ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of 10% copaiba oil in experimentally induced wounds in horses. Four wounds were made in the lumbar and metacarpal regions of eight adult horses. In the treatment group, the wounds received 10% copaiba oil and in the control group 0.9% sodium chloride, in the daily dressing for 21 days. The wounds were evaluated three, 7, 14, and 21 days postoperatively. No significant differences were observed between the groups. The mean lumbar wound contraction rates were 80.54% and 69.64%, for the control and treated groups, respectively. For the wounds in the metacarpal region, these averages were 44.15% and 52.48%, respectively. Under the experimental conditions of the present study, it is concluded that 10% copaiba oil has beneficial in wound healing in the equine species and suggest that copaiba oil can be used as a therapeutic possibility in equine wound therapy.

Backgrounds: : Inthe past few years, clinicians worldwide have been using honey for wound treatment. But until now, there was no such standard on method of honey application on wound. In our center, honey was applied on wound by once a day application and the result was observationally satisfactory. What if application of honey were done once every two days? Would the result become more satisfactory? This study aims to search honey application method, which gives the best result on wound treatment. Methods: This is single-blinded non-randomize clinical trial, which was conduscted in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital Jakarta from July until September 2012. 14 Patients with acute partial thickness wound resulted from STSG harvesting were involved in this study. Patients were devided into 2 groups: control (once every two days application of honey) and the rate of wound healing were evaluated. Rate of wound healing will be assessed as number of percentage of reduced non-epithelialized areas on the seventh day of application. Results: The mean percentage of non-epithelialized area reduction on treatment gruop was 86,76% and 97,97% on control group. There was significant difference on percentage of reduced area between control and treatment group (p<0,00). Conclusion: There was statistically signi!cant difference between once a day and once every two days application of honey. However, changing of honey dressing once a day is still a preferable method in wound treatment.

This study was initiated on 24 prepubertal Holstein x Kankrej crossbred heifers of nearly identical age (7-9 months) and body weight (130-140 kg) at University farm to evaluate the effect of high plane of nutrition on blood biochemical and minerals profile and the age at puberty. Twelve heifers were managed under routine farm feeding (control) and the rest 12 under ideal optimum feeding regime (treatment) that included extra 1 kg concentrate, 30 g min mix and ad-lib dry fodder. The body weight and ovarian ultrasonography together with blood sampling was carried out at monthly interval from 10 to 18 months of age to study the ovarian dynamics and blood biochemical changes. High plane of nutrition to growing heifers was beneficial in reducing the age of onset of puberty (by 2-3 months) compared to routine farm fed group. The mean plasma total protein and cholesterol concentrations showed a rising trend with significant variations from 10 to 16 months of age, where it got mostly stabilized indicating adult profile. The activity of enzymes GOT and GPT also rose gradually and significantly from 10 months till 14-15 months of age, and thereafter it remained more or less static till 18 months of age. The levels of both these enzymes were higher, with lower protein and cholesterol, in control than the treatment group from 15-16 months of age onwards. The mean plasma levels of both calcium and phosphorus increased gradually and significantly with advancing age till 16-17 months of age, with little higher values in supplemented than a control group. The plasma levels of zinc, iron, copper, and cobalt also showed rising trend with significant differences between 10th and 12th-14th months of age, and from 15th to 18th months of age the levels were statistically the same in all the groups with slightly higher values in the treatment group.

Background: Anal fistula is one of the most common colorectal and perirectal diseases in the world. Cuyuxunxi (CYXX) prescription is an efficient herbal fumigant used to promote the surgical wound healing of anal fistulas. Objective: This study aimed to explore the underlying molecular mechanism of CYXX prescription on surgical wound healing of anal fistulas. Methods: Ten patients with anal fistula were randomized into a control group or treatment group. The wound surface of patients in the control group was rinsed by normal saline, while that in the treatment group was rinsed by CYXX prescription. The wound tissues of patients with anal fistulas seven days after the surgery were collected for hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and RNA sequencing. The expressions of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were validated by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). Results: HE staining showed that CYXX treatment reduced the infiltration of inflammatory cells. A total of 472 DEGs, including 141 up-regulated genes and 331 down-regulated genes, were identified. These genes were significantly related to skin development, xenobiotic stimulus, and inflammation. In addition, the consistency rate of RT-qPCR and sequencing results was 83.33%, which showed a high relative reliability of the sequencing results. Conclusion: CYXX prescription could improve epidermis repair and reduce inflammatory responses.

