a viral disease caused by a virus called Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV). It is more prevalent among children less than 10 years. Objective: To estimate the prevalence of chickenpox among the different age groups and monthly distribution per year in Baquba city sectors recorded in Baquba teaching hospital. Patients and Methods: Data was collected of 82 patients from 1st January –31 th July 2019, and the statistical data was recorded as name, age, sectored where patients' lives. Results: Eighty-two patients with chickenpox data were collected in Baquba teaching hospital, male 52(63.4%) , and female 30(36.5%) of cases in different age groups, were highest prevalence in(9-12) years age group (30) cases, and lowest in cases older than 12 years old were (6) cases reported, t-test (2.671). Conclusion: Chickenpox more common in male, highest infections were reported in winter months. Keywords: Chickenpox, Varicella-Zoster Virus, children

In this paper an attempt has been made to study climatological characteristics and forecasting aspects of heavy rainfall over Kolkata for data of 34 years of period from 1974 to 2007. Total 184 events has been found out and the data set has been subjected to various types of analysis along with favourable synoptic system and critical index for occurrence of heavy rainfall over Kolkata. Average occurrence is found as 5.4 events per year. Monthly distribution shows maximum of 26% events in July followed by September 20%, August17% and June as 14%. Seasonal distribution naturally indicates maximum of 77% occurrence during monsoon followed by post-monsoon with 14% and pre-monsoon with 09 %. Synoptic analysis revealed that majority of heavy rainfall events occurred due to low pressure system (LPS). Study of 167 cases (during June to October) suggests that when any one of the favourable synoptic condition prevailed over the region and DPD-Wind-PW-WS index reaches a critical value, heavy to very heavy rain occurred over Kolkata and suburban areas.

This study was aimed at analysing the effect of temperature on the incidence of cerebro-spinal meningitis and its management in Funtua General Hospital of Katsina State, Nigeria from 1986-2015. For each year, monthly and annual incidence of CSM occurrence in the study area for the 30 years period was subjected to time series analysis. Linear trend line equation was fitted in order to determine the direction of change in the incidence of CSM. The relationship between temperature and the incidence of meningitis was analysed using simple correlation. To determine the management method of CSM in the area, a questionnaire was used to generate information from sampled respondents and analysed using descriptive statistics. The monthly distribution of CSM cases (1986-2015) indicated April and March had the highest incidence cases (1606 and 1128 respectively) while the lowest cases were recorded in September and October with (1 case) each. The seasonal variation also showed that the highest incidence cases fell within the hot-dry season which mark the period with the highest average temperatures while the lowest incidence cases fell within the hot-wet season when humidity is high in the area. Annual trend of CSM indicated an increasing trend (approximately 60 persons) over the 30year period in the study area. There is a significant and positive relationship between mean monthly temperature and incidence of meningitis with an observed value of (p < 0.05 and r = 0.592). The observed correlation (r = -0.141, p>0.05) indicated that there was negative and insignificant relationship between annual temperature and the incidence of meningitis in the study area. In conclusion, meningitis in the study area over the 30years under review has been a recurrent epidemic however; the rate of occurrence differs from year to year. Majority (78%) used the orthodox method to manage CSM while 22% used the traditional method who claimed it was effective as they recovered from the disease.

This paper is devoted to the discussion of the practice of storm naming that has been initiated in January 2017 for the first time in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Namely the METEO Unit at NOA, taking into consideration that storm naming facilitates meteorologists, researchers, authorities, civil protection officers, the media and citizens to communicate the forecasts of high-impact weather events, started storm naming in January 2017 and has named 35 storms up to September 2021. The criteria of storm naming are discussed, and a synopsis of the events is presented. The monthly distribution shows that 57% of the named storms occurred during the winter period, with January being the month with the highest percentage of occurrence of named storms (28%). The impact of storm naming on citizens risk perception and increased awareness has been also assessed through an internet-based questionnaire that was launched on the fourth year of the storm naming practice in Greece. Overall, results indicate a significant impact of storm naming on the readiness of citizens through the activation of perceptual and cognitive mechanisms.

Abstract Objectively, Saharan cyclones have been detected for the period from 1967 to 2019 using mean sea level pressure (SLP); their tracks have been specified from nearest neighbor cyclonic positions and classified into long/short tracks depending on the area of influence of the cyclones. Additionally, the detected long tracks have been objectively classified into five main routes directed generally eastward, northeastward and northward, accounting for approximately 41.6%, 19.7% and 30.4% of the total long tracks, respectively. Mainly for long tracks, three cyclogenesis areas, where more than 99% of cyclones are generated, were identified, with more than 61% generated in the Atlas region. Moreover, four far cyclolysis areas were identified, where approximately 74% of these cyclones terminated, with more than 66% of them terminating in the eastern study region. Furthermore, statistical analysis indicated that Saharan cyclones are commonly generated in the spring and summer, with ~35.3% and 46.3%, respectively. However, the highest numbers occur in spring in the northern Saharan and in summer in the southern Saharan, with ~49.1% and 57.7%, respectively. Temporally, the monthly distribution indicates that most of the cyclones moving along the five main routes are generated in warm months, namely, May to August. Approximately 85% of these cyclones have a lifespan of three days, while only 1% span more than five days.

