Purpose – Power distance describes a central facet of national culture, because it influences the acceptance and endorsement of job characteristics related to status and power. This has major implications for international human resource management, because the importance of different situational job characteristics for employee job satisfaction should differ across cultures. The purpose of this paper is to analyse if and how national power distance levels moderate different situational job characteristics’ influence on job satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach – The authors refer to three approaches to culture: the frameworks of Hofstede and GLOBE as well as to current scores provided in a meta-analysis. The empirical findings are derived using regression analyses on a sample covering 16 nations. Findings – The results are convincing regarding the basic job satisfaction driver model not involving culture. However, the results on power distance’s impact as well as its moderating role are strongly dependent on the culture concepts utilised. The authors provide an analysis of differences along the measurements behind the different concepts. Originality/value – The authors can conclude that national differences in job satisfaction, as found in various studies, are a result of differences in situational dispositions to work life rather than a result of different cultural surroundings in terms of power distance. The question is whether this is due to power distance’s lack of impact or due to other factors, such as the difficulties of measuring culture. The authors discuss the differences which are due to different measurements. For ultimately confirming power distance’s moderating role and for advancing theorizing in this field, further research, which can build on the framework offered in this paper, is needed that directly measures the individual power distance facets in addition to the job characteristics and satisfaction values.

The quality of training is an important issue and is of special concern to universities. Lecturers has a pioneering role in innovation of higher education management since the quality of higher education is always associated with the quality of lecturers. Assessing job satisfaction of lecturers is a fundamental step for universities to improve quality and job satisfaction of lecturers as well as attract and retain qualified lecturers. This study aims at assessing job satisfaction of lecturers in Vietnamese universities. For the purpose of this study, quantitative research method was applied. The questionnaires were sent randomly to 131 lecturers from 48 universities in Vietnam via email and google doc. Then, data was analyzed by various tool including descriptive statistics, frequency, exploratory factor analysis and multiple regression analysis. The study examined four factors affecting lecturer job satisfaction include Facilities, Job Characteristics, Salaries and Fringe Benefits, Development Opportunities. Specifically, Job Characteristics have the strongest impact on lecturer job satisfaction while Salary and Fringe Benefits have the smallest impact on lecturer job satisfaction. The research on factors affecting job satisfaction of lecturers helps universities to develop appropriate policies in order to maintain and develop lecturers, as well as attract talents and prevent the “brain drain”.

Although a considerable amount of research has been devoted to the formation of turnover intentions, the influence of pride in personal performance (PP), which is one of the most frequently felt workplace emotions, has been largely neglected. Employing a three-stage study design, this article explores how PP develops and how it affects turnover intentions among frontline employees. First, relying on affective events theory, a prestudy that employs a qualitative diary approach was performed to empirically identify work events that are the primary causes of PP. The prestudy was followed by Study 1, which applied a quantitative research design to determine which job characteristics promote these events. Finally, Study 2 utilized three-wave panel data of frontline employees to investigate the effects of PP on turnover intentions. The findings of the latter study confirm that PP triggers two processes that contrarily affect turnover intentions: (1) PP enhances job satisfaction, which decreases turnover intentions, and (2) PP increases self-efficacy, which enhances turnover intentions. However, further analyses reveal that the latter effect is not relevant for highly satisfied employees and that overall, increasing PP results in decreasing turnover intentions, suggesting that companies should foster PP to retain their frontline employees.

How healthy is working? How healthy is working? This article aims at gaining more insight in the effect of labour market participation on health in the Dutch context. The positive relation between labour market participation and health has often been emphasized in the policy discussions. However, existing research insufficiently takes into account the reciprocal relationship between labour market participation and health. In this article, we control for the role of background variables which are likely to influence both labour market participation and health by using panel techniques. We use data from the Dutch Labour Supply Panel (formerly called ‘OSA Work Supply Panel’). We find that the statement that ‘work is good for your health’ should be nuanced. Our results show that the effect of labour market participation on health is dependent on characteristics of the individual, weekly working time, job characteristics, and non-paid activities and the possibility to combine those with paid work, and available types of non-work.

Abstract This study proposes a mechanism to explain the effect of core job characteristics and selfefficacy on job satisfaction of online businesses in the city of Jambi. Previous research indicates that there are motivational factors that contribute to explaining the mechanism. This study aims to examine the effect of core job characteristics and self-efficacy positively and directly on job satisfaction. In addition, this study also aims to examine the effects of motivation mediation on the influence of core job characteristics and self-efficacy on job satisfaction. The study was conducted by survey method, with the research instrument in the form of an online questionnaire. A sample of 100 online business people in the city of Jambi. The data collection method is carried out by distributing questionnaires to respondents who are online businesses with various types of business. The unit of analysis in this study is the individual. The method of data analysis uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the help of AMOS 22.0 software. The results showed that motivation partially mediates the effect of core job characteristics and self-efficacy on job satisfaction of online businesses in the city of Jambi. Key words: Core Job Characteristics, Self Efficacy, Motivation, Job Satisfaction

This research examines the connection between classroom learning environment and individual instruction methods in the context of the reform known as “New Horizon”. Within this framework of individual instruction, teachers are given opportunities to experiment with various innovative teaching methods and in the process, motivate students and strengthen the personal relationship. Communication and a positive relationship between teachers and the students in the group may contribute to the improvement of the learning environment in the classroom as a whole.

The quantitative research was conducted within the framework of a correlative study among 60 teachers (98.3% women and 1.7% men); all of them provide individual instruction to students in first through sixth grade in three elementary schools located in Haifa and other areas in the north. The sample included home room teachers (53.3%), subject teachers (36.7%) and grade coordinators (1.7%). The age of the participating teachers ranged from twenty seven to fifty two years old. Their tenure in teaching, between two and thirty two years; they took part in the New Horizon reform program for one to eight years.
The teachers were asked to complete questionnaires; one measured the teaching methods of the individual instruction sessions, the second examined nurturing the best learning environment in this setting.

On the basis of engineering and design surveys of the building, engineering-geological and geophysical studies of the soils of the territory conducted by the article authors, as well as with due regard for the results of studies conducted on this territory by other authors, the features of the foundations, soils of their foundation and engineering-geological conditions of the territory of the Melnikov House are established. It is shown that the Melnikov house is located under complex engineering-geological conditions on the territory of high geological risk, in the zone of influence of tectonic disturbance. To the North of the area there is a zone of intersection of the observed disturbance with a larger disturbance that can have an impact on geological processes. To the North-East of the site of the Melnikov House, a sharp immersion of the roof of carbon deposits was revealed. It promotes groundwater seepage into limestone of the carbonate strata from overlying water-bearing sands and activation of processes of suffusion removal and sinkhole phenomena of the soil. The surveyed area is assessed as potentially karst-hazardous and adjacent to it from the North-East territory as karst-dangerous. In this regard any construction on the adjacent territory can provoke activation of sinkhole phenomena on the surface. The foundations of the building are basically in working condition. Existing defects can be eliminated during repair. The foundation soils mainly have sufficient bearing capacity. Areas of the base with bulk soil can be reinforced. However, when developing a project for the reconstruction of the building and its territory, it should be taken into account that the design of the Melnikov House does not provide for its operation on the loads at the formation of sinkholes.
