Interactions between infection and nutrition have been well recognized for several years now since they contribute directly to the health of individuals and communities. Malnourished individuals are specially prone to developing infections while infections themselves can lead to profound changes in the nutritional status of the individual. Health workers in developing countries in the tropics have long recognized the mutually aggravating interactions of malnutrition and infection. The importance of this synergistic relationship between infection and nu-tritional status has been studied extensively in the case of young children. The nutritional status of a young child is a critical determinant of both c morbidity and mortality resulting from a wide range of infections: bacterial, viral, or parasitic. Chandra (1983), in his review on the relationship of nutrition, immunity and infection has categorized the wide range of infectious agents (bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic) into those that are definitely, variably or minimally influenced by the nutritional status of the child.

n 2018, the average prevalence of stunting in Indonesia ranked sixth in the Asian region, at 36.4%. In the Java region, East Java ranked first with a stunting proportion of 32.81%. Malang is a district that has continued to experience an increase in the proportion of short nutritional status over the past three years: 22.9% in 2016, 28.3% in 2017 and 31.7% in 2018. Factors that affect stunting include income, education, economic status, number of family members, knowledge, exclusive breastfeeding, sanitation, clean water, health services, nutritional status of pregnant women, infections and birthweight. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of maternal nutritional status, birthweight and exclusive breastfeeding with the rate of stunting in Kedungrejo Village, Pakis District, Malang. This analytical observational study used a case–control design. The sample size of the case and control groups were 31 and 62 toddlers, respectively, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were analysed by Chi-square test. No significant relationship was seen between the maternal nutritional status and the rate of stunting (X2 value 0.151 < X 2 table 3.841), and the birthweight and the rate of stunting (X2 value 0.427 < X 2 table 3.841), however, there was a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the rate of stunting (X2 value 10.747 > X 2 table 3.841). KEK (Chronic Energy Deficiency) is a condition of the mother suffering from lack of calories and protein (malnutrition) that lasts chronic (chronic) at risk of causing complications in the mother one of which is anemia gravidarum. Anemia in pregnancy is a decrease in Hb levels, so that the carrying capacity of oxygen for the needs of vital organs in the mother and fetus is reduced. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship of KEK with anemia gravidarum in mothers with low birth weigth history. The correlation analytic research design is a case control study approach, the population is 68 mothers with low birth weight history, using simple random sampling technique, the sample is calculated using Slovin formula, the number of 58 low birth weight history mothers fulfills the inclusion criteria. The research instrument used observation sheets to look at secondary data on cohorts of pregnant women, data analysis using the chi square test obtained a p value of 0, 001 means that p <0.05 indicates the relationship of KEK with anemia gravidarum in women with low birth weight history with a close relationship is sufficient. The value of the Contingency Coefficient in the Chronic Energy Deficiency variable is 0.39, which means that the relationship between KEK and anemia gravidarum is sufficient. The Odds Ratio (OR) value in the Chronic Energy Deficiency variable is 6.9, which means that pregnant women with nutritional status of Chronic Energy Deficiency have a 6.9 times greater risk of anemia during pregnancy than those who are not. Inadequate nutritional needs have a greater risk of anemia during pregnancy and the risk of giving birth to Low Birth Weight Babies. Researchers suggest providing counseling to women of adolescence, women of childbearing age and especially pregnant women so that they can add more information about the importance of nutritional status in pregnant women, the dangers of anemia during pregnancy and also the importance of consuming blood booster tablets during pregnancy. So that it is expected to reduce the incidence of anemia pregnant women case and low birth weight history.