Background: A Kader refers to a Village Health Worker (VHW), a volunteer, which becomes one of the sources of community reference. Commonly, they sustain a mother's knowledge regarding adequate complementary feeding. However, there are still some VHW who have not possessed a health education background nor been able to be independent.Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the impact of collaborative models on VHW's competence as in knowledge, self-efficacy, attitudes, and counseling skill on the topic of complementary feeding.Materials and Methods: The design of this research is a quasi-experiment control group pretest-postest, with the retrieval of subjects using purposive sampling. Subjects were selected based on the location of the posyandu. The population in this research was VHWs in the Lembang district were 40 VHWs in each group. The treatment group was given training intervention for 1 month with a collaborative model, combining several methods into a series. The main topic was counseling and complementary feeding. The control group was given booklets and leaflets. VHW's competence was measured using questionnaires. This research was conducted in January-April 2020.Results: Statistical test results before the treatment of both groups showed no difference (p>0,05) in each variable. Two months after the intervention, there were significant differensces in the mean score of knowledge (p=0,001), attitude (p=0,001), and VHWs self-efficacy (p=0,000) in both groups. VHW counseling skills (p=0,149) until the first month there was not a significant difference. Unexpectedly, in the second month, the VHW counseling skills could not be observed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The mean score of each group increased significantly, but the score of the treatment group was higher than the control group.Conclusions: A collaborative model is effective when compared to only providing booklets and leaflets in increasing VHW's knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy but not effective yet for VHW counseling skills.

The soybean aphid Aphis glycines Matsumura (Hemiptera: Aphididae) is a primary pest of soybeans and poses a serious threat to soybean production. Our studies were conducted to understand the effects of different concentrations of insecticides (imidacloprid and thiamethoxam) on A. glycines and provided critical information for its effective management. Here, we found that the mean generation time and adult and total pre-nymphiposition periods of the LC50 imidacloprid- and thiamethoxam-treatment groups were significantly longer than those of the control group, although the adult pre-nymphiposition period in LC30 imidacloprid and thiamethoxam treatment groups was significantly shorter than that of the control group. Additionally, the mean fecundity per female adult, net reproductive rate, intrinsic rate of increase, and finite rate of increase of the LC30 imidacloprid-treatment group were significantly lower than those of the control group and higher than those of the LC50 imidacloprid-treatment group (P < 0.05). Moreover, both insecticides exerted stress effects on A. glycines, and specimens treated with the two insecticides at the LC50 showed a significant decrease in their growth rates relative to those treated with the insecticides at LC30. These results provide a reference for exploring the effects of imidacloprid and thiamethoxam on A. glycines population dynamics in the field and offer insight to agricultural producers on the potential of low-lethal concentrations of insecticides to stimulate insect reproduction during insecticide application.

Background: The incidence of burns in Indonesia progressively increases with the increase in its population and industries. From January to September 2000, 158 patients were treated in the burn unit of Dr Soetomo Hospital with a mortality rate reaching 5,8%. Burns have a direct effect in causing both local and systemic changes in the body, not occurring in other injuries. In severe burns, a hypermetabolic state can occur, which increases cardiac workload and causes muscle atrophy and other morbidities. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of propranolol on the hypermetabolic state in severely burned patients by measuring various clinical & laboratory parameters.Methods : This is an experimental study using pre and post test control group design with the objective of assessing the treatment outcome with oral propranolol given in 15 consecutive days for burn patients involving 25%- 60% TBSA. Measurements were taken three times, on day 0, 7 and 14.Results : Obtained 16 samples divided into 2 groups. In the treatment group, there was a significant decrease in CRP levels on days 0, 7 and 14 (p <0.05). The Mid Arm Circumference variable did not obtain a significant decreasing on days 0, 7 and 14. The albumin level studied showed a significant decreasing on day 0 & 7 days with a value of p = 0.045. From the comparison between the two groups, there were significant differences in CRP levels on days 0 & 14, with the mean value of the treatment group -5.12 + 2.88 and the mean value of the control group 2.86 + 7.37, and the value of p = 0.019.Conclusions: This study successfully proved that the administration of propranolol can overcome the effects of hypermetabolism which is characterized by decreasing in CRP levels.

The wound healing process of the soft tissue aims to accelerate the closing of the wound by recurring, restoring the function, and minimizing the scar tissue. This process has to occur in the surgery process to obtain better-wound healing. The aim of this study was to know the stimulation effect of the wound dressing to accelerate the wound healing process of the soft tissue using Collagen (amino acid) and Amnion (proteinase inhibitors). This true experimental study was done to 36 mice (Sprague Dawley) that were divided into three different groups, two groups were the treatment groups and one group was the control group. Each group was adapted in Pathology Laboratory of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Bogor Agricultural University. All of the mice were injured on the skin by incising the right side of the back for 2 cm in length and 4 mm in depth and then cleaned with 0.9% NaCl solution. To the first group of treatment, the wound was applicated by Amnion, and the second group was applicated by Collagen. Each 4 mice of all group were a termination by ether and encryption on the wounded tissue was conducted on day 3rd, 7th, and 14th. Assessment for a number of fibroblast and collagen synthesis on the wound of back tissue was conducted with the histological examination by painted using hematoxylin-eosin. The results concluded that Collagen application was influencing the mean of fibroblast higher than Amnion, and the lowest was controlled with statistically significant. The mean of collagen used Collagen lower than Amnion, and the lowest was control with statistically significant. It could be concluded that collagen application was preeminent in increasing the productivity of the fibroblast, as well as in developing forms of the collagen synthesis compared with Amnion and control.