Abstract Background COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 resulted in a global health crisis in 2020. Quarantining, wearing masks and physical distancing- key infection prevention strategies implemented to stop the spread of COVID-19, also led to dramatic decreases in rates of common respiratory viral infection seen in young children. Due to lack of school and daycare exposure, we evaluated a larger than usual number of patients with periodic fevers without any known infectious contacts. Based on this observation, we conducted an analysis of all suspected cases of periodic fevers seen at our institution during the COVID-19 lockdown compared to prior seasons. Methods The clinical charts were queried for all patients presenting to any Lurie Children’s Hospital outpatient specialty clinic or laboratory with ICD diagnosis code of MO4.1 and MO4.8 (all recurrent and periodic fever syndromes) from June 1, 2020 through September 30, 2020, and compared to similar months the previous 2 years (2018 and 2019). Each patient chart was reviewed by the lead investigator to verify all new diagnoses of PFAPA. The number of new patients with PFAPA diagnosis were tallied and analyzed. Statistical comparisons were made using Kruskal-Wallis tests for monthly distributions in different years. Results We noted a significant increase in patients with new PFAPA diagnosis between June through August 2020 compared to similar months in 2018 and 2019 (Figure1). Experienced pediatric infectious disease physicians and rheumatologists diagnosed majority of the cases. During these months, a monthly median (IQR) of 13 (11.5, 14.5) patients were diagnosed among different Lurie specialty clinics, which is more than 2.5 folds increase in new PFAPA patients from the previous two years which were about 5 (3.5, 6) (Figure 2). Number of Patients with New PFAPA Diagnosis There was a significant increase in number of new patients diagnosed with PFAPA between June through August 2020 compared to similar months in 2018 and 2019. Monthly Distribution Summary for New PFAPA Diagnosis Statistical comparisons were made using Kruskal- Wallis tests for monthly distributions in different years Conclusion We observed a significant increase in PFAPA patients referred to our institution soon after introduction of public health measures to slow spread of COVID-19. Given that most children were not in daycare, schools, or camps, we suspect that parents and pediatricians were able to recognize patterns of periodic fevers in children much quicker than preceding years, when fevers would typically be attributed to an infectious process. This paper tests a situational hypothesis which postulates that the number of femicides should increase as an unintended consequence of the COVID-19-related lockdowns. The monthly data on femicides from 2017 to 2020 collected in six Spanish-speaking countries—Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Panama, Mexico, and Spain—and analyzed using threshold models indicate that the hypothesis must be rejected. The total number of femicides in 2020 was similar to that recorded during each of the three previous years, and femicides did not peak during the months of the strictest lockdowns. In fact, their monthly distribution in 2020 did not differ from the seasonal distribution of femicides in any former year. The discussion criticizes the current state of research on femicide and its inability to inspire effective criminal polices. It also proposes three lines of intervention. The latter are based on a holistic approach that places femicide in the context of crimes against persons, incorporates biology and neuroscience approaches, and expands the current cultural explanations of femicide.

Abstract. Salavati B, Zahirnia AH, Nasirian H, Hamidian SA. 2021. Trend of mosquito (Diptera: Culicidae) monthly distribution in Sanandaj County of Iran. Biodiversitas 22: 4705-4715. Mosquitoes are the most significant arthropods of medical importance due to their burden of transmitting pathogens and parasites. The present study was designed to investigate the distribution of mosquitos (Diptera: Culicidae) in Sanandaj County in 2018. Sanandaj County was divided into four areas in rural and urban areas, including north, south, east, and west. Four rural and urban areas were randomly selected from four geographical directions. A sampling of larval and adult mosquitoes was performed using standard methods. The dipping technique was used to collect the mosquito larvae. A sampling of adult mosquitoes was performed during feeding on humans and animal baits and resting in the natural indoors, outdoors, and artificial areas. Light traps were also used to collect adult mosquitoes. The larval and adult specimens were identified using the morphology-based key. In total, nine mosquito species, including Anopheles maculipennis s.l., Anopheles superpictus s.l., Culiseta longiareolata, Culiseta subochrea, Culex hortensis, Culex mimeticus, Culex modestus, Culex pipiens, and Culex theileri were inhabited in Sanandaj County. The larval and adult mosquito species trend remains constant for at least 6 months of a year, from May to October. One-way ANOVA didn't reveal a significant difference between mosquito breeding places' habitats and water types, mosquito localities and life stages, monthly mosquito distribution, and adult mosquito resting places. The frequency trends of larval and adult mosquito species remain constant at least for 6 months of a year. It needs to be ready for timely mosquito control measures.

Abstract: This study examines the vehicle class distribution, hourly distribution factors, weekly distribution factors, monthly distribution factors, axle load spectra for each vehicle class, and each axle of each vehicle class for the WIM station installed on the N-55 highway to aid analysis and design of new Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide. The maximum, minimum and permissible load limit for the different vehicle class, average gross vehicle weight (GWV) and permissible load limits also being incorporated. The directional distribution for north bound and south bound traffic were observed to be almost 50% for both directions, except for 5 axle trucks which was 74% for north bound and 26% for south bound. The truck class most prevalent on the highway were identified to be 3-axle tandem truck (47.50%) and also it was observed that 94.1% of this vehicle class carried load above permissible limits.