Babies born at LBW (Low Body Event) are at risk of disrupting the growth and development of the baby, as well as the occurrence of hypertension, heart disease and diabetes in old age. One of the factors causing LBW is the condition of CED (Chronic Energy Deficiency) experienced by mothers during pregnancy. The highest prevalence of LBW in Kuningan Regency in 2018 is in the working area of the Manggari Community Health Center, which is 11.8% with the prevalence of pregnant women CED 10.1%. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of maternal CED status during pregnancy with LBW events. The study design uses case control from cohort registers of pregnant women. The total sample of the study were 114 infants, consisting of 38 cases and 76 controls who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results of the statistical analysis of the Chi-Square test, obtained p value = 0.002 and OR = 4.317 (95% CI: 1.776-10.495) which means that there is a significant relationship between the status of CED during pregnancy with LBW events, where pregnant women CED risk 4.317 times higher for LBW delivery compared to pregnant women who are not CED. The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between the status of CED of mothers during pregnancy with the incidence of LBW.

Abstrak   Latar belakang:  Status  gizi  perempuan  di  Indonesia  cenderung  memburuk.  Hasil  Riset  Kesehatan  Dasar (Riskesdas) menunjukkan bahwa kekurangan energi kronis (KEK) pada wanita usia reproduksi meningkat dari 13,6 persen pada 2007 menjadi 20,8 persen pada 2013. Ibu hamil yang kekurangan gizi akan berdampak buruk pada bayinya. Tujuan: Memperoleh determinan status gizi kurang yaitu KEK dan Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) rendah dari wanita hamil di Indonesia pada tahun 2013. Metode: Penelitian menggunakan data Riskesdas 2013. Analisis dilakukan dengan multivariat regresi logistik. Jumlah sampel adalah 7236 ibu hamil. Ibu hamil dikatakan KEK jika pertengahan lingkar lengan atas (LILA) < 23,5 cm dan IMT diukur dengan pendekatan metode Broca. Hasil: Determinan ibu hamil KEK dan IMT rendah adalah tinggal di perdesaan (AOR 1,20; 95% CI [1,11-1,13]), usia <20 tahun (AOR 1,62; 95% CI [1,60-1,65]), paritas 1 anak (AOR 2,04; 95% CI [2,02-2,06]), berpendidikan rendah (AOR 1,92; 95% CI [0,91-0,93]) dan status ekonomi rendah (AOR 3,36; 95% CI [3,31- 3,41]). Kesimpulan: Pendidikan harus ditingkatkan minimal hingga sekolah menengah atas sehingga pengetahuan gizi ibu meningkat dan kehamilan dini dapat dicegah. Ibu dengan status ekonomi rendah harus menjadi prioritas dalam pelayanan ibu dan upaya intervensi gizi.   Kata kunci: Sosial ekonomi, lingkar lengan atas, KEK, BMI, gizi ibu hamil.     Abstract   Background: The nutritional status of women in Indonesia tends to worsen. Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) showed that chronic energy deficiency (CED) among women of reproductive age increased from 13.6 percent in 2007 to 20.8 percent in 2013. Pregnant women who are lack of nutrition will have an impact on their babies. Objective: To determine the determinants of poor nutritional status which are CED and low body mass index (BMI) of pregnant women in Indonesia. Method: This study used 2013 Riskesdas data. The analysis was done using multivariate logistic regression. The total  sample  was 7236  pregnant  women.  Pregnant  women  with CED are those who  have mid-upper  arm circumference (MUAC) of less than 23.5 cm and BMI was measured by the Broca method approach. Results: The determinants of pregnant women with CED and low BMI are living in rural area (AOR 1.20; 95% CI [1.11-1.13]), age of <20 years (AOR 1.62; 95% CI [1.60-1.65]), having 1 child (AOR 2.04; 95% CI [2.02- 2.06]), having low education (AOR 1.92; 95% CI [0.91-0.93]) and low economic status (AOR 3.36; 95% CI [3.31- 3.41]). Conclusion: Education must be improved to at least high school degree, so that the mother's nutritional knowledge will increase, and early pregnancy will be prevented. One that affects fetal growth is the nutrition of pregnant women because during pregnancy the mother must meet the rapid growth needs of the fetus, and so that the output of the pregnancy is successful and perfect. But until now there are still many pregnant women who experience nutritional problems, especially malnutrition, such as Chronic Energy Deficiency (SEZ). The number of pregnant women experiencing SEZs in the Pantoloan Community Health Center Working Area in 2016 was a total of 67 pregnant women who delivered 8 LBWs. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of the incidence of low birth weight babies with a history of chronic energy-deficient pregnant women in the work area of Pantoloan Health Center. This research is an Analytical type with Cros Sectional research design with a population of 252 babies born in 2010 in the Work Area of Pantoloan Health Center. Sampling uses the Total Sampling technique. The criteria for the sample are taken if you have birth weight and maternal LILA data during pregnancy, if the data is incomplete, it is not sampled. Samples that meet the requirements are 52 babies. The results showed that pregnant women who experienced SEZ 32 people (61.5%), and LBW as many as 8 babies (15.4%). There was a significant relationship between the incidence of LBW and a history of SEZ pregnant women (p = 0.0017). The conclusion, that the better the nutritional status of pregnant women during pregnancy, the better the weight of the baby will be born. It is recommended for Pantoloan Health Center to improve health education programs about nutrition, and take LILA measurements regularly for pregnant women.