As a result of IDD is the occurrence of impaired child growth makes researchers interested in conducting research on "Provision of iodized salt, food counseling about the source of iodine and goitrogenic substances with urinary iodine excretion status in elementary school children". Research on IDD is often carried out in primary school-age children, aged 6-12 years because of their vulnerability to iodine deficiency. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of iodized salt interventions and counseling patterns of iodized and goitrogenic food consumption patterns on levels of urinary yodiun excretion in families with elementary school children. Research methods: The design of this study included quasi-experimental using a specific design that is "pre and post test control group design". The study population was elementary school children with a sample size of 30 children aged 9 -12 years in each group. Data collected included the consumption of nutrients by the 24-hour recall method, the results of urine iodine examination by the spectrophotometric method. The collected data is then analyzed with an independent sample T test. The results showed there were differences in urinary yodiun excretion levels in the two groups (treatment and control), while the mean in the treatment group before intervention was 106.97 ug / L and after the intervention was 43.19 ug / L. Whereas in the control group, the level of urinary yodiun excretion before intervention was 117.30 μg / L and after the intervention was 243.19 μg / L. The mean of respondents who consumed goitrogenic sources in the treatment group before the intervention (Yes = 63%, No = 37%), after the intervention (Yes = 23%, No = 77%). Whereas in the Control group before the intervention (Yes = 56%, No = 73%), after the intervention (Yes = 23%, No = 77%). The average amount of protein consumption before treatment was 47.91 µg/L ± 6.54 and 50.15 µg/L ± 12.52 after treatment. For consumption, an increase with a mean before treatment was 89.88 µg/L ± 38.45 and after treatment was 113 µg/L ± 26. The results of the independent sample t-test showed that in the treatment group there was no significant difference between after and before the intervention (p = 0.058). Whereas in the control group there were significant differences between before and after the intervention (p = 0.002). It can be concluded that there are many factors that need to be controlled in the provision of interventions, especially the use, type of salt and goitronic as well as the method of examination of iodine analysis in urine. Split-thickness skin grafting (STSG) is widely used to heal wounds resulting from trauma, burns, and chronic wounds. This study aimed to determine the true effect of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) on patients with burn wounds requiring STSG during treatment of donor wounds. This randomized, triple-blind clinical trial was conducted on patients who referred to the burn ward of Vasei Hospital of Sabzevar, Iran, from May 2017 to May 2018. The donor site was randomly divided into 2 groups: PRF and control (Vaseline petrolatum gauze) using Vaseline gauze. In the intervention group, the PRF gel was applied to the wound and covered with Vaseline gauze and wet dressing. Conversely, only Vaseline gauze and wet dressing were applied to the control group. Outcome evaluation was conducted using paired t test and Wilcoxon signed rank-sum test, as appropriate, on days 8 and 15. The mean age of the patients was 33.10 ± 2.60 years, and 51.50% were male. The mean wound healing time in the PRF and control groups was 11.80 ± 3.51 and 16.30 ± 4.32 days, respectively ( P < .001). The PRF group showed significantly higher wound healing rates than the control group at 8 and 15 days dressing ( P < .001 and P < .001, respectively). Moreover, the mean wound healing for all wound healing indices diagnosed by 2 specialists in PRF was higher than control group on days 8 and 15 ( P < .001). We found a statistically significant difference on days 8 and 15 regarding the mean pain levels between the 2 groups ( P < .001). The findings showed that PRF can significantly increase the time and rate of donor wound healing compared with conventional treatment and also reduce the severity of pain.

Abstract In this study, we aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effects of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on deep partial-thickness burns in Bama pigs. Deep partial-thickness burn wounds were created on the back of Bama pigs. The reepithelialization time was compared between the PRP and control groups. The mean score of Ki67 (+) cells and α-SMA (+) vessels, the mean thickness of epidermis and dermis of the healing wounds were determined via H&E staining and immunohistochemical assay. The levels of the growth factors epidermal growth factor (EGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were examined by ELISA. Our data showed that the time to wound reepithelialization was shorter in the PRP group compared with the control group. The thickness of the epidermis was larger in the PRP group compared with the control group. On the 7th and 14th days after the treatment, the mean score of Ki67 (+) cells and α-SMA (+) vessels were higher in the PRP group compared with the control group. The PRP group showed higher levels of growth factors (EGF, bFGF, and VEGF) compared with the control group by ELISA. The results indicated that PRP could improve wound healing process of deep partial-thickness burns in Bama pigs. The PRP increased the thickness of epidermis of the healed wounds, cell proliferation, and angiogenesis. We demonstrated that applying PRP had a greater potential for the treatment of deep partial-thickness burns.
