I endeavor to share how various choices—some deliberate, some unconscious—and the unmistakable influence of many others shaped my scientific pursuits. I am fascinated by how two long-term, major streams of my research, DNA replication and purine biosynthesis, have merged with unexpected interconnections. If I have imparted to many of the talented individuals who have passed through my lab a degree of my passion for uncloaking the mysteries hidden in scientific research and an understanding of the honesty and rigor it demands and its impact on the world community, then my mentorship has been successful.

Bacterial infections remain a major threat to the world community in terms of both morbidity and mortality. Indeed, bacterial infections are accountable for millions of fatalities around the globe. Additionally, these bacterial infections represent a notable burden, in particular, for children living in less-developed regions of the world. There are a numbers of classes of antibiotics for the treatment of these complicated and uncomplicated infections. But most of them are struggling with the current challenge of resistance. Obviously, resistance to current antibiotic is a global issue as greatly caused therapeutic outcome and patient compliance. The current researchers are looking towards natural product specially plant-based product for effective and long term solutions. In this regard, alkaloids represent a very important therapeutic class of natural products with clinical significance. The review describes the antibacterial profile of plant based alkaloids. Alkaloid acts as an emerging therapy for bacterial infections by inhibiting a broad range of gram positive and gram negative bacteria that were mostly resistant to current therapies. It was concluded that these alkaloids could be useful and effective therapeutic alternative to existing therapies that are extensively facing challenges of resistance. The current need is to focus on the clinical and safety aspects of these reported preclinical studies. Thus, it could be expected that plant alkaloids will be the popular drugs of future.

This article focuses on the effects of climate on human health. There is information about the diseases that affect the health of the local population due to the climatic features of Bukhara, as well as scientific research in this area. Human health is one of the most important issues for every period of society’s development. Indeed, the level of health and literacy of the population living in the region determine the state of development of any country. These two indicators reflect the role of states in the world community and their socio-economic potential. Each season is distinguished in terms of its natural features by the outbreak of certain diseases or the temporary cessation of some of their vital activities. In particular, due to a sharp drop in temperature in winter, infectious diseases are reduced, while in humans, due to sudden changes in temperature, colds increase. This, in turn, leads to the opposite.

Сurrently, we are witnessing the reaction of the world community to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are also observing how subjects in all areas of the economy respond to current challenges using innovative approaches. Urban passenger transport is one of the most important factors in the development of the economy and social life of the population. Restoring transport infrastruc-ture is a long-term and time-consuming process. Modeling transport systems is key to understand-ing how quickly and effectively the transport system adapts to new realities after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. If until recently, models were created with an eye to 20 years, at present their relevance is barely enough for 5 years due to the unpredictability of the behavior of transport us-ers. Passenger traffic will decrease, which may increase the popularity of walking and сycling.

Drug addiction remains one of the most important problems for the world community. With the existing growth in the number of drug users around the world, an important task is to analyze the number of drug users in different territories, their age and gender structure in order to plan effective preventive work and the possibility of preventing the spread of parenterally transmitted diseases (HIV infection, parenteral viral hepatitis). This study analyzes the dynamics of the drug use incidence in Minsk over a 10-year period of time (2010-2019). It was found that the incidence of drug use in 2010-2019 in Minsk fluctuated between 149.26 о / оооо in 2019-266.76 о / оооо in 2012, and the average long-term incidence was 207.44 cases per 100,000 population. The long-term epidemic trend of drug use was significant to decrease with an average growth rate of -7.48% (p < 0.01). The beginning of the analyzed time interval (2010-2013) was characterized by an increase in the drug users number, which can be regarded as a predictor of a sharp increase in the number of detected HIV cases in 2015 in Minsk. In the age structure of drug users in Minsk, persons aged 26-30 have the largest share. On average, every 5th drug user is a woman.

Cruel and inhumane acts that harm human life and health, as well as humiliate the dignity, are prohibited in most countries of the world, and Russia is no exception in this issue. The article presents an analysis of the institution of responsibility for torture in the Russian Federation. The author comes to the conclusion that the current criminal law of Russia superficially and fragmentally regulates liability for torture, in connection with which the author formulated the proposals to define such act as an independent crime. In the frame of modern globalization, the world community pays special attention to the protection of human rights, in connection with which large-scale international standards have been created a long time ago. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international acts enshrine prohibitions of cruel and inhumane acts that harm human life and health, as well as degrade the dignity.Considering the historical experience of the past, these standards focus on the prohibition of any kind of torture, regardless of the purpose of their implementation.