Background : The need during pregnancy affects the nutritional status of pregnant women due to lack of intake in one of the substances will lead to the need for something impaired nutrients and the need for nutrients that are not constant during gestation. Unbalanced nutritional consumption in pregnant women will result in nutritional problems such as chronic energy deficiency (KEK) that will allow miscarriage, premature birth, BBLR and bleeding after childbirth.Objective : knowing the knowledge of pregnant mothers about chronic energy deficiency in Kebondalem Lor District Puskesmas Klaten Regency.Methods : This research is a descriptive analytic with a crosssectional approach. Population is all expectant mothers in Kebondalem Lor District Puskesmas in Klaten Regency as much as 167 people. Sampling with sample clusters obtained 42 respondents. Instruments using Quesioner contain knowledge of expectant mothers about chronic energy deficiency. Univariic data analysis is the frequency distribution of pregnant women knowledge about KEK, where the research results are conducted interpretation of the data of the question ite m by calculating the answer percentage.Result : From 42 expectant mothers of pregnant women knowledge about chronic energy deficiency are largely a good as much as 18 people (42.9%) and a small portion of respondents 9 people (21.4%) Less knowledgeable.Conclusion : The knowledge of pregnant women about chronic energy deficiency in the area of KebondalemLor District, Klaten Regency most are knowledgeable well.

The health status during the preconception period was important to prepare pregnancy. Living patterns that can affect diet quality and nutritional status. This study aimed to analyze the differences in diet quality, nutritional status, and anemia between preconception women in rural and urban areas. This study was conducted using a cross-sectional design that consisted of 68 brides aged 16-35 years selected by consecutive sampling. Diet quality was obtained by diet quality index international (DQI-I) form. Nutritional status based on body mass index (BMI) and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC). Hemoglobin levels were measured by the cyanmethemoglobin method. Data were analyzed by Independent T-test and Mann Whitney. Subjects in rural and urban areas had low diet quality. The score of variation in the type of protein intake, total fat, and saturated fat was higher in rural areas than urban areas (p=0,001; p=0,013; p=0,002). The mean BMI and MUAC were higher in urban subjects than rural subjects but the hemoglobin levels of rural subjects were higher than urban subjects. The subjects of anemia in urban was 23,5 percent were higher than rural was 14,7 percent but the risk of chronic energy deficiency in rural was 55,9% were higher than urban was 11,8 percent. There were no differences in diet quality and hemoglobin levels between preconception women in rural and urban areas (p=0,990; p=0,116). There were a differences in BMI and MUAC (p=0,026; p=<0,001). There were differences in nutritional status based on BMI and MUAC in both areas. There were no differences in diet quality and hemoglobin levels in rural and urban areas

Anthropological methods of assessing nutritional status of adults have been reinvestigated. Objective of the study is to detect the predictor variables that discriminate for under nutrition or Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) by two conventional methods e.g. Body Mass Index (BMI) and Mid Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC). Discriminant function analysis was used to build valid and accurate predictive model for evaluating nutritional status. Anthropometric measurements were collected using standard techniques and used as independent variables. Recommended cut-off values of BMI and MUAC was used for evaluating nutritional status. The extent of CED (BMI < 18.5) was found 43.50% and prevalence of under-nutrition in terms of MUAC (MUAC < 23.0 cm for Male and < 22.0 cm for Female) was 21.7%. Discriminant function analysis reveals that 85.7% and 72.0% individuals were classified correctly in terms of nutritional status. Therefore, BMI is the good indicator for detecting malnutrition. Fat mass discriminates between groups.

 Background: Chronic Energy  Deficiency, and Anemia in pregnancy have become two the indirect and major causes of maternal and infant mortality cases in Indonesia. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of age, gestational age, gravida on Chronic Energy Deficiency occurrence and anemia. Methods: . The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of age, gravida, and work status on Chronic Energy Deficiency occurrence and Anemia.Results: The results showed that unemployed mothers had a probability of 0.824 times for Chronic Energy Deficiency compared with working mothers, multigravidal mothers had a probability of 1.021 times for Chronic Energy Deficiency compared with primigravida mothers, and 3,200 times for Chronic Energy Deficiency compared with primigravida mothers. Pregnant women <20 years of age have an anemia risk of 2.250 times compared with age 20-35 years, and age> 35 years have anemia risk 5.885 times greater than the age of 20-35 years. Unhealthy mothers and mothers who have risk of Anemia 1.990 greater than pregnant women who work.Conclusion: The conclusion of this research is that there is influence of work status, primigravida to Chronic Energy Deficiency occurrence, and there is influence of age, working status, and gravida on occurrence Anemia in pregnant mother. Advice for pregnant women is to conduct counseling to health workers on a regular basis and meet the nutritional needs during pregnancy according to the advice of health workers to prevent the occurrence of Chronic Energy Deficiency and anemia during pregnancy.ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Proporsi ibu hamil dengan KEK di Indonesia berdasarkan Riset Kesehatan Dasar mengalami peningkatan yaitu pada tahun 2010 sebesar 33,5% meningkat menjadi 38,5% pada tahun 2013.  Tujuan: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh umur, gravida, dan status  bekerja  terhadap kejadian KEK dan Anemia pada ibu hamil.  Metode: Penelitian cross-sectional ini melibatkan 153 ibu hamil yang periksa selama bulan Januari-Desember 2014 sebagai sampel. Sampel ini dipilih secara acak dengan menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Pengaruh antar variabel dianalisis menggunakan uji Logistic Regression (α = 0,05).  Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ibu yang tidak bekerja memiliki kemungkinan 0,824 kali untuk mengalami KEK dibandingkan dengan ibu yang bekerja, ibu multigravida memiliki kemungkinan 1,021 kali untuk mengalami KEK dibandingkan dengan ibu primigravida, dan 3,200 kali untuk mengalami KEK dibandingkan dengan ibu primigravida, . Ibu hamil yang berumur < 20 tahun memiliki resiko mengalami Anemia 2,250 kali dibandingkan dengan umur 20-35 tahun, dan usia > 35 tahun memiliki resiko mengalami Anemia 5,885 kali lebih besar dibandingkan dengan usia 20-35 tahun. Ibu yang tidak bekerja memiliki resiko mengalami Anemia 1,990 lebih besar dibandingkan dengan ibu hamil yang bekerja.Kesimpulan: Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat pengaruh status bekerja, primigravida terhadap kejadian KEK, dan terdapat pengaruh umur, status bekerja, dan gravida  terhadap kejadian Anemia pada ibu hamil. Saran untuk ibu hamil adalah untuk melakukan konseling kepada petugas kesehatan secara teratur dan memenuhi kebutuhan nutrisinya selama hamil sesuai saran petugas kesehatan untuk mencegah terjadinya KEK dan anemia pada masa kehamilan.
